Thanks Libro.FM for access to this ALC!
A broad overview of dragons throughout history and across the world, written for 7-10 year olds who might want to learn more about their favorite fantasy monsters. It included interesting tales from mythology, though the order seemed like an interesting choice when you end up revisiting the same characters/settings multiple times earlier and later in the book when you could have shared them one after the other (ie. Heracles). But I appreciated the shout out to some of the modern renditions like Dragon Ball Z, Pokémon, and Dungeons & Dragons! In audiobook form, it had whimsical and evocative music accompanying the narration.

While I liked the variety of dragons and dragon-like creatures represented here, especially that it included non-western dragons, I listened to the audiobook and I don't think it works without the illustrations. The descriptions are very short. I would aim this at readers in 2nd-4th grade, so too young for my students. Thanks to Libro.FM for a free educator's copy of the audiobook.

Skimmed. Colorful browsable book on dragons from cultures around the world. The author and illustrator include information on dragons as real creatures, in legends and fables, through stories, and even in video games and anime. Vivid full-color illustrations on every page.

I received a free copy from libro.fm as part of the educator audiobook listening copies. All opinions are my own. #librofm #macmillanaudio.

This is a pretty good book for the intended audience I think. If a middle grade student is looking for more information about dragons, this has a little of everything at a very basic level. It is in bite size chunks as far as I can tell so they could dip in and out of it at their leisure. It wasn't something that I enjoyed overly much, but it was a decent beginner book about dragons of mytholoy.

As someone who has always been a huge fan of anything with dragons, this was a very interesting book filled with myths, legends, and modern examples of my favorite creatures. I would have loved reading this book as a child, although listening to it in audiobook form was a bit confusing. Overall, it was an imaginative journey through different culture’s iterations of dragons over the centuries.
