Sophie Bowns starts off with a beautifully written retelling of The Prince of Egypt. Her ode to the relationship between Ramesses and Moses is triumphant and a pleasure to read. Her knowledge and poetic skill weaves a wonderful tale surrounding two of history's most notable people. She follows this up with several other poems, retelling tales of some well-known fairytale figures and a person with scissors for hands. If you love poetry, and imaginative stories retold, do yourself a favor and pick up this book!

love this!!!

This book totally surprised me—in a good way. This story is a mix of short stories that all connect and I loved slowly figuring out how the characters’ lives were linked. Some parts are magical, some emotional, and a few hit pretty hard. Sophie Bowns has a really gentle way of writing tough stuff, and her characters feel real, even when the stories get a bit dreamy. As always I love her work!!

Of the many tales that were retold in poetic form, my favorites were the story of Ben and Mal and the retelling of Edward Sissorhands. Although I enjoyed the others, these two really spoke to me.
