This was such a heartwarming and fun cozy fantasy about found family, responsibility, romance, and finding your path in life. A Fellowship of Librarians and Dragons follows Doli, a dwarf who inherits a dragon egg and now must take care of a baby dragon. Doli’s friends and family help her with the dragon and she learns responsibility. Doli also meets a gargoyle librarian Sarson who she becomes close to.

I was immersed in this cozy fantasy from the first page. The pacing was almost perfect, it only slowed down in the middle and then picked up again. The plot was interesting and engaging. I loved that this book featured even more magical creatures than the first book including dragons, gargoyles, wizards and more. This book felt like a warm hug and I loved the fall vibes! I appreciated that this book showed that the little moments matter and took a break from battles. The magic was so fun and unique especially the baking magic. I wished I learned more about the history of the world but I’m also glad that there was no information dumping. I loved the characters, they were relatable and complex. I loved Doli, she was so sweet, loyal, hardworking, bubbly and resilient. Doli’s character development was great, she became more confident as the book went along and was able to rekindle her relationship with her parents. I also loved Sarson, he was helpful, kind, hardworking, aloof at first but then he opened up. I related to both Doli and Sarson since they both love to read. I hoped to see more backstory on Sarson’s character. The side characters have my heart too, especially Evvy the baby dragon (she was so chaotic and sweet), Theo, Taenya, Jez and Arleta. I wasn’t a fan of Doli’s parents at first but then they apologized and I liked them more. Doli and Sarson were great together, they had many things in common and understood one another. I loved that their relationship developed over time. The chemistry between them was lacking and it was missing a spark. There also wasn’t a talk about feelings or the future for their relationship. The ending was heartwarming but it also ended abruptly.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves cozy fantasy, awesome characters and unique magic.

☕️ Bookish Thoughts
Omg this was such an adorable and cozy read! I actually liked it even more than the first in the series!

Doli Butterbuckle (how freaking cute is that name?!) completely stole my heart. I just wanted to be her bestie. While there is a sweet romance in the story, I was here for Doli’s personal growth. She’s a people pleaser through and through, and her relationship with her parents? Oof. Boundaries are not her strong suit. Watching her finally speak up and stand her ground was so satisfying!

Also, she was the best guardian to Evvy 😍😍😍😍
This is one of those books I know I’ll come back to when I need a comfort read.

✨ Favorite Quote
What if she accidentally revealed to her friends that her personality wasn’t always a ray of sunshine? That she had bad days too… and a past she’d rather forget.

🧡 What You Can Expect:
• Cozy fantasy
• Baby dragon 😍
• Sunshine dwarf FMC
• Gargoyle MMC
• Found family
• Tea magic ☕️

I wanted to like this story really badly. The first story in the set of novels was really cute, despite being very low-key, but I found this second addition TOO low-key.

I understand that the entire point of cozy fantasy is that it's quiet and calming. However, if you can write an entire novel and literally NOTHING important happens on-screen until the last three chapters and then you have to RUSH to pack it all in...that's really bad.

The characters were great, as usual. Doli is a character we know from book one. A dwarf girl who works in a bookstore and has tea magic, which is an absolutely amazing set up. Especially when combined with Sarson, a reclusive gargoyle who loves books, is a retired librarian, and loves tea. However, the set up of the characters just wasn't utilized well.

In the beginning we're set up with the idea that Doli needs to find herself. And instead finds a dragon and more chaos than any one person should need. And yet, what should be good climbing stakes for chaos stays very flat and becomes repetitive the more that you read it. We also have a sideplot with her parents coming and the idea that they can't accept Doli for who she is because she hasn't gone into the family business. But it's a sorely neglected plotline despite being present for 3/4ths of the book.

We're also set up with Sarson having a secret back story and people sneaking around town looking for him, and yet the reveal of everything is either very flat and forced or happens--in a manner still very flat and forced--in the last two chapters of the book.

The wrap-up for so many parts of this story were really unsatisfying. And the romance was ultimately the same because so little happens ON PAGE with the characters, as opposed to SEEING the characters grow together (as both separate people and a couple) the way we did in book one.

I will say the dragon Evvy was cute. But her shenanigans became repetitive and trite and the plotline between her and her guardian was also really forced.

So, overall, I came here wanting a sweet, easy read and found one that was almost too easy. My favorite part of the book was honestly just two little bantering scenes between the two orc dads and the Fennex fox when baby Evvy escapes into the book store. Other than that, I found it flat and unmemorable, honestly not even super enjoyable. Sad times.

Doli is happy living in Adenashire, away from her parents. She enjoys the company of her friends, and everyone is excited to find out what is in the box that came from her uncle. There are a few items, but the most surprising is a dragon's egg. Doli cannot imagine why she was gifted this egg, but as the story unfolds, she gets a glimpse of the bigger picture, and finds romance with a kind gargoyle. Thanks to Edelweiss and the publisher for the ARC.

Set in the charming village of Adenashire, A Fellowship of Librarians & Dragons bubbles over with found family, quirky magical creatures, and just the right dose of gentle chaos. 💖✨

When Doli Butterbuckle inherits a dragon egg, her peaceful tea-sipping life is turned upside down. Cue magical mischief, heartfelt moments, and an utterly adorable baby dragon named Eevy who steals every scene.

I adore this series, and this latest instalment is another warm hug of a book 💕

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ – Cosy, whimsical, and full of heart 💖

Loved this book, almost as much as the first 🥰

Doli is my fav character and I would absolutely love to have tea magic like her 🍵

I think there were definitely some aspects of the book that could have done with being fleshed out more as some sections felt a little rushed but overall I had such a good time reading this before bed/first thing in the morning. It was the perfect cosy companion these past few days and I am so keen to read the next book in the series. I love this little magic world I’ve stumbled across 💜

Also love the touch of having recipes at the back of the book. It’s inspiring me to get back into the kitchen and try new things instead of making the same old thing.

This was such a fun follow-up to A Fellowship of Bakers & Magic. I loved reuniting with the familiar baker crew and seeing how they all made the move to Arleta’s hometown after the competition. Much like the first book, this one was delightfully cozy, laugh-out-loud funny, and sprinkled with a sweet, slow-burn romance. And I have to say—this love interest was totally my type. Hunky, book-loving batboy? Yes please!

The story has the same kind of comforting charm as the Dream Harbour series (TikTok fans, you’ll know what I mean), but with a cozy fantasy twist. It’s warm, whimsical, and packed with characters you can’t help but root for. I especially loved getting a POV from all my favorite characters while also being introduced to someone new in town. Doli, Sarson, and Evvy stole my heart—but I’m already counting down the days to get grumpy old Jez’s story in book three.

Yes, some parts of the writing were a bit cheesy, but honestly? That’s part of the charm. My nickname growing up was Mouse, so you know I’m all about the cheese. This series knows exactly what it is—cozy, magical comfort reading—and it delivers that in spades.

Huge thanks to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the e-ARC in exchange for my honest opinion. I’m fully invested in this charming world and can’t wait to see where the series goes next.

Happy publication day!

I really love J Penner's writing style. It's cozy, easy to read, and heartwarming, and she does a fantastic job with low stakes fantasy. It was a great pallet cleanser between more intense reads.

This book follows Doli and revisits all of the unique characters from A Fellowship of Bakers and Magic. Doli gets a surprise inheritance from her uncle, and it throws an absolute wrench in her life. This ends up being much needed because she is a little bit stuck and needed that extra push.

My only complaint about this book is I wish there was spice, but that's not the type of book it is. And I wouldn't want her to add it just for smutty readers such as myself. A clean, cozy book is exactly what I needed.

I did receive a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This needed to be about 200 pages shorter. There is a huge difference between cozy and just plain boring. This was a let down compared to book one.

Doli really bothered me for the majority of this. She would say she's so busy, list everything she needed to get done, then proceed to go sit at the bakery and talk to her friends and ignore everything? It just bothered me. I would have preferred much more interaction between Doli and Sarson.

unfortunately I have to stop reading around the 2/3 mark because the story is going nowhere and the characters are so naive that it's driving me up the wall. the first book in the series was made much better by the completion aspect because there was actually a plot structure to follow, this is just people going in circles and eating pastries.

It was such a good cozy story that is perfect for light chill read. I don’t have many words. Cause the moment we had baby dragon in story … I mean I knew it was good time and I read it literally in one day. Even that story was predictable it felt as you were wrapped in blanket with cup of hot cocoa

Do you need to read first book? 50/50. We have couple characters from Fellowship and bakers, but it’s easy to understand what is going on without first one.

Thanks NetGalley for that cutie, I enjoyed that reading and yes, as usual, all opinion are my own!

A Fellowship of Librarians and Dragons is the second book in the cozy Adenashire series and I would recommend reading the first book before this one as book one does such a wonderful job at building the foundation for this story. I absolutely loved book one, A Fellowship of Bakers and Magic, and couldn't wait to return to this cozy fantasy world!
This story follows Doli, a people-pleasing dwarf, after she inherits a dragon egg following the death of her uncle. As Doli learns to navigate life as a caretaker, she embarks on a journey to care for the young dragon with the help of her friends and also finds herself on a path of self discovery. I absolutely loved this story! I devoured this book so quickly and wish I could nestle in the town of Adenashire myself. This book makes you feel like you're living alongside your magical chosen family in a small, cozy town. Overall, the vibes are extremely cozy and while the stakes feel a little bit higher than they did in book one, this story absolutely maintains a warm and cozy feel overall.
Thank you so much to J. Penner for the gifted copy of this ARC. I cannot wait to buy a physical copy for my bookshelf!

dnf p. 150

I'm so disappointed. I loved the first one and how cozy and fun things were. I loved how fast paced it moved while still being cozy.

This one though...exuded anxious energy. I hated it. Doli was anxious and frantic and that was such a pain to read.

Evvy was also quite annoying to read. Like a dragon zooming around and causing problems is not something I'm looking for in a cozy fantasy. How is it that Doli was able to talk to Evvy in her mind in one scene and incapable of doing so in another.

Jez was unbearable in this book. I totally support her grumpy ways, but she became overbearing in this book. She hated the gargoyle and glared and told Doli to stay away and all this conspiracy theories. So exhausting to read.

Then I have a feeling that the author wanted to pair Doli with Sarson, the gargoyle, but how was a romance going to form if we've only seen him like 4 times for 2 pages each time and I'm already half of the way through the book.

This has been as cosy and delightful as the first book of the series.

This time the book is centred around Doli, a Dwarf we already have met in book one, and her adventure in Adenashire.

However, even though this features many characters who've already been present in the first book, this also can be read perfectly well as a standalone; anything you absolutely need to know about the characters that happened in book one will be briefly [re-]introduced in a way that is also not annoying to those who already read the first book.

If you enjoy cosy fantasy, I'd definitely recommend checking this one out too.

I, for one, will now [gather my party and venture forth to] read the third book in the series.

Thank you NetGalley, Poisoned Pen Press and J. Penner for the e-ARC in exchange for my review!

This was such a cute, cozy fantasy read! This story follows a dwarf named Doli who has the magical ability to make tea and works at a bookstore in Adenshire. One day she received an inheritance package from her uncle, and inside of it is a dragon egg. As the story unfolds, Doli's journey is all about finding true self while she tries to juggle her responsibilities to her friends, family and newfound dragon.

Overall, this is a pretty low-key, cozy story. I enjoyed the characters, but did feel like it was a bit lacking the "adventure" aspect I was expecting. I was also hoping that we'd get a bit more character/plot development, but I still enjoyed it. This was great as a palate cleanser and I love that it's a standalone where you don't have to read the other book in the series to know what's going on.

Very cosy and low-key, with many recurring characters from the first part. Books like this are gold for a certain difficult mood that I'm sometimes in, when depression and burnout loom on the horizon. This mood has been around the corner for a long time now and when I get to a book like this early on, it can really help me turn things around.

This time it wasn't so easy. While I like Doli, the main character, I felt like the author was a bit too shallow with her personality. There were a lot of repetitions, but too few explanations. And that's just the one example that was most obvious to me.

I still want to come back for more. The right moment for another book like this will come.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for this ARC! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This one hurt me a bit to be honest. After how much I enjoyed the first book I was really excited to be diving back into Adenashire, but this one fell flat for me.

Adenashire is so magical that it is the perfect setting for a cosy fantasy. As the first book focused on the baking competition, I was really hoping this one would expand on all the different magics and creatures living in this world. Sadly that was not the case. Instead Doli inherits a dragon egg and is tasked with raising a dragon, something she knows absolutely nothing about! While this premise could still deliver a wonderful cosy fantasy with all the mischievous things Evvy might get up to, literally nothing happens until the last 3 chapters and then it is rushing to the resolution. And while more creatures and magic is introduced there is no expansion on the world building, something that was already lacking in this series. With an entire book on Doli I was hoping for at least some insight as to why Doli has tea magic rather than the common dwarf magic, but again, no explanation is given. Doli's character has almost no depth and all her relationships were rather superficial resulting in the romance plot coming across as extremely forced.

Overall this story felt quite juvenile and didn't live up to its predecessor. Also, if you're going to mention the unicorns stampeding a dozen times, at least tell me why and what the actual impact is. Unfortunately I don't think I will be continuing this series any further.

“How many times have you imagined kissing me?

“Every exquisite second since we met.”

To be back in this world again was such a delight. I have been enjoying the Adenashire books so much. They have been a "I don't want to put them down because I need to know how this ends" type stories for me. If you enjoy the simplicity of cozy fantasy this is a pretty good one to pick up. You could also realistically read this without having read the first, but I do recommend reading them in order to be more acquainted with the characters. If you don't that's also fine, there's little updates throughout the book that talks about events of book one. I cried on 3 separate occasions because I was overwhelmed by cuteness.

This book follows Doli Butterbuckle. She was one of the participants and friends of the fmc in the first book. Doli is also a dwarf with simple but unique tea magic. She can conjure tea of all types as well as some additional add ins, depending on how you like your tea. In this book Doli is dealing a bit with internal conflict. She has always been the person that loves (and still does) making other people feel better. She is "the cheery friend", but she realizes she's been kind of broody. There's so much she needs to unpack but where to start? Her uncle that she barely spoke to passed and she has to accept inheritance. That inheritance happened to be an ugly vase, a beautiful necklace, and...a dragon egg? She has to learn how to care for a dragon and to top it off her parents are coming to visit and she has less than a days notice. Her relationship has been a little strained with them since her mother doesn't approve of what she wants to do with her life. She's not like other dwarves that dream of typical dwarve things and it creates tension between her family and her. On top of all that there's a hunky gargoyle in town and suspicions are high as new people roll into town...asking questions about HER dragon.

What to Expect:
📖Cozy Fantasy
📖Lots of Food
📖Handsome Gargoyle
📖Pink Dragon
📖New Found Family
📖Closed Door
📖 Self-Discovery

Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press and Netgalley for the review copy in exchange for an honest review. This does not change my opinion in anyway.

A Fellowship of Librarians and Dragons is a companion and follow up to A Fellowship of Bakers and Magic. Where we first follow a baker now we follow a dwarf book seller with tea magic.

Arleta and her friends have returned to her home town Adenashire. Dolli, the dwarf, works and lives at the book store Arletta's fathers own with their fox friend. When an inheritance lands on her doorstep in the form of a dragon, life will change even further for our dwarf.

Dolli is an interesting character. She's stepped out of the normal dwarf mold by entering in the baking contest and moving to Adenashire. Yet she seems scared to show her side that isn't happy and bubbly. But she has that otherwise, that gets cranky. When her parents come to town that is even more so pushed into her need to be the perfect daughter. But she's is never going to be that. I liked this part of the plot. Where she had to learn to stand up to herself and where her parents have also done some looking into themselves by the end.

However I still struggle with the depth in places like her bond with the dragon. I thought there could have been more work done there. Instead a lot of the focus went to learning new things about dragons from her love interest. I also felt that the friendships here were a little pushy. Like who invites all of their friends when a roommate, who is clearly anxious about it, has to open an inheritance box like it is some kind of spectacle? There were more little things like that between them that obstructed the view the author tried to give of his perfect friendship between them all. I feel like those relationships could also use a bit more depth.

Other than that it is an easy cozy fantasy read that is a good read between heavier fantasy.

Oh my my my, I absolutely love this group of friends, I just can’t get enough.

A Fellowship of Librarians and Dragons is book 2 in the Adenashire series and can be read as a standalone.

This book follows Doli on her journey after receiving a dragon egg. She has to learn everything about them and what to expect when the egg hatches but even books and all the information couldn’t prepare Doli for just how challenging it is. Throw in some overbearing parents, a lot of nosy people and an evil lurking in the shadows and Doli has her hands full but we get a fun story with an addicting plot.

Sarson had a past and he’s keeping it hidden for a reason. He wants change, something different to his past life and moving to Adenashire was the perfect move for him especially when he runs into the cute dwarf at the local bookshop.

Their connection was instant and their friendship was beautiful. Seeing it grow to more and quickly made my heart happy.

We get to see Doli embracing herself and her magic along the way instead of hiding away and being what she thinks everyone expects her to be. Her character growth has been lovely to see throughout the pages and she’s just a lovely character.

It has been so fun seeing all the characters from the first book in book two, it’s such a fun and unlikely friendship group but they work so well together.

It has been a complete joy reading this series and I can’t wait to pick up the next book. Jez is an interesting but grumpy character and I am so excited for her book.

This is just a sweet, feel good story about friendship and love. Doli is the kindest woman I can imagine. I understand why Evvy would choose Doli as her guardian, but why did her uncle choose to will her a dragon egg? Did he have any inkling what it was that he was entrusting to her?

Sarson is a dreamboat with wings. It was obvious that he and Doli were meant to be together from their first encounter in the book store but the courtship was just so lovely it kept me smiling as I turned the pages. I was irritated when Jez was such a jerk and tried to keep Doli away from Sarson.

Doli’s parents were everything she described them as; bossy, pretentious, and completely clueless as to their daughter’s needs and feelings. I spent the bulk of the book hoping they would come to appreciate what a wonderful daughter they had even though she wasn’t a typical dwarf.

Overall, I enjoyed this book immensely and can’t wait to pick up the next book in the series.

Thanks Net Gallery for the ARC

The first book was so wholesome, easy and fun, and I was glad I went into this book having read the first. Don’t get me wrong, you really don’t have to, you could totally read this book as a stand alone, HOWEVER, I felt so much more connected to the characters after reading book one.

I just love dragons. So a feel good, cute and easy fantasy book revolving around books and dragons? SOLD.
It was a quick read, Doli is my favourite character and I was rooting for her throughout. The writing allowed me to feel completely part of this world, it was vivid and inviting. I’m also hungry when I read these books, I have no idea why? ;)

Can i get my own dragon too please?

I really enjoyed reading a story from Doli’s point of view! She was one of my favorite characters in the first book so it was nice to learn more about her. As a people pleaser I could relate to a lot of the things she was thinking and it just made me like her more!
I’m really excited for book 3 to come out to learn more about these characters! I can’t wait for a Jez book because she’s the character I relate to the most in the stories!

This book has pretty much everything I'm looking for in a cozy fantasy book. There is a bookshop, tea magic, a fashionable Dwarf girl who falls in love with a Gargoyle with an impressive wingspan (nothing explicit happens though) and a pink baby dragon. I liked this better than the first book. The ending is a bit abrupt, though, and the writing rather simple, so only 4 stars for me.

This was a fun, sweet read, just like the first book in this series! It was a fun to revisit this cozy world and fun cast of characters. I liked the first one a little bit more, only because I feel as though we didn't have as much time with Doli and Sarson and their relationship as we did with Theo and Arleta in the first book. The same goes for the plot with the dragon, it all seemed to culminate pretty quick at the end, everything ramped up fast. I think if there had been a few more chapters to build on both the relationship and the overarching plot without going from 10 to 100 super fast, it would have been four stars. Lots of fun, though; perfect if you're looking for an easy, cozy fantasy!
