"I'm not a yo-yo. You can't keep bouncing me back and forth. You want me, you don't, you want me, you don't..."

When it comes to books of this length, I usually just count my blessings when it comes to rating them. This... this is a challenge to say something nice about.

Because at the heart of Anonymous is a poorly planned mystery with weak red herrings and deplorable characters trapped in a ridiculous conflict, cursed with the worst excuse of a "shocking" plot twist in the history of ever.

Ali is a workaholic lawyer in the process of getting divorced by her discontented husband Mark. In a moment of womanly weakness, after seeing her husband with another woman, she goes on a dating site called Anonymous where she meets "Joe". After being charmed by Joe's mad wooing skillz through playing "What's your favorite?" and sending her to tears through sending her virtual daffodils (I kid you not), Ali grows increasingly distant from her husband.

A slight inconvenience since she has a stalker who sends her these "YOU WILL DIE" notes and Mark is a cop bent on winning her back by becoming the hero in that whacked out scenario.

So yeah, Ali's got a bit too much on her plate to begin with when she finally agrees to meet up with the mysterious Joe.

On a cruise.
Yes, that's in the middle of the ocean.

I don't know if it's just me, but I had the twist figured out early on, making me a bit more critical of the red herrings Dani-Lyn Alexander has been frantically throwing my way. It really made very little sense in the end, with a lot of loose ends left, well, loose. Particularly,

Ali as a character made as much sense to me as Calculus. She's angry at him, stepping out with a younger woman around the time of their divorce, even driving her to join that dating site. Like is such a strong word to use here, but I did appreciate that she tried to exert her independence from Mark when he tries to win her favor playing the Protective Cheating Alpha husband role against her stalker. Even if she's being illogically stubborn, I suppose that little bit of pride in her was something I could empathize with.

But soon as she discovers that
The starry-eyed and loopy romantics will see that as fateful... the smart and pragmatic will see that as divine providence. The universe telling them to run.

Fast, Far and Away.
From each other.
Or down a bottomless ditch together if luck permits.

In the strictest sense, this would be shelved as a happily ever after. But upon closer inspection it actually ends on an ominous note. One that reflects the unresolved decay in a marriage, the stench temporarily glossed by the glitter and confetti of romance, blurring out the writings that are already on the wall.
For the first time, she realized they'd both been wrong. Mark for seeking fun elsewhere and her for giving up on them.
Ofcourse, Mark had been more wrong, but it was time to forgive.

Unfortunately, both protagonists are practically illiterate.

Maybe if I wasn't watching a friend go through this in real life I'd be able to look at this more dispassionately, but I can't.

I had been wanting to read Anonymous for ages, so when I had a gap in my reading list I jumped at the chance to dive straight into this highly addictive book. Ali has just come out of a long term relationship and wants to have a break before jumping into another serious relationship. So she decides to join a dating website, unsure of what she wants, she soon becomes friends with Joe who seems like lovely guy who has his own share of relationship problems.
It is long before Ali starts receiving death threats and when a car nearly kills her, she is forced to turn to her ex-boyfriend to help find out who is behind the attacks. Moving forward from Mark seems even more complicated when he is watching her every move, to stop another incident from happening.
So when Ali decides that meeting her new online possible relationship, she is thrown into a situation which is not at all what she expected especially as he isn't who he said he is. Sometimes being anonymous isn't as great as you once believe it is and could put you in more danger than you realise.
I loved the relationship that Ali and Mark have, even though they have split up you can tell how much they care about each other and that they are not over each other. I wasn't sure whether I wanted them to get back together or if I wanted her to get together with Joe but I did want all the characters to be happy one way or another. They all had their faults but they were all likeable characters which make reading about them even more enjoyable.
Anonymous is a book that will leave you in suspense with every page you turn, not knowing what is happening or if the characters will be safe. It is a book I highly recommend as it will surprise you and make you sigh with the turn of the last page, having been on a rollercoater of a journey with the characters. Anyone who loves romantic, cop drama novels will love this brilliant book by this fantastic author.

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads, so here is my review. This is a great story that has lost love, failed marriage and suspense. Ali is trying to survive on her own after her husband Mark broke her heart. He though he wanted something new but came to realize it was a mistake. If he could get Ali to forgive him and they forget the divorce. Ali feels so alone that her friend suggest she look into a dating sight the is called "Anonymous" because you don't share any personal information. When she connects with "Joe" she thinks that maybe things might be looking up for her. Until she sees that grey envelope. It is another threatening letter from her stalker. She calls Ron, a cop that is a friend and also Mark's partner. Can she be make a better connection with Joe? Can she and Mark make the marriage work after all? Will she be saved from her stalker? This is a short read and I hope there will be more. This is a first for me from Dani-Lyn Alexander and I really enjoyed it. So if you like a great story with some suspense, this one is for you because it will keep you guessing.

I received this book from Netgalley for my honest review.

A short novella. I think my rating is due to its shortness.

Things were happening much to quickly and I couldn't "digest" them quickly enough.

Also, maybe for the same reason, I couldn't "buy" the explanation of who was the male from Anonymous. Was he th villain? Was he the husband... Even after reading the end I was not certain. And I'm not still...

For example, he has an ailing parent and a sister, but neither the husband nor the villain have them. So who is he? Maybe he was nobody, just someone put there to mud the waters... I still don't know.

Also, I disliked the part where the husband was asking himself what did he do wrong! How could he ask himslef something like that???!!! I'm not sure I would forgive him, more so if I could read his mind (and like a reader I could!).

So, I'm convinced that if everything happening in this book was better and more thoroughly explained tha book would be much better!

I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.

This novella was a little surprise packet. Told from the point of view of Ali, Mark and Joe I was sucked into the story straight away. Ali and Mark are in the process of getting divorced. I could really feel Ali's heartbreak and when she started talking to Joe on the dating website Anonymous I was happy to see her moving on.

Aside from her love lift drama someone is threatening to kill Ali and I liked the little bit of mystery this added.

I didn't want this book to be over. I really enjoyed the author's writing. I'm very glad to see she has a catalogue of work I can enjoy. I look forward to trying out some of her other stories.

I actually really liked this. It was gripping and had suspense. I do think though that if it was longer, it could have been improved and been an awesome book.
I thought the ending was a little disappointing- the suspense builds up to Ali finally comes face to face with her tormentor but then it just fizzles out...nothing really happens.

The blurb of this book intrigued me straight away and matched with the enigmatic cover, I was eager to start reading. I was expecting a full length novel but this definitely sits in the novella camp. As always, with novellas, you have to be able to tell a story without leaving anything out – you have to be succinct.

Ali is left heartbroken when her husband Mark files for a divorce. Deciding she wants to give internet dating a go, she signs up for a site called Anonymous where she meets the mysterious Joe.

However, when she starts receiving hate mail and death threats, she ends up back in contact with Mark, her soon to be ex-husband, who happens to be a policeman. As they both try to get to the bottom of the hate mail, Joe and Ali agree to meet up. But when they do, not everything is as it seems. Can you ever really know who you’re talking to online?

This novella has all the perfect elements – suspense, intriguing characters, a compelling plot and a great narrative. But for me the book fell down in the length and the climax. I felt the length was all wrong – everything happened too quickly and this meant certain strands of the plot weren’t explored and detailed as much as they could and should have been. This meant the climax was very confusing and I was quite shocked at the randomness of it all! There was a suspenseful build up but it fell flat for me.

If this book had been longer and had more of an emphasis on the stalking then I think it would have been even better. The resolution was too fast and unbelievable in my opinion.

There were plenty of aspects I loved about this book though. The protagonist was really well written and I felt like I really knew her which was a great plus point. The suspense was incredibly well built up and maintained and would have been amazing in an even longer novel. Alexander has got a really strong narrative voice and can only go from strength to strength.

I really enjoyed Dani-Lyn Alexander's "Anonymous", although I would put it at a solid three and a half stars so I rounded up.

The writing is excellent, and the story is filled with suspense as you try to figure out if her mysterious on-line interest has anything to do with the threats she's facing (or if it could be the father-like friend she turns to, or her ex, or someone that had been in the background that you somehow missed noticing).

Then, you also are working through her new on-line love/friendship interest as well as the feelings that might still be involved with her ex, and whether her ex really isn't that bad of a guy or if he's just a jerk, or perhaps even the face behind the threats. The romance in this makes me think of a song I've always loved, but if I revealed the song's title, it would be a spoiler of sorts.

Unfortunately, as a novella, I feel like some of the build up to the final romance resolution was left for the reader to figure out rather than read, and for some that could lead to a little disappointment. I would love to see this fleshed out a little more as a longer story, because I really loved the concept and if she shared a little more, it would have been a solid 4 star novella. The suspense part of the tale also could have benefited from a longer read where tidbits from various parts of her life could have opened up more questions to the who-dunnit side of things.

Overall, I think you'll find it a well written, but too short novella. As I read each subsequent Dani-Lyn story, her writing continues to evolve and mature -and this one will keep you turning the pages.

I look forward to her future books, because there is something very compelling about the way she spins a story. I'm hoping to see some longer works in the future.

This is meant to be a short, sweet read and since I knew that going in, I've rated it accordingly. I'm not knocking down a rating just because it's a novella. It's supposed to be short, things are supposed to happen quickly..it's not like you've taken 7 chapters and an hours worth of reading to fill you in on the characters, backstory and plot. I've received a free copy for a blog tour and an honest review.

Anonymous is a short read. It took me about an hour or so. It starts right out and never really stops. After 15 years of marriage Ali and Mark are headed for a divorce. He met up with an old girlfriend and Ali moved out. Now she's getting death threats, there have been attempts on her life, nasty phone calls, and to top it all off she still loves her husband.

Her friend Kendra suggests a new site, Anonymous, you get to know potential mates online...you're supposed to "get to know" each other for a minimum of 3 months before meeting.

Well, things come to a head and Ali decides to go on a short cruise with "Joe" the guy she's only known for a few weeks from Anonymous.

There's always something going on, the time just flies. It's a short n sweet love story!

Perfect for a day at the beach!

For a short sweet read you couldn't ask for more. The ONLY reason this is NOT a 5 star read is because of the "culprit"...had we had a little bit of backstory, like a first chapter that tells about it, I would have given it 5 Stars.

Anonymous is a quick, easy suspenseful read.

Ali is a great character determined to move on even though she still loves Mark her soon to be ex-husband. Ali and Mark's characters are realistic and interesting. The build up of suspense is absorbing but the end isn't. The antagonist is too vague and for me an anti climax when he does appear.

For such a short story there is a lot going on. The plot is intriguing and well written but some aspects needed more emphasis to make this into a satisfying read for me. This story is more suspense then romance. The plot and characters need a longer story to fulfil their potential but as a taste of the writing style, suspense build up and character development it is well worth reading.

If you're looking for a fast paced intriguing read, then ANONYMOUS by Dani-Lyn Alexander is the story for you.

I actually really enjoyed reading this book despite it being on the short side for me. It really was a breath of fresh air from the full length novels, to read something quick yet filled to the rafters with suspense, drama and twists galore.

You quickly feel for Ali in this story. Her heart has been recently broken, and a divorce asked for by her husband is imminently looming. But then throw into the mix death threats and an attempt on her life by an unknown stranger intent on doing her harm...This is all bound to make Ali understandably crushed.

Intent on rebuilding her life, Ali signs up to a new dating site called ANONYMOUS. It's a new site where you can have complete anonymity from anyone you interact with, and vice versa. No personal information is past on, and it's where Ali hopes to eventually meet someone to help rebuild and heal her shattered heart.

ANONYMOUS, by Dani-Lyn Alexander is a gripping well written story, which packs plenty of punch packed into a tiny bundle. There's twists, turns, and suspense galore, and I highly recommend to anyone who loves a quick yet packed read.

Ali is going through a divorce she was married to her high school sweetheart for 15 years. Kendra told her that she should go on anonymous, she was very skeptical about joining. Ali stopped at a Chinese restaurant and ran into Mark her soon to be ex husband and his girlfriend Candy. Ali has been receiving threats in the mail. She called Ron and told him about the letter. When Ron goes back to the police station and showed the letter to Mark. There is a mystery about who this Joe person is that Ali has been talking to on anonymous.
Ali she doesn't want to have to rely on anybody. She has been hurt. Kendra is Ali's friend and she is married and has two kids. Mark is Ali's soon to be ex husband,he is a cop and he doesn't want to divorce Ali.Ron is Mark's partner, he is divorced and he doesn't want to see Mark end up like he is. He wants things to work out between Ali and Mark.
This is my first book by Dani-Lyn Alexander and it wont be my last. This book had me hooked from the first page. The story is very well written and the characters were very well developed. I really felt like I could connect with the characters.

Ali’s trying to move on from her soon-to-be ex-husband Mark. Joining Anonymous, a dating site, might be the first step towards doing that. But solving the problem of the death threats she’s been receiving should also be on her priority list.

This novella is about two very boring people who have lost their connection trying to find a way back, with an abrupt side of suspense and an introduced but completely unexplored tertiary storyline. Perhaps if the story had been fleshed out more, I could have cared more for the characters and the drama. As it was, it seemed like too much was going on with not enough words put into the characters themselves. Ali actually puts on her profile that she enjoys walking on the beach because she did it once and it was kind of fun. She responds to a man on Anonymous because he simply says, “I’d like to get to know you.” Why, exactly?

I was interested in this novella because of the online aspect and I needed an easy and quick read so started this as soon as I downloaded it from NetGalley. I can honestly say I wasn't expecting things to go where they did though. Although I figured the main online aspect out, the threats were definitely not what I was expecting and I would have liked the author to delve deeper into this side of things and establish more suspense and suspicion.

The story moved at a quick pace and although I would have liked more detail--I think it would have made a great full length book--you were given enough to relate to the characters and understand everything.

I don't want to say much more because this is a short story but it was different to what I was expecting and although it's not romantic like the other books from this publisher, I enjoyed the suspense and different angle on a relationship.

I had a hard time with this one. Its hard for me to write this review without really spoiling the story, but the plotline was very predictable to me and needed to be drawn out more.

I had some issues with the main characters, Mark is bored with his marriage to Ali so he starts looking up old flames and then Ali finds out. He decides he wants a divorce but realizes that he may have acted too rash and still loves her and he still wants to be with her. I have a really hard time liking a guy that would go behind his wife's back to meet another woman and then get mad at her when she gets angry with him. Ali also made some choices that were very questionable, when she has a stalker after her threating her life. They just didn't seem very realistic. Both just couldn't seem to make up their minds and were very wishy-washy.

The storyline could have been really great but the book was just too short and rushed. With a bit more development it could be a great read.

Ali and Mark are going through a divorce, of which neither really want. Both take to an internet site to meet someone else, and eventually wind up surprising themselves with their dates. Amidst the marriage drama is Ali's stalker, who sends her notes and attempts to run her down. Literally. Can the relationship be saved? Can Ali be saved?

This was a short, somewhat intense read. I love Alexander's writing style. Sometimes dry, no excess verbiage and enough sweet heat to make me smile. I also loved the idea behind the plot, having the hero and heroine "re-meet" on different terms. I did feel a bit rushed, and would've liked to see some of the conflict more thought out, but was very satisfied with what I read. I rooted for them from page one, so there you have it. Recommended.

Anonymous is a short, intense romantic suspense novella. Ali and Mark are going thru a divorce despite the fact that Ali still loves Mark. It doesn't help that she's been getting death threats from an unknown stalker. Engaging in Anonymous, an online dating site, doesn't seem like a great idea but Ali connects with someone and it feels right to continue this. That is until she finds out who her anonymous chat mate really is. This is well written, concise and despite the length has good character development. The plot seems simplistic but the way it was written manages to keep you guessing what was going on until the last few pages. Well worth the read.

Anonymous is a short and sweet read with a hint of suspense.

The idea of coming full circle in a different way is always a plus. You find yourself racing along to find out who Joe was and what happens in the end. I would have loved for this to be a longer read. I liked it, but I really wanted to love it. The basis for the story is all there. It just needs a little more detail to really bring this story to life, and suck you in.

With Ali and Mark going through a divorce, the dating site, and threats there is definitely some real meat and potatoes here. I’ll be checking out the other books this author has to offer.

I find it hard to review this story. On 1 hand, I enjoyed the "idea" of the plot. On the other, it's not developed. It's a 30 minute read that leaves you wondering what you just read. I feel if the author sits down and truly develops the characters, to where you can actually know them, and maybe makes the plot more detailed, it would be a fantastic romantic suspense. The problem is that it's so under-developed that if I had actually bought this book, I would have been angry. The editing is good. The cover is hot. The story has potential. But, as it is, it's not enough.

This is about a couple who have drifted apart, about to get divorced, with some stalker story line going on in between - which I really would have loved to know more about as that one seemed to come out of no where for me!! - who then find themselves again.

This was just too a short read for me for the story plot to play out properly. I felt there were some aspects that were rushed because of this. It if it was slightly longer or a even full size novel, where the story had more time to develop then I would have given it more stars.

Unfortunately its a 3 stars for me.

A really quick read... but it was full of excitement, suspense, danger, and some awesome twists. It's hard to review a book like this and not give anything away.

The story has so much more to it than the quick little blurb. A cheating husband, a pending divorce, a stalker, a new online dating experience. Ali is really the only character you know anything about... and there are enough minor characters (male and female) to keep you guessing about what is really happening with Ali's mess of a life. I actually found myself gasp out-loud a couple of times... and the ending surprised me.

I struggled between a three and a four star rating on this book. Up until the climax, the writing is amazing keeping me routing for the main characters turning every page as quickly as I could, but then once it hit the climax of finding out who Joe was, I felt let down. The book became too predictable at that point. Overall it was a good book and suspenseful.

I would have enjoyed this book more if it was a fullsize book.
The general idea/plot was good, but due to the shortness it ended up to be all over the place and certain things appeared rushed or coming out of nowhere.
Given more pages certain plotlines could have been more elaborate or be build up better.

A neat, light-touch but suspenseful romance/mystery with excellent pacing. Could have benefited from being drawn into a longer novella, but well worth an hour for your time if you find yourself in the right mood.
