In this third installment of the Jesse McDermitt series, Jesse faces an antagonist unlike any other. A friend’s son, who was dishonorably discharged from the Corps, is suffering from post-traumatic stress. With Jesse’s help he learns to cope with his demons and gets his discharge overturned, so that he can once again serve the country he loves.
Meanwhile, another foe is out to get Jesse, Deuce, and anyone else that gets in the way, including a highly placed government official. When it’s learned the foe is one of their own, all hell breaks loose around the Florida Keys.
Half the proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to Home for Warriors in Brevard County, Florida, to help build and remodel homes for our injured military men and women.
I'm a Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and now, a full time novelist. Between those careers, I've also worked as a deckhand, commercial fisherman, divemaster, taxi driver, construction manager, and truck driver. I live in the Sea Islands, near Beaufort, SC, with my wife and youngest daughter. We also have three grown children, five grand children, three dogs and a whole flock of parakeets. I grew up in Melbourne, FL and have also lived in the Florida Keys and Cozumel, MX.
I'm enjoying the Jesse McDermitt series by Wayne Stinnett for the most part. The story line is always intriguing with exciting action scenes and edge of your seat suspense.
Fallen Pride includes multiple step-by-step routes through the Florida Keys, taking the President of the U.S. out fishing, participating in another wedding, characters continuously bringing boats "up to plane", name dropping of fish that I've never heard of before - sans descriptions and repeated morning or evening rituals - just like in the previous books of the series that I've read to date. Typos and added/missing words continue, Red Stripe Beer and a full thermos of Columbian coffee are always available and Jesse has sex with a new female character...I do love that dog, though!
The author continues to add more and more characters to his story which doesn't allow readers an opportunity to get to know them individually - might need to generate a "cast of characters" sheet going forward to keep track of them all. He does show his quick wit and sarcasm via snippets from these characters - making me laugh out loud several times. I'm also wondering how much more construction can take place on Jesse's island.
I've already purchased the last book in the series and expect to learn more about water routes and those other things mentioned earlier. However, I look forward to see what kind of mischief Jesse and company will get into next - as we go forward, it appears like Jesse is expanding and getting deeper into black ops - perhaps I'll learn more in the next installment.
I still recommend reading the series to learn more about life in the Florida Keys and covert operations by former military specialists who are now employed by Homeland Security.

I have completed four of the stories in this series now and each one gets a little bit better than the previous ones. This is definitely a masterpiece beyond comparison, based on the excellent camaraderie of those involved. They are all slaved together as one and the bad guys pay the penalty, if one of the good guys is harmed. I have definitely been hooked from the very beginning story as the author does an excellent job covering all aspects of his intended escapades from cover to cover. Jesse McDermitt does an excellent job with his many different adventures and assignments, who h will definitely appease you every whim.
Five stars and more, but we know the limit, and I try to prove the true worthiness of such a spectacular endeavor by such a master as Mr. Wayne Stinnet. This is a very stirring endeavor by an exceptionally talented group of characters throughout the entire story and the storylines created by the author far exceeds even his full intent. I am amazed by the author's thoroughness of each individual detail and this story has so many heartwarming adventures that I hated to put the book aside even to eat.
I am looking forward to Book Five as I am sure the rest of the series will be as entertaining as the previous four. I definitely recommend this book, and the series, to all you readers who love romance, secret adventures, and never ending eye in the sky secret service agents doing their everyday activities!
Read this series, please, as some of the adventures throughout the entire story will make you aware of what may be really happening in our country at this very moment😈
This book was very difficult for me to write. It involves a young Marine recently returned from war, who is suffering post traumatic stress. While writing it, I had to not only chase down and face my own demons, but then try to convey the feelings and emotions that doing so created. My Beta Readers on this one were all former military, mostly Marines and more than half were Iraq and Afghanistan Vets. I set up a private Facebook page for all of us, so we could discuss segments of the book in real time. I dare say, I've created a strong bond between a few of them, who didn't know one another at all before. That alone makes the whole project worthwhile.
Having read most of Stinnett novels this was true to form. Other than bit to much whiz bang (yes I am that old) it keeps your interest with intensity and intrigue.
Wow! Jesse's private Florida Keys' Island has been turned into a full fledged Caribbean Homeland Security base. Jesse sustains a life threatening injury while extracting a team member from a terrorist group. The team expands and has some harrowing adventures. Another winner from Wayne Stinnett.
This series has just turned into a story to talk up military life. The plot gets more and more far fetched, and there is an excruciating number of pages devoted to pouring cups of coffee and what's for dinner. Just boring reading.
As in prior books, Stinnett does a good job with action scenes but spends too much time on minor details elsewhere. Here, for example, he spends the better part of a chapter covering a flight the main characters take, including radio exchanges between the pilot and the various controllers he contacts where each one parrots back what the other said. I know that’s how it’s done in real life (and that’s a good thing because it leaves no room for misunderstandings) but here one go-round would have been enough with the rest covered in narrative. Show isn’t always better than tell – especially when it slows the story down.
Stinnett tends to repeat himself is in describing things as well. We are constantly reminded what all was done to Jesse’s island and what Rusty did to turn the area around his bar into a marina. Ditto when it comes to having every boat go up on plane whenever it hits open water. Once or twice is enough, Mr. Stinnett.
There are places, too, where Stinnett has Jesse refer to one character in narrative then in the next sentence address a comment to a different character without a clue to who he is speaking to. It causes a momentary lurch in the story flow (especially when both characters are male or female) until I catch onto the shift.
The same huge cast of characters from the last book is here as well. And I still can’t keep them straight. Tony or Trent? Doc, Deuce, or Dawson? Jeremy, Julie, Jared, or Jackie? To complicate matters further, Stinnett adds more characters throughout the book until they all kind of blend into one. The only character I’m absolutely sure about is Jesse – only because he’s the main character – and that Julie and Jackie are female. You need to re-work your name choices and thin the herd a bit, Mr. Stinnett.
Still as long as he keeps writing them, I’ll keep reading them.
I thought this might be a good series, but after 4 books, it's now a big disappointment. Talk about over the top! predictable and often quite boring. I can just imagine the next ones in the series are mostly filler from the previous ones, you just have to skim pages and pages of repeated lines. The author doesn't trust his readers memory, so he feeds the same stuff over and over again. It really is just a bit of fluff, full of bragging about who has the biggest, best and fastest. Bullet wounds are not a problem with the author's characters, a full recovery and party the next day. The best of the best? give me a break. As to any sense of the environment and preserving nature and it's bounty, these unrealistic characters consume fuel and fish as if there is no tomorrow. Hardly a sail boat in sight, never mind them not using one. Island living at it's worst. This type of story telling all to well makes those of us who live in the rest of the world recoil in dismay at how it portrays Americans.
This is the second Jesse McDermott adventure I’ve read. So far they all seem to be standalone novels and not serials, which is important to me. I hate to read a story only to find out at the end that it’s a cliffhanger. Personally I think this kind of serial right teen should have to be specifically noted in someway so that the reader can tell before they start a book that The story may not end. As with the other books that I’ve read in this series, this is a good story, Well written with very few errors that may or may not have been caught by a good editor. Overall I highly recommend this series for anyone who enjoys adventure stories about ex-Seals and other ex-military Types who form a quasi official Group to fight the bad guys.
I gave this book a 5 as I enjoy the reading and dream of such a place for myself. I have to add that a good amount is fantasy and falls under what I call "Kings & Queens of Wishful Thinking". We all have it, we all dream it.
The story carries on the story from the previous books and is a stand-alone as well. Enough of the story is repeated in each book so that everything makes sense. I repeat - information about the story is repeated.
As a retired military veteran, I enjoy books such as this series. I can relate to much of the story and even have plans (dreams) of doing similar things in my own real life. I agree with things, disagree with others, and make my own mind up about what I like and dislike. This is what makes many things in the series great. Choices and what we do with them.
Another good one but endings are becoming predictable.
I like the author's style and creativity but all the books I've read so far are just changing the names of who dies in the end. Tiresome in the fairly negative times in which we live currently. I'll read more of his stuff but only after I find some with more positive endings. It's a personal thing as I really can see a little Cussler in this author. I've just been on the wrong end of dying and been brought back on the table, so I KNOW life's too short to finish everything on a down note. And it colors how good the book was written when all you remember is how you feel when you close it.
The plot and dialog were well done and the story was very engaging. I plan to read more Wayne Stinnett novels because I really like his storytelling style. Also, he is obviously very knowledgeable about the locations and military background used in the story.
I have one complaint though, or I'd give this a 5-star review. The ending was kind of flat and anticlimactic, followed by a rushed, brief epilogue that was meant to tie up some loose strings. My opinion that the epilogue should have been expanded and included in the main story instead of a brief footnote.
Wayne, your books are getting better and better!!!! Still losing a lot of sleep. Can not seem to put these Fallen books down once started. My heart feels so heavy for Charity once she knew that Jared had died. They had just found each other. I seem to need to re-read all these books every few months when I can't find a new book to interest me. Hope you will continue using Jesse in your new series. You can not go wrong with proven characters. Take care. Thanks, Amarillo Turtle
Mr Stinnett has spun another great tale! You got a lot of references of Marine background and procedure along with their commradetry, also enough action and romance to keep you going. Hope Jesse and Jackie work things out since Jesse has not had a lot of luck with the ladies recently, and he has introduced a new lead for another book series. Overall great story recommend to all!
This book was every bit as good as the previous Wayne books I have read. It has very good local color, a constant and slowly building plot line, and a surprise, explosive ending. My only disappointment is that throughout his books, Wayne mostly calls men by their last names and women by their first names. (See what I did there? ☺ ) That habit is a bit sexist and a tad insulting. 😏
What a story teller... this book had me riveted to every page. I've read his first four books in this series and I can not stop reading... Each book is as exciting the one before it.. I won't stop until I've read every book he has written, then I'll wait patiently for the next one...
I've enjoyed every one of the JD books. I'm a right wing gun nut and firearm mistakes catch my eye. The SIG P229 is chambered in either .40 S&W or in .357 SIG, not 357 Magnum, a totally different cartridge. Similar ballistics. I think Mr. Stinnet's fingers outran his eye on the keyboard.
FALLEN PRIDE by Wayne Stinnett book 4 Jesse McDermitt. Caribbean Adventure. Jesse , her close friend Deuce also a Navy Seal, working for Homeland Security. Got Jesse roped in to work for them, someone though is against them in this company. Causing Jesse to be seriously injured.and extracting a member from a terriost threat. Well done, a lot of action, tension, awaiting more by Wayne.
Very good wrighter. Neer sto team up with James Hall and Lee Childs
We could get some awesome stories with those three This wat the best of the four. It is hard s Reading when lady's get killed . bet I tear up when the jarheads go. My son is a Marine and I am sailor. Good story
this book was so well written, as a former navy guy, I was enthralled! when you read this book, you will find my one bad spot! the story line was a good one and was easily followed! I had to keep reminding myself that Miami is north of the keys! language was pg! action was very good! I only have it a 5 star, because they did NOT offer 10 or 11!
This author does much description and scene setting which is almost too much at first blush - but when the action starts, it’s all adrenaline, all the time!
I’d peg this as a covert ops fantasy, not quite as gruesome as some I’ve read in the past, and justice was duly served.
The next in the Jessie McDermitt series is a lot of fun. There are is a good amount of action along with some stunning Caribbean scenery. The writing is good but the plot was a bit straightforward. I wish it moved the overall story a bit but it wasn’t bad. Overall I like these books to take me on a mini south Florida vacation and in that aspect it doesn’t disappoint.
Wayne's considerable knowledge of military (Marine) experience (which he shares through the protagonist Jesse McDermitt) have consistently led towards a captivating journey in each of the four books I have read, starting with Fallen Out. I am beginning Fallen Mangrove and look forward to an exciting read!
This continues the trials and successes of the series protagonists and the fallibility of the miscreants. And in an interesting fashion I might add. The well-drawn characters keep your interest high and add nicely to the plot. Would sure enjoy a ride on some of the boats running around the Keys.
KU borrow. Like all of Stinnett's tales, there's a lot of technical boat or plane stuff to get through. But in this one, the action takes place in a couple of spots, not just in the last third. I guess I just like the boat and plane stuff because I liked this book. Bad guy gets his due.
Fallen pride is a good book. the author keeps you turning the pages. All of his Jesse McDermott books make you want to read the next book. He is very interesting and knowledgeable with the area and boating. I recommend it to anyone that likes a book that keeps you wanting more when it ends.
If you like military or former military stories, you will love this series. From beginning to end the action does not stop. Very believable characters and the scenery is so descriptive the reader feels as if they are in the keys. Heart wrenching in places, with an unexpected ending, outstanding book. Looking forward to the next book in the series. Highly recommend!
Loved the story, too many women in too short a time though. I loved that Cussler didn’t have to have that, he wrote action, adventure, camaraderie and usually good endings. I miss that. At least Mr. Stinnett doesn’t have explicit scenes and vulgarity- that is admirable. Thank you for that. I will keep reading, skipping over the “woman of the month” parts.
Ii was so enthralled by the story and the vivid descriptions of underwater scenery and aquatic life that i couldn't put this book down. The adventures of Jesse Mcdermett and his many friends is so captivating that i could hardly keep up as they moved rapidly from action to action.
