This is more of a rant than a review, so if you’re a big fan of these new “cinematic style” novels, maybe skip this one.
I honestly don’t understand why BookTok hypes some of these books the way it does.
A few aesthetic shots, a handful of relatable one-liners, and suddenly the book becomes *the thing to read*..I don’t even know why I give these books chances after chances just to get disappointed..
The last new author I really enjoyed was with Ettavum Priyappetta Ennodu..mostly because the characters felt like real, everyday people I could connect with.
This book, though, left me wanting more. It could have been so much better if the love story had some actual depth. I don’t mind the whole “love at first sight” premise, but love usually grows from things like understanding, trust, and communication — none of which really happened between the main leads.
So, we’re supposed to believe the female protagonist waited ten years for the ML based on just a fleeting feeling? Only for it to end the way it did? Meh…
The climax especially felt rushed, almost like the author wasn’t sure how to wrap it up. & not giving a happy ending ( which they deserved by the way after all those unnecessary, unwanted, childish drama - remember the communication part.? Ah yeah.. ) because it might seem “cliche” doesn’t automatically make a story stronger.
Honestly, this one was already full of cliches and a well-done ending would have made it so much more satisfying.
Anyway, I think I’ll be taking a break from these “cinematic” stories for a while. & as for Mankind Publishers… let’s just say I’ll be steering clear of that shelf next time I browse..
Imma go back to MT.. Need to cleanse my palette with good writing before coming back to more “cinematic” ones so I can rant like this again..

Anuraga Lola Gathri by Juleya Thomas has a beautiful and catchy title, but the story doesn’t really match the hype. Many people were talking about this book and giving it so much attention, but after reading it, I honestly don’t understand why.The story starts with some promise — a journey, some romance, and emotional moments — but soon it becomes slow, repetitive, and predictable. There are very few interesting or strong scenes to hold the reader’s attention.
Anuraga Lola Gathri might look popular, but the story doesn’t deserve all that hype. It’s a weak, forgettable love story with little emotion or originality.
