After losing everything, she found herself in the place she least expected: home.
In the wake of a painful breakup and the heart-wrenching loss of her beloved grandfather, Seren Grinaker escapes to Adytown, a quaint rural town she’s only heard stories about. The inheritance of Hiraeth Farm, a sprawling piece of land steeped in family history, feels more like a burden than a blessing. The townsfolk, warm and familiar, seem to have known her all her life, and they assume she's there to reclaim her grandfather’s legacy.
Just as she’s ready to run again, a final call from her ex-boyfriend severing their last ties, an unexpected encounter with the town’s handsome, kind-hearted doctor, and strange prophetic dreams, convinces her to stay. With the help of newfound friends and the magic of Adytown’s close-knit community, she begins to see the farm, and herself, in a new light.
But as she grapples with grief, uncertainty, and a new budding romance, she isn’t sure she can live up to the residents of Adytown’s expectations, or her own.
A tale of love, loss, and the powerful magic of self-discovery, this story reminds us that sometimes the greatest journey is the love affair we can have with ourselves.
As someone new to the contemporary romance genre, this book was an unexpected delight. It’s not the type of story I usually gravitate toward, but it completely consumed me—I finished it in just two days. The chemistry between Seren and Dr. Harlan was magnetic, and I couldn’t stop hoping for them to finally come together. Every near-miss had me holding my breath, muttering things like, “Just kiss her already!”
The emotional depth of the characters made the journey unforgettable. There were moments when I adored them, moments when I was frustrated by their choices, but I was always invested in their story. This book isn’t just a romance—it’s a heartfelt exploration of love and self-discovery. By the end, I realized it had taught me something about myself, too. Maybe I like contemporary romance novels. A truly worthwhile read!
Giving this book 5 stars because it not only was an amazing and heart-warming story, but it also made me look at my own life and consider what is truly important. I loved the return to nature and the found-family aspect as well as the slow burn romance (who doesn’t love a man in a lab coat??). I loved that inner healing and overcoming fear was a significant part of Seren’s journey and ultimately carved a way for her to lead a happier, more fulfilled life. This book can really make you question what aspects of your beliefs might be outdated or holding you back. Can’t wait to see what Kate writes next!
I’ve given this book full marks because, despite being a man in my 60s, this is one kind of genre I enjoy. And ‘Under The Same Sky’ I enjoyed. It is a heart warming and inspiring story, not just the slow burn romance (and boy, did they take their time!) but how the very likeable Seren got her life back on track. There were a few missing pieces I must say, like the fact it covered a 3 year period, and although there was lots of the small town joining together for festivals and fairs and celebrations as everybody knew everybody, there was never any proper mention of Christmas. It just popped from season to season and we just have to assume that nothing happened at all in between. But I won’t be critical because this story rolled along nicely showing Seren as a very much loved and caring new member of the Adytown community. If this is your style of genre, I thoroughly recommend it. I constantly pictured the author, Kate, as Seren (having viewed her social media), maybe that’s how she wanted it as I’m sure there were some bits that were real life, like Seren enjoying a bath. Oh, and I want a jar of S&O!
I promised to read this new book by Kate Hill because I know her mother. I didn’t know what to expect. I was not disappointed. Kate is an excellent storyteller. She employs beautiful descriptions that draw the reader into the story without overdoing it. Short chapters make this page-turner an easy read and will make you want to read more from this author. Superbly written! I look forward to her next book.
Thank you so much for reading Under the Same Sky! I am very proud of this book, and I hope you enjoyed your time in Adytown with Seren and all the characters. Of course, I had to leave a shameless five stars on my own book, but hey, you've gotta be your own biggest cheerleader.
This is my first book, so it's very special to me.
I follow the authors YouTube and normally like to check out indie authors debut books but...I should have not checked this one out. It seems this book could’ve gone through another round of edits or something, and the story and writing was lackluster and boring. I liked the descriptions of some scenes but most of it was mindless, boring drivel.
This novel portrays a woman who is forced to redefine herself, in a small town. One can’t help but see the parallel between learning to grow healthy food, and the lessons she learns about growing herself. I loved this book and can’t wait to read more from this author!
While I don't usually read romance novels, I was delighted with this one. It was a fun breezy read and I enjoyed it. The small town setting was enchanting. I liked all the characters. I will say this it was way better than the newest Jack Reacher book.
