With March Madness, just ten days away; I knew it would be a great time to pick this one up.

Like Caitlin Clark, I am an Iowa girl. As a kid I cheered for the Hawkeyes -- especially in basketball. When I was a student at Iowa State, I cheered for the Cyclones. The University of Iowa Hawkeyes were our biggest rival. Once I had a boyfriend who got tickets to a men's basketball game between the two. It was exciting to watch, but that was well before the Caitlin Clark era.

Fast forward to the 2020's and women's basketball at U of I is becoming so popular that some venues have to be moved to accomodate spectators. With Caitlin Clark as point guard, the Hawkeyes went to the Final Four in two consecutive years. While they did not win, the ratings were record breaking and the stands were filled with celebrities along with faithful fans.

This book gives a comprehensive view of Clark's life along with lots of great full-color pics. Along with inside info about her competitive drive are tips for kids about balancing the will to win with a healthy mental outlook. Also included are some great basketball facts, profiles on other greats, and how tos on polishing your own skills.

Due to be released in April (to commemorate one year in the WNBA, perhaps), I am glad I got a chance to read it before we get into the NCAA tournament later this month. Thank you to becker&mayer!kids and Edelweiss+ for a DRC in exchange for an honest review.

I am from Indiana, where basketball is the favorite team sport. I loved playing in junior high school and really enjoyed working with a team. Since I love basketball, i really enjoyed the emphasis on practice. I totally agree, practice makes a big difference! I am a shortie, at 5'2" but I learned out to make baskets from close distances and defense tactics. Basketball, as Caitlin Clark know is a very exciting game. You need to be on your toes at all times, keep a look out for players that you want to toss to and players getting ready to block you.

Caitlin Clark developed her love for the game by playing her other brothers at home, starting at five years old. Fiercely competitive, she had to learn to calm down, and control her temper when losses happened. You learn a lot of facts about her including her favorite snack, movie, and about Bella, her golden retriever.

You also learn more about the history of women's basketball and what I loved the most, the part about how to play like Caitlin. That includes defensive tactics, constant scanning, engaging defenders and more.

If you love basketball, you will love this book.

This biography is suitable for ages eight through adult, including families, and elementary through high school readers. The author presents Clark as a well-rounded person who values her sport and her many other interests and all of the people, especially family, who have been her role models and mentors.

I was a middle school teacher for many years, and I used biographies of this kind to motivate struggling readers. This book, and others like it, could be used to develop a curriculum incorporating different skills, including math, science, and history. A small group of students could read this biography and, with guidance from their teacher, research the origin and history of basketball as well as coaches and players of the past at the college and professional levels.

There are a lot of lessons to be learned from Caitlin Clark's story, as is true of many athletes. Her success is rooted in values which apply to success in all pursuits: practice, determination, goal setting, and the support of one's family and friends.

An excellent example of worthwhile reading for children and families!

As a retired 35-year teaching veteran, I still love reading books geared toward the age level of the students who were in my classroom. I also love Caitlin Clark, and I admit I was directly impacted by "The Caitlin Clark Effect," even attending 3 of her Fever games.
The lay-out of this book is inviting, the text is fun and well-written, and the extra basketball facts are educational. The only comment I have is about the section entitled "Double Standard." The media should take most of the blame for the race baiting in the WNBA. No argument: ALL players should be treated equally, and Clark acknowledges that in her Time Magazine feature. However, the Reese/Clark "rivalry" makes for great media drama due to both superstars "looking different," rather than focusing on their talents on the court.

I knew that she was a phenomenon but it was fascinating to learn about “The Caitlin Clark Effect.” As a former athlete and coach, I loved learning about her backstory, and what makes her tick. The writing here is so clear and engaging: I think it will inspire young athletes for years to come.

This book is great for basketball newbs (like me) as well as Clarkies. Great book for my 9-yr-old daughter, because it discusses Clark dealing with the perfectionism that comes with her competitive drive—it’s real and very inspiring!
