Alpha Girl #3

Alpha Divided

Rate this book
Life has been crazy since Tessa McCaide moved to Texas. She’s gone from being a normal-ish girl with visions to a super-powered werewolf. She’s fought off vampires and broken a nearly unbreakable curse. And she’s got a hot mate, Dastien Laurent, to keep her busy.

Things are looking up until the full moon ceremony rolls around. Before Tessa can strengthen her bond with Dastien, the local coven crashes the gates, demanding that Tessa—their heir apparent—be returned. If the pack wants to avoid a war with the witches, handing Tessa over is the only option.

Tessa doesn’t want to cause an all-out fight, but joining a dark-magic coven isn’t on her to-do list, especially if embracing her magic side means parting with Dastien. When the coven leader tries to control Tessa with dark-magic, Tessa realizes she has to dismantle the coven or prepare the pack for war. Either choice will change her life—and her world—forever.

“I don’t want to be anywhere near you let alone join your coven.”

This was a YA paranormal story featuring werewolves and witches.

Tessa acted maturely in this book by offering to help the witches even if it meant leaving her mate for a while, something that her mate really didn’t want to do.

The storyline in this was about Tessa helping the coven to find a new leader, even though she didn’t really feel qualified to do that, and we also got a storyline about Tessa’s developing visions of the future.

The ending to this was okay, but I did lose interest a bit as the book went along.

Alpha Divided by Aileen Erin is the third book in the Alpha Girl series. This series has it all, weres, witches, nasty vampires, and now even a fey. I loved the first two books of this series and this third book is even better!

 photo picnic_zpsf7fb46ca.jpg

Tessa McCaide is eighteen years old now. Wow has her life changed. She went from a girl that tried to hide her visions with no idea of the supernatural world to a strong alpha werewolf witch. She is still struggling with all that she is but she is doing great. How could she not be when she is mated to the oh so sexy Dastien Laurent!

“Straddling the lines between human, wolf, and witch was hard. Each part pulled me in a different direction.”

The books starts out so endearingly. It is Tessa’s birthday party. What really struck me was how moved she was to have her friends and Dastien there with her to celebrate. She’d never experienced friendship like this before. But the day didn’t end in the best way. Now Tessa and Dastien must prepare for their bonding ceremony under the full moon. They are already mated to one another but it is time to make it official. And then, a couple of days later will be the dreaded tribunal for them both.

 photo tumblr_ndd5bhXAPr1sh5rcso1_500_zps9e960b82.gif

Again things don’t turn out the way Tessa hoped they would. Luciana, the evil head of the witch coven, wants Tessa. Before Tessa was bitten and became a werewolf, she was fated to be the next in line to head the coven. But Luciana is evil and there are doubts about her true reasons for wanting Tessa. So Tessa is forced to make a choice. Luciana is threatening war against the weres if they don’t give her Tessa for one month. Can Tessa leave Dastien for a month in order to prevent war? Can they trust Luciana’s word or what are her true motives?

“Luck wasn’t my thing, but I was starting to think fate was.”

“It was all starting to make sense. I only had to stop a war, find a replacement coven leader, and then take down one of the most powerful, evil witches on earth. And I had all of twenty-six days to work with.”

Throughout everything, Tessa grows stronger in her abilities. But she is having visions. Not of the past or present like before but of the future. They are not good visions, though. Things might not go as they hope. One thing is becoming more and more apparent. Luciana is truly evil, and she wants war. She wants to eliminate the werewolf population. She has help though. There are some werewolves within the community that also want Tessa gone and are willing to side with Luciana. How will they find out who is loyal and who is not?

 photo tumblr_m853jozDnB1rcsimao1_250_zpsfd12ca93.gif

Tessa also begins to realize that her role in all of this might be more important than she has imagined. This book had everything. Plenty of action but some really sweet moments between Tessa and Dastien. They are truly a pair, each other’s true mate, two halves of a whole.

“Maybe I did have a bigger role to play. Bringing people together didn’t sound bad at all.”

I did love this book. As I said, each book just gets better. I can’t wait to see what happens next. Thank you so much to Aileen Erin, Ink Monster and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read this book for an honest review.

ALPHA DIVIDED was everything that AVOIDING ALPHA should have been with its bruja plot line, True Mates romance, and full bodied adventure. Tessa really came into her own in this installment by not only embracing her werewolf half, but her witch roots as well. The villain was easy to hate, tied in nicely with the previous novel, and helped expand the ALPHA GIRL world by adding demons, fey, and the possibility of having to ‘out’ supernaturals to humans in the near future. My complaint about the price vs. length remains mind you; two hundred pages (bk 2 & 3) shouldn’t cost the same as four hundred (bk 1) in my opinion, and I wish that Aileen Erin would have ended this tale with the full moon ceremony rather than forcing readers to wait until AFTER the upcoming ‘Claudia’s trip to Peru’ story due out in May 2015.

I’ve been looking forward to spending more time with Tessa’s cousins ever since their characters were first introduced, so I was pleased that the vast majority of this book took place in la Aquelarre. Life in the coven is very different than St Ailbe’s, especially under Luciana’s leadership. I’ve heard of roughing it, but this was an extreme case with thirties style housing, no tech, and a kill switch on every member’s land line. I enjoyed learning more about McCaide’s family through her visions, and great aunt, Tia Rosa. The craft aspects were equally well-developed with Daniel’s spell lessons, Alverez’s dark mojo, and the game changing ritual. Tessa’s failed attempts at learning magic were downright laughable—those poor jars!—however, she eventually realized that her strengths lie elsewhere, and finally embraced her visions.

The plot was easy to follow, and the outcome was foreseeable because the Big Bad broadcast her intentions in the opening chapters, but that in no way lowered my overall enjoyment. There were still a number of unanticipated surprises, and the ending managed to catch me off guard with a regrettable character death. I liked the shout-outs to FIREFLY, THE MATRIX, and Christine Feehan’s SEA HAVEN novels, and McCaide’s eclectic taste in music was fitting given this is New Adult. The author also broadened the ALPHA GIRL universe by roping in the fey, demons, and sorcerers. I wish that the heroine’s brother and BFF hadn’t been sidelined, although it did make sense on account of the la Aquelarre locale, and Claudia & Raphael were an acceptable substitution.

I was disappointed that Dastien didn’t appear in more scenes, however the ones he did have packed a formidable punch which certainly went a long way in appeasing me on that front. Tessa obviously needed to learn how to stand on her own two feet before committing herself to one man for the rest of her life, especially given all of the recent changes she’s had to deal with, and I think this novel accomplished that. I wasn’t sold on the whole insta-love thing in the earlier installments, but their relationship has now reached a happy place. This story began with Tessa and Dastien’s full moon ceremony getting interrupted, so I was peeved that the author didn’t conclude with that, and learning that the werewolves will be MIA in book 4 didn’t exactly help.

Hiccups aside, ALPHA DIVIDED renewed my love of this series, and I look forward to reading not one but TWO new ALPHA GIRL novels in 2015!

“How did you learn to do this?”
“The same way anyone learns anything these days—the Internet.”

I am so over Lucinda can't we kill her off and find a new bad guy already??? I have really enjoyed this series but I think it would have been better as a trilogy; I kind of feel like it's just being dragged on at this point. The book just didn't have the same magic of the first two, a lot happens but it doesn't really go anywhere.

** Stop now if you haven't read the book because I'm about to spoil it.

Having a spin off with Claudia is great, I loved her character so I would be happy to read a book about her... But Lucinda should have been killed at the end of this book. Ending it the way it did was crappy and felt like a last minute decision.

I also felt like the book got off track; It started with Tessa finally marrying Destien, and it should have ended with them being married (or mated or whatever). The book ended in the same spot that it started and it was a total let down.

I know I'm complaining quite a bit but even with that being said I did still enjoy the book. It wasn't amazing but it was still better than a lot of books I've read. I will most likely read the next book, but this series needs to make some changes quickly or else risk alienating fans.

Damn I really liked this! I can't wait for the next book, I'll be counting down days till the release of the final book. I loved the plot twists, the romance between Dastien and Tessa, and the coven/shifter powers. It was so cool to read about, and utterly captivating.\

My only problem was how childish Tessa sometimes sounded. Like, for example:

"Call Mr. Dawson. Tell him it's done-zo mugun-zo"

"Holy crapola! That sounded like it hurt."

"I wished I wasn't totally nakey under the damned thing."

I mean, seriously? Who talks like that? She can swear like a sailor, but she also says all this. It bugged the shit out of me.

Except for that, the book was awesome.

I have read the first two books in the Alpha girl series, and was obsessed with them. They were amazing. Anyhoo, needless to say, I was pumped to read Alpha Divided, but I made sure I started reading with any bias. So I must say, this novel is, without a doubt, wonderful. I felt like an excited Jennifer Lawrence. Happy, giddy, and slightly insane.
description
What did I love so much about this book? Well, beside the smexy couple of the year of Dastien and Tessa, which was perfectly preserved from the first book of the series… Definitely the mystery. I never knew what was happening. I was always wondering what was going to happen, but at the same time, I was always making connections and that kept me from feeling like I was left behind. I don’t like feeling like I am being left behind in a story, at all, it can ruin a story.
Of course, this book had its flaws. I feel like the conflict had lost some of its potency in this book. I felt little to none, real anger or hatred for the villains for the right reasons. I felt mostly angry because they were getting in the way of my Tessa and Dastien time.
I most definitely recommend Alpha Divided and the Alpha Girl series to all Young Adult romance lovers for sure. I believe that it could definitely become one of your all time favorites. I give this book an honest review of four and a half stars!

This series holds a special place in my heart. I just fell in love with the story, the way it's executed and Dastien (of course). It's so hard to explain what made me fall so hard for this book.

Tessa is, yet again, in trouble. She and Dastien just can't get a break. This time, when everything seems like it's falling into place destiny puts another twist on things. Her fight is now with the witches (AKA Brujas) and trust me when I say things get UGLY.

Dastien was amazing. We got to see a different side to him in this book, which was his vulnerability. It seems like Tessa has more control of her feelings for him then the other way around. Which even though was awesome to see, still hurt because I didn't want poor Dastien in pain.

The ending, personally, left a little to be desired. All we got in this book was three moments where the love birds were themselves and with each other. I wanted more. That's the reason why I knocked off a star...Just saying Mrs. Erin C:

Favorite Quotes:

"Life didn't always work out a planned. No matter how badly I wanted it."

"I wanted a future with him."

"I don't think you get. I can't do this without you. I tried, but I was a mess. I don't know when my world started to revolve around you - around us - so much, but it does. (...) So you'll have to excuse me if I try to feed you a little more because I heard that while you were away, you'd been starving yourself."

Alpha Divided (Alpha Girl #3) by Aileen Erin Tessa McCaide and her mate, Dastien Laurent, are planning on strengthening their bond at the full moon ceremony. However, the witches interfere and the ceremony stopped. Now Tessa needs to try to prevent a wolf-witch war.

Alpha Divided is an exciting and fast paced book that I could not put down.

Tessa is amazing. She has gone through so many changes in such a short amount of time. She is strong and clever. She is a character you want to see succeed. She is still learning about the supernatural world and how to maneuver through it. I admire her for making the sacrifice to live with the witches. She discovers more about her heritage and its inner workings.

My heart broke for Tessa and Dastien when they had to be separated. The agony of what they had to endure was frustrating, evil witches.

The plot of Alpha Divided was original and intriguing. You never knew what to expect or who you could really trust. The story was well-written and mysterious. I really enjoy this series and look forward to future books.

I’m stopping this at Chapter 4. It was already getting iffy with the last book but when the female becomes TSTL, I’m pulling the plug.

Seriously, there is a mating ceremony for a true mated pair(supposedly completely in love)and the girl- in front of the pack- basically says, I can’t bite you, it’s gross. The actual quote was, “That’s just…nope…not gonna happen.” Seriously? And then while she’s whining about the ritual which basically stalled the ceremony, the enemy witches show up to stop the ceremony and break the mating. Instead of finishing the ceremony and creating an unbreakable bond or fighting with her mate she says “stop! I’ll go with you. We can just do the ceremony again next month, right?” (THIS WOMAN WANTS TO BREAK YOUR BOND WITH YOUR TRUE MATE!!!!)
AGAIN......SERIOUSLY?????

TSTL or not mature enough to be in a relationship.

I’m out.

This book was so much better than the last! I feel like the author has ever so slightly reined in on Tess's nature of complaining which made it much more joyful to read! :)

There wasn't much romance in this book since Tessa is compelled to make a choice at the tribunal as to whether or not joining her cousin's coven. I don't know how to react, whether think she is stupid for thinking that I mean come on has she forget what happened last time?

I felt for Dastien watching his mate go :(

There was a lot of things that happened in this book, and I'm glad I got the chance to jump right into it.
I'm not too sure how I felt about this one, especially since there was a lot of drama with the witch coven, but I liked the fact that Tessa got the chance to learn more things about her past and her powers, I mean sure she was forced to be there but on the other hand she learned of Luciana's evil plans and Rupert's plans to steal her Alpha powers to stage another coup because he wanted the power for himself. Of course he didn't know that Luciana wanted to get rid of the pack and take over all the covens too. Oh and not to mention the final battle also had vampires involved. Talk about drama!

Alpha Divided had everything the first two books had, and then some. I liked that in this one, the bond between Tessa and Dastien didn't really take precedent, in fact the romance part was turned down a notch and it was fitting with all that was going through with Tessa being at the coven. Since she was supposed to have been the new leader, it was sort of her responsibility to help the coven, either take down unstable Luciana or find another leader to take her place. At least while she was there, she made new friends and learned more about her powers, not to mention getting stronger and finally having visions of the future. Plus she learned that she's the one that will unite all them together because she's been human but she's also a witch and a werewolf. Tessa might even end up leading the coven and a pack at the same time!

I will say that there was one death that I didn't see coming, it wasn't shocking but it was still sad to see him die. And as for the other characters, I just wish Imogene finds a mate or something because she's causing trouble for Tessa and Dastien and I really feel like punching her in the face, especially after Tessa spoke in favor of her staying in the pack. Maybe with her dad she'll finally get what she deserves.

I'm left wondering if they're ever going to complete the Full Moon Ceremony (or whatever it's called) and have that mating night, basically their wedding in werewolf terms. I know Tessa and Dastien are meant to be and all that but all the interruptions are getting annoying. That and the fact that the next book is written in Claudia's perspective, Tessa's cousin. To me I'd rather just skip it and go ahead and read the last book in the series, but I'm not sure if I'm going to be confused if I skip. I guess while the last one comes out, I'll try and give the next book a try. Maybe reading about Claudia won't be so bad.

I fell in love with this story! Tessa wants to be alone with Dastein but he claimed her without permission, everyone knows that Tessa and Dastien are strong alphas and she is also a strong witch. Between the evil wolf and his family with evil leader of the witch coven they can't see what's coming at them. The storyline flows so easily in this book that I could only put it down when I fell asleep and then picked it up again first thing the next day. I gave this book five stars because Aileen Erin can write a excellent story, but this one is so exciting that you will read it from the first chapter to the last page in a day.The sex in this was non existent, but the book reminds me that we all have something going on but when you can find someone to share it and help to carry some of your burden, then everything can turn out for the good!!i I would definitely recommend you buy this book!

I don't think this is the series for me.

My mixed feeling continue, parts of this book I liked but as with the previous two books 'Becoming' and 'Avoiding' it's the same things bothering me, Tessa is still annoying although maybe not quite as much as she was in the previous books, although I noticed at times she's still leaning towards TSTL. It seemed very predictable and I thought the ending was a bit of a copout and while I was determined to see this series out I don't know if I will, I thought there was something here but I'm not sure it's enough for me to continue on.

Received this book from a contest here on Goodreads.

I have read the first book in this series, Alpha Girl which I quite enjoyed and even thought it's classified as YA I thought it was good enough urban fantasy for anyone who enjoys the genre to read.

While I didn't read book #2 in the series, most of what happened in it is covered in this book to bring you up to date in the series.
Now the fact that all events in the 3 book have happened in less than 2 months, you would think that would be exhausting for anyone to live through!

Spoilers in the series/this book

OK so alot happened in this book which was good and made it a quick read, most quite enjoyable, but i do hate hanging on endings where you have to read the next book. I much prefer next book in the series but each book being complete onto itself, like Kim Harrison's Hollows series, Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series etc. where you can pick up any book and enjoy the story. You don't have to start at Book 1 and carry on from there to enjoy the whole series.
This book started that way that I wasn't going to have to read Book 2 but obviously going to want to read the next in the Alpha Girl series, not necessarily the one about the cousin's journey to Peru (The Bruja), but for sure want to know about this coming "war" and how are newlyweds are going to make out ( physically and as a couple).

But I did find some of the ending, out there a bit.
example: When quite a few got killed/wounded in the battle, why not get rid of the Wicked Witch instead of letting her walk away with her son's body threatening war? Kill the bitch too! then no war our gal is head witch and pick her 2nd and the one to take over later.
Our gal killed the bad guy wolf, then why is his family still being allowed to be in the pack? the wife allowed WW into the pack ceremony to stop the original bonding, shouldn't she get the boot too? The daughter is always causing trouble for our couple, trying to get our gal to lose it so she will get banned or killed, so give her the boot too!
I mean really you are going to allow, as the former group of 7 pack leaders now down to about 5 (I think I remember that right) a former leader just to be banned for working with the bad guy and the WW why not kill him off too?? He's already betrayed the pack and stated he wanted all the leader power, ah I think most packs would have killed him at that point after betrayal, threats to the pack leadership and getting a bunch of the pack to betray their pack as well ..... like he's not going to do this again??? Kill the betrayer before he causes another round of battles with either the other side of the pack that betrayed or other supes that have it in for our pack!

I suppose that's why it's a YA book as they don't just kill coldly as most urban fantasy books do for betrayal of the pack/group.. and it let's the author carry over bad guys into the next book or 2.

Anyway, I do like the internal strength and new young love of the main character and the passion and strength of her mate but also the patience he has for her with her being a new wolf and very young to consummate the relationship the he will not push her but cuddle and love her until she's ready. He's a good man/wolf for not rushing the process.

So while there are some holes in character development of some of the secondary characters, and would have liked a little more info on why the wicked witch has lost it and demanded more power from her followers, and why they aren't fighting back? It's a quick read and amusing story.

First book I've like the best in this series, this one while it contained a whole lot of story, the carry over into the next book and lack of some of the characters development was a bit annoying.

I actually give it 3.5 stars but you can't post 1/2, on the scoring scale.

This is the third part of the series that I have read and I quite liked it.

This book is about the story of a girl, who is part wolf and part witch. She had been born strong and predicted to be the future Coven Leader of the most famous witch covens. But on turning into a wolf, the leader of the witches think its an offence caused to them by the wolfs and due to this she demands revenge.

This book is both a romance and paranormal. It is a book and series that I would read one time but wouldn't come back to it.

The Alpha Girl series has been written and formatted in a way I've never seen a series done before. The first in the series, Becoming Alpha, focussed heavily on romance and character development, introducing characters and the world in which they lived, while Avoiding Alpha moved into more of an action styled read with a lot more at risk and more development in the different aspects of the world, while the romance took more of a back seat, so when Alpha Divided came along, I wasn't sure exactly what style of read I'd get, but the read I did get continued the quality and feel that the series has, and I am even more excited to hear about it's sequels.

Surprisingly, the feature I least enjoyed at the start of this series has become the heart and soul of it, and that's the romance, and while I don't mean that it takes over everything, because that's definitely not true, but without the romance, there really wouldn't be much a plot at all, and this was developed much more in this installment than I had been previously, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The aspect of the romance though, the whole 'bonding' and essentially getting married at 18, not that I have a problem with that, does feel a little, pushy and forced on occasion, but other than these features, the romance is the right amount of passion, tension, fluffy and sexy and Erin writes this almost perfectly. It's easy to tell that Tessa and Dastiens feelings are genuine, right down to the core, that their romance is realistic and honest, and that they've established a level of trust and care between one another which is so clear within their feelings when they're together, but also with one another when they're apart, to see them so shut down and affected, to see how deep their emotions go, and how much difference their bonded feeling changes their dynamics, but also with the pack they're more than likely going to lead at some point - it's wonderful to read and really brings in that extra level of enjoyment when you can enjoy the scenes that the main couple in this series has. There's nothing I don't like about their romance, and there's nothing I can say about it at this point in the series that I haven't already said before

What really was enjoyable, so much so, it absorbed me straight into the plot, was how Erin backtracked a little onto Becoming Alpha back to Tessa's past and her visions to develop that part of her character much more. I mention in my review for Avoiding Alpha that there didn't feel like there was enough information or develop on Tessa's witch half part of her character and while there still wasn't a huge amount in this novel, there was at least the opportunity for more and there was more development in the direction of the new characters involved and the characters we'd already met before. Seeing Tessa's new found confidence with her wolf was a wonderful addiction, but seeing her still struggle with her witch was just as important and the messages that Erin gave throughout this installment, that she needed to work with the both of them, not just with one, was so vital, it said so much about us all - we need to accept all parts of our personality and not hide behind one when somebody doesn't like another, to accept yourself and feel confident in what you're capable of, you need to accept every part of you, and that's exactly what Tessa began to do in Alpha Divided. Seeing and meeting the new characters, and getting a taste of what is involved when it comes to the witches coven was a wonderful new addiction, but sadly, when it comes to being connected to the new characters easily, that's were the length of these novels plays a part. If they were longer, there would be more room for the world building, more room to become attached to the characters we meet, and there'd be more room for much more action and the series would definitely improve in rating and enjoyability, but the size reflects how much can happen - I only wish they could be larger. As with the premise installments, the plot itself was a little predictable in parts, but this is something I always find myself dismissing because the rest of the novel is usually really that good.

What was the biggest surprise about this installment was finding out that it was in fact, not the end of the series, and this both made me sad, and made me insanely excited about what's to come, because although these novels are short, the series themselves continue to grow, which allows for more development and more sides of characters personalities to be introduced. The idea of actually learning more about the witches covens and Claudia, Tessa's cousin, is insanely exciting, so to actually have the next novel be entirely about that, is really intriguing, not to mention the idea of having a different perspective is really interesting too. Then to find that there'll be even more from Tessa, Dastien, Meredith, Donovan, the wolves and the witches this time next year is even more exciting. I need more of this world and these characters, I need even more development from Tessa because it just never quite feels like enough, and most all, I will never say no to more romance, and boy does this book have it. Alpha Girl is a series that just keeps on giving and I will most definitely not stop taking what's offered. I'm completely invested on the outcome on this series, and if Erin continues to write this series for another year or two, I definitely won't be disappointed.

maybe it`s because of me and my uncomfy setting and the noise
maybe I had high expectations
the plot about the witches and wolf pack, the twists and how the war began and all .. it was amazing and well written really
better than the second book even
but I liked the other two books more
tessa had much sass and was much cooler
even though in this book she was brave - and lucky - af

3.5

This one was actually a bit more interesting, like getting to see el aquelarre and the whole bruja thing was cool (even if we’re exposed to it through Tessa’s really annoying and constant yapping, lady, really, shut up)

*** I reviewed my personal copy of this book for Wicked Reads***

I read Aileen Erin's two previous books in the Alpha Girl series and they've all been an enjoyable easy quick reads! The story really builds upon each book so I'd highly recommend reading the previous books in order to fully enjoy the series. So far, book #1, Alpha Girl, has been my favorite, but there's still time for that to change.

In the third book, Alpha Divided, pretty much picks up where Avoiding Alpha (book #2) left off. Tessa and Dastien attempt to finally do the bonding ceremony at the full moon, but before they complete it Luciana, the local coven leader, interrupts their ceremony. Tessa must go spend time at the local coven in order to avoid a war between them and her pack. However, the last thing she feels like doing is separating from her mate, Dastien, when she doesn't trust the coven leader one bit.

I've really enjoyed Aileen Erin's Alpha Girl series so far and I look forward to seeing how Tessa and Dastien's story continues! I'd give Alpha Divided 4 stars ****
