When Aurora Silvermoon inherits her auntie's cottage in the cozy village of Faunwood, she's thrilled. But when she and her talking cat familiar, Harrison, arrive in early spring, it's a different story. The paint is peeling, the veranda is about to fall clean off, and there are literal holes in the roof. The cottage needs a lot of work before she can call it a home.
Enter Alden Stonewood, the grumpy village carpenter. Though he agrees to help Aurora fix up her cottage, he has no intention of catching feelings for the little green-haired witch. But every time she flashes him a freckled smile or hands him a cup of steaming lavender tea, his frozen heart melts a little more, and he's not so sure he'll be able to resist her.

I am a bit confused but more importantly I am bored, unfortunately. I did go in expecting a cosy, low stakes read but more of a plot would have been appreciated, besides “sunshine witch encounters grumpy carpenter”.
1.5 stars rounded up for cosiness.
I received an ARC of this book (thanks!) and these are my own opinions.
I think the author wrote a first draft and was like, "good enough." It was a good idea, but the execution was flawed, poorly paced, and lacking in detail. There are barely any side characters, and the world building is virtually nonexistent
The Witch’s Cottage: A Cozy Witch Romance is the first book I’ve reviewed by Emberley Wyndham, and what a great book it is! It’s everything I hoped and more.
Harrison the rabbit is very cute and has a lot to say. Aurora Silvermoon has inherited a run down cottage from her auntie. She has a lot that she needs to do to get the place in shape, and so the last thing she needs is for the carpenter to be grumpy.
How will she and Alden get along? The town of Wysteria and its inhabitants and buildings are quirky. I immediately felt curious and welcome (despite Alden). I was determined to enjoy the story and find out where it went.
The attention to detail is immediately excellent and that’s really impressive in itself. The story is tight and entertaining. It’s only 125 pages but there’s so much in here: mystery, intrigue and more.
I picked this as a pre-Halloween book, and it’s perfect for then or any time of year. It’s unique.
Thanks to Emberly Wyndham

4.75/5 ⭐ Super cozy romance with a splash of magic and a dash of delicious spice. The introduction of a new character towards the end of the book felt a little forced and as a set up for the next, but that's just a minor thing that didn't take away from my enjoyment of this comfy novella. Thanks to BookSirens for an ARC for my honest thoughts.
Just what I needed: a brain off read to just sit in a cozy little cottage and garden to chill 🙂↕️
Short and easy to read, I binged it in a single morning. Charming and whimsical main character. Lovely writing with lots of imagery. Literally no plot, just vibes. 💚
It follows Aurora and Alden. Aurora is a young witch who inherited a cottage from her aunty and Alden is the town’s repairman who Aurora hires to help her repair the cottage.
As a couple, these two are adorable! I loved the vibes, it indeed reminded me of stardew valley, but with witches and a talking cat. Bonus points for Harrison, because I love him!
Two main reasons why I did not give this novella full 5 stars: 1) I think Alden deserves Aurora all to himself. The introduction of the mystery man has put a kink in how perfect these two fit together, and I feel bad that Alden may have competition in future books in this series. 2) After Aurora and Alden started dating, the story felt slower to me, maybe because the main conflict of will they/won’t they was gone. The vibes alone were not enough to hold my attention at times.

The Witch’s Cottage is the first book in a novella-length series following Aurora Silvermoon, a Witch who returns to Faunwood to live in the cottage she inherited from her aunt and pursue her goal of opening her own bakery. Here, she meets Alden, the village’s carpenter with a grumpy and cold exterior that she quickly melts with her sunny personality and begins a relationship with. While this was short, I still think it was good. The romance between Aurora and Alden while it moved a bit too quick, was still sweet. However, I think Wyndham could have spent more time developing the characters' personalities and expanding more on some of the issues they face, like Aurora’s experience with grief and connection to magic or Alden’s experience with loneliness and relationship with his sister.
Similarly, I think the spicy scenes in this book were at odds with the otherwise cozy vibes of the story, and the sweet cover with a bunny on it is a bit misleading regarding the adult content featured in it. I accept responsibility for this as I probably should have looked more closely at the content warnings before picking this up. However, I still feel like it was jarring and didn’t fit in with the overall vibe of the book and that the author should have used that time to develop the characters and their relationship more than just having spicy scenes that were rather unnecessary. There is also a bit of weirdness in some of the later chapters when, seemingly, a secondary love interest is introduced for Aurora despite her established relationship and commitment to Alden.
Because of this, I don’t think I will continue this series as it seems like in the second book, this character is added into their relationship, and that seems to be how the series will continue by adding a new love interest per book. As per the author’s profile it seems like there are four books so far, meaning four love interest and given that the page count hasn’t increased a lot but the amount of love interests has, I don’t really think the shorter novella length format is suited for exploring the complexities I think are necessary for writing convincing romantic relationships involving multiple partners. However, if you are a fan of this trope and are looking for a shorter series with this trope and cozy vibes, this book series may work better for you.
I enjoyed the set up of the book, a cottage, a witch and a cat make a cozy, warm and inviting read.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
However I found the way their relationship moved too fast. They made a cute couple but I’d have preferred to have more of a build up to their relationship. I think I will get to like this series more after reading the next book.
The Witch's Cottage by Emberly Wyndham is a warm, cottagecore romance that is like walking straight into a Studio Ghibli movie with a sprinkle of Stardew Valley magic. The tale starts with Aurora Silvermoon, a sunny and airy witch, inheriting her aunt's cottage in the charming village of Faunwood. With her chatty cat familiar, Harrison, by her side, she fantasizes about a warm new existence only to find that the cottage is in need of major repairs.
Enter Alden Stonewood, village carpenter and curmudgeon. Reluctant at first, Alden agrees to restore the cottage, thinking he'll keep his distance. But as he works beside Aurora sipping lavender tea, sharing tentative smiles, and seeing her light ignite the cottage his hard-won heart starts to thaw. Their chemistry crackles with iconic grumpy-meets-sunshine mojo, tempered with warm humor and just a hint of heat to make the love pop.
The author's narration is warm and soothing, full of springtime sensations, Ostara celebration hugs, and low-stakes escapism. It's a romance that celebrates healing, new beginnings, and homecoming; not just somewhere, but in someone.
Delightful, enchanting, and tenderly romantic, The Witch's Cottage is the ultimate feel-good read for witches and romance lovers alike and fans of cozy, heart-healing stories.
Thank you to Emberly Wyndham and Book Sirens for the ARC copy of The Witch's Cottage.
This book follows Aurora, a witch with green hair, as she fixes up her inherited cottage from her recently deceased auntie. She realized quickly that it's going to be a job bigger than one she could handle alone. She enlists the help of a reluctant Alden. He's grumpy, recluse, and just wants to get the job and be done. But little by little, Aurora softens his heart. This story includes some steamy spice, a feel-good grumpy/sunshine romance, and a HEA. I really enjoyed this book, it's short and good. It's short, so the storyline moves quickly, it's supposed to. If you're looking for a short Cozy romance, I recommend this one. Spice level 🌶🌶/5
You should read if you like ❤️ - Cozy romance w/ spice - Cottagecore vibes - Grumpy x Sunshine - Witch, familiars, a little magic (spells) - Small town
The whole vibe is like cottagecore romantasy, and I am so here for it!! It has all the things I love, a cottage in the woods ready to be fixed up, an adorable grumpy sunshine relationship, a talking cat, baking… the list goes on and on! If you’re looking for something whimsical and sweet and cozy, this one is for you!
I will say - there is spice in this and I can’t believe I’m saying it… but I personally don’t feel this book needed it. The language for those moments was quite full on and didn’t really fit the vibe for me (words like C and P), I think in this sort of setting a more sweet lovemaking or even FTB would have been more appropriate.
Still, I thoroughly enjoyed it and I’m super curious to see where the next books lead!
Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher/author for the opportunity to read this book.
I really enjoyed "The Witch's Cottage" and am excited to continue the Season of the Witch series. The book is a cozy, quick read full of witchy vibe and romance, Witch just the right pinch of spice.Aurora is the cheery, sweet Green/Kitchen witch that I aspire to. And Alden is a big, cuddly, gruff cinnamon roll of a MMC.
"The Witch's Cottage" is not a long, complicated story with a lot of world building and plot ( which I do love as well). But, it is a sweet, simple love story perfect for a cozy afternoon or evening.
This was a charming little novella, which I believe is book one of a bigger story. The novella itself was able to create a nice and atmospheric environment, although I was a little lost in terms of when this story was supposed to have taken place. It seems to be set in the past, but other parts of it make it feel like a small village in more modern times. There really was no climax to this book, but if you want something sweet and lighthearted, this has got that in spades.

Rating: ⭐⭐ (2/5)
Season of the Witch offers cozy, cottagecore vibes with a dash of magic and romance, perfect for readers who enjoy grumpy x sunshine dynamics and a touch of springtime charm. The story follows Aurora Silvermoon, a green-haired witch who inherits a rundown cottage in the quaint village of Faunwood, and Alden Stonewood, the grumpy local carpenter with a hidden soft side. As Alden helps Aurora bring her cottage back to life, their growing connection begins to thaw his guarded heart.
While the book promises a mix of Studio Ghibli aesthetics and Stardew Valley vibes, I found it fell a bit short on delivering a fully immersive experience. Due to its shorter length, the story sometimes feels rushed, leaving out key moments that would have deepened the characters’ connection and made their romance more satisfying. The cozy tropes are definitely there, but the fast pace made it hard to settle into the story and get lost in the setting and character development.
That said, if you’re looking for a quick, light-hearted read that delivers all the cottagecore witchy vibes, Season of the Witch could be a fun pick. It’s low-stakes, with a guaranteed HEA, making it a no-stress read for cozy romance fans.
Final Thoughts: While it didn’t fully resonate with me, this novella could still be enjoyable for those who want a short, spicy escape with a hint of magic and all the familiar tropes.
I received this book as an ARC from Book Sirens. All opinions are my own.
This book is witchy and cozy. It's very short and takes less than half a day to read. I gave it 4 stars, because it felt like the first half of a really good book. The ending was kind of abrupt. It didn't feel finished.
If you are looking for short, sweet, spicy, feel-good, happiness, then read this book!
A charmingly cozy romantasy perfect for spring. With soft spells, lemon-sweet vibes, and a classic grumpy sunshine pairing, The Witch’s Cottage is a low-stakes escape into witchy comfort. While I craved more development from Aurora and Alden, this short novel still casts a gentle spell of warmth and whimsy.
Wish I'd known this was a serial novella as I always think these move way too fast but was an enjoyable read. I don't think I'll continue, though. The spice level was a bit jarring against the cozy fantasy vibe. Others will like that, though!
This is exactly what is says it is.. a cozy witch romance. It totally delievered and i enjoyed it so much. It was a quick read, but with some lovely character development. The only thing that kind of threw me was a character that was introduced towards the very end.. felt kind of off. But maybe that will be clarified in the next book. Either way i will be reading the next books.

Nice read, 100% cottagecore 🌿 Because of my reading slump, it took me some time to finish it, but I really enjoyed it! There are some aspects I wish were more detailed. You mainly see the two characters Aurora and Alden, I wish the other characters were more developed! But as the book is only 100 pages, that makes sense
One thing I absolutely LOVED is how detailed and poetic the writing is. Well, the spicy scenes weren’t really poetic (but hot af 🔥)
I love how every detail is described, it makes you feel like you’re in the story ✨
Oh and the end? Made me want to read the next one 🤭
I think Aurora is one of the best FMCs I have come across in a long time. She is strong, independent yet loving and a bit insecure. Alden is her other half and she helps him open up and accept her love. Harrison is such a feisty adorable cat ever. This book was the cutest love story without all the angst and danger some others have. It was a joy to read. I highly recommend this book to all paranormal romance readers.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book wasn’t like bad. I’m sure many people would really enjoy it. But the insta love was just not for me. I like more a slow burn pining and these guys were just instantly into one another. Not my vibe
This book? It’s basically the literary equivalent of a warm hug with a side of “get a room!” 🤣 You’ve got Aurora, a sunshine witch who probably smells like lavender and optimism, trying to fix up a house that’s more hole than home. And then there’s Alden, the grumpy carpenter who clearly didn’t get the memo about smiling, but secretly has a heart of gold (and probably a six-pack, just sayin’). Watching these two go from grunts and side-eyes to… well, let’s just say “kisses for bread” is a very effective negotiation tactic. Plus, Aurora’s cat, Harrison, is the ultimate spirit animal for anyone who judges silently from the sidelines. If you love a slow-burn romance where the tension is thicker than Alden’s beard, and a house gets fixed while hearts get mended, then grab this one! It’s pure, cozy, magical fun. 😉

🍃 The Witch’s Cottage was an enchanting little escape into a cozy, witchy world, and while it was shorter than I’d expected, I really loved its heartwarming vibes! Emberly Wyndham introduces us to Aurora Silvermoon, a green-haired, sunshiney witch who inherits her auntie’s cottage in the quaint village of Faunwood. But instead of the charming retreat she imagined, Aurora finds herself with a fixer-upper—a cottage that’s practically falling apart! Enter Alden Stonewood, the grumpy carpenter who, despite his rough exterior, soon reveals a heart of gold. Their interactions brought so much warmth, with her cheerful, sunny personality slowly thawing his guarded heart, and the cozy springtime vibes were absolutely dreamy. 🌸🛠️
💫 I went in expecting a slow-burn romance, but it was more of an insta-lust situation with the romance blossoming a bit quicker than I expected. That said, I couldn’t resist the grumpy carpenter x sunshine witch dynamic—Aurora and Alden had some cute moments that made me smile. I do wish the ending had been a little more drawn out; it felt a touch rushed, and I found myself with a few lingering questions about where they’d go from here. But despite this, the story was an adorable escape, perfect for a quick, cozy read!
🐱 Harrison, Aurora’s talking cat familiar, stole the show for me! I love a story with a sassy animal sidekick, and Harrison was just so full of personality—he added such a fun touch to each scene. And Alden… sigh, he was such a lovable, wounded cinnamon roll of a hero. I would’ve loved more backstory or details about him because he was such a delightful character. The scenes with him and Aurora, especially as they shared lavender tea in her kitchen or worked together on the cottage, were just so heart-meltingly cozy. ☕🛋️

A huge thank you to Emberly Wyndham and Book Sirens for the ARC opportunity! This book was like a warm cup of tea with a dash of spring magic. I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more of her cozy witch romances in this adorable series!
The moment I saw cottagecore and Stardew Valley vibes in the description, I knew I had to read it. This novella is cozy with a bit of spice.
The Witch's Cottage is a dual POV romance following Aurora and Alden. Aurora moves to the small town of Faunwood into her aunt's old cottage, Brookside, with her feline companion, Harrison. The cottage hasn't been habitable in quite some time. After speaking with a merchant in town, she finds a carpenter, Alden, to help her with the repairs. Alden would rather be doing anything but helping Aurora repair her cottage. However, he agrees to do so anyway to keep his sister happy.
I immediately felt the Stardew Valley vibes as Aurora and Harrison arrived in Faunwood. Honestly, in my next playthrough, I might create Aurora with her vibrant green hair and green eyes and name my farm Brookside.
Aurora's cat, Harrison, was a great side character. He could speak, but only to Aurora, which I thought was great because Alden couldn't tell whether he was judging him or not, and he definitely was... at first. Both Harrison and Alden were more introverted than Aurora.
I love a good grumpy x sunshine trope, and this story delivered. Alden was a grumpy cinnamon roll who had been hurt in the past, and Aurora was a ray of sunshine. No matter how rude Alden seemed, she was still kind. I thought it was cute how she wrote to her sister complaining that he kept declining her offers of tea and baked goods.
Thank you, Emberly Wyndham and Booksprout, for the eARC of The Witch's Cottage in exchange for my honest review.

Perfect, short, cozy read! Thank you to BookSirens and Emberly Wyndham for a free ARC in exchange for my honest review!
The Plot: The story starts with Aurora Silvermoon and her feline familiar moving into her aunt's house that she inherited. It's a bit dilapidated, but that's nothing that the carpenter down the road, Alden Stonewood, can't fix. As more cottage improvements happen, Alden finds himself enjoying time with Aurora more and looks forward to working with her.
My thoughts: I wish it was longer! At first, I was really excited that it was a short and cozy read, but now that I'm done, I want more. Thank goodness this is part 1 of a 4 part series. I love a fixer-upper, low risk, low stress book. It is lovely to get transported to the serene woods and imagine the tiny cottage, the hot springs, the flowing river, and the garden. The only thing I wish was different about this book is more content around the fixes. More things that made it feel like a home instead of a house. It felt like it mainly focused on the romance in the second half.
Which I can't complain fully about either. With the book being as short as it is, the romance was paced perfectly. We all know I love a good grumpy x sunshine read.
TL/DR: You read the synopsis and now you want other’s opinions? OK. This is a quick read, small town romance with a little spice. It’s a grumpy/sunshine trope with a paranormal twist and i enjoyed it a lot. The fact that this is the first book in a series also makes me happy. Did I mention there is a slightly grumpy, very opinionated, talking cat? My advice, get the book.
So, I loved how witches in this world are distinguished for their elemental affinity by the color of their hair. The FMC, Aurora, has green hair and is therefore a kitchen witch and connected to the earth and environment. I believe the aunt whom she inherited the cottage from was also a kitchen witch. (I also feel like the cottage may have more secrets and crystals to reveal, but I could definitely be wrong).
Our MMC, Alden, is the grumpy village carpenter who is volunteered by his sister (who runs the village mercantile) to help her with the repairs she needs done. For free. That’s ok though, he ends up getting much more out of it than he thought he would, no matter how many times he would grunt and turn down her hospitality.
I would like to thank the author, Emberly Wyndham who I believe is also the publisher, and BookSirens for a copy of this book. My opinions are my own and my review is voluntarily given. As always, I wish you happy reading!
Big thanks to Booksprout and the author for a free ARC copy of this wonderful book!
This read is exactly what it promises to be: a quick and drama free read with low stakes. I low spice was incredibly well written without being overwhelming or cringey. The atmosphere is definitely cozy and inviting, I could have spent forever reading this. The short chapters were also a super plus. Although I read this in an afternoon, it's nice that I would have the ability to read the story in short spurts - like my thirty-minute lunch break, without worrying about stopping in the middle of an intense chapter.
Our leads, Aurora and Aldean, are nice to be around. Their headspaces are believable without being too demanding, I didn't have to make any leaps in logic to justify their actions. I think their romance is sweet and I genuinely did root for them.
I will pick this read up again and again, just so I can return to something sweet and cozy. Earning the first ever 5 star review I've ever given a book, I'll definitely be talking my book club into reading this after its official release!
This is the second book I have read by this author and not usually a book I would pick to read but I loved it. I don’t know what it is about a grumpy MMC that pulls me in but I love them because all you want to do is hug them to make them smile 😊. Alden was definitely a grump in the beginning and Aurora made him smile again.
This is a quick and easy read for the fall to curl up with a blanket. Also there was a little intrigue at the end with a new character who knows they might be explained in a future book. I would also like to meet her sister the Luna witch she seems like she could be fun. I gave this book 4.25 ⭐️ and 1.5 🌶️ the hot springs was a good touch. If you like a cozy cottage romance with spice and a cat that talks, this is the book for you.
If you have not read anything by this author this will be the perfect book to pick up but also check out her other stuff I can’t recommend it enough. Thank you Emberly and booksprout for the copy of this book.
