A young woman’s abduction mirrors an unsolved murder from the 1980s. Sheriff Jenna Graves stands “as an intermediary between the living and the spectral voices of the deceased” as she struggles to decipher cryptic messages to prevent history from repeating itself. Jenna has a surprise in her crime fighting tool kit – she talks to the dead in dreams; she doesn’t publicize the ability because she doesn’t want people to think she’s a whackadoodle, but sometimes those dreams are the thing that gives her the edge in solving crimes.
I thoroughly enjoyed this second book in the series. The characters are well-developed, the plot held my interest all the way through, and the mystery is solid. I like how the author doesn’t make a big deal of Jenna’s abilities, but presents them in a way that is believable. I liked the relationship between Jenna and her partner. He struggles with her “abilities” but he has seen the results and that’s what counts for him. And Jenna doesn’t just rely on the talk-to-the-dead thing, she still follows procedure and uses her other skills. This is an engaging series, and I will read more in it.
Sheriff Jenna Graves has an unusual psychic ability - crime-solving through vivid dreams - right from the start of Blake Pierce's excellent psychological thriller, In Her Mind.
When a young woman goes missing her parents notify the Sheriff's office. Initially there is no evidence of foul play...but that may soon change.
Links to a past tragedy and its after-effects that have carried on with deadly effect until now, keep the story nail-biting to the end. With dynamic characters and lots of action throughout, it's sure to grip you firmly by the imagination and eager for the next in series.

Okayyy, so I've seen a pattern in the way Blake Pierce writes his book based on the Jenna Graves series. He started with the victims POV then the rest of the chapters are about how Jenna encounters linked deaths to the new death, how those dead people leave clues one way or another, it may be cryptic or so obvious but you still can't figure it out without reading the whole book. I've rated the first book 5 stars and this one, it's 4.75/5. Why? It's boring started from first few chapters up to 45% of the story. It's the pattern. As much as I want clarity and an easy read, recognizing the pattern in early part of the book is not what I want. I want to be confused so that the conclusion of the story would be a blast. But I like the ideas of the crime. It's all serial killings here though.
Although I like the main character, I had a harder time getting into this second book of the Jenna Graves series; which may have been due to the fact that the plot held too many similarities to the previous book in the series. Aside from that issue, I enjoy Blake Pierce’s smooth writing style, as it seems to nearly flow off the pages. Better yet, Jenna’s use of dreams to solve crimes definitely adds to the overall story. Even so, while I plan to continue with the series, I felt this current novel was a bit lackluster compared to Pierce’s other novels.
Jenna has been having strange visions that might or might not be linked to the disappearance of the school teacher. She'll give her best, counting with Frank's (her mentor) and Jake's (her partner) help. But reality is much more gruesome than what anyone could think and the culprit someone who was thought to be a respectable member of the community. In Her Mind is fast-paced and makes a quick and entertaining read! I thank Ms. Pierce for this ARC.
Really a great book. Just so clever with the premise of a sheriff who has dreams of dead people that help her find justice. It almost sounds like it’s an easy way for her to solve these cases, but it’s not. It’s really kind of an interesting concept. I love that they’re nota violent vicious series, either. I’ve read somewhere. They are violent and vicious, which is fine sometimes, but I don’t think it would work well with this. I’d like the way these are written.
So far this series has been an easy listen. Enough suspense and thrill to keep me entertained and engaged. The narration of these audiobooks has been pretty decent as well. I have been enjoying it. This was also pretty fast-paced and quick!
Another well written one. Everything just comes together in this one, melds together. A little more inside on her abilities and the understanding and working with it from her deputy.
Jenna Graves, a sheriff of a small town, has dreams that help her solve cases. When a young woman goes missing, sheriff Graves pieces together the puzzle in attempt to locate the missing woman, all the while, solving a cold case. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
No surprises. But yet held my attention. The relationship between Jake and Jenna is growing. Her mentor and ex boss is amazing, they have a great bond.
“In Her Mind”, the second book in the Jenna Graves series, was a bit of a miss for me compared to the first. I still really like the paranormal element of Jenna’s dreams—that’s a big part of what drew me to the series—but this installment felt very similar in structure and tone to book one.
I had a hard time getting into the beginning, and as the story went on, the plot started to feel repetitive rather than fresh. Because of that, this ended up being a lower-rated read for me; I was hoping for more originality and development beyond what we’d already seen in the series opener.
