**Book Review: *Project Threshold: Wading into Darkness (Series I)* by Craig Crawford**

*Project Threshold: Wading into Darkness* plunges readers into a tense, shadowy world where monsters are very real—and humanity’s survival depends on a secret organization willing to face them head-on. Craig Crawford delivers a gripping collection that blends dark science fiction, horror, and military-style action into a fast-paced, high-stakes series.

At the heart of the book is Project Threshold, a covert group that understands the terrifying truth of the multiverse: when barriers between worlds weaken, deadly creatures slip through. These threats aren’t myths or hallucinations—they are predators, and stopping them falls to Direct Contact Teams who risk everything to protect an unsuspecting world. Crawford doesn’t romanticize this work; instead, he emphasizes its brutal cost. Death is sudden, missions are unforgiving, and survival often depends on intelligence, adaptability, and a willingness to make impossible choices.

One of the collection’s greatest strengths is its atmosphere. The stories carry a persistent sense of dread, reminding readers that danger can strike without warning and that even seasoned agents are never truly safe. The procedural elements—containment protocols, tactical decisions, and grim aftermaths—add realism and weight, making the supernatural feel disturbingly plausible.

Crawford’s writing keeps the tension high while gradually revealing the scope and rules of this hidden war. Each story expands the universe, offering different encounters, perspectives, and consequences, while reinforcing the central theme: protecting humanity from darkness often means sacrificing comfort, certainty, and sometimes life itself.

*Wading into Darkness* is an excellent entry point for readers who enjoy dark sci-fi, cosmic horror, and secret-organization narratives. It’s relentless, unsettling, and immersive—a collection that makes it clear that some battles are fought in silence, far from the light, so the rest of the world can remain blissfully unaware.
