When a world war becomes a personal vendetta… death is the only winner…
After a devastating attack by a downed Japanese aircraft, Art Turner and the men of Bull Shark try to forget and relax in the rustic Western Australian port of Fremantle. Yet war is never far away, and the battle cry once more draws the submarine into danger.
Uncle Charlie Lockwood has a special side mission for Art Turner. A British commando needs to get to Timor and reunite with the Australian guerrilla fighters he’s trained… and who he was forced to leave behind when the Japanese invaded. Due to lack of manpower, however, several men from turner’s crew must make certain the vital equipment gets where it needs to go.
Riddled with guilt and anger, Art Turner decides that he’s not about to leave his men in someone else’s hands. Against doctrine and against advice, their Captain is going in with his men… leaving Elmer Williams in command… where a deadly surprise lurks just offshore.
Surrounded by enemies on all sides, the sailors ashore and the sailors aboard Bull Shark must not only fight but outthink clever and bloodthirsty enemies. Plans within plans unwind as personal grievances threaten to spill over in rivers of blood!
Guns thunder, torpedoes scream and rifles crack in this tension-filled Naval thriller

I gave this book a 5 because I like the series; however with three glaring grammar and spelling errors in Chapter 26, I typically would not do that. Starting off, the first words in the chapter were “Raise the village.” That should have been “Raze”. A little bit later the word “Road” should have been “rode” and a few paragraphs later the word wishing was spelled “whishing. Was chapter 26 just not edited? I’ve read all the books in the series and this is the first time I’ve caught errors. They’re too good for such errors. Keep writing the books but improve the editing.
Scott Cook is an excellent story teller, for my taste.
I find my understanding of geography in the South Pacific, Indian, and Australian waters is improved as the Bull Shark, and other books set the stage for the stories therein. Highly recommended
Sometimes, I have to question the storyline and wish I could jump ahead to make sure the Bull Shark and crew are safe. But I don't I continue to let Scott pull me further in and make me turn page after page . His character development always makes his books a joy to read.
I really like the series and am a fan of the characters. This one was tough, because of the mental trauma and I hated seeing a favorite character go through it. But in a book about war, unpleasant truth is the way of it. I know Art will be ok, but I shed a few tears, biased as I am I recommend the whole series
Excellent plot line, dynamic dialogue, very good character development. Only a few nits to pick, for example, a WWII era Colt 1911 held seven (7) rounds in the magazine. Eight round mags only came out much later in the 20th century. Some homonym confusions also jarred a bit. Still, kudos to Cook.
Continuation of a generally excellent series. This book was very much about the emotional impact of prior combat on the main character. Continued adventures of the Bull Shark were almost an afterthought.
The bull shark series has be been a great read if you enjoy naval war fiction, some read scot t Jarvis book 7 until after the bull shark series is over, spoiler in there.
What great story. I stayed hooked and couldn't put it down. I got so involved I finished the book without realizing it. I hope this series continues for a long time.
WOW! Every book gets better and better. This is Avery complex book with action taking place not only at sea several times but also on land. Both fast moving stories.
Again,as always, Mr. Cook provides an action filled war thriller with passion and human feelings. Scott Cook makes the reader feel the sadness of what a war costs. Great book!
I have read all previous 8 books of the series and this one is the best yet. It's bold, it's raw and it's gritty. The author his this one out of the park.
On land and at sea, action galore. Still very stressed by his recent losses, the Captain charges into a very dangerous assignment. This is a lively episode in this often good series
