Ten years ago, Captain William Nagy was stripped of his officer commission alongside millions of other sailors, a result of the great mothball that the government had implemented in order to save money. He now spends his days wasting away at his favorite joint, The Shiny Moon bar.
One day however, he and his crew are called back into service, at the behest of an Admiral who wishes to clandestinely act upon disturbing new intelligence that had just been received by the Office of Naval Intelligence. With an unorthodox crew and a ship that has seen better days, William sets off to investigate.
William and his crew will quickly learn that there is more to this mission than meets the eye.
They say you need to attract the reader in the first chapter, the first pages, the author failed in my opinion. The dialogue was trite, the descriptions boring, I don't need a description that uses several sentences to describe opening a door and walking down a hall while nothing happens, the conversations with the whore were silly, the attempt at the science which it seems is many long pages away was off base from the start, I wasn't confident the rest would be any more accurate, so I've ended the reading and catagorized as maybe if I'm really desperate. I'm sure some out there will enjoy it, just not me Enjoy
I hope that the "Boys Own" style of writing was intentional, otherwise, well...... Character titles and functions used to an annoying extreme. Almost total misuse of verb tenses. The whole style of writing jars to an almost painful level. I will not be looking for the sequel.
This author is the master of the run-on sentence and has invented a totally new way of punctuating conversations. There may be other deficiencies; I don’t know because I couldn’t stand to read more than a few pages.
The author presents several interesting ideas relating to human civilization in the galaxy of the future. My biggest complaint is that the book ends with no closure, and there is no mention of another book being written to continue the story.
Despicable characters in a despicable Universe, DNF chapter 8. Not believable, possibly a satire on Maga to make the current politics more palatable? Purchased this edition on May 10, 2025, from Amazon for free. Kindle Book, read with the Alexa audio assist application.
A bit different space opera by Paul Haedo. A "good" AI, a ship crewed by hookers and old veterans! Looking forward to the further adventures of the Shiney Moon.
