"Lee Smith is a great American patriot who has understood, from the very beginning, that the radical left is the true THREAT TO DEMOCRACY."
—Donald Trump, former president of the United States
From Lee Smith, bestselling author of, The Permanent Coup and The Plot Against the President, comes another riveting exposé of the secret war against President Trump and American democracy.
Even before a would-be killer tried to murder President Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, a clique of political assassins set about eliminating him from public life entirely. In Disappearing the President, New York Times bestselling author Lee Smith exposes how a shadow network of powerful partisan activists has waged a years-long, scorched-earth war to eradicate President Trump and any vestige of his influence.
Resorting to an unprecedented campaign of domestic spying, election rigging, brute-force censorship, and political violence, anti-Trump zealots have undermined the federal government and sabotaged countless other vital institutions in their relentless quest to crush the former president.
In this alarming book, Lee Smith
How U.S. intelligence services, trained to sabotage foreign governments and leaders, have turned their expertise against Americans.
How the Shadow Network exploited Covid to censor dissidents and rig the 2020 election.
Why Big Tech firms hired hundreds of former intelligence officials after 2018.
How Barack Obama, widely viewed as a benign elder statesman, created and leads the anti-Trump operation.
Finally, Smith shows how censorship of Trump supporters has provoked a free-speech backlash.
The hour is late, and the stakes are high. Including exclusive interviews with President Trump, Devin Nunes, Dan Bongino, and many others, Disappearing the President is an unsettling expose of a rogue cabal that will pay any price to annihilate the one man who threatens their agenda.
An Unprecedented Dive into Political Warfare: Lee Smith's "Disappearing the President"
Lee Smith's "Disappearing the President: Trump, Truth Social, and the Fight for the Republic" is not just a book; it's a political bombshell wrapped in the guise of a narrative, meticulously detailing how Smith portrays an orchestrated campaign against former President Donald Trump. As of October 2024, when the political landscape remains fiercely divided, Smith's work stands out as both a controversial piece of journalism and a compelling read for those fascinated by the intersection of politics and media.
Smith, known for his no-holds-barred approach in "The Plot Against the President" and "The Permanent Coup," continues his tradition of painting a landscape where Trump isn't just a political figure but a symbol of democratic resistance against what he describes as a "shadow network." This network, according to Smith, includes elements within the federal government, media, and Silicon Valley, all supposedly united in an unprecedented effort to erase Trump's political influence.
Smith weaves a narrative where Trump's presidency and post-presidency battles are framed not just as legal or political confrontations but as parts of a broader, sinister plot. From the Russiagate to the events leading up to January 6, and the legal challenges Trump faces post-2020, Smith connects these dots with precision of an investigative journalist uncovering layers of political subterfuge.
A significant portion of the book delves into the creation and impact of Truth Social, positioning it not merely as a social media platform but as a bastion of free speech against rampant censorship. This narrative thread explores how digital spaces have become battlegrounds for ideological warfare.
Beyond Trump, Smith explores the broader implications for American democracy. He argues that the fight against Trump is symptomatic of deeper issues concerning freedom of speech, the right to dissent, and the integrity of elections.
"Disappearing the President" matters because it encapsulates a significant portion of contemporary American political discourse. Whether one agrees with Smith's conclusions or not, the book is a testament to the deep divisions in how truth, power, and democracy are perceived. It's a must-read for anyone interested in understanding the Trump phenomenon beyond the daily news cycle, offering a perspective that, while polarizing, is undeniably part of the current American political narrative.
Lee Smith's latest work is not just about Trump; it's about power, control, and the fight for narrative dominance in the digital age. "Disappearing the President" challenges readers to reconsider what they believe about political power plays, media influence, and the very concept of truth in an era where information warfare is as real as any other form of conflict. For students of politics, conspiracy enthusiasts, or anyone who loves a good political thriller, this book is a provocative journey through the heart of modern American political warfare.
This is an outstanding book. Everyone should read it. It gives you a behind the scenes look at what has been happening to conservatives and Trump. It is so worth the read and a “hard to put down” type of book!
Google's Trust & Safety Team, responsible for what constitutes "disinformation," is essentially managed by former CIA agents. In fact, since 2018, Google has hired approximately 165 former spies from various intelligence agencies. During the same period, Facebook hired former employees from the following agencies: FBI (26), NSA (16), DHS (29), State Department (32), the Pentagon (49), and the CIA (14). Where does the government end and the technology industry begin?
Prior to the sale of Twitter to Musk, Twitter hired dozens of FBI agents. The FBI would also approach tech companies and basically entice them by offering an informal deputization, and some were excited by the prospect of becoming a de facto FBI agent. This period will forever be known as the dark time when censorship kicked in to overdrive. The silencing of half of America commenced; our dystopian fears had become a reality, and propaganda was their weapon.
Lee Smith does an excellent job reporting on this travesty, with various government sources sharing their insight. The threat of a totalitarian government one day capturing America and the world has not disappeared, but there are now signs of optimism for the future.
The first thing that I’d like to say is: thank God for Elon and for him buying X. Reading this book was no easy task, since I was reminded of those dreadful days of social media censorship, still going on in much of the world. Hopefully, with the passage of time, much of it will slow down. As if the censorship hasn’t been bad enough, let’s not forget the media pushing their propaganda. I was reminded of this quote for another book that I read.
“Even CBS’s Lara Logan admitted that journalists have become political activists. ‘Eighty-five percent of journalists are registered Democrats,’ she told the Mike Drop Podcast.”
What has been happening is not journalism or news, but activism. We should also bear in mind that most AI is written has a considerable bias.
Here are some of my favorite quotes.
Kamala “She’s an ideologue committed to the causes advanced by her party and patron, including censorship of her political opponents. As a senator, Harris was one of the first to call for Trump’s banishment from social media, writing a letter to Twitter’s management in October 2019 demanding the American President be silenced.”
Obama Wasn’t Going Anywhere “… when Obama pulled Zuckerberg aside in Peru, the message he wanted to convey was simple and direct: for helping put Trump in the White House, he and his then $400 billion-dollar company were on notice. Perhaps it struck Zuckerberg as odd that the outgoing president was so animated about an election in which he was not a candidate. Sure, the loss was bad for the party Obama had led for eight years, but wasn’t he leaving the White House to pursue other interests, like every other former commander in chief? Why had Obama taken it to heart as if he were still an active participant in U.S. politics? Because the bigger message he was sending was that he wasn’t going anywhere, especially now with Trump entering the White House.”
This is a really good book documenting the myriad ways Trump’s political career has been targeted for sabotage by the Shadow Network (bureaucratic, technological, academic, financial and cultural) coalition of mainstream progressive forces.
It’s well written with great content (mature retrospective view on the whole Obama-coup era which is fascinating but also consistently extremely frustrating to read since it’s like the blatant corruption of the past decade has become completely normalized), but what I find most notable and enjoyable is the quality of the physical book itself! It’s a beautifully published book and the nicest feeling book to read that I’ve held in a very long time. That may sound strange, but it’s true and an important component to an enjoyable read.
