In some ways, this one is more dark and effed up than the second book (there was one particular event, where something happens to Alessandro's body that made me hold the book at arm's length).

And yet in a lot of ways, it's less dark. There were glimpses of almost tenderness within its pages, and dare I hope that Alessandro will eventually find an emotional or romantic connection among all the debauchery and filth?
(Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the debauchery and filth. I just felt like it was starting to lean towards something more, and I'm here for it!)

Burr's writing is, as usual, on point. Creative and ghoulish, the setting of Hell is as much a character as any demon, and Burr never failed to surprise me with the depths of their imagination nor their ability to describe such fantastical nightmares as clearly as though it were in front of my own face. Bravo!

There is a part of me that craves the comfort of Heaven without God’s tyranny, but He was always a tyrant, and Heaven was never as soft as I believed it to be.

This one was such a rollercoaster; I’m not sure where to begin. It has both the peaks of the first installment and the issues of the second.

The first half is dense, but the second half is so beautiful and deep. It’s a shame the malleable reality is presented in some clichéd ways. This is demon smut; there are no limits, so I wanted more creativity.

I was also expecting more gore and less, ahm, that. No kinkshaming, just not my cup of tea. And, I did not see that it had content warnings, so I was truly surprised.

Particularly, I was disgusted for most of this. And it took me much longer to read than the first two volumes. But I get that monsterfucking can sometimes be borderline disgusting, hence the name.

I feel like the goal was to be discomforting—and Burr nailed it—but it’s weird to be so unsettled for more than half of this, and in the end, bask in the warm rays of poetic blasphemy, gorging on one of the best takes on Christian mythology I’ve ever seen.

The setting is really well done. Burr’s writing has a very distinct tone that shows his background in Classics. I love it very much. It’s inspiring how much depth he can pack in something that at first glance is no more than a fuckfest.

Even though this is a debauched journey through hell and its twisted pleasures, consent is still present all the way, and that's such a good vibe. And how that plays with Alessandro's character development, Jesus, it nearly made me cry. Amazing. I can’t praise this arc enough.

“...slowly, like the first hint of snowfall, a flake drifting to the ground…” This is a description of a demon whose name can also mean “flaking”, and I was astonished at the insane work. I am clapping right now. This is the quality that Burr can deliver, and it’s what has me devouring his works with such hunger.

Let us show God together why pleasure and sin and temptation is the way to live. Let us revolt against His tyranny for eternity.

no, but truly — it was sinfully delicious! say what you will, but artful smut and sacrilege go hand in hand... it's a wickedly divine combination!

purely in terms of plot, there’s nothing particularly original or groundbreaking in the premise: a priest’s descent into ruin, a journey through hell, and a string of (extreme) sexual encounters with demons of various ranks, culminating in his submission/devotion to asmodeus. but the execution? it was depicted so compellingly and with such lush, immersive atmosphere! u g h--

i savored every moment of alessandro’s descent — each encounter, each escalation, each surrender. his path wasn’t just one of lust, but of confrontation with his fear, his faith, his longing. there was something raw and almost reverent in the way his desires and discoveries were allowed to unfold. it was indulgent, decadent, and utterly unapologetic in the best possible way! what made the journey even more enthralling, though, was how distinct each demon felt — not just in appearance, but in temperament, rhythm, and appetite; their desires, their demands, even the way they looked at him.

start to finish, it was an absolute feast — intense, atmospheric, and wildly satisfying. can't wait to see how the narrative evolves from this point on!

I can't believe I read three of these

If you ever thought to yourself "I love Dante inferno but I wish there was more smut" than boy are you in for a treat!

I kind of light that this one was longer and a little more in-depth. We go through different levels (fractions?) and meet more demons. It's pretty cool and interesting. I would have rated it higher if not for the one chapter with the Raven King but not the Raven King. I'm a simpleton and didn't understand half of what he was saying.

I'll be honest, I don't know where these books are going or this is a journey I want to continue. If the fourth one is the final one, I'll probably check it out. If it's not then I got a bow out. There's only so much demon erotica you can read before it gets a little repetitive and a little pointless.

The descriptions of hell are even better in this book. I could feel how eerie and strange it was. I feel that a lot of Christian references went over my head, since my knowledge of this religion is practically nonexistent.

This book was the most interesting of the three. It explores different types of twisted pleasure. Some scenes were definitely uncomfortable to read, but Furfur was a nice surprise.

Now I wonder how Alessandro will evolve before meeting Asmodeus again.

it’s truly a shame that lucien burr’s amazing ability at prose is being wasted on writing torture porn involving literal prolapse.

this book series would be ten times better if it just revolved around alessandro and olivero because those small crumbs between them were the only thing that kept me fighting the urge to pour bleach in my eyes while reading this.

With this being the only dark romance (smut, honestly) series I've read, I don't really know what to expect or how to rate it.

I found the shock value to be overused by this point which doesn't give me hope for the last two in the series.

However, the writing in this one is far superior to the writing in the previous novellas.

I do want to see Alessandro's journey to its end, but I just hope it's not a shock-value slog.

This one is a lot more mental than the others. Even though we have a great deal of information on Alessandro and we already know the type of person he is, we get more. Which is crazy cause he is definitely a mind rambler. His inner monologue goes on and on but it’s not overwhelming. I think this is my favorite so far and I pray that the reunion with his lord doesn’t disappoint.

i was not expecting a subby ex-priest to be so relatable with his doubts and insecurities, but here we are. the sex is more intense in this one, and i may have realized my lines were not quite where i thought they were. i found myself wishing these books were longer, if only to give us more insight on the demons alessandro faces and their motives beyond their own pleasure in serving asmodeus.

What sex was doing to the protagonist was interesting, the whole visceral details about anatomy being rearranged? It wasn't bad, don't get me wrong. I just feel like this little plot can hardly support a conversation about sexuality and trauma of this calibre.
I'll probably read the next book too though.
