Jess is on the hunt for another ruthless killer when he gets a wire from a county sheriff in the town of Goudy. The message says that his old friend, John Booth, is locked up in his jail for killing a man without having a warrant on him to prove he was wanted.
Jess drops everything and immediately heads to Goudy to get Booth out of jail. He informs the sheriff that the man Booth killed was indeed wanted dead or alive by the law.
After getting Booth released into his custody as a Deputy United States Marshal, Jess takes him along on the hunt for two more killers, agreeing to split the bounty money with him to help him get back on his feet…again.

I’m never going to pass up on a Jess Williams series book by Robert J Thomas. I started years ago and it’s the highlight of my reading life. I may be 71 but I’m still enjoying reading the old fiction western books. This particular book was a little short but I’m ok with that. I guess we all have our differences in taste in books but I am definitely addicted to western fiction. I always enjoy the good heartedness of Jess Williams and his modesty. I like the fact that the author keeps the vulgar language to minimum.
I’ve read all 135 of the Jess Williams stories, some more than once. I like the evolution of the characters and the continuation of the stories. Keep them coming!!
I truly enjoyed the couple of hours reading this book. I'm a voracious reader but this was good that I didn't spend too much time on it. Thanks! Keep writing these short stories.
I've read several other Jess Williams westerns. Always a quick read with lots of action. Jessica can't be beat on the draw, but this time he almost got some splinters from the gun of a fleeing killer.
I have read all of Jess Williams series and enjoyed them all. They are entertaining to read even though they follow the same story line. I will keep buying as long as Robert J. Thomas keeps making them.
