But the horrors in Los Angeles are just a foretaste of what has long since become reality in distant Ulan-Ude in the city, sealed off by the Russian military, is lost and with it all its inhabitants. Jenna is one of the last survivors, determined to find out at what has happened there and what machinations are driving the secret organization she is hunting. She doesn't have much time, because Russia wants to get rid of the contamination once and for all.

Joshua T. Calvert has traveled the world--on foot, by Jeep, by bicycle, by motorcycle, and lots of other ways besides. As you might imagine, he's seen many things most people never see - including an Iranian prison cell, from the inside! In Kyrgyzstan, he fared slightly better, narrowly avoiding being kidnapped for ransom. Skydiver, scuba diver, martial artist, adventurer - his goal is to experience everything possible, and then make it real to you in his books. And he's made a good run of it so far: in the Philippines, he did police training on multiple types of firearms (despite being no fan of guns himself); dove in Asian waters among sharks and shipwrecks; and patrolled with Sumatran jungle rangers.

That's what defines Calvert's approach to method writing: pushing himself beyond his own limits, to experience first-hand what his characters experience, to make your immersion in his stories as deep as it can be.

For Ganymede Rises, after a slight detour with some smugglers in the deserts of Uzbekistan and the steppes of Mongolia, he traveled by dogsled and snowshoe to the Arctic Circle to experience first-hand what it's like to be utterly isolated in the coldest place on Earth. For his book The Fossil, he sat with professional pilots in flight simulators for Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft to learn what it's like to fly a passenger jet. His latest adventure: a parabolic flight with European Space Agency astronauts, to experience zero-gravity. All so he can describe it to you, in his own words.

Boy, did you go astray on this one. It’s like you wanted to take advantage of the zombie craze to sell more books. I had to really push myself to finish this one. It was sad to see Branson turn into a wackadoodle

Deserves the hard earned #1 rating

The Meteor 3 is the continuation of the series evolving around an abnormal object in space. Book 3 provides some answers, which I won't ruin for you, and ends with many new questions and problems ie the ISS sustaining serious damage making it maybe impossible to investigate Cassandra AND make it home. I can't overstate just how good this series is, it has significant parallels to Jeff VanderMeer's brilliant 'Southern Reach' trilogy, that's a huge compliment. Book 4 can't come fast enough!

Great story. Keeps you reading to see what happens next, but can be frustrating because it's hard to tell who is winning. Still don't know completely what is going on. There seems to be three sides, the establishment( governments and Security agencies of the major nations), the Bad guys(mysterious group who seem to know whats going on) and the heroes of our story who are at odds with and get used by the other two groups and suffer accordingly. I'm hopeful this story will have a good ending as there seem to be a lot of people dying needlessly.

Great long story

The story of The Meteor could have been crammed into a single book, but it would have lost all of its delicious flavors in the process. It’s a crazy story with rich characters, mysterious storylines, and just enough plot twists to keep you on your toes! I’m here for it all and can’t wait to read the last installment!

Still an excellent series and deserving of the 4 stars. It lost 1 star for me with the zombie angle which at times just made no sense at all. I sort of got the reason behind it, but in terms of the overall story it just did not quite fit for me - just too farfetched. I guess book 4 will shed some mor light.

Book three is little more than a linking stage between two and four. Getting a bit far fetched and not much story. Oh well, I am sure book four will be better and tie this all together.

I really enjoy reading science fiction and find this series quite entertaining. I like the definitions and character explanations at the end of the book and am looking forward to Meteor 4!

I think the plot changed from what was first envisaged to something I'm not sure what. An asteroid and a fungus from an early source don't quite jel.
