The Rise And Fall Of A Prophet

Rate this book
This book is a cautionary read that delves into the pressures of a high profile minister being driven to the point of exhaustion, and his refusal to be held accountable. It touches on important matters of abuse, addiction, and mental health. It is the honest reveal of a man who, while being highly regarded by many as a prophet of God, a general of the faith, and a conduit to bring the manifestation of God's glory to Earth, was also equally regarded by others as being a false prophet and a charlatan.

The full story is now being shared by Jeff Jansen's wife and ministry partner for twenty-eight years, Jan Jansen. This book is a candid narrative that sheds light on things that were hidden behind closed doors, as Jeff Jansen began a shocking and steady downward spiral, the years of abuse, alcoholism, and the affects of a disorder not widely known about or understood, finally taking their toll. The period of living with, and ministering with Jeff Jansen is shared honestly by the woman who steadfastly continued to forgive him, and to give him every chance to turn things around. It is her hope that this book will serve as a warning to the prophetic church, urging all ministers to embrace a life of holiness and true reverence for the Lord, and to yield to being accountable to others in the faith. The anointing of God is a supernatural gift, but our integrity is the gift that we give back to Him.

It is Jan's belief that "The Rise And Fall Of A Prophet" could just as easily be titled "The Rise And Fall Of A Worshiper" or "The Rise And Fall Of A Pastor", or "The Rise And Fall Of A Sunday School Teacher". Anyone is susceptible to falling, especially following a meteoric rise. She urges the reader to recognize the signs that lead to such a fall, and to seek help in order to avoid the sad and tragic ending of a man who once walked with God.

I book that is a warning to us all that we must always examine our hearts when given any platform because if we aren't ready for it, it will consume us.

I must read especially for those in the prophetic

I work in research. One of the failings in this area is it nobody publishes the failures, nobody puts out the documents about what went wrong. So the mistakes are repeated more money and time wasted and what could have been learned by what didn't go right.
The church world is much the same no one wants to talk about what may not have been a happy ending.
God doesn't waste pain and suffering. Whether it be from our own poor choices or what has happened to us.
Trust in this world has been lost on every level. I think honesty is a way for the church body to start getting it back again not hiding it in the closets, allowing the gossip to fester.

Jan thank you for being brave enough to document this. I think it is a needed story to be told.

mixed feelings about this book

I feel for the author. Living with a loved one who had unresolved trauma and quite possibly had a legitimate mental disorder is tough. Having said that, it seems she hasn’t worked through her pain enough before writing this book. The result is a compilation of empathy-enduring stories but also comments that come across as off-putting. For instance, to keep saying Jeff was too prideful makes her look prideful. In terms of writing skills, I found certain sections of the book repetitive, almost like she didn’t know when to stop or because she didn’t know how to edit herself and be succinct.

Excellent excellent excellent book !

I heard Jan on a podcast she talked about her husband's damaged soul having parts, that's what got my attention. She explained his fragmented soul so well, it helped me understand a lot. The first few chapters told of their healthier years where the glory of God showed up at their meetings. It was awesome to read about. Then she told in detail the sad years. I don't know how she got through those years. I think a movie could be made of their lives and keep all glued to our seats.

Everyone should read this book

What I took away from this book is a sober warning to always stay humble and what can happen if you become prideful, refusing to humble yourself. I believe every person should read this!
