Seizing the day is great—but snagging a dating coach is better.
All I wanted was to finally say hi to my longtime crush. Instead, I slipped on a puddle of coffee and landed in the arms of Finn Reynolds—the infuriatingly charming newcomer in town. When I tried again, I got utterly tongue-tied. Now I’m blushing, flustered, and somehow caught in Finn’s ridiculous proposition.
With plans to become our library’s next director, Finn has one major winning over the standoffish locals. If I agree to shift popular opinion in his favor, he’ll become my personal dating coach. I’m more fluent in fictional dukes than real-life flirting, but I’m also ready to step out of my shell.
As we navigate trial dates along the seaside and late-night pep talks, I start to feel more confident—more myself. And the way Finn looks at me? It’s impossible to ignore the sparks between us—or how sizzling those practice kisses are.
But Finn’s hiding a big secret—one that doesn’t stay buried for long. And the truth turns out to be a plot twist I definitely didn’t see coming.
Enjoy the playful banter and sizzling kisses of this dating coach, secret identity, small beach town, closed-door/kisses-only romance by grabbing your copy TODAY!
Seas the Dating Coach is the first book in the Wilks Beach Series, but can be read as a standalone.
Laura Langa is an award-winning sweet romance author. She strives to write stories that pull at her readers’ heartstrings and create relatable characters you can’t help but root for. Laura loves trees and all things green, hates flossing but forces herself to do it every night, drinks tea—not coffee, and believes that salt air can often cure a bad mood.
I loved everything about this book and wish I could reread it afresh again. The "he falls first" and "shy girl" vibes were fantastic. Not to mention she was a reader and he was a librarian. The backstory the swoony tension kept me turning the pages until I finished in one sitting.
For someone who is hit/miss on the dating coach trope I enjoyed this book a lot! I thought the banter and flirting were great and let me tell y’all, there were so many kissing scenes??? I love a a good heated kissing scene.
The relationship dynamics between Finn and Vivian were wonderful. I loved that they pushed each other to step outside comfort zones, lean on each other and find that strong bond of trust. I absolutely think these two have a HEA that surpasses the end of this book. There were multiple sweet and tender moments that made my heart squeeze.
I also really appreciated how the third act was handled as well as some of the background reveals between characters. Things could have easily gone sideways and blessed be, they did not. I love when characters communicate and trust the person they have gotten to know to explain themselves first before jumping to conclusions.
Laura Langa continues to deliver fantastic closed door romances.
Overall audience notes: - Contemporary Romance - Language: none - Romance: kisses - Content warnings: a manipulative father
What a fun, sweet audio book! The duet narration really brought this story to life, too. Finn and Vivian’s layers slowly appear throughout the story as they fall for each other while not meaning to.
Even though Finn, at first, appears to have everything together and under control in his life, he has some very big worries that overwhelm him at times. And Vivian has been living a subdued life, always afraid to take any step away from her quiet existence. These two really need each other and bring out the best in each other in the most wonderful of ways.
This novel has lots of swoony romantic tension, emotional vulnerability, and the realization of what love truly is as Vivian and Finn fall for each other.
I was wondering how the author was going to wrap up the book in a happily ever after against what seemed to potentially be overwhelming odds, but she did it in a satisfying way that I felt made sense to the story. I’m looking forward to reading future books in this series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
This was a swoony, small Virginia beach town, dating lessons, kissing only, dual POV romance with a touch of magic between Finn, a rich male librarian aiming to become director and Vivian, a sweet, innocent woman looking to find the courage to make a move on her crush, Atticus.
I really enjoyed the steamy banter between the MCs, the small town vibes, all the library talk and the emotional depth and humor the author brought to the story. It was also good on audio and I can't wait to see what's next in this new Indie romance series set in Wilks Beach Virginia.
As a public library director, I wanted to love this. I mean—hot librarian as the male love interest? Yes, please. Sign me up for that library card.
Unfortunately, this one just didn’t work for me. The author clearly wanted to shine a light on the world of public libraries (which, yay in theory), but the way it was handled felt clunky and distracting. Instead of letting that info come out naturally in conversation between the characters, it was all delivered through internal exposition, with Finn’s internal monologue—and not in a way that felt true.. It wasn’t “Finn thinking about work,” it was “the author explaining libraries at the reader.” It read like an awkward library PSA tucked into a rom-com, and it really pulled me out of the story.
Add to that a cast of characters who felt more like exaggerated caricatures than real people, and it just became too much. As much as it pained me, I had to tap out at 25%. Great concept in theory—but the storytelling just didn’t deliver.
There’s nothing I love more than a meet-cute and this one is not only sweet, but hilarious and ultra embarrassing, and if I can’t go to a beach for reals, a book beach is the next best thing.
What I loved: 🐚Vivian struggles with speaking 🐚Finn loves books ‼️Major green flag 🐚There’s an almost enemies/rivals energy, which only makes that banter extra…bantery 🐚Secret identity anyone?? 🐚Small, beach town where everyone knows everything and everyone and everything about everyone 🐚Fashion designer 🐚Vivian loves to read, especially Regency books (we’re basically twins) 🐚Pushing against expectations, especially if they don’t ring true to you 🐚Dating coach–and we all know what that means–practice kisses 💋
This is my first book by Laura Langa and just so happens to be the first book in a new series–Wilks Beach–and it’s guaranteed this won’t be my last by her. I thoroughly enjoyed her writing style, descriptions, interactions, and vibe. The narration was duet and fantastic!
From start to finish, I was in love with everything about this one.
Content: mild romance

Seas the Dating Coach by Laura Langa is a lighthearted romantic comedy centered around 27-year-old Vivian Hutchinson, a socially awkward woman who has spent much of her life letting her more confident twin sister speak for her. Living in a small coastal town, Vivian dreams of a romance with a local man, but her shy nature holds her back. Enter Finn Reynolds, a mysterious yet charming library manager who volunteers to help Vivian win over her crush. Of course, as they spend more time together, Vivian and Finn develop feelings for each other in a sweet, slow-burn fashion.
The book starts off strong—charming, quirky, and full of promise. The small-town setting adds a cozy backdrop, and the early dynamic between Vivian and Finn is both amusing and endearing. One of the highlights of the story is Vivian’s personal growth. Watching her break free from the roles others have placed her in and find her own voice is genuinely satisfying.
However, while the story had heart and a few memorable moments, it didn’t fully stand out. The romance, though cute, felt a bit predictable, and the plot didn’t quite deliver the emotional depth or unique spark I hoped for. It’s a pleasant, feel-good read, but ultimately, it didn’t leave a lasting impression.
Overall, Seas the Dating Coach is an okay romance novel—sweet and enjoyable, but not one that will stay with me for long.
Thank you Net Galley / Dreamscape Select / West East Publishing for this audiobook ARC.
This was a super sweet romance book! The storyline was easy to follow along. I always love a small town romance where one of them is an outsider and the other is a well loved by the towns people and they are protective over her. The banter between the two was cute and had me giggling. Them pushing each other outside of their comfort zones was a perfect way for them to build trust for each other and eventually fall in love. I loved that he was always thinking about her, what she would like, how she would react, and always standing up for her. Also - he’s a librarian and she loves reading.. can we say perfect match? 😍
The ending was so cute, him sending her off on a much needed vacation and then showing up just to surprise her? Ugh so cute. I also would love to have a story about his sister, she seems super interesting and sweet, I wish she was in it a little more!
It was a quick listen that I finished while doing some work and the narrators did a great job. I was very happy that it was a duet book! I can’t stand when it’s a dual where they only read their POV. These narrators fit the characters very well!

A charming coastal romance that’s as warm and cozy as a seaside blanket 🐚☕. This one gave me all the comfort read vibes. The audiobook, with its dual narrators, brought the story to life so well—each voice perfectly suited to the characters.
It took me a little while to truly connect with the characters, but I’m so glad I stuck with it. By the end, I was smiling through tears 🥹💘. I really enjoyed the sweet, shy, nerdy heroine and the tall, dark, and handsome outsider who not only notices her but really sees her. Their chemistry was soft and earnest, and the setting—a quaint small town—was the perfect backdrop for a slow-burn love story.
If you're in the mood for a feel-good romance with gentle humor, a hero to swoon for, and a heroine to root for, give this one a listen!
Small town Enemies to lovers Clean romance Small town vibes Secret identity
Duet narration - Rylee Kuberra & John Joseph Rogers Great narration they did a great job
This is a cute and sweet romantic comedy. Clean romance only a couple kisses.
Finn is the new librarian in town and the town hates him. They don’t approve of his changes to the library. Vivian is a small business owner who is terrified to talk to men/people she doesn’t know and has a MASSIVE crush on a local guy.
Finn needs Vivian’s help with the town and she could use his help with talking to her crush. These two become closer and it turns into more.
Laura Langas writing is very sweet, funny, and enjoyable. If you’re interested in a clean and fun romcom then give this one a try.
Ugh, do I even have the words!? I mean… let’s start with that first kiss. I love love love when you get an early first kiss! Slow burn, no thank you! Though, they did take a while to finally admit their feelings.
I adored the way they supported each other, pulled each other from their shells. And he’s a librarian!? I mean, come on! But he also works out. So clearly Finn is perfect. And he has a ball very nearly just for her!? He might be my favorite MMC yet!
If you haven’t picked this one up yet, you’re missing out! Go read it on KU now!
This was such a lovely and heartwarming story, and my new favorite from Laura Langa.
It’s full of fun moments, swoony romance and kisses, fantastic chemistry and bantering between the MCs, but it’s also got a serious side to it.
Vivian and Finn are wonderful characters and I immediately fell in love with them. After the heartache and family trauma they both experienced, I was cheering them on to get their well deserved HEA. They’re just so perfect together.
Laura has penned another wonderful story that’s well written, has all the feels, great dialogue, and endearing characters. I loved it!
I received a complementary copy, but a positive review was not required.
Audio Review Seizing the day is great—but snagging a dating coach is better.
First, I want to say this dual narration is my favorite! John Joseph Rogers voiced all the male dialogue and Rylee Kuberra voiced all the female dialogue. I LOVE when this happens and it makes me feel more absorbed into the book. They brought this story to life and I loved every moment of it!
This is such a sweet story of finding your own voice and breaking out of the expectations others force on you. I loved the interactions between Finn and Vivian and how they worked together to accomplish their goals. The meet-cute was absolutely adorable! And Finn is such a sweet cinnamon roll MMC!
Read this for the opposites attract, hidden identity, small town vibes, and delicious banter!! This is a sweet romcom, closed door, mild romance.
Thank you to NetGalley and the author for the complimentary audio copy. All thoughts are my own. #SeastheDatingCoach #NetGalley
I haven't read this book and don't intend to, I just saw it while browsing NetGalley and felt compelled to express my disgust over the fact that they're not only playing on one word in the title, but two. It took me far too long to decode it, and I hate it with the fire of a thousand suns. That is all.
Seas the Dating Coach by Laura Langa is perfection. I loved everything about Vivian and Finn’s story. Vivian is a small town sweetheart wanting to step outside her comfort zone and the box everyone has put her in. Finn is a roguishly flirty librarian from the main land who has a secret identity. After running into each other a couple of times, Finn realizes they can help each other. Their chemistry slowly builds from strangers to acquaintances to friends then more. I found both Vivian and Finn completely endearing from the beginning. The way they understood each other, saw what others didn’t, and helped to push the other towards growth was so beautiful. They felt safe with one another in a way they didn’t with anyone else. You can tell that Finn is protective of Vivian but also encouraging. He wants so badly for her to recognize how capable she is and he pushes her just enough while being there to help her through it. Vivian sees the mask that Finn hides behind. She pushes and encourages him to be his true self. She also helps him be vulnerable and gives him the courage to overcome a big fear.
One of the things I really enjoyed about this story was the lack a drama and miscommunication. No third act break ups, misunderstandings, or forcing decisions on someone for their own good. There were a lot of opportunities to veer in those directions but Laura Langa handles those brilliantly. I know sometimes those elements are needed for the plot but I appreciate the way this story was handled differently. Their open communication and trust are part of what made this story so special.
The audiobook had me hooked from the beginning. I found myself wanting to take the long way home so I would have more time to listen. I feel like the narrators’ voices really fit the characters. I really liked how their voice inflections brought the story to life. There were times I felt like the male narrator drug his words out and the pacing was thrown off but not enough to really bother me. I would suggest previewing the audio beforehand if this is something that bothers you.
Overall, I give the book and the audio 5 stars. This was my first book by Laura Langa but I’ve already purchased more.

I looooooooved this one! Adored Finn and Vivian and the small beach town vibes! I always love the way Laura Langa writes and her word choice. Very clever and descriptive! I love her writing style!
Vivian and Finn had these great enemies to more vibes! I loved Finn’s instant draw to Vivian and how he gets protective and jealous. He was also so charming. I also enjoyed how Vivian felt safe with Finn and opened up to him in spite of her quiet nature. She was spunky and cute and loyal. Jet growth and change was so well done and I really enjoyed it. The had such fantastic tension and great flirting! Their magnetism toward each other and all the almost kisses. The slow fall of their relationship was adorable.
I really enjoyed the way the author slowly built the chapter depth, didn’t weigh down the plot at all. All the small town vibes were adorable and made me giggle. They were all so protective of each other, which I loved. The progression and pace of the book and their relationship was great and I really loved the ending. I cannot wait to read more of this new series!
I felt like Finn and Vivian had no chemistry. Vivian was too far to the extreme to have much of a personality. I am shy and have pretty severe social anxiety. She was unrealistic.
I did like the scene in the bar when Finn realized she didn't like her drink and got her one. Best part of the story.
Basically, it felt like a chore to keep reading, so I stopped.
Rylee Kuberra's narration has some issues. Audio quality is lacking. She also pops her ps a lot, so it is annoying.
I received an advance audio copy in exchange for an honest review.
Seas the Dating Coach is the first full-length story in Laura Langa ’s Wilks Beach series, which takes place on a peninsula near Virginia Beach. It is connected to the novella Rising Tides, but can absolutely be read or listened to as a stand-alone. Seas the Dating Coach is a closed-door secret identity, dating coach romantic comedy. The story is told in alternating POV from Vivian and Finn, and the audiobook features duet narration (male performs male character voices).
27-year-old Vivian Hutchinson is the most introverted person in the state of Virginia. She lives with her twin sister, Brynn, in an apartment above their businesses in Wilks Beach, a peninsula near Virginia Beach. After their parents were killed in a car accident when they were nine years old, the twins were raised by their Aunt Tammy, who owned the Sea Breeze Beans coffee shop. Vivian was so traumatized that she didn’t speak for six months afterward, and Brynn made it a habit to speak for her sister. Vivian is socially awkward and still stumbles over her words when trying to have a conversation with others. She runs a small tailoring business next door to the coffee shop and keeps different hours than her sister.
Vivian reads Regency romances and dreams of a future with Atticus Williams, a shy accountant who visits Brynn’s coffee shop each morning. Unfortunately, she is always tongue-tied around him and can’t get up the courage to speak to him. When she slips on a puddle of coffee one morning, she lands in the arms of Finn Reynolds, the handsome and rakish new Library Manager. Finn isn’t making friends with the residents of Wilks Beach, and he desperately needs to win them over in order to be promoted to Director of the Virginia Beach Library System by next year. Finn offers to help Vivian with her love life if she will help him become accepted by the community.
Vivian and Finn immediately clash, with Vivian criticizing Finn for his changes at the library. This seems to be the first time that Vivian has ever been able to articulate her thoughts to others outside her innermost circle. Vivian has always passively gone along with Brynn’s plans for the two of them, never making her own wishes known. She has allowed Brynn to order food for her, not speaking up even when she would rather eat or drink something else. Slowly she gains self-confidence to assert herself a little.
29-year-old Finn is hiding his true identity since he is estranged from his billionaire father. He left the family fold when he discovered that his fiancé, Caitlin, had signed a marriage contract created by his father, making their romance a business transaction. Finn still keeps in contact with his 19-year-old sister, Cordelia, who sends him money from her allowance. Finn’s severance deal with his father includes a provision that cuts off Cordelia’s trust fund if Finn doesn’t reach the top of his field by the age of 30. So Finn exerts all of his energy to his career success, neglecting friendships except with his drunken roommate, Alec.
Naturally Vivian and Finn fall for each other while he is serving as her dating coach. She keeps their relationship a secret, which is easy since things are strained between her and Brynn. Vivian is unaware of her attractiveness and believes that Finn is totally out of her league. Meanwhile Finn is discouraged by Vivian’s continuing interest in Atticus even after they share a passionate “practice” kiss, which is the first real kiss that Vivian has experienced. Will Vivian’s wish for a lifetime love be fulfilled by the magic sea?
Seas the Dating Coach is a familiar story with some unexpected elements, including the wish-granting ocean. The residents of Wilks Beach are a quirky bunch, and they definitely add color and humor to the story. Finn’s love of books and book preservation are unusual for a male character, along with his hidden introvert side. Vivian experiences a lot of growth during the story, slowly emerging from behind Brynn’s shadow. Brynn seems to resent Vivian at times, and the reader has to wonder why.
Seas the Dating Coach is a very clean, closed-door romance with no profanity or sex scenes. Vivian is a unicorn in that she is 27 and has never been kissed. The author uses a lot of “big” words throughout the story, showcasing her extensive vocabulary. So this book is perfect for English teachers and retired teachers who enjoy clean romances; it’s more sophisticated than the usual Hallmark-type stories. I look forward to reading the next book in the Wilks Beach series, hoping that Brynn’s story will be next.
My chief complaint of Seas the Dating Coach is the inconsistencies throughout. It needs a good editor who will catch things like Atticus Williams being referred to as Atticus Beckham later in the story. I listened to this audiobook in my car over a period of two weeks and was confused by some story elements that didn’t make sense.
The audiobook is narrated by Rylee Kuberra and John Joseph Rogers who do an outstanding job bringing life to the characters. They pronounce the many “big” words correctly, but neither narrator employs a southern accent until the character Wren appears at the Artisan Fair in Chapter 22. Virginia residents should have southern accents, and the female narrator sounds like a computer-generated voice on speed. In order for this audiobook to seem authentic, all of the Virginia-born characters should have accents like Wren.
I received an Advance Review Copy (ARC) of the audiobook from NetGalley and DreamScape Select for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
The writing was juvenile at times, and I struggled with how the FMC was portrayed as weak throughout the story. The storyline of the MMC's big secret was just bizarre and not believable, which made it hard to get invested in their relationship. The premise had potential, but the execution felt immature, and the character development was disappointing. I had to push myself through it because the weak heroine and unbelievable plot twists didn't work for me.
Seizing the day is great—but snagging a dating coach is better.
All I wanted was to finally say hi to my longtime crush. Instead, I slipped on a puddle of coffee and landed in the arms of Finn Reynolds—the infuriatingly charming newcomer in town. 💜 My Thoughts: 💜
Seas the Dating Coach is the first book in Laura Langa’s new Wilks Beach series. It’s a sweet, small town romance that features a seamstress and a male librarian as the two main characters.
I really enjoyed the chemistry between Finn and Vivian. Even though she finds him almost too charming for his own good when she first meets him, Vivian soon warms up to Finn and appreciates that he actually wants to challenge her to face and overcome her fears. The banter between them is so fun, and the more Finn coaches Vivian, the easier it is to root for her to fall for him instead of the other guy she was crushing on. In addition to the romantic angle, there’s also a secret that Finn is hiding that makes this book even more of a page turner!
If you like sweet (no spice), small town romances with characters who are just so easy to root for, definitely check this one out!
I think my heart grew two sizes larger while reading this book! I love a small-town romance, and this was such a sweet, fun, and emotionally rich read.
Vivian grew up in the small town of Wilks Beach, and all of townspeople are tremendously protective of her, as is her twin sister, Brynn. Vivian is kind, a talented tailor and designer, but she is painfully shy and often stumbles over her words when she gets nervous.
She’s had a crush on Atticus, a handsome accountant, for some time now, but he’s never seemed to notice her. Every time she tries to muster up the courage to talk to him, she fails. And then one morning, she is ready to make her move at her sister’s coffee shop, and she slips on a puddle of coffee and falls into the arms of Finn, a handsome newcomer to town.
People in Wilks Beach don’t have a lot of trust in “mainlanders,” but Finn in particular is very unpopular. As the new director of the town library, his plans to improve everything are met with resentment, even though they will make everything better. So when Finn realizes that Vivian can’t seem to approach Atticus, he offers to be her dating coach. In exchange, she’ll start to correct the misconceptions about Finn and his plans.
Vivian has no idea how beautiful and how brave she is, and Finn delights in helping her realize that. For his part, Finn has never let anyone get too close for fear they’d hurt him, but the more he coaches Vivian, the harder he falls. But he has to keep reminding himself that she wants Atticus, not him.
I first became familiar with Laura Langa when I read her holiday novel that took place in Wilks Beach. I was so glad to go back to that setting, and I look forward to more books in this series!! It seems like a terrific small town.
Thank you so so much to the author for the eARC in exchange for an honest review! I adored the lead up to this series and I just couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one!
I adore Laura’s work and think the world of her characters and the worlds she creates and Wilks Beach is a new small town that I would love to live at!
Sweet, adorable and a lovely read - Seas the Dating Coach is a great romance to read to get into the summer mood! Small towns, beach scenes and coastal fun - this book has it all to bring the summery vibes to your day!
Seas the Dating Coach follows Vivian - local sweetheart and seamstress of Wilks Beach - who’s trying to get the attention of her crush. Along the way, mainlander and newcomer Finn offers to help her in exchange for helping him convince the residents of the small town that he’s here to help the local library and community not hurt it.
Vivi and Finn’s chemistry was brilliantly done. The build-up from strangers to friends to lovers was a joy to read and I loved the way they got comfortable with one another. I just think the author has an amazing way of building gradual chemistry between two love interests and this book really shows this.
I loved the charm of the small town the author created too - the backdrop of this romance novel was such a great setting.
One thing I would say… is that it sort of dragged a bit. Not much was happening around 75% and I was slowly losing interest - luckily it picked up but I did find myself feeling like it dragged…
If you love small town romances with a bit of slow burn and he falls first you will adore this book! I’m so excited for more for this series - especially Geneva! I think she may be my favourite background character so far!
CW/TW : Dysfunctional family, talks of losing parents, discussions of drowning
📚 Plot Snapshot When curvy seamstress Vivian reluctantly agrees to let the quiet, bookish librarian Finn help her re-enter the dating world, she doesn’t expect him to be the one to win her heart. As her self-image evolves and secrets about Finn’s past come to light, both must decide if love is worth the risk.
🖋️ Writing Style Vibe Snappy, sweet, and heartwarming—with just the right touch of depth.
❤️ My Highlights
✨ First time reading an MMC who’s a librarian—loved it! ✨ Vivian is a curvy, creative seamstress who sews her own clothes—such a unique and empowering FMC. ✨ Loved the themes of misjudgment, social stigma, and rediscovering confidence.
💭 My Thoughts
This book offers a heartfelt and refreshing start to a new series, anchored by two compelling and well-matched leads. I especially appreciated the unique portrayal of Finn—a male librarian who might be flirty on the outside has an introspective nature that made him a standout romantic hero. His backstory (no spoilers!) adds real emotional depth, and it was deeply satisfying to see him fully seen and valued by someone like Vivian.
Vivian, for her part, is creative and yet shy but her sense of self shines through in her handmade wardrobe and empathetic spirit. She brings warmth and light into Finn’s world, and their relationship feels deeply mutual and emotionally sincere. Instead of relying on over-the-top drama, their chemistry unfolds with grace and authenticity, offering a love story that feels both gentle and empowering.
🤔 What I didn’t like (if anything) Some flirty moments felt a little too much for me personally—but if you love that style of flirtiness, this will probably be a hit.
🔍 Advisory Notes 🌶️ Spice: None 💬 Language: Mild 💞 Romance: Sweet with descriptive kisses ℹ️ Content Info: * Manipulative father * Divorce * Drowning (past) * Misjudgment and social assumptions * Body positivity and self-worth
This is book one in the Wilks Beach series, and I listened to the audiobook provided by NetGalley. It’s a small-town summer romance with a closed-door vibe that was light and easy to follow. While it had some charming moments, it didn’t fully land for me, and in the end, it felt more like a pleasant listen than a standout one.
Vivian is a shy dressmaker who’s never even been kissed, and when she finally gets the courage to speak to her longtime crush, she ends up slipping in a puddle and falling straight into the arms of the new librarian in town. Vivian is insecure and unsure of herself, but I liked seeing her slowly come out of her shell.
Finn is the new guy in town and the library director who has some baggage of his own. He’s suave, confident, and definitely not the typical librarian type. I actually liked that about him. He’s trying to fix his reputation in town while distancing himself from his powerful and controlling billionaire father. He strikes a deal with Vivian: in exchange for her helping improve his reputation with the locals, he’ll be her dating coach. It’s a win-win situation for them both.
There were some fun moments and I appreciated the chemistry, but I do wish the magical sea element had been explored more instead of just lightly touched on. It had so much potential to be whimsical and unique, and it just felt like an afterthought. The romance was sweet and clean, and even though it didn’t completely blow me away, I still enjoyed the story for what it was.
I really loved both narrators. Rylee Kuberra brought Vivian’s awkward charm to life, and John Joseph Rogers captured Finn’s confident tone perfectly. They made it an easy and engaging listen from start to finish.
This was a quick, clean, small-town romance that had its charm but didn’t fully stick with me. It might be a better fit for someone in the mood for something light, sweet, and low-angst.
Thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, and West East Publishing for the advanced listening copy.
I loved everything about Seas the Dating Coach – the setting, the characters, the romance! You have a shy girl - fiercely protected by her beach town residents – who collides with a debonair and flirty new to the town librarian. Finn is immediately drawn to Vivian and she wants nothing to do with him … at first. They both need something from the other, so they make a deal. He will help her talk to her crush and she will help him gain favor with the locals.
Finn and Vivian are great together. They push each other past their comfort zones. Finn is so tender with her, believes in her, and continually encourages her. Vivian sees through his façade, sees the real him and wants him to know he is worth it.
Seas the Dating Coach is so endearing. The chemistry between Finn and Vivian is believable and their banter was natural and funny. I loved how as they became more comfortable with each other, their true self shined brightly. The trust and friendship they built was strong and I think, empowering to both of them. They helped each other conquer their fears.I just adored Finn and Vivian!
I enjoyed the plot twists along the way. I could not believe the pompous audacity of Finn’s father and Finn’s little sister, Cordelia, is a spitfire! I also liked several of the “islanders” and hope to see their stories in the future. I highly recommend Seas the Dating Coach!
Some of my favorite things: Finn calls her "Gorgeous," the clandestine meetings, Vivian's love of all things regency, the other "islanders," the practice kissing, and the overcoming of fears.
- Seamstress FMC - Librarian MMC - He falls first - Secret identity, - Small beach town - Playful banter
Have you ever attempted to step outside of your comfort zone, and have it gone completely opposite of how you thought it would, then you might feel a kinship to Vivian!
Vivian has grown up on Wilks Beach alongside her twin, Brynn, and while they get along, they’re opposites! Vivian got the curves and is introverted. She sticks mostly to herself, sewing, swimming, and reading! With her hopes being put into an ocean wish, she has finally worked up the nerve to talk to him! Him being Atticus Williams, the lanky accountant who’s perfect in her eyes. Just as she’s going to finally talk to him, she slips only to have another man catch her. Oops!
Finn is the mainlander that nobody really trusts but is the new branch manager of the library. Wilks Beach is a close-knit community and he’s struggling to fit in, even after he prevents Vivian from falling. Later that same day he unofficial attempts to be her wingman before hatching a plan, she helps him connect with the locals to help fundraise for the library and he gives her sensible dating advice, so Atticus is more attainable! This all sounds so logical that there’s no way they could fail…
Over the course of the story, they do hold up their end of the bargains all while trying to not be attracted to each other! I love this because best laid intentions and the busybodies in a small town can’t help but make you giggle! The secret subplot of this story is super intriguing and will having you wanting more until it is completely revealed. Also, as much as small towns have their quirks, this story wouldn’t be the same without Brynn, Carol, and Geneva. This book is a worthwhile summer read regardless of your location! Can’t wait to come back to visit… hopefully soon!
I think this may have been better for me if I didn’t listen to it. I really wanted to like this. I kept trying!! The story is cute, but like… I was cringing and eye-rolling through a lot of it. 🫣
Vivian is a never-been-kissed 27 year old who lives in a small beach town and dreams of designing dresses, however struggles with speaking to people she doesn’t know well after her parents died suddenly when she was a child. Vivian is crushing on a man named Atticus, and when she gets the nerve to try to talk him, she slips on a puddle of coffee and the new library director, Finn—is the one to catch her. Knowing the hatred of him by so many in her town, she is immune to his charm.
When bumping into him in the library later, she is irritated when he is yet again witness to her inability to speak to her long-time crush. He makes a deal with her—he’ll coach her in dating and how to talk to people, if she’ll help repair his reputation with the town. All he wants to do is improve the library so he can work his way up and get away from the grasp of his billionaire father. 🙄
Of course, as time goes on, they start to develop feelings for each other. A cute development with minimal spice 🌶️ throughout but clear character and feeling development!
Sadly this book just had a few ick factors for me:
1) Finn calls Vivian “Gorgeous” (as a nickname) despite not knowing her at all, making him sound douchey right from the start.
2) Self deprecating FMC - I can’t with the “he can’t really like lil ol’ me” vibes. Nope, not into it.
3) The narration of Finn by John Joseph Rogers really killed this for me. It was hard to get through it honestly. He sounded like such a tool. It likely would have been higher stars for me if I just read it and didn’t listen. Rylee Kuberra who voiced Vivian did a good job, not wow, but good!
Overall, I wanted to like this—I truly did, and I’m sure it’s a better read than a listen, but I can’t bring myself to go back. 😣
Thanks to NetGalley for the ALC in exchange for my honest review!
This book was such a delightful surprise! It's one of those cozy, feel-good romances that makes you smile the whole way through. Vivian is shy, bookish, and way more comfortable with fictional dukes than real-life flirting—which I found adorable and instantly relatable. All she wants is to talk to her longtime crush, but fate has other plans. Enter Finn Reynolds: charming, confident, and just a little too smooth for his own good. The dating coach setup is adorable, and the trial dates around the beach town are pure fun. I loved the playful banter, the late-night pep talks, and the gradual confidence boost as Vivian starts stepping out of her shell. And yes—those “practice” kisses? Sizzling without crossing into anything explicit, which makes this a perfect closed-door romance. Finn is sweet and supportive, but he’s also hiding a secret that adds a surprising twist to the story. I genuinely didn’t see it coming, and it kept things interesting without taking away from the romance. If you enjoy small-town settings, fake dating vibes, secret identities, and slow-burn chemistry with lots of heart, this book is absolutely worth picking up. I listened to this as an audiobook and it was an absolute treat. The narration was well done and really brought the story and characters to life. I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley and Dreamscape Select and am voluntarily leaving my review.
A quiet local, Vivian, in a small mystical beach town agrees to make a deal with the outsider that moved to town, Finn. He needs help getting the town to like him and she needs a dating coach. (TW: grief, blackmail)
Audiobook release date 7/30/25. Thank you to NetGalley for the ALC.
I liked the quirky small town. I liked the pacing, but the plot was chaotic, especially at the end. Vivian is adorable and relatable and had great character development. The MMC is unusually intense for no reason.. especially about the library (which makes him seem so unrealistic). I wouldn’t consider this a rom-com because I didn’t find any part funny.
The narrators’ over enunciation is distracting and very annoying. The woman is very chirpy and the man is overly arrogant sounding like Gaston. By the end of this audiobook, I was very annoyed by these narrators and couldn’t even make myself listen to the epilogue.
There’s so many seconds of no sound at all at the end of every chapter that I kept thinking my earbuds died or disconnected every single chapter. 🤦♀️
At 22% “hoof and mouth disease.” Umm what? It’s FOOT and mouth disease. I’ve even heard “hand FOOT mouth disease” but never hoof. Has this book been edited?
Everyone does NOT pee in the shower. Gross.
What kind of grown man doesn’t know a car needs gas?

I've been reading more and more audio books lately. I love them for when I do my workouts. And when I'm driving by myself. I might start listening to more when I'm alone during the day as well.
This book on audio was so great! I loved the way the male reader, John Joseph Rogers, was so dramatic. He made the character of Finn just come alive.
Speaking of Finn, I loved his character. It was kind of interesting how the people of Wilks Beach treated him, well newcomers in general. They really had a strong distrust of them and didn't include them in anything. Until Vivian got involved. I loved how Finn treated Vivian as a strong woman, instead of a timid child. That was how most of the island community treated her. And it was sad, because that was how she saw herself because of it.
Vivian is a great character as well. And I loved how the reader read her parts. Rylee Kuberra did such a great job! She might be my current favorite female reader.
Vivian had a crush and she wanted to do something about it, but she wasn't able to speak whenever the man was around. And that's how Finn helped her. I loved the way she came out of her shell when she was around him. And how, little by little, she fell for him in a big way!
This book was so great! I can't wait for the next book in the series!
