Wow! Talk about a suck you right in prelude!

I just stumbled upon this book, and gracious, did it ever pack a punch.

I have never read a Jessica Sorensen book before, and of course, am way late to the party.

This novella introduces us to Micha and Ella. Childhood best friends who love each other deeply and lustfully, but are too afraid to declare it out loud. They would rather suffer silently than risk jeopardizing their friendship.

So far this is a YA read, as they are seventeen years old for the majority of the storyline. I do believe this series will go from YA into adulthood as their romance progresses, but could be wrong. I shall soon find out.

In so many ways it is great to be way late in reading a series, because YAY, all the books are available. This book ended on a huge cliffy, and I cannot wait to get my hands on the next, in like two seconds!!

The Prelude of Ella and Micha takes place before their first book. Not only does it show what happened right before Ella took off, but we get the sweetest look into Micha Scott’s head through his teenage years.

Micha has been crazy about his best friend for the longest time. Getting his perspective from the times he was 14, 16, 17 etc and watching his feelings for Ella grow was great. They are more than just best friends. They always have been.
“Hey, I thought I was your best friend.”

“No way,” he says in all seriousness. “You’re way more than that.”

I love this series and I especially love Micha. This was a great edition and gave some nice insight into a younger Ella and Micha.

"She kisses me wholly. She kisses me for the first time. Right there in the middle of the rain. I try to tell myself the moment is perfect. That everything will be okay. That it’s the most mind- blowing, life-changing kiss I’ve ever experienced. And it is. But, it’s also the most heart-wrenching, soul-breaking kiss I’ve ever had and will ever endure.”

I think a picture is worth a thousand words...

The Prelude of Ella and Micha (The Secret 0.5) By Jessica Sorensen

Hey Guys,

I was such a doughnut I read this after the second book I was meant to read this then the first book my mistake.

This is based on when they were younger and up to the bridge scene I rated this Novella 6.5/5 stars I know what you are going to say you pretty much rated all books that same rating but I definitely rate honestly anyway onto the spoiler section.

OMG THE AMOUNT OF TIMES THEY COULD HAVE BEEN TOGETHER BEFORE THE FIRST BOOK.
The amount of times I felt so sorry for Micha he feel inlove with Ella before she did and the amount of times that they could have ended up got ruined every Bliming time.

Favorite scene has to be when Micha caught her dancing on the bed to one of my favourite songs We Got The Beat By Go Go's when you read the first book I was expecting that Ella just ran to Vegas without planning it buy she was debating whether to tell Micha to go with her the whole time I was thinking tell him tell him even though I know she doesn't.

AND OMG THE ENDING.

'It hits me like a blow to the chest, cutting so deeply, I think my heart actually cracks.
I fight to breathe.
Ella is gone.
Without me.
And she might not be coming back.'

The worst part was he pack his bag ready to leave town I literally felt like reading the first book just to see Micha end up with Ella even I though he does but the way she was saying that them kissing was weird I was mad at her for breaking his heart.

I am going to stop there because I'm doing a spoiler but not full spoiler only because it's a novella.

Happy Reading

All I can say is his book is heavy. Very heavy. I thought it was going to be childhood friends turned lovers story and it is but it's also a lot more and I don't know if I like that. Ella May has been in a mental slump since the beginning of the book and her childhood friend Micha seems to be the only person that can take her out of the slump. Well right before she ditched him to live a better life, understandable, but what if he needed her to live also?

I’ve missed these characters. Since it’s been almost a decade since i last read about them, i had worried about thinking them childish or not enjoying the writing anymore. While it is not shskespeare, this hit me straight in the feels and reminded me why these books always felt so special.

Some stories are so beautiful you never want to stop reading them, the story of Ella & Micha is one of those for me. Jessica Sorensen could continue to write their story until the characters are well into their nineties and I would still eat up every word.

Naturally, I was thrilled when it was announced that there would be a prequel to Ella & Micha. I mean, who the heck wouldn’t be. If you’ve followed the series then you’ve experienced the giddiness of love and the pain of heartache right alongside the characters that have earned a permanent place in my heart.

The Prelude of Ella and Micha had to it a certain amount of innocence we have yet to see from these characters, something I frankly couldn’t get enough of. There’s just the right amount of flirtation and innocence between the characters as they begin to realize their feelings for one another.

“You’re such an ass,” I call out after him. “I don’t like that you were looking. At all.” The butterflies in my stomach reveal differently, though.

But of course, it wouldn’t be written by Jessica Sorensen if it didn’t leave you in tears. This is no exception. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a sobbing mess by the end. Really, I needed to continue to the next book to remind myself that there’s more! It’s not over yet!

Making readers cry must be a sort of sadistic pleasure of Mrs. Sorensen, because so does it so gosh darn well and in every novel (or maybe it says something of me as a reader since I keep coming back for more). Also, she does it perfectly and I wouldn’t love reading her work as much as I do if it didn’t elicit such strong emotion andI didn’t get so connected to the main characters.

All in all, you will absolutely not be disappointed in this prequel. It is lovely and perfect and heartbreaking all at once. If you’ve enjoyed the rest of the series, you must pick this one up… if you haven’t gotten around to it yet–well, what are you waiting for? Go! Now! Start the series and fall in love in the same way I did.

The Prelude of Ella and Micha is set around a year before the start of The Secret of Ella and Micha but includes flashbacks throughout Ella and Micha's childhood and teenage years. They grew up together and have been best friends for as long as they can remember but although they are crazy about each other Ella is too scared to take the next step and Micha doesn't want to scare her off by pushing her. They have spent years dreaming of the day they'll both be 18 and can leave their home town behind them and make a fresh start somewhere far away, the plan has always been to leave together but after one terrible night things might be quite so simple after all.

Having already read the next few books in this series I had a pretty good idea about what would happen in this novella and if I'm honest I was a little nervous about reading it because I wasn't sure there would be enough new information to hold my interest. However I needn't have worried because knowing what was going to happen just made the story even more bitter sweet and heartbreaking.

I'm not going to go into details of the plot because I don't want to spoil the story for anyone who is new to the series but I do think that even if you haven't read any of the books you'll be able to enjoy this prequel and at such a bargain price it's probably a great way to try the series and meet the characters. I absolutely love Jessica Sorensen's writing, she creates incredibly realistic characters who are damaged but not beyond repair and she is brilliant at writing sexual tension between her leads and giving readers a romance that they can become invested in. This is one of my favourite new adult series and definitely one I'd happily recommend.

Grazie!

Having read all of the Ella and Micha books, I was curious to read this prelude to the intense relationship that I have come to know from them. This was a 3.5 star read from me and a definite must if you have read the other books in the series. The reader is brought into the thoughts of both Ella and Micha before they ever became a couple, showing how they had a strong friendship that turned into something more as they got older, something that they both tried to deny for what seemed like a long time. You saw the struggle that Ella had with her family from early on due to her mother's mental illness, something that the reader only received the aftermath of in the beginning books. It helped to give me a better understanding of her life with a mother who had bipolar disorder, a father who was a drunk and a brother who was clearly absent. To see how much Micha loved and protected Ella was heartwarming; even before that love took a romantic turn. All he wanted to do was protect her and make her smile. Even though I already knew that Ella and Micha are together, I found myself rooting for them to admit their feelings for each other while reading this novella. I cannot wait to get my hand on the next Ella and Micha book! I highly recommend all of the books from this series!

The Prelude of Ella and Micha is what it says, the prelude to The Secret of Ella and Micha.

You can read this before or after. I read it after the series, because Jessica released this after everyone read the first two.

But, you should read it before you start The Secret of Ella and Micha.

The reason being is because it shows Ella and Micha when they were 14 years old to 17 years old up until Ella leaves Micha for college.

I already knew most of the events except for some parts. I liked seeing how they first started.

It was painfully obvious how much Micha loves Ella and how she doesn't see that. Micha is my first and best book boyfriend from Jessica's stories.

He is my first love.

Well, dang. After reading the last novella in this series I read the series featuring their kids. Then I read this prequel. So naturally my bass-ackwards self is going to read the whole series again. I do that. A writer introduces something years after I read the originals but I get immersed into the world again. I can't just have a taste even if the series wasn't a fave. I become invested. So thanks a freaking lot. Here's to reading 4.5 books I've already read.

I looked back at my list of books read this year thus far and nearly 50% are re-reads. Jiminy.

We know what happens from reading The Secret, but how does that not stop me from crying all over again? This book starts when Ella and Micha are little kids then skips years to show important moments in their lives. Really cute moments, and really heartbreaking ones. I grew closer to Micha in this book, and wanted to slap some sense into Ella.
