Rory thought a night of thrills in a haunted corn maze would be a fun escape with her friends. But when the scare actors begin to feel too real, she soon realizes that something far more dangerous is lurking among the shadows. A scarecrow begins to focus his chilling attention on her, his unsettling presence turning her night of fun into a twisted nightmare. What begins as fear evolves into something far darker as Rory becomes inexplicably drawn to him.
As her friends begin to disappear one by one, Rory is forced into a deadly game of predator and prey, her every move watched by the man behind the mask. But beneath the burlap and paint, he's more than just a scare actor. He’s a predator in every sense, and Rory is about to discover that she has a darkness inside her just as deep and twisted as his.
Trapped in the maze, her desire to survive collides with her growing obsession. Will Rory escape with her life, or will she surrender completely to the darkness within—and to the man who embodies it?
STALK is a dark, sensual thriller where the lines between terror and temptation cross, and giving in might be Rory’s only way out.
Stalk is a dark and twisted erotic horror novella that will tantalize as much as it terrifies. & was hands down the most perfect read to close out my spooky season reads with!
Definitely written for all the babes who have always wanted to be chased down and ravished by a scare actor (ahem it’s Fryboy for me🥵)
- predator + prey - serial killer - insta-lust - stalking - knife play - blood as lube - questionable axe usage
This was just OK. It’s a short novella and the story does wrap up nicely but the writing was repetitive and the same phrases were used repeatedly.
It was dark and spicy but felt like it was missing something and like it was thrown together.
If this genre/premise is something you would like then this isn’t a bad way to spend about an hour of your time. I didn’t love it but I also didn’t hate it.
Huge thank you to the author for trusting me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
*Spooky season read *Smut *A lot of triggers (check them) *Scarecrow *Dark contents Do you want a good and quick read this Halloween? Better yet, a read with a sexy scarecrow and stalk romance? This book is for you. I love this story and if you like good horror stories with dark elements and spicy, this one's for you.
This book was the perfect spooky season read! It has the suspense and lingering fear, it has the schmexy moments, the heart pumping and heart stopping moments that make you keep reading.
“You enjoy being mine, little rabbit. My prey. My target. My kill. There’s nowhere you can go that I won’t find you.”
For all of those to have been both terrified and enticed by a haunted corn maze, thrilled by the chase, this book is the read for you!
I loved a lot about this book. It’s super spicy with primal play and non-con/ CNC. MMC is a psychopath/ serial killer so you’ve gotta like dark MMC’s.
A few things didn’t make any sense to me at all and jerked me out of the story. Maybe it was just me, but it’s why I took 2⭐️ off. Some things were hard to visualize and didn’t really make sense, like HOW FREAKING LONG WAS SHE WANDERING IN THE CORN MAZE? I mean that thing would have to contain miles of mazes if she stayed till morning. She rarely saw any scare actors, never saw another person in the maze, and completely lost her friends in the maze never-to-be-seen-again. I found it weird that her “best friends” just left her there and went home.
A little more background would have went a LOOOONG way. There’s some back story to the stalking and why it has been going on for so long and why “scarecrow” was obsessed with FMC. He just thought she was like him but waited years?? We needed more explanation.
Why didn’t he come out to see her for weeks afterwards, despite her going to spend every night looking for him? I wasn’t understanding. Plus they know who he is and that he’s a killer but he is never picked up by the police?🤷♀️
DNF, I really wanted to love this book but I just couldn’t do it, the boo felt very repetitive, I think I made it the twenty five percent mark before I gave up. I really liked the premise of the book being in the a Halloween corn maze field.
I AM LITERALLY IN SHOCK... i literally just finished this book in one sitting.. ONE SITTING!!
i was blessed enough to arc read this and boy was i not disappointed.. i literally made notes.. so i'll try get all my thoughts out in one because AHHH WHAT THE HELL
this book is easily a 5 stars for me.. i can't lie about mid way through i wasn't sure it was going to hit 5 stars but boy the second half of the book was absolute insanity!! the darkness, the twists, the character development was next level, rory won me over from the beginning, she is a beautiful character, she held a darkness,a nuance about her from the beginning & she intrigued me from the very beginning!! she is so depraved and she gets more depraved as it goes on.. & the scarecrow,i don't even know how to even describe him.. so incredibly depraved,so dark,so mysterious and boy so intriguing, their relationship grew & got so intense and awakened the deepest parts of each other & myself... i defintely questioned myself heavily😳🫢
the plot is incredible, for a short novella i was expecting so much smutty stuff but the plot heavily added too it & i wouldn't even change it for more smut, the smutting is up there with probably one of the darkest i've read.. im talking use of inanimate objects & much much more!! salem knocked out of the park with this & im so incredibly happy to read this and it will be living rent free in my head forever🤭
summary : scarecrow (you'll find out his name.. no spoilers) & rory have my heart, there realtionship is so dark and depraved & so incredibly spicy, very plot heavy in the beginning (i LOVE!) & the smut is defintely second half primarily! but you do get a little teaser of it in the beginning! this book is written in 3rd person which is new for me!! but i throughly enjoyed this writing style!!
favourite quote/highlight : "you like the darkness don't you?" "you like how it feels to give in"
plot : 10/10 - loved getting to know the characters! spice : 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ character development : 10/10 literally felt like i was living in the moment with rory throughout it all! emotions : SO INTENSE!! on the edge of my seat! so gripping and enticing! could not put it down!!
Honest ARC Review: This Halloween novella was a slow descent into darkness. Rory loves going to the local Halloween festival. She doesn't get scared easily but rumors about this years corn maze have her wondering if she will actually get spooked. As Rory and her friends venture through the maze it becomes clear they are being followed by a very creepy scarecrow scare actor. The group divides and the scarecrow slowly hunts Rory. She thought he was just an average scare actor but his sinister and deadly actions prove differently. The mysterious scarecrow catches his prey and oh so slowly seduces her to his darkness. This book had me holding my breath with anticipation. The slow torturous cat and mouse game these two played created so much tension. Rory and her scarecrow were so utterly obsessed with eachother. They were in tuned with each other and connected on such a deep level. Check out this bloody book if you are looking for a Halloween story with a corn maze, serial killer MMC, predator and prey, axe play, sexy times next to a corpse, slow building sexual tension and a steamy thriller romance.
Stalk is an erotic horror novella that brought us on Rory’s, the FMC, descent into the darkness that’s calling to her! This book was an absolute blast that I read in one sitting.
The book follows Rory as she and her friends are going through the haunted corn maze at her towns Halloween festival. While going thru the maze her friends begin getting stalked by a scare actor dressed up like a scarecrow and eventually get separated. The book focuses on Rory as she slowly embraces her darkness with a little help from a scarecrow!
Overall this book was such a fun time and it’s perfect for anyone who wants a little scare with their spice!
As Autumn's cold fingers brush against the last remnants of summer, the sleepy town of Mistletoe Falls comes alive with vibrant colors of red, orange, and yellow. Children with rosey cheeks enjoy the fresh air and coming cold as parents and townspeople bustle around as the Autumn Harvest festival is in full swing. Parents, teenagers, and children flock to enjoy the smells of hot dogs and cotton candy on the rides of the carnival.
Straight up, this book was a little darker than I like my chase-y chase Halloween books. I mean, I liked the corn maze. I liked the masked man (who was nicely creepy). The stalking through the maze was nicely done. However, I wasn't enamored of what the masked man was capable of? Or what Rory did? Once he unlocked the darker side of her? (Sorry, I'm mentally working my way through this as I type.)
I guess it comes down to me liking a slightly lighter masked men book. The books itself was good (although a little repetitive with both Rory and Scarecrow really driving home how she'd crossed and line and was his) and there were elements I liked, but I'm not a huge fan of the more horror-esque portions. (And if you ever want a good laugh, watch me watch a horror movie through my fingers. It's a thing. I own it.)
To each their own, though. So if this is what you like, enjoy!
I honestly don’t know what I just read. Stalk: A Dark Halloween Romance was definitely not what I expected, but that’s not a bad thing.
Rory, the main character, is absolutely wild, and her growth throughout the story was quite a journey. The scarecrow character is a total force to be reckoned with. Stalker vibes, masks, cat-and-mouse games… yes, please.
At just 111 pages, it’s the perfect quick Halloween read. I enjoyed the author’s writing style, and I liked that the pet names weren’t excessive (which really annoys me). The spice? It’s definitely there. Some of it crosses into taboo territory, so be prepared.
I will say that some parts felt repetitive, likely because most of the story takes place over a single night, but it still kept me hooked. I literally couldn’t stop reading.
Rory goes to a festival with her friends. They enter the haunted corn maze. They come across a scare crow. He isn’t like the other scare actors. Rory gets separated from her friends. She stumbles onto a corpse. The scarecrow comes out of the corner and forces her to give him a blowie. He steps back into the corner. She runs and again comes across a corpse. He again reappears for more sexy playtime.
Come to find out it is a local, Jude, and has been stalking her for years. He knew she had darkness in her like him. He was just waiting and abiding his time for it to emerge.
There were several phrases and exact sentences that were repeated over and over and over. It was annoying and made me question if I was reading the same page again.

The first 43% of this book i LOVED. It was scenic, atmospheric, enticing, delicious fall goodness leading into spooky scary goodness. And then the next 10-12% could have literally been two pages. It was the most repetitive thing I've ever encountered. The same four moments/words/feelings repeated over and over. Sometimes one paragraph was even the same sentence repeated in inverse. By then I read the rest of the book and enjoyed certain moments but by then it was killed for me.
This was definitely unique, definitely showed a strong start, and could've been so much better... if the author just hadn't repeated the same 4-5 sentiments over and over and over until I was physically rolling my eyes. 3 stars for originality, darkness, sm@t, and the first 43% of the book.
- predator + prey - serial killer - insta-lust - stalking - knife play - blood as lube - questionable axe usage
Stalk is a dark and twisted erotic horror novella perfect read for spooky season.
Super Short, Spicy , Suspenseful, And The Fall / Halloween Vibes all were so good. Fast Paced. Very Detailed. Eerie Atmosphere.
If you’re after something quick, spicy, and spine-tinglingly fun before Halloween, this heart-pounding read has you covered! I would’ve loved a deeper glimpse into the MMC and maybe a peek into their future, but for a short read, this one absolutely delivered.
This was a sinfully delicious little morsel of Halloween goodness that I enjoyed tremendously. It was filled with creepiness, stalking, terror, violence, blood and smut had an ending that was incredibly satisfying but left me craving more!
“You enjoy being mine, little rabbit. My prey. My target. My kill. There’s nowhere you can go that I won’t find you.”
I was enthralled, on the edge of my seat, and enjoying the unhinged characters and their amazing connection. I devoured every morsel and could not get enough of the Scarecrow or Rory.
This was a short little smutty erotic horror story that takes places in a corn field. Now, I love me a good creepy corn maze story but add in a sadistic, body built like the gods, scare actor hellbent on chasing a single girl and I am hooked! I also like how she was starting to cross over the line of her sanity, thinking about playing with the bloody corpses as she came across them.
This was a good short novella perfect for spooky season, but if you’re like me, you’d end up reading stories like this all year round. So, I anticipate what’s next from Hedley Hallow because this was a delectable taste!
Looking for a short Halloween dark romance novella?
Stalk is a dark, twisted thrill ride — equal parts horror and heat, set in the perfectly eerie backdrop of a Halloween corn maze. Salem Sinclair doesn’t hold back, diving headfirst into themes of obsession, fear, and forbidden desire. The atmosphere is thick with dread, and the tension between predator and prey pulses on every page.
This isn’t your typical dark romance — it’s rough, raw, and unapologetically taboo. Rory is a gritty heroine, and the scarecrow? Creepy, stalking, yet impossible to look away from.
If you’re craving something dangerous and dirty this spooky season, Stalk delivers.
Stalk Hedely Hallow ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️ “Just keep breathing, rabbit. I’d still fuck you if you stopped breathing, but I’d prefer you alive,” That was certainly an interesting way to get a 🔪 deeper into a body 😂 This was a good read. Dark and unhinged. It is in third person, so that’s something to note. It’s suspenseful and keeps you entertained, it’s niceee and spicy to 🥵 “I can feel it in the way you shake. You enjoy being mine, little rabbit. My prey.” A kiss. “My target.” Kiss. “My kill.” Another. “There’s nowhere you can go that I won’t find you.”
nothing like being chased through a corn maze and f*cked stupid by a scarecrow 🫦
spooky, intense, stabby, and overall just attention-snatching - this was absolutely everything I needed for this spooky season.
I'll be honest and admit that I wasn't expecting anything truly scary, but it genuinely had me on the edge of my seat during the ✨️ hunt ✨️
that being said, I devoured this the same night I received it and immediately dove into pinterest to make my vision board because a rr right after would've been a little overkill (even for me)
I’m not sure how to process what I just read. It started off thrilling, but also went way beyond weird and inappropriate. The main character is essentially performing sexual acts on a serial killer who is offing people in the corn maze. It was freaking weird that she decided to run away with the guy, too. There’s also a scene where the MC sits on a blade lodged into a murder victim and rides it like she’s riding d while staring into the dead man’s eyes. What. The. F. Like, if this were a spoof, I would give it five stars…but it’s a serious read.
Please be sure to check the content warnings for this one.
⭐⭐⭐.5/5
What to Expect: ••» Novella ••» Predator/Prey ••» Stalking ••» Touch Her & Die ••» Serial Unaliver
Stalk is a dark, twisted, erotic horror novella that tantalizes as much as it terrifies—the perfect, eerie finale for my spooky season lineup!
From the dedication to the content warnings, this one hooked me right away—it’s reason enough to dive in. If you’re after something quick, spicy, and spine-tinglingly fun before Halloween, this heart-pounding read has you covered! I would’ve loved a deeper glimpse into the MMC and maybe a peek into their future, but for a short read, this one absolutely delivered.
A perfect, spooky erotic horror that really hit the spot for me and I will likely never look at another scarecrow the same way again. Hedley’s writing in this novella is so fantastic and she was really able to give me the imagery and character emotions needed to make me feel like I was right there in the maze with Rory, running for my life. Again, this is an erotic horror, so be sure and check those warnings before you pick up if you are one that needs to and be prepared for some very spicy scenes that will have you wanting to find the nearest maze.
Stalk was a master piece and I hope like hell there’s a book two. This book follow a Scarecrow and a group of friends that go through a haunted corn fields scare maze. We find out Scarecrow has a name but, I won’t spoil it. you will find out. Rory is not an easy scare or so she thought. Accompanied by her friends they thought they would get through the maze easy, but the maze and scare crow has other thoughts! This was a spooky fun time. And like I said please book two! (: thank you!
So, wtf have I actually just read? This is the second book I read by the author, and I keep loving the smut and gore levels she puts in her writing. In Stalk, the plot is secondary to the explicit content, but I was down for it! Not the most Christmas-y novella (as I write this, it's Dec 28th), but that's exactly what I needed. If you want to read a very dark and horrific 90-something-page romance book with an unhinged MMC and a darker FMC, do yourself a favor and read this!
Def check your TW’s for this one… very good masked stalker in a never ending type of corn maze trope. Rory finally realizes she’s just as twisted as her stalker is, but what does he want from her? Would they have any type of future together? - this is heavy on the possessive stalker who constantly reiterates ‘you’re mine’ and ‘you belong to me’. Spice 4/5.
