Thanks to Hallie for sending me a copy of her book in return for an honest review.

This isn't my usual genre of book, but it sounded intriguing, and I was very happy to give it a read and see what I thought about it. And let me tell you something - it was gOOOOOOOOd!

It's a bit difficult to review without spoiling it so bear with me.

It's got everything to keep you keen - romance, thriller, fantasy, action, supernatural.

It has almost 50 chapters which means they are relatively short, and I much prefer a short chapter. Especially in a book like this as it adds to the frantic nature of the characters and the plot.

We have "normal" people, mystical magical people, and those who are somewhere in between, and they all work well. There are a lot of them, and so I won't go into detail about them because we'll be here till next Christmas otherwise. But everyone is given enough of their own time to develop their individual stories as well as their place in the wider story. There are goodies and baddies and those on the fence, ones I liked, ones I loved and ones I hated.

Grace is an interesting main character. She is lost and alone, but she has this inner strength that seems to do her well, she just doesn't know how much she'll have to rely on that inner strength in the future. She felt very real - which seems funny in a book about Celestials and the Underworld - but you could see her being an everyday person caught up in this magical war. It starts off as her story, and whilst she is probably still the key player, we do get to follow others in their story, and it ends up being quite even in terms of who we focus on.

It is sooooo addictive. I thought I'd read a little bit before bed and before I knew it I was 1/4 of the way through and hooked! I read it in less than a day, I just couldn't put it down.

There were twists and turns and surprises, left, right and centre, with some drawing audible gasps and even tears from me, which doesn't happen all that often with books.

It is so rich and layered, full of depth. The work Hallie must have done to get all the details just right is very impressive.

Of course there is nothing bad or lesser about self-publishing or indie publishing, but it is an unfortunate truth that they generally don't get the promotion that big published books do, and so people miss out. But this is as good as any fantasy book on the shelves of major bookstores today, and it thoroughly deserves its place alongside them.

I believe this is the first book in a series and I really hope it is a long series. I want to stay with Grace on this new journey and am really looking forward to how Hallie continues it. I need book two, like, now. Or preferably yesterday. I will be keeping my beady eye out for the next installment.

What can I say about The Divinexus without spoiling the story for you? First of all the main character - Grace - is an absolute doll. Despite having... no, I can't say that, it's a spoiler. lol! Secondly, the supporting cast is well rounded, diverse, and like Grace, well written. There are even two adorable dogs - Beau and Henry - that regularly feature. Being an animal lover, their scenes were probably my favourite. Next up, the story, while being a classic good v evil story, has a suitable number of twists and turns to keep one hooked from the very beginning. And lastly, that ending!! Wow!! I certainly can't go into that without disclosing any spoilers. Long story short, go and read this book :)

A twisty and entertaining story

A book (and potential series) that could be made into a film. Discrete scenes, colourful characters, and lots of death and destruction.
The Divinexus has an epic good-versus-evil, gods-versus-the-underworld type of vibe, but it also has a modern slant, with lost and found family, and two cuddly dogs … which seem to be the only creatures that never get hurt. (Not surprising though - authors who write their own dogs into a story rarely have the heart to kill them). But, as for the other characters, everyone appears fair game.
A twisty and entertaining read. I enjoyed it.

As always, my reviews are spoiler free. I had the pleasure of exploring this new world a little earlier than other people.
So many intricate details that weave a magical tapestry together. The characters are so well written- so much acre has gone into creating a little world surrounding each character. This is what makes the story so special.
This is a great story with fantastic characters. There are lots of emotions and plot twists, that will leave you on the edge of your seat!
I can’t wait to see where book two takes us!

The MC of this supernatural dark fantasy is a well rounded likeable character named Grace. She is joined by a multitude of diverse characters including 2 dogs which I loved as it added to the qurkiness of the story. The characters are well rounded and I cared about what happens to them as I read on. Without giving too much away, the story is a typical good versus evil trope, a common narrative in fantasy. This works well with the various plot twists and a cracking ending. Well done Hallie!

The Divinexus is the first in a fantasy trilogy based on a supernatural realm where angels and demons clash. The plot rattles along nicely with some original ideas, as a battle between good and evil rages. Expect some twists and turns, and heartstrings to be tugged. Set up nicely for the sequels.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I can honestly say by the end of the very first chapter I was engrossed in this story, the author has that writing style that’s addictive.

Grace thinks she’s having the best day of her life and finally marrying her childhood sweetheart but then everything goes catastrophically wrong and life as she knows it will never be the same.

The whole story was fantastic, the mix of modern day and fantasy made it unique in a really original way, as a lot of fantasy books end up feeling the same but not this one.

I try to keep my reviews spoiler free so I can’t give too much away but believe me when I say you need to grab this book.
