Rate this book
In the quiet halls of a small-town community college, five ordinary students find their lives forever altered. When a mysterious system event thrusts them into a galaxy-wide tournament, they must rise to the challenge. With Earth’s fate hanging in the balance, these friends-turned-champions must unlock their latent powers, forge unbreakable bonds, and navigate the cosmic arena.

Emy has faced adversity her entire life. Now, she is about to discover a power beyond imagination—one that allows her to shape and integrate matter at the molecular level. This newfound ability, known as “Building,” enables her to manipulate the very fabric of reality. With it, she can rearrange atoms, construct intricate structures, and alter the physical world around her. Alongside her four companions, the team embarks on a journey of growth, skill mastery, and unexpected camaraderie.

Will they emerge as the heroes Earth desperately needs? Or is their path predestined by forces beyond their understanding? In “The Quantum Games,” science, magic, and the boundless expanse of the cosmos weave together in an enthralling LITRPG adventure. As they battle for survival, these college students discover that destiny isn’t always written in the stars—it’s forged in the crucible of the unknown.

Hailing from Carson City, Nevada, my journey has led me to the lively city of Reno. Here, my incredible wife and two wonderful daughters support my part-time writing pursuits, which I dive into after tucking the girls into bed. I am deeply moved by books that evoke strong emotions, and recently, I’ve developed a passion for LitRPG and progression fantasy novels.

When I’m not immersed in writing or being a dad, I enjoy being a Dungeon Master in Dungeons & Dragons sessions. Guiding my heroes through treacherous adventures and watching their inventive solutions brings me immense joy. Writing fiction allows me to share stories exactly as I envision them—a stark contrast to D&D, where my players often creatively dismantle my meticulously planned campaigns.

Disclaimers: Someone bought this audiobook for me because of a promotional post they saw on Reddit.

2nd Disclaimer: I have decided to stop listening and do not plan to finish the book. This will be my first unfinished book for 2025.

This book was recommended as a "follow-up to Dungeon Crawler Carl" which honestly for most litRPG writers is setting yourself up for failure. The Quantum Games definitely falls into that category. The book has all the common weaknesses of litRPGs and absolutely none of the strengths of DCC.

The MC, as most litRPG, just so happen to have the absolute best and great at the game. No clear explanation or well establish reason. The author spends very little time building support characters, another common problem with litRPGs, side characters are often relegated to close to no character development and exist like they are NPCs in a video game. The MCs never truly get into any real peril and everything is overcome relatively easily. The lore and world felt like a Temu knock off of DCC. There appears to be a fixation about mechanics over telling a story. E.g., DCC does a very good job telling a story when explaining mechanics of the game world in DCC. I never felt like I'm reading a videogame guide book. A common problem with many litRPG, and the Quantum Games definitely struggles with that too.

But overall, I would have probably rated this book 2/5 rather than a 1/5 if not for the terrible audiobook narrator... The narration might be a better medication for insomnia than Eszopiclone, sleep doctors should consider studying its effectiveness in randomized controlled trials. The narrator has just a flat and boring voice, its hard to get any level of excitement when listening to the book. This, again, reminds me of the comparison to DCC. DCC probably has one of the top audiobook productions out there. The Quantum Games, hands down as one of the poorest.

Disclaimer: I know the author and was lucky to be one of the first to read this work.
The first book by a new author, The Quantum Games is a fun coming-of-age story about a group of five students who are chosen to take part in an intergalactic contest. While the pacing is uneven in a couple of chapters, the characters and plot kept me interested as Robably successfully merges videogame and Sci-Fi concepts with John Hughes' americana vibes. A recommended read!

Earth has been challenged to participate in an intergalactic quantum game. The invitation went to high school students, not the governments of Earth. The games become more difficult as time goes on. However, the high school students get powers that no other humans have.
