(DNF) This was very disappointing. The MCs were technically not together yet, but I personally do not like it when the Hero is with another woman anytime in the book. I stopped after the chapter opened with him having just finished having sex with a woman who commented on him being rougher than usual, since they'd had sex before.
No matter what the time period is, readers of romance DO NOT want to read about the Hero being with another woman at any point during the book, even if the MCs aren't together yet. I do not understand why authors feel the need to include scenes with other sexual partners. It doesn't add to the story and you can make it part of their character without adding the scene. Or, I don't know, why don't you have the guy masturbate for once in their lives?
Wonderful book and characters It brings together the former dukes who are all drawn together as orphans as each of their fathers were killed . Enzo is the darkest of all of them until he meets Lydia Knight who he married and as time goes by she starts to really see him and helps him heal. They had their ups and downs but in the end they get their forever HEA . Would have liked to had an extended epilogue to see what the life would been like with children. Would highly recommend, happy reading! 👍
This is truly the story of how the cold and cruel parents can warp their children! Ezra has been a Duke since he was thirteen when his father died in a fire at the docks with three other dukes. His mother has hated him since birth, and when he was fourteen , he had her moved out and ignored her. Now two of the other dukes are married and fathers, so Ezra decides he needs a bride, and after careful research, he has decided to on Juliet, but when he meets her, it’s her older sister Lydia that attracts his attention. When Juliet tells her sister she loves someone else, Lydia will marry him instead. Their marriage is a business arrangement only, only there is a lot more to this story!
I really enjoyed this story. It is steamy in parts but is well-written. I really liked the camaraderie between the four dukes and the way they supported each other. Their wives were equally supportive. Duke Ezra was considered unfeeling but he needed a wife to help his business connections. He married Lady Lydia and they formed a business partnership, rather than a loving marriage. After their marriage there were several attacks against Ezra. Who was behind this? I liked the way all the Dukes worked together to find the person behind the attacks and also protected their wives at the same time. The story has unexpected twists and is vicious at times but a sense of humour peeps occasionally. An enjoyable, steamy read.
Violet Hamers continues her series about four Dukes who are friends and share a traumatic past, with book three, Duke of Chaos. With each book, more secrets about the four Dukes' past is revealed, not only about what happened to their father, but their relationships to their mothers and their sexual proclivity. The slow but steady unveiling of secrets and the mystery behind their fathers death has led me to devour each book in order. I am so captivated with each story, I simply can't wait to read the next! The series is available through my Kindle Unlimited membership, but I have enjoyed the books so much that I purchased all four. This is a series I may read over and over again.
Again, Ezra the Duke of Frampton contracts for marriage with an unlikely candidate, Lydia, the spinster sister of his friend Duncan's wife, Alice. The continued conflict between the two characters, as well as the slow burning sexual attraction, is very well written. Other critics have stated that the romance and overall storyline move too slowly. I believe that allure is heightened by the sexual tension building between the two main characters. Violet Hamers does a wonderful job of developing both Ezra and Lydia into three-dimensional and relatable characters. Without the slow burning romantic twist, the love scenes would be nothing more than erotic sex, which does nothing to advance the plot.
Ezra's past relationship with his parents is darker than the other three friends. His secret sexual proclivity, as well as the extent of his debt, he struggles to keep hidden from his friends, gives him an air of dark mystery. Violet Hamers uses this to create a more Gothic suspense feel to this novel. I appreciated that each Duke's story had a different emotional punch to it. Duke of Chaos kept me totally engaged at all times. I found it difficult to put it down.
Don't stop with book one and/or two of this intriguing series! The mystery is not resolved until all four Dukes are able to find their soulmates. Each one contributes to the whole, and you will miss the exciting conclusion if you don't finish the series. It is well worth your time, I promise.
This was, overall, a very smutty book. The sex scenes were extremely well-written and steamy, easily some of the best I've read in a while without diving into the BDSM territory. The writing was average—nothing groundbreaking—but it managed to hold my attention, which is quite rare for me these days given my attention span rivals that of a chicken 🫠
The pacing and dialogues were fine. Nothing extraordinary, but also not cringe-worthy, which I appreciated. The pace felt balanced, and I didn't find myself irritated or bored by how events unfolded.
Now let me get to the parts that ultimately brought this rating down to a 3.
→ The Plot & The Characters:
The plot was virtually nonexistent. To summarize the entire book: Control freak and emotionally closed-off hero meets a kind, self-sacrificing heroine who takes on the protector role for her younger sister—and they have lots of steamy sex.
That’s it. That’s really all there is.
There was a subplot involving the hero being targeted because of events in his past, with an attempted murder mystery thrown in, but it wasn’t engaging. I found it dull and couldn’t bring myself to care much about its resolution.
As for the characters, they were as blank as a freshly cleaned whiteboard—completely one-dimensional. They exhibited emotions, sure, but there was no soul behind them to make me feel connected. The hero was your typical emotionless alpha who simply needed to fall in love and magically forget about all his traumas. The heroine, while kind and selfless, didn’t have much depth either.
Overall, the characters lacked complexity and failed to resonate with me.
→ Final Thoughts:
If you’re looking for a book with lots of good smut and aren’t too fussed about plot or character development, you’ll likely enjoy this one. But if you need a more well-rounded story with compelling characters, this may not hit the mark.
I loved Lydia and Ezra’s story. Ezra was a very controlling person and he wanted the perfect Duchess who can help him further his agenda. When Ezra the Duke of Chaos was looking at her little sister for his Duchess she makes a bargain with him. His friends are furious when they find out he’s marrying Lydia and so are hers. The struck a bargain that it will be a business partnership and nothing else. But when someone tries to kill Ezra things change. A wonderful, erotic story with a great ending.
Rumor has it that there is a match for everyone. Certainly, the two unconventional people in this book found theirs! Despite past tragedy and current conflicts and threats, Lydia and Ezra turned a businesslike marriage into a relationship. This open door romance had multidimensional characters and a mystery which has surrounded the four dukes throughout the series. Ezra was a somewhat dark character who found a feisty woman to shake his iron control.
The heroine knows her sister is in love with someone else so she introduces herself as a substitute bride to the hero. The hero needs a marriage to help with his business dealing so he agrees to the exchange. Things get a little tricky as he is attacked. The other dukes from previous stories in the series come to help him find the culprit as they also try to protect their wives. It was a good tale with some twists to keep my interest.
This is the third book in the series the Four Dukes and it just keeps getting better this time it's Ezra and Lydia love story along with more of the mystery surrounding the fathers of the four dukes please make sure you read the first two books before you read this one.
Quite an unusual storyline with lots of interesting twists and turns. The mystery surrounding their fathers deaths, the relationship with their mothers plus their kinky sex lives keeps this book interesting and flowing! Ezra and Lydia are the main characters of this story as is their unusually beginning. I definitely recommend this book.
Taking her sister’s place in marriage The work is now pleasurable & fun but there is no love … yet. While looking for the final chapter in their Father’s death the brothers search to protect their wives & search for the truth- and love is abounding!
I couldn't put book down. I to find out what mystery they held. I know it will come out with the next book. Morgan s story I hope sums up all my questions about what started the lives of the 4 dukes to be so dark. I've been looking for answers hoping in the next book you will give me the answer.
A well written novel. The story draws you in and keep engaged from beginning to end. Many twist and turners in this historical romance murder secrets and lies powerful men and women who can hold their own with them and against them many things are not what they seem and there are some very steamy moments for good measure. A very good all round easy read.
If you enjoy feisty ladies and dominating men you will love reading how Lydia and Ezra, two strong people who learn to love each other, learn to accept each other as they are and overcome the challenges that threaten their lives. This is another Violet Hamers great regency story one I highly recommend.
Lydia and Ezra's story was amazing from start to end of book. I truly loved how the romance progressed and their sex life didn't leave much to the imagination! Truly a book I will buy and reread. highly recommend!
