I really enjoyed reading Matt’s book “Follow.” You can tell he has a love for both history and scripture, because his book is chock full of it. I ate up every word.
The American church has really watered down what it means to be a disciple, to the point where we have people in our churches who have grown up in the church and literally have no idea what it means to follow Jesus. Matt addresses this head on, with both love and grace. He walks the reader through scripture, while allowing them to see the historical context of that scripture. Our own western context can cause us to read scripture not with its original intention, and Matt makes sure it’s clear. He connects the dots for the reader who is just learning about being a disciple, and for those who’ve been in church their whole lives. He says, “this call to follow Jesus is not just about physical proximity, but about aligning our entire lives with his teachings and example.” And Matt leads us to his teachings and example.
A great overview of Christian discipleship that has lots of practical examples and is steeped in scripture. Easy to read with excellent questions for personal reflection/group discussion.
This book is full of helpful insights, scripture, and examples for practical application in any Christian’s life. It’s a great tool for anyone seeking to grow closer to Christ and learn more about what it means to be a true disciple.
Absolutely incredible book. I grew up in the church and I am even a pastors wife. I never quite understood what discipleship really meant for me- it was never taught in a clear way until more recently.
This book gave incredible insight to what discipleship is and gave me tangle ways to grow in my faith with Jesus.
