I love when an author gets creative…puts a new spin on an enemies to lovers troupe. Becca and Pyne grace the pages is this different gladiator story. They are two lost souls who find deep love for one another while navigating a baking competition. Strange? Yes, but it works to make a delightful read…smoking hot, full of suspense and action this book does not disappoint. Download and enjoy❤️❤️

I wish I could get over how ridiculous the premise of this was. The two characters I enjoyed, but the overall plot was just weird and seriously lacking. Normally I love unique sci-fi, but this wasn’t even feasible in the world the author created.

Pyne is on Planet Cryosyne for a gladiatorial bout to help earn money to support the Devil’s Playground. The spaceship is home to freed gladiator and human slaves and everyone contributes to earn the funds to keep the ship in food, fuel and supplies. Suddenly, Pyne finds himself not in a gladiator battle but in a baking battle. He’s stuck because he has no idea what he’s doing in the kitchen. Luckily he’s partnered with Becca who is a slave on Cryosyne and works in the kitchen so this just might work out.

Becca was kidnapped by aliens and is working in the kitchen of a resort on an alien planet. Suddenly, she’s pulled into a life-or-death iron-chef bake-off with her very freedom on the line. Her job is made harder by partnering her with not another chef, baker or even a kitchen worker: She’s got a gladiator.

Oh, and part of the competition is that the team pairs have to share living quarters too.
Just.
Great.

Somehow her kitchen skills and his gladiator physical skills which oddly, come into play bring them to the finals. Along the way they get to know each other beyond their superficial appearances. The awkwardness of sharing a room disappears as their admiration becomes more than a physical attraction. Pyne decides that win or lose, he can’t leave Becca behind and makes a deal to turn over his winnings to buy her freedom.

But, first, they must win – survive – first.

Pyne enters a gladiator competition. Upon arrival on the planet he discovers that it has been canceled and he is saddled with a human woman in the baking contest from hell. The “celebrity” host is a vindictive bitch who more or less blackmails him, stating the woman, a slave,* will be freed if they win. He agrees to participate.

Not only will they have to bake complicated creations but have to survive perilous physical tests. His gladiator skills help them to complete each challenge while Becca excels with the culinary aspects. The paired contestants also share a room with one bed. The forced proximity leads to intimacy. Later the host declares that the couples will be split up and assigned different partners.

Becca is paired with a misogynistic reptilian alien who makes overt sexual innuendos. Pyne has to deal with an oversexed feline type of female. As the host’s demands become more extreme he finally stands his ground and refuses to go along with them. She will meet his ultimatum if he wins a "to the death" battle with another contestant.

*Both Pyne and Becca had been kidnapped and made slaves but there is never any explanation as to who was the perpetrator. Was it the same culprit in both instances? I would have liked a bit of background.

Edit to add: I highly recommend reading the bonus chapter at BookFunnel if for no other reason than to view the illustrations. Make sure you use a reader that has color capabilities. They’re beautiful.

Think of a cross between the Done To One series combined with The Great British Bake-Off Holiday edition!💞🔥
Payne is on the Devil's Playground getting ready for his Cestus match but it turns into him going alone as the crew goes elsewhere. Wouldn't you know it, things never go as planned. He's informed that he won't be in the ring but paired up in a kitchen.
Becca has been thrown into something she didn't expect. And that's saying something since she was abducted from Earth a year ago. She cooks for her new master in his hotel because he found that she was good at it.
When she's paired with a big green warrior, they are informed that they will compete in the Cosmic Confections Competition. A bake-off where it's cook and survive. Encouraged to make an alliance with the big male in order to survive, she finds that not only is he a good looking male but he's also friendly, funny and protective.
If they win, Pyne can rescue the beautiful human and take her out of captivity because to him, she's the real prize.
I wish this was just the beginning of another series instead of a holiday release because the hostess would make a great villain. (hint, hint)
The ending wasn't of a perfect life but of a perfectly sweet love and future.
After reading Pyne I'll never look at a Christmas tree the same way again.😉

The idea of being kidnapped and forced to participate in an intergalactic bake-off is totally bonkers. AND I LOVE IT. Seriously, that alone had me and then we have Pyne who is a freed gladiator with no baking experience who's strongarmed into competing. I just...like this whole dang thing.

So. Becca is an abducted human who isn't given much choice in being part of the of this unhinged bake-off that is a hybrid reality baking show and dangerous gladiator game. I mean, the immunity challenges are rough enough to knock people out of the competition permanently. Which makes things a little difficult for Becca since she is a baker, not a fighter.

Fortunately, she's teamed up with Pyne, a freed gladiator who can carry her (sometimes literally) through the challenges. They just have to figure out how to work together. As it turns out, working together means getting close and it doesn't take long before THINGS HAPPEN with all that togetherness.

A group of competitive bakers, an (overly) ambitious host, some steamy kisses, a former gladiator who will do whatever it takes to help his lady win her freedom, and a lady who was resigned to her fate until one cocky former gladiator crossed her path. *thumbs up*

This was such an unusual turn of events for this gladiator. Instead of competing as a gladiator, he is forcibly coerced into participating in a baking reality show.
As you can imagine someone as big and burly as Pyne is, he's all fingers and thumbs.

Also forced into this baking competition is a human female slave, Becca. For one of them, the prospects of financial rewards are enticing. The other freedom.

Of course, nothing ever goes as predicted, but through sheer determination, these two people learn how to adapt in order to fulfill the ultimate goal.

Pyne and Becca embark on an emotional journey that is filled with love, compassion, and empathy. Across the vastness of the galaxy, they found each other.

This is an amazing page turner that leaves you fighting for these two awesome characters. Of course, at the back of my mind, I kept waiting for the evilness to show its wicked head.

This is a fun sci-fi holiday romance! It is part of the multi-author Rescued by the Alien series of holiday standalones.

Human FMC Becca is a slave who works in the kitchens of a hotel. When a strange alien competition falls short of a pair of competitors, she’s suddenly thrust into the contest with alien MMC gladiator Pyne as her teammate. Of course, he’s gorgeous and sweet, and there’s only one bed.

This was a really fun read! I don’t think I’ve ever come across a plot quite like this before, especially with the sci-fi slave/gladiator twist. There were some action-filled moments along with lots of cute Christmasy baking elements. I also really adored the chemistry between the MCs.

I’ve enjoyed reading Alana Khan’s Christmasy romances this holiday season. I’m looking forward to reading her take on a few other holidays in the Arixxia Fields series next.

I absolutely loved this. Who knew that out there in the cosmos there was a Great British Bake Off that resulted in competing literally to the death! Pyne was planning on a fight of a very different nature with swords and shields as opposed to whisks and baking parchment yet he cannot bring himself to be sorry about it, not when he has been partnered with Becca. Becca is still trying to get over being abducted from Earth and while a cooking competition might seem familiar, this one is played to a whole other level. Thankfully she has a huge green alien male to help her.

Alana is one of my favourite authors and I just love how she can capture you with her writing. You pick up the book and you just can't put it down until you have read it all! The characters and dialogue are brilliant, add in the already known entity of the Devil's Playground and you just cannot go wrong.

I really enjoyed the story! Our main character (MMC) is such a charming guy. I found him so likable, and it got me thinking about how his charm could actually help him win the baking contest. It's a fun image to picture a gladiator trying his hand at baking—does he have what it takes to succeed?

On top of that, he's funny, kind, and the ultimate gentleman! It's no wonder the female lead (FMC) ends up falling for him.

The author did a fantastic job of keeping me on the edge of my seat, constantly throwing challenges at our main characters. But they really showed their strength in overcoming each obstacle. In the end, we get a sweet happy ending for the couple, and I couldn't be happier! Who would have thought he'd find his soulmate while competing in a baking contest? What a delightful twist!

An Ooey Gooey Cinnamon Roll Hero!

Pyne is part of the Rescued by the Alien Holiday series which is a multi author collection. And, they are all some of my favorite sci-fi authors!

Pyne is also related to Alana Khan’s Galaxy Gladiators Alien Abduction series, however it stands on its own with a festive HEA and you do not need to have read the series to enjoy this holiday indulgence that is an alien bake-off/gladiator themed extravaganza!

Pyne is a fun one with some adventurous challenges, sweet treats, a sexy gladiator who is a yummy morsel & baking virgin and a strong human slave who is a baking for her freedom, her life and her love! Then, throw in a few villains, some danger, a bit of deception, lots of cake, frosting and creativity and you have one heck of an alien tale that kicks some serious asteroids!

Excellent!

Another delightful book by Alana. Pyne is going to Cryosyne to compete in a gladiator tournament to help earn funds for the Devils Playground, the ship that rescued him and gave him his freedom. But when he gets there, he is met by armed guards and escorted to a different competition, a Bake-off. He doesn’t even know what that is! Fortunately, he is partnered with Becca, a human that was kidnapped from earth, who is a baker. If they win Pyne gets his money and Becca gets her freedom. Pretty good incentive to go all out!
But of course, it’s not really a fair competition and when the organizer seems to have it in for Becca and Pyne, things get a little dicey! A great story, well written, with lots of excitement and drama

Pyne is such a great read! I loved both Becca and Pyne! Becca had been abducted from Earth and is a slave in a hotel kitchen. She finds herself thrown into an Intergalactic Baking Show with Pyne as her partner. Pyne has come to the planet to compete in a Gladiator Competition only to find himself forced in to the baking Competition. Before long our main characters are falling hard for each other. This is an action packed incredibly well written romance. The story is engrossing, not releasing my attention until the very end. Alana Khan is an amazing writer whose characters and storylines are well crafted, well thought out and always worth my limited reading time.

This is a fun beginning to a new multi-author series and this author sure put a new spin on an enemies to lovers vibe. Becca and Pyne are paired up to compete in a baking competition but he's a gladiator and has the size, and muscles, to back up his role. She's a slave but has skills in the kitchen to help mentor him. To think of him handling delicate pastry or cake decorations, though, was hilarious for me ;) These two lost souls found love together while navigating the competition and it's dangers. There is definitely action, suspense, drama, danger and hot romance when you dive into this one. It sets a fab tone for the series and I cannot wait to read the rest of them. So fun!

Both Becca and Pyne are be partners in an alien bake off. It's more dangerous than they both thought. With money and her freedom involved, Becca is going to do her best for that freedom. Pyne, a gladiator, is forced to be her partner although he knows nothing about baking. Pyne is promised a lot of money. Becca teaches him her special baking techniques before he has to fight to the death with another competitor. As they work together and win challenges, their attraction to each other grows. Now Pyne is also fighting for Becca's freedom. This story has danger, adventure, steamy romance and a happy ending.

A slave and a gladiator are forced into participating in a galactic bake off. Not exactly the pairing you’d expect. And to be honest it’s rather hard to picture a 7 foot all muscle male dealing with delicate, intricate candied decorations to top off the cakes. There’s a strong element of danger that’s part of the elimination that will have your heart pounding. There’s even a villain, (you’ll love to hate) making things worse for the contestants. An absolutely entertaining delightful (Christmas, sort of) story.

The Cosmic Confections Competition: sounds safe and fun, right? Not for Becca, Pyne or any of the other contestants. Becca, a slave cooking for her owner, is now forced into this competition. Her partner was just shoved into the room by 8 gun carrying guards and he's pissed. They have to work together to survive because this is not just a baking competition.
Galactic Love Muffins Becca and Pyne plan to win.
There is humor: Becca uses alliterative nicknames for Pyne. The moderator calls Becca by anything but her name.
There is danger, the person running the competition is awful, hopes and dreams are lost, old friends show up, plus there is romance and steam. Alana gathers all these great ingredients and whips up an amazing tale.

Alien Baking – Not for Beginners !! . . .

Pyne, a gladiator, surprisingly finds himself forced into a baking reality show, not the form of competition he would have expected. His partner in the death match will be Becca, a kidnapped human female slave who is offered her freedom if she wins. The challenges they must overcome are lethal. And as they grow closer, their attraction may give them a stronger reason to fight for their survival. Will they have a future together after this? Or will they lose everything if they fail?

I love Alana Khan’s books, and Pyne , part of the Sci-fi Holiday Tail series, is a wonderful holiday addition. Pyne is on the way to a gladiator contest he hopes to win when he is forced to join a baking competition and matched to human Becca, a slave. He’s in it for the money. She’s in it for the chance for freedom. Between baking challenges there are deadly events. Lots of action, and there’s a beautiful HEA!

All the right ingredients

First i love to bake and watch shows about it.
Second the couples shared similar background storylines but with differences to make them understand and empathize with each other.
The way it unfolded was great.
Hands down favorite part was one of my top 5 epilogues. Finally an author gave a glimpse in a couples future and did not leave us thinking "i doubt they lasted a few years."

What would you do if you joined what you thought was a Gladiator Battle competition for a huge purse of money, but ended up in a baking show?? And what if you were the chef that was stuck with this beefcake of a gladiator? You would both be thankful for the other. Because this isn't just any battle.. it will take both baking and gladiator skills to get out alive. With love and laughs along the way to the epic crazy contest run at the end of it. A great ride!

A bake off competition, what could go wrong. But what if (as a slave) you are forced to compete, your partner has zero baking skills and the challenges become increasingly dangerous (where elimination can be permanent). Elements of fear, danger, drama, humor, happiness and the potential for love combine to make a compelling read.

I enjoyed that this book gave us a quick return to the crew of the Devil's Playground with characters I've loved in previous works from this author. Pyne and Becca were adorable with each other and Alana Khan's trope of the dumb but popular alien announcer is always funny. You will not regret picking up this fun little romance between our bakers and as always, a great HEA

Becca and Pyne
I love this author and her Alien books, for a while now She has been writing more Monster books so when I Saw this One I was super happy and I was not dissapointed! I just loved to see the Devil's playground again and Pyne is amazing. Becca is just trying to survive and get her freedom and then Pyne happenes. I just loved this alien bake off. I'm so in christmas mood.

This is such a great holiday story. Poor Pyne thinks he's going to fight a gladiator match but ends up forced into a survival cooking contest. He is paired with a slave who is a baker. Now they must work together to survive the contest and obtain her freedom. I highly recommend you read this book. Check out the authors other gladiator books and the other books in this particular holiday series.

The premise was interesting, but I didn't enjoy the author's writing style. The writing felt awkward and too flowery. At times the MCs would sum up their feelings in statements and the MMC just suddenly up and decided that he felt something for the FMC. There should have been a chapter from the MMC's POV to make his conviction seem more realistic.

A Baker and a Gladiator

What a great plotline with a cute/meet I've never read before. She's a baker and he's a gladiator who was tricked into being partners in a baking competition. After a disastrous start, they started to work together and make some wonderfully sweet and confectionary creations. A nice romantic holiday read with a HEA.

Pyne

Interesting.... Each of the books in this series are about different Aliens and how they meet their mates. It's amazing how the mind of the author works to bring the characters to such a realistic version. As a true believer in Aliens, I find that the different versions of them is fascinating. Could this author and others, that write this genre, be one of them????

What a fun, sweet, romance with some danger and spice thrown in to keep you turning pages! I thoroughly enjoyed Pyne and Becca’s baking competition challenges, and their dance around each other. There was just the right mix of spice and danger from other competitors and the evil host. Loved this book!
