Green Valley Shifters #2
The Tiger Next Door
Tiger shifter and businessman, Shaun always wanted to spend more time with the child his ex-wife took away from him -- but he wasn't expecting her to abandon five-year old Trevor and force Shaun to move to the tiny town of Green Valley.
It’s bad enough that Shaun doesn’t know the first thing about being a father -- now suddenly he’s the father of an unpredictable shifter child.
Hawk shifter and preschool teacher, Andrea knows better than to fall for Trevor’s father -- no matter how good he looks with a colander on his head. But the electricity between them is impossible to resist, and when the lights in his house go out, the sparks that fly aren’t only in the fuse box.
Abandoned by his mother, all that Trevor has ever asked for is love and stability, and Shaun is determined to give that to him at any cost.
Even if it means denying that the hot next door neighbor is his destined mate.
What’s more stubborn -- fate, or a five-year-old?

This book was a marked improvement over 'Dancing Bearfoot.' It still wasn't great though.
We still have a lot of girl hate, slut-shaming, and the denigrating of femininity "performed wrong" that feminists are usually guilty of. I'd put money on it that Zoe Chant is a feminist. This is not true across the board for ALL feminists. But a good deal of feminists are the worse fucking misogynists I've ever met. They're just really sneaky about it.
In Chant's stories, we see the Madonna-Whore complex struggled with right there on the page. Women can be horny, but not TOO desperate. God forbid a woman make the first move. A woman should always look good on accident. Any woman who likes expensive clothes or accessories is to be laughed at. Any woman who puts on "too much" makeup is a thirsty old clown.
Just look at the way the sexually-assertive conventionally feminine women are described in Chant's novel's. On page 38, "He realized belatedly that there was a woman trying to make conversation with him, batting mascara-crusted eyelashes at him."
Chant literally out here calling sexually-assertive feminine women crusty.
It's not as bad in this book as it was in 'Dancing Bearfoot,' where we got to see flirtatious women called "vultures" and Harriet was supposed to be the villain, even though she did literally nothing wrong.
At least in this book, Harriet finally comes across as the villain we're supposed to see her as. She abandons her son. It doesn't get more villainous than that.
Then again, er...this is awkward but....didn't Shaun do exactly the same thing?
The choice to use a deadbeat dad in a single dad romance is a strange one. The guy's responsibility and nurturing is the appeal of this subgenre.
But Shaun is not responsible or nurturing. Like every other deadbeat dad, he blames the fact that he hasn't seen his own kid in years on his "bitch ex-wife." My dude, STFU. If you wanted to, you would have.
This was the factor that made Shaun absolutely irredeemable in my eyes. I never grew to like him over the course of the entire book.
He used his ex-wife as an excuse to not be a father. Throw the whole fucking man away.
And even after he becomes the sole caretaker of his young son, he still really fucking sucks as a father. A good parent does not denigrate their child's mother in front of them. He literally says to his preschool-aged child, "Mommy did a lot of things I don't agree with." Having one parent openly disparage the other is the sort of thing that really fucks a kid up. Shaun is a shit father. I didn't like anything about him.
Now, there were a few redeeming things about this book. I like Andrea a lot (just wish she had better taste in men.) I liked all of the sweet interactions between Andrea and Trevor.
All the chaos at Patricia's wedding was really fun, but I liked how it all mostly ended up resolved. Trevor's little spat with Clara was adorable. I'd actually kind of die for a spin-off years in the future where Trevor and Clara end up as a couple. That would be super sweet.
As always, Chant's stories are cute and quirky and full of humor.
She's just always gotta throw in some problematic shit to spoil all the fun.

My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!!!
***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! Yes, I received a review copy of this book, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I bought my own copy as I own most of Zoe’s books because she is an author that is one of my favorites!
The cover is a work of art!
This is the 2nd book in the series, and it is about Andrea who works at the preschool from book 1. Shaun has not had the opportunity to be in his son Trevor’s life, but now he is a full time single dad, and he is trying to figure things out. As a single parent, I connect with the sentiment of this book and giving everything to your son. This world is unique because the shifters don’t know who else is a shifter. This makes for interesting events in this book. It is another book that is a perfect mix, and I couldn’t put it down.
I highly recommend any shifter fan especially if you’ve ever read Zoe’s books and liked them because you should read them all! They are all unique adventures that I have loved to read!

Shaun is a tiger shifter and successful businessman who wanted more time with his son of whom his ex-wife retained custody but he's totally surprised when she brings five-year-old Trevor to him and walks away. Shaun moves to Green Valley with the intent of settling things and selling the house but his plans changed when he met Trevor's preschool teacher, Andrea, who happens to be his mate and a hawk shifter.
I really enjoyed this book which was well-written with great characters who are believable. I highly recommend both the book and the series. I love the way Zoe addresses single parenting and dating.

Wonderful addition to the Green Valley Shifters, and completely enjoyable as a standalone. Shaun and Andrea connect immediately with each other and the reader. Throw in a most adorable shifting preschooler and you’ve got a story that will warm your heart and other vital areas if you know what I mean! Come to Green Valley and enjoy the read.

I normally love this Authors books, but this one just rubbed me the wrong way. He made a promise to a child he’s spent zero time with to lie, use, hurt and generally walk all over the doormat that is his mate? And of course she let him, and then forgave him with zero consequences. Ugh!

The children in this series are seriously stealing my heart. I hope there are stories about them in the future as well. This was a great story of a dad coming into his child’s life at five years old. Trying to play catch-up can’t be easy. Thankfully he had a incredible mate to help him.

Fallen Hard!!!
Shaun Powell, a Tiger shifter who didn't know anything about being a father. Now he's one to a five-year-old boy named, Trevor who was an unpredictable shifter.
Andrea, a preschool teacher and a Hawk shifter knee better than to fall for her student, Trevor's father. There was an instant connection between them. But what was a woman to do when the man son didn't want her in their lives.
Shaun wanted to give his son the stability and love he needed after his mother abandoned him. He was ready to give it to him, no matter what even if it meant walking away from his fated mate, Andrea.
He and Trevor grew closer as father and son, the little boy went through so much in his young life that he didn't was to leave the town and its people who made him feel safe. Andrea and Trevor finally took things to the next level.
It was great to catch up with Patricia, Lee and Clara ( DANCING BEARFOOT ) and meeting new people. Can't wait for the next installment.
THE TIGER NEXT DOOR is the second standalone paranormal book in Zoe Chant's GREEN VALLEY SHIFTERS series. It was alluring and a must read. Two thumbs up!

This is a sweet story about a man, his son and the neighbor. The characters were mostly likable except for one. The kids were adorable and fun. Overall an easy read.

I was curious about the 4-5 ratings this author gets so I gave it a try. And... I didn't like it. The writing per se wasn't bad, it just felt flat and therefore boring. I don't know if that's because of the length of the chapters but, for me, it didn't contribute. Very short for my liking. Maybe that's why the characters ended as they began, no real development. The first chapter didn't help also, reading Shaun talking with such apathy about his son. Really even if you didn't have full custody you have the right to visits but no you couldn't make the effort. I didn't like him very much. But still, I continued... no great change there. He was worse with his "mate". Andrea wasn't that much better either. Immature people.April 22, 2020
I liked this one better than the first of the Green Valley Shifter stories (I've read 3 of the 4 out so far) but still not quite 4 full stars - I had a few quibbles with the leads that really kept it at 3+.
Here, we pick up with Andrea (h), Patricia's coworker from book 1, Dancing Bearfoot. The father of one of their preschoolers has moved into town to take custody of his son, moving in next door to Andrea. She's reluctant to get involved with Shaun (H), as a student's father, and he's more concerned about figuring out the whole Parenting Thing, giving his son more attention and stability than he's had so far. Though they recognize they're mates, will they ever be ready to step forward?
In the first book, we had Patricia angsting away over Lee's deceased wife and their relationship, and brooding over their miscommunication (which she kinda brought on herself). Here, we had characters that were a bit more developed, but there was still a fair amount of self-inflicted angst and miscommunication. Especially for shifters, who are by nature devoted to their mates (one of the consistent threads in the genre), to deny themselves that over a promise to a 5 year old (who's a shifter himself and will be able to understand all this too)? I just got a little tired of their self-imposed drama and sneaking around - that's really what kept it at 3+ and not 4.
Oh, and in general, there's not a lot of actual "shifting" in the Green Valley series. We see them each as their animals once, maybe twice, but it's not a significant part of the plot. In case you're looking for lots of magic in your SPN romance.
Alternating 3rd person POV. No cheating, no love triangle, no OW/OM drama. Sweet and simple and light. Quick too. A nice change of pace from some of the darker urban fantasies I've read recently. Just a little too much angst which could have been cleared up with a few heart-to-heart conversations with a 5 year old. HEA and no cliffhangers, though characters are introduced for future books.
Would I read more from this author? Definitely yes. She's one of my go-tos for fast (typically light and fun) SPN romances.
From this series? I already have read books 1-3 and am just waiting for 4 to go on sale.

The girl nest door is book two in the green valley shifters series. I really liked this story and devoured this story in one sitting. The writing style is easy to follow, the characters are likeable and the storyline is enjoyable. I found this story fast paced but there were times when it slowed a little. I liked Andrea. I liked that she didn’t moan once about anything. She worked two jobs just to survive/have things to eat/ pay bills. She was an inspiring author. But she didn’t have the time to start her story.
I did see some chemistry between Shaun and Andrea but that took a backseat to Shaun’s journey as a parent. He hadn’t been in his son Trevor’s life for two years and when he got custody to his now five year old, he was a little lost. I liked that Shaun stepped up and shown his son the love that he didn’t seem to get from his mother. Back to the chemistry bit, I saw some between Shaun and Andrea, the attraction between them was clear to see, as was the passion. I understood why Shaun wouldn’t admit/confirm to Andrea that he believed that they were mates but my heart ached for Andrea.
The owl scene had me on the edge of my seat. I was scared for Andrea and the dangerous situation she found herself in. I know she only shifted once in this story but after the owl situation, if it were me, I wouldn’t ever shift again.
I really liked Trevor. I liked how much he loved Andrea. My heart broke for him towards the end of the story. He truly believed that a person could only love one person (especially parental wise). I liked that it worked out in the end and Shaun could finally get together with the woman he wanted and have his son’s blessing. Finally realising why Trevor was so against him liking Andrea.
The storyline for this book is easy to follow and a nice read. I cannot wait for more books from this series.

2 & 1/2 stars rounded up.
This was a cutesy short story with a HEA for the couple & child, but I felt it really was borderline not being paranormal. Yes, readers are told that Shaun's a tiger shifter, & we see Andrea's a hawk shifter, but other than one scene where she changes into her hawk for a little stress relief flying, and the 2 times that toddler Trevor shifted for a minute, there was not any other "shifts" in the entire story. I wanted the tiger to come out & play, I wanted to see the tiger in all his glory, more than I did the hawk & the toddler's cub. I wanted way more of the tiger, which was why I grabbed this book- just for the tiger. Also, for a tiger shifter, Shaun was too tame, too docile, too domesticated, I would never have pegged him as a tiger shifter without being "told" he was in the story. I also didn't like Shaun, he was a jerk to Andrea, and he really needed to be put thru the wringer before she forgave him. Andrea came across as a doormat, letting him walk all over her. I never felt the connection/love/chemistry between the couple, if they hadn't been shifters with the insta-love & "mate" thing going on, this would not have been a believable story. The fiasco of the promise he makes to a 5 year old was too stupid to be believable. The wedding fiasco, what idiot leaves a group of 5 year olds unattended at a wedding! There were a lot of unanswered questions regarding the shifters in general, that I either had to assume is like every other shifter book or ignore it, and I definitely was not enchanted enough to want to continue with the series or re-read this book. I wasn't mad I read it, but I was disappointed with it. I wanted the dramatic explosion of fur, claws & fangs but this book did not deliver.

The Tiger Next Door adds a very real touch of life as a single parent with young Trevor’s reactions to the interest between his dad, Shaun and his friend/teacher Andrea. Jealous? Maybe, just a touch. But there is more there as well, and we’ll discover Trevor’s real thoughts by the ending of this magical romance.
Both Shaun and Andrea knew, or very strongly suspected by their animal’s reactions, that they were mates early on… the trouble came as two-fold. Trevor’s intense determination to keep the adults apart or only focused on him, and the fact that shifters aren’t out in this world so neither knew if the other person even knew about shifters, let alone was one. too. I had a good chuckle — at myself — when at the ending I discovered Trevor’s true reasoning and I was close, but not in the way I’d thought throughout the story. *grin* I happen to love when an author tosses a red herring in like that, definitely made me laugh at myself.
I had read Dancing Bearfoot back when it was a single title, and I’m so glad that we got a series from that charming small town. We’ll get to see Patricia, Lee and Clara again, and meet up with some other secondary characters that I certainly hope we see again soon. If you’re in the mood for a feel good Shifter Romance that will engage your emotions and maybe your laughter as well, then you’re sure to enjoy The Tiger Next Door.

Giving this book five stars because it does what it sets out to do and it does it well. If you're looking for "love at first sight between rich guy from the city and small town gal" with a touch of urban fantasy flavor, this is the series for you! This is a light and fluffy story with a side dish of happy sex scenes and many marriages. It's a feel-good kind of book.
Now, I'm not really the target audience for this. I've got some Strong Opinions about how rich a person should be allowed to get (just like I'm not in favor of people hoarding food), I never want to have children and I'm an aromantic with no interest in marriage. I do enjoy romance stories, but I can rarely focus on them if there isn't another plot or three running parallel to the people falling in love, and I have no personal experience of instant attraction other than "huh, that person is hot", so the concept of instant soul mates isn't one I seek out. Yet I still enjoyed this book, children, marriages, soul mates, and all.
The only reason I didn't finish this sooner was...well, I think you all know why. We're living through extra rough times right now - allowing yourself to enjoy a silly little romance can be both rewarding and trying under these circumstances. I place no blame on these books for my slow reading speed; that honor goes to the world at large.
Highly recommended to all looking to read cute m/f romances, fantasy lovers or no!

I primarily listened to this book but Audible would not let me review the audiobook for some reason so posting here instead. This might be why it has no reviews on the audible listing?
Anyway, cute shifter story with single-dad Shuan unexpectedly getting custody of his son Trevor. He finds his fated mate in Andrea his ex-wife's former neighbour.
I did like that Trevor was portrayed realistically and not just brought out conveniently when the plot needed him. He was a traumatised kid who had abandonment issues and I feel like the author managed this somewhat realistically.
Shuan was a bit of a jerk who could have handled things better with more communication. This is why the book lost 1 star. However the story wasn't long enough for me to get too mad at him so I was able to forgive the character and enjoy the story.
Andrea was a nursery assistant to Trevor's class and worked at the diner although her primary passion was writing. Trevor is very attached to her as his mother often left him with Andrea babysitting. I guess I liked Andrea's charector too but Shuan and Trevor left more of an impression I think.
Both narrators did a good job. The male narrator's American accent was pretty good (I am guessing he is a Brit) and did not pull me out of the story. I have purchased Green Valley Shifters set 1-3 which I did not notice before getting this one as I would like to listen to the other 2 books.

A sweet swoony shifter story
I loved Andrea and Shaun’s story. Shaun is a tiger shifter who temporary moved to Green Valley after getting some custody of his 5 yo son, Trevor. Andrea is hawk shifter, a waitress, preschool teacher, and Shaun’s neighbor. When Shaun meets Andrea he realizes she is his mate and plans to tell her until Trevor makes him promise that Andrea will just be his teacher. This is where the bumbling and painful journey to their HEA starts with both MCs trying to do the right thing and ignoring the fated mates pull. The book is fairly low angst (though there is a bunch of c’mere c’mere but stay away for reasons) and has a little bit of everything - sweet moments, a bit of steam, laughs, cringe worthy moments, supportive and nosy townspeople, cute children, painful pasts, and lots of swoony love. The story was well written with relatable characters and an engaging storyline that made me feel all the things. I’ll definitely keep reading this series.

This cute paranormal romance stars a businessman who gains sudden custody of his young son and goes to live with him in the town of Green Valley so that he can continue to attend his beloved preschool.
Shaun, who is a tiger shifter, thinks the move will only be temporary. He isn't expecting to fall in love at first sight with his son Trevor's preschool teacher Andrea who happens to be a hawk shifter. Things are complicated when his son makes him promise not to fall in love with Andrea.
Andrea's inner hawk has recognized Shaun as her mate too. But she's worried that he will soon be leaving. So Shaun and Andrea begin an affair that they keep secret from Trevor. The premise of the affair is that she is teaching him about home improvements for his house.
Meanwhile, Shaun is questioning his life choices and contemplating a career chance while dealing with a preschooler who is shifting to a lion when he gets stressed.
This was a nice story with interesting characters and cute kids. I enjoyed the small town setting and the paranormal elements.

3.5 Stars
I received a copy from the author and I voluntarily leave my honest review.
This one was a really quick read which made it feel a little rushed and important events glossed over. I mean Trevor was abandoned by his mum and at age 5 you would think there would be more of a reaction or discussion and reassurance from his Dad, it made Trevor's behavious at the wedding so understandable.
I felt Shaun could have handled things better, I totally get that he was thrown in the deep end and expected to be a father straight up but he came across a little selfish, not really reassuring his son and basically originally using Andrea for sex (even for the reasons given) and he knew they were mates from the beginning.
Andrea was very likeable, she also knew that Shaun was her mate, with her being a Hawk shifter but I feel she didn't really fight that hard to make a relationship work.
Being so short it was all resolved really quickly with a HEA.
Overall an ok addition to the series.

Good story, but not what I expected
This one was not as fun, in my opinion. There were funny moments and scenes, but the tone was much more conflicted than I wanted to see. The characters were very detailed and you could see where they were coming from and Shaun's devotion to Trevor was great, but I wanted to see him be more for Andrea as well.
That being said, the pace is leisurely, the tone is conflicted as I mentioned before, the storyline is character oriented with some steamy scenes and detailed characters. I liked it, but missed the more lighthearted moments of the first story. It is still well written and you want to see them get together. But you just wanted to tell them both to listen to their animals! However after hearing Trevor's view of things near the end it made much more sense! Read book 1 first, and then this one. I want to see who the next one is about!

What a story!
Kindle Unlimited purchase
By Zoe Chant
I've read Zoe's books before. Most if not all are short stories. So far this series has out done itself. Some of her books ( like most short stories) have no character development, and no heart. But with this series oh my God. It's character development on steroids. The books have romance, respect, and the "preschoolers and laughter and joy to the book, not just put on the back burner as a forgotten character.
Poor Trevor. We were introduced to Trevor and his "mom" in book one. Well her character doesn't get any better. I don't understand how ANY mother can treat their children like she did Trevor. So happy he had Shawn to fall back on. I felt sorry for Shawn too, how Harriette kept him away from Trevor then when it was convenient for her just walks into his work and throws him away. But in the long run it was for the best.

Tiger? What tiger?
This was a sweet story of Shaun, a divorced dad who had been deprived of his young son. Suddenly he is confronted by his ex wife who does not want the child anymore and legally signs papers giving Shaun full custody and then departs.
Shaun has to build up a relationship with Trevor, his five year old son, so returns to the now empty house where the boy has been living. Here he meets Andrea his next door neighbour and pre school assistant, yet for some reason Trevor does not want his dad to like her.
I liked the interplay of what goes on in a child's mind, but for being a shifter story I was disappointed. Apart from an incident with Andrea and then Trevor, no shifting occurred.Shaun was supposedly a tiger shifter, but the reader gets no evidence of it. Slightly downplayed I am sorry to say, hence only three stars.

Wonderful Read
I love this series, and this is a wonderful installment. I enjoy how the books tie together yet standalone. They just get better, and I'm completely engaged.
The focus on relationships makes the spicy romance deeper and more meaningful. It's the best part of the books for me, and why this series is so great. This particular tale is charming because of the bonds with Trevor; they added the tension, humor, and heart.
Something I enjoyed about this book specifically was how the authors shared Andrea's shifting experiences. The way they paralleled her human moments to the sensation of flight was spot on. It really moved me, making the shifter elements more believable.
This is such a sweet story. I recommend it for sure. Personally, I can't wait to see what else happens in Green Valley!

Never my favorite type of plot, where "hero" is all "...you're so hot that I'm going to sleep with you because I'm all that, but never actually take you seriously enough to actually talk about a relationship or the future, because "reasons". And she just gets screwed in more ways than one and he doesn't think enough of her to actually have the talk, again...reasons. I have no respect for men like this where it's all about them and the woman just gets used because she's temporary (and a doormat). It's really hard for me to "feel" romantic about this kind of relationship going forward, no matter how sweet the author turns it at the end from disposable to life mate. I'm like, why am I supposed to respect or invest in this type of user? Because, basically he's just a slimeball, who changes his mind at the last moment. And why also am I supposed to respect or invest in her character either? Does she have such low self worth that she can't set boundaries or expectations either? Both of them need to grow up and actually communicate.
Of course, and as always, YMMV. I, personally, just don't care for this trope.
Note:
I'm actually reading this as a kindle e-book, but GR has the title for the e-book listed as very weirdly different, so I'm using paperback option instead, because it matches what I'm actually accessing.

Shaun and Andrea's Shifters' Love Tryst! 3.5***** Spoiler Alert!
Wealthy, recently divorced, tiger shifter, dad of Trevor who's an early six year old lion shifter, Shaun, met his mate, Andrea. Andrea, who is Trevor 's kindergarten teacher, and fellow hawk shifter, helped Shaun acclimate to parenthood while courting Andrea. They manage to maneuver Green Valley's gossip, and Trevor's wedding antics to make their HEA a reality.
Middling storyline with adorable characters! Honesty is the best policy in love and relationships. A cute Summer read.

A shifter family..
Andrea is a bird shifter and a worker at a preschool. Shaun is a millionaire and a tiger shifter. He has a son, Trevor, who is enrolled in the preschool. Shaun's ex-wife dropped his son off on him when he was four and signed his custody so that she could leave the country. Shaun finally realized that she only wanted custody until she got all the money she could. Trevor didn't really mean anything to her. Andrea was also a babysitter for Trevor and they were close. Shaun and Andrea, both being shifters, recognized they were mates. Love brought them together as a family. When Shaun proposed Trevor also asked her to be his mom. She said YES.....

Shaun has always wanted one thing, for more time with his son. Andrea has always loves kids, but aspires to be a writer. One look and they are drawn together, but his son has other ideas. Will Andrea find her missing links? Will Shaun be able to repair the damage before it is to late?
Have to admit my heart broke for Shaun's son. I loved the fact that Shaun was willing to do what it took when he became a single father. Loved Andrea's heart and how it showed through time and again! Great read!

I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are honest
The characters + storytelling were very captivating
Shaun's ex-wife just drop off his son + waved good bye to him.
( She is a B__, with a capital B )
Now Shaun has a chance to really connect with his son.
Trevor is such a sweetheart.
Shaun wasn't looking, but he does find his mate + she is his next door neighbor.
It has all the ingredients that you need for an awesome book!
I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Very sweet and sometimes amusing, other times bittersweet. This is a story about a little boy named Trevor who is unceremoniously dumped in his dad's office by his heartless mother who no longer wants him. Shaun, the dad, moves to Green Valley with the intention of only staying until the end of the school semester so his son can finish out the school year. Andrea is the next door neighbor and also one of Trevor's teachers as well his oftentimes babysitter. Upon meeting Shaun and Andrea discover they're mates.

Love it
I think this is a great story it showed what to do and not to do when you have a 5 yr old. I think some of the stuff could have been prevented if Shaun actually sat down and talked to his son from the beginning when he was given full custody and tbat big B left after getting money. But it was exciting in parts and sad in others.. Im so glad they finally got together in the end.
