Lovelorn Squids from Outer Space: A Curiously Tart and Tasteful Novel

Rate this book
There is more than one way to travel through time and space, the author learned while researching this first installment of The Brethren Cycle. Banned in Europe and the United States for over a quarter-century, it is only recently Lovelorn Squids From Outer Space was freed from governmental interference, copious redactions rescinded, and the fantastic truths finally revealed.

If read with an open mind, Lovelorn Squids From Outer Space should restore the reputation of disgraced master of the macabre H. P. Honeycutt and his band of brave sub rosa agents, the Brethren. Much of the “voice” of this work is that of Charles LeBlanc, the last living Senior Agent, and survivor of both World Wars and one conflict with the Elder Gods.

One of the silliest books ever written - and that's high praise

The lovechild of pulp fiction (of the 1950's noir variety) plus H.P. Lovecraft plus Marxism (of the Groucho/Harpo variety) plus a bit of early Hunter Thompson - the word play is as abominable as the giant land-walking squids. The jump cuts in time make it hard to follow here and there, but it's supposed to be that way - imagine how the characters feel. Seriously (for just a moment), it's unlike anything you'll ever have read - and it somehow, freakishly, hangs together just fine amidst all the chaos.

It's a fast-paced, clever read. Of course, I'm the author, so it is my baby. If read with an open mind, "Lovelorn Squids From Outer Space" should..." restore the reputation of the disgraced master of the macabre H. P. Honeycutt and his band of brave sub rosa agents, the Brethren." Much of the “voice” of this work is that of Charles LeBlanc, the last living Senior Agent, and survivor of two World Wars and one conflict with the Elder Gods.

Is the novel Sci-Fi? Fantasy? A Mystery? An unconventional Romance? An Action-Thriller?

What it is, is fun. Please give it a whirl! Especially with the latest enhancements on the Kindle.

A little quirky…

Lovelorn Squids from Outer Space: A Curiously Tart and Tasteful Novel by J M Hauer

Do you enjoy reading stories that are written plainly and are mainly dialogue driven?
Then this book is not for you!

Yes there appears to be an issue with the layout, Kindle version, it was being fixed when I reported it to the author, but it does not distract you too much from reading.

This book is beautifully written full of complex sentence structure and witty dialogue. The author’s style reminds me of Neil Gaiman’s, old, unique. Throughout the story the dialogue has been explored in various ways, such as various dialects. Even the alien speech has been cleverly used too!

This story is a mash up of a Detective, Sci-fi, Romance, possibly more… Where Alien Squids desperately need a ‘thingy’! Want to know what a ‘thingy’ is? Read the book!

I do recommend reading the book, especially if you are looking for something different.
