Emory

I’ve been on my own my entire life. I rely on myself and no one else. It’s the code I live by, the only way I’ve been able to survive my lonely life. As an social media influencer, I drive around the country in my restored hippy van with my dog and all of my belongings. I’m free, not tied down in any way. Any time I’ve tried to plant roots before, someone has come along and cut the stems off. Jude Winslow seems different. His whole family is different than anything I ever experienced in foster care. I know I can trust my own, but what about his heart?

Jude

I’ve spent the past decade caring for my aging grandmother and three, orphaned younger sisters. Between my family obligations and my job as a mechanic at the family garage, I don’t have the time or energy for a love life. Then I meet the voluptuous Emory Travis and everything changes. You might think that I’d be glad she’s so independent, but instead, I find myself wishing she needed me. I know she’s the one for me, but how can I convince this perfect, strong, stubborn woman I’m the guy for her?

Kat is my go to when I need a feel good with a side of hotness story. Jude and Emory’s story was so sweet. Emory has built herself an independent life but also has built strong walls to protect her heart. Jude instantly knows that Emory is his. Jude was so tender and patient he was with her fears. Can he help her overcome her abandonment fears? Loved all the wisdom, humor, sibling banter, sizzle and love in this HEA story!.

Why are her heros amazing?

Jude, Jude, Jude. I wonder where I can get a Jude for myself. I loved him. He was a brother and a single dad. Which I find so hot. Love the story and loved Emory!

Body-positive advocate and traveler Emory is stranded on a rainy Texas roadside when her van breaks down. Local tow-truck driver Jude (H) comes to her aid and is immediately captivated by her sass and strength. Despite their initial clash, Jude offers more than just help with her van, he provides a glimpse into his devotion to family and his charm begins to chip away at Emory’s carefully constructed walls. Emory, who has long relied only on herself, finds her self-reliance challenged by Jude’s earnest desire to take care of her. Their connections grows amidst moments of humor, heated arguments, and tender vulnerability. Forced together by a rare Texas snowstorm, Jude takes Emory and her dog, Rosie, into his cabin where their connections builds and things heat up. Together, they navigate the challenges of their pasts, the uncertainty of their future, and their undeniable chemistry. Hot and steamy instalove, age gap, blue collar, curvy girl, small town romance, exploring love, connection, independence, insecurities, taking chances, overcoming challenges, and family.

I received this as an arc from the author and I’m voluntarily leaving my honest review.

This was such a great forced proximity romance. It was a short, steamy story with lots of humor and warmth. It was well written and just what I needed. Jude and Emory had an instant connection and though she tried to guard her heart, their chemistry overcame her resistance and I loved it.

Van Repair

Emory and Jude meet when her van breaks down and she needs it to be repaired. Their chance meeting was full of chemistry but her walls will take some time to get through. I loved the moments they spent getting to know each other. It was a short yet exhilarating read.

I loved Emory and Jude so much. These two gave me big meant-to-be vibes and I fell for them hard and fast. Double helpings of sweetness and spice are delivered at a fast pace that delivers a romance that is as heartwarming as it is emotional.

When Emory wants to stay at the local campsite Jude's sister tells her they're all booked up, so his sister asks him if Emory can stay on their land. Jude tries to asks Emory if she'd like to stay with them, they have an extra room but Emory thinks that would be to weird. The next day Jude helps Emory by taking her shopping, she usually heads to a grocery store when she gets to a new town, but since she blew out her tire she couldn't. Jude's sister's try to get him to invite Emory to dinner but she declines. Jude's sister's Sofia, Aria, and Juliette insist he go and talk to her and convince her to come in for dinner. I received a free copy of this book that I am voluntarily reviewing.

Emory has only ever really been able to rely on herself after growing up within the care system she has seen firsthand how hard it is to trust how easy people give up on love. There is only one person that she can truly say gave her anything for nothing and that was Buck, he taught how to make something out of nothing and set her off on the right track when he taught her about engines. Emory has built a life that she is proud of travelling around the country in her VW van Lola that she restored herself and her dog Rosie, through the wonder of social media she has a job as an influencer and now has some big sponsors. Nothing can be done though when she experiences a blow out on her front tire and knows that she will need a tow, she wasn’t expecting Jude or the way that he makes her feel from the moment they meet and when she is drawn into his life she sees that family can really exist but is she ready to let her guard down and stay or will she turn her back and go straight back on the road?

Jude had lost his parents over ten years ago and with three younger sisters there was only ever really one choice and that was family, he put his life on hold and did what he needed to do to make sure that they were happy, not once has he ever regretted his decision and would do it all again in a heartbeat. He had been hoping for a quiet night when he is called out to a tow of a small RV and meets Emory. He is captured by her from the first moment and when he learns of her vlog, he soon discovers the woman behind the tough exterior. Jude knows that she isn’t just a nobody, but she is his everything. Can Jude convince to risk it all on him for love and a family or will he have to watch her drive away from all he wants to give her and take his heart with her?

This was a special story that had me from the start, Emory was a main female character to be proud of, she has worked for all that she has and with all that she has lost could easily have chosen a different path. Jude was just as strong and his love for his family was something that we all wish for. Highly recommended sweet and steamy read. 4*

Emory e Jude

Kat Baxter proves you don’t need mafia bosses, bikers or shifters to create a truly captivating romance. All you need is a man like Jude—a guy who wears his heart on his sleeve and knows from the get-go that you’re the one. Jude is the whole package and then some. After a decade of selflessly raising his three younger sisters following their parents’ untimely passing, Jude’s never once regretted putting his own life on hold. But when a tow call introduces him to Emory, a fiery, self-reliant spitfire, his world gets turned upside down in the best way possible. Emory’s story tugged at my heartstrings. Growing up in the foster system, she’s learned to depend on no one but herself. As a free-spirited social media influencer, she’s on a solo adventure across the country in her meticulously restored van, Lola, accompanied by her adorable dog, Rosie. Past disappointments have left her skeptical of love, and though she feels an undeniable spark with Jude, she’s hesitant to let him in. Jude’s sisters are absolute gems. Their enthusiasm for Emory’s blog and their warm, welcoming energy made me ache for Emory, who wished she had a family like theirs. And Jude himself—he was a dream come true. His sincerity and unwavering belief in Emory’s strength were underscored by his equal determination to show her that life’s burdens were easier to bear when shared. Kat Baxter has a rare gift for making love-at-first-sight feel utterly genuine and never forced. Jude and Emory’s relationship blossoms with a natural, heartfelt rhythm that makes you believe in the magic of love. By the end, you’ll be smiling from ear to ear, rooting for their perfectly imperfect, wonderfully real happily-ever-after.

This was a really cute quick read and I enjoyed every page of it! 🩷

I absolutely loved Jude! He meets Emory for the first time when he comes to her rescue after her van breaks down and it's love at first sight, for him at least. For her it takes a bit longer but he is so sweet and would do anything for her which he showed in the scene after the power went out because of the snowstorm. I loved how he took care of both her and her dog in that scene.

One of my other favorite scenes from "Mr. McHunky" was when he caught her reading her romance book out loud to her dog, Rosie. By the way, there's a surprise at the end of Mr. McHunky that involves the book Emory is reading so be sure to read to the very last page.

One of my favorite lines/quotes was this one from chapter 6;

"His pale green-blue eyes peer at me and I have to look away after too many breaths. If I look at them for too long I get feelings in my stomach. Feelings that I don’t quite know what to do with. He is so hot, it’s just unfair."

But this one from chapter 9 as a bigger girl myself, I could really relate to Emory and what she was feeling and thinking in this moment.

"Don’t get me wrong, I acknowledge that I’m beautiful. It’s taken me a long time, but I’ve grown to love my ample curves. I’m soft and womanly like those women in the old paintings that had fleshy thighs and bellies. But I have also lived in my skin long enough to know that men who look like Jude do not find me sexy."

I LOVED this book and look forward to reading more of Kat's books including the next book of The Hotties of Saddle Creek series. 🙂

After aging out of foster care, she has built a life for herself on the road. She Chronicles her life, and shows tutorials on social media. When her beloved van breaks down, she is unprepared for the hot tow truck driver who picks her up. He has lived on the mountain his whole life, and after raising his three younger sisters he knows a little bit about women. And this particular woman is everything he didn’t know he was looking for. He knows she’s just there long enough for her van to be fixed, but he can’t help hoping he can convince her to stay. This is a short story format, so you do not expect to get overly detailed character development or complicated plot lines. The author does a really good job with character development, you have a strong sense of her what she’s overcome and the life she’s built for herself. You also not only get him but his three sisters, and how he raised them for the last 10 years since their parents death. He definitely falls first and hard. She is not used to trusting or having other people at her back, but she definitely knows there’s something special about him. This is actually a very sweet story. He is a super hunky book boyfriend, and would do anything for his lady. He brings the spice, he may be sweet and caring but he knows how to treat a lady right in all ways. They get their happily ever after, and even an epilogue with a glimpse into their future.

Emory is of the channel BeyondEmoryBoards. Lola is her VW van and she travels and lives in it with her Maltipoo, Rosie. Her van breaks down just outside Saddle Creek, TX. So she is towed into town by Mr. McHunky, Jude. They are instantly drawn to each other. But, Emory’s past is a tear jerker and Jude and his 3 sisters: Aria, Sofia, & Juliette’s past is too. I so needed the AC on and tissues! His sisters are crazy and hilarious as Jude is both father and brother to them. Both Emory & Jude have overcome so much. Emory is sassy to the extreme and the fact that she knows her way around a car like Jude is a mega turn on. The book is sweet, funny, sad, steamy & hot. His interactions with the women in his life is just heartwarming. Jude immediately knows that Emory is the one for him, he just needs to convince her of that. His sisters are addicted to Emory’s channel. She’s taught them so much, just as he has. Honestly, I kind of agree with Jude that the youngest, Juliette seems to be the sanest, but that is probably because she is the peacemaker. I love how the author threw another of her books in there, it made me laugh a lot because i recognized it from the excerpt. lol. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Mr. McHunky is Book 2 of The Hotties of Saddle Creek series. It's a short and steamy, instalove, forced-proximity, he falls first, OTT, opposites-attract, curvy girl gets her hunk romance. Emory is a sweet, fiercely independent, and curvy influencer who travels the country in her VW van, Lola, with her dog Rosie. She grew up in foster care and has a hard time letting people in. Jude is a hunky mechanic who raised his 3 younger sisters after his parents were killed when he was 20. He is so sweet with a heart of gold... talk about drool-worthy. When Emory's van breaks down, Jude comes to tow her van. The two are attracted to each other, but Emory thinks he's initially a jerk, but he loves her sass and instantly falls for her. Their banter is hysterical. She ends up staying on his property, and when a snowstorm hits, Jude knows he can't lose her. Will she let her walls down? Can Jude show her that he is all in? OMG, the chemistry between these two was pure fire. Jude might be the sexiest golden retriever ever and is totally a new book boyfriend. Holy hotness 😍🔥. We also ended on a very happy note. I can't wait for the next book in the series and loved the Marcus reference, lol. This was another hot and funny read from Kat. I loved it.

I absolutely LOVED this short romance by Kat!!!

This is a quick, cinnamon roll hero, he falls first, small age gap,BBW, sassy heroine, found family, instalove novella and it was so sweet!!!!!

Emory has had to grow up fast, and has also had to learn to depend on herself. She grew up in foster care, eventually meeting a grizzly old mechanic named Buck and learning everything she could about cars. She turned that into being a body positivity influencer #beyondemeryboards where she teaches women how to be independent and take care of themselves (in addition to doing makeup tutorials). She travels the south with her dog Rosie the Retreiver (named as a nod to Rosie the Riveter🤗) in her restored 1983 VW bus sue named Lola.

She breaks down with a tire blowout without a spare on a dark and rainy night in a small town in Texas and ends up meeting our hero Jude when he comes to tow her.

Jude has spent the last 10 years raising his 3 younger sisters after their parents died in a tragic accident.

Sparks are instantaneous!!!
Will Emery let him in?
It might take a little patience and possibly some help from Mother Nature to help Emery let her walls down…

This story is adorable!!!!.

I recently picked up Mr. McHunky by Kat Baxter, and I must say, it was a delightful experience! This book is part of the Hotties of Saddle Creek series, and it perfectly blends humor and romance in a way that kept me hooked from start to finish.

The story revolves around Jude, who is such a charming and relatable character. I loved how he balances his family responsibilities with his desire for love. His journey is both heartwarming and realistic, making it easy to root for him. The supporting cast adds a lovely dynamic, bringing plenty of laughs and warmth to the story.

Baxter’s writing style is fast-paced and filled with wit. The dialogue sparkles with playful banter that really enhances the chemistry between Jude and the other characters. I found myself laughing out loud at some of their interactions! The way Baxter captures both the light-hearted moments and deeper emotional themes is impressive.

While I did find some parts predictable—typical for romantic comedies—it didn’t take away from my overall enjoyment. The mix of humor and heartfelt moments made for a satisfying read. If you’re looking for a light-hearted escape with engaging characters and a touch of romance, I highly recommend giving Mr. McHunky a try!

3.5 stars. Emory, the female lead, was a foster child all her remembered childhood. Now an adult, she’s a female empowerment influencer, working to educate women on how to keep themselves safe and beautiful.

Jude, the male mechanic lead, raised his three sisters after their parents died in a car accident when he was twenty. His youngest sister is now nearly 18, and he’s not sure what he’s going to do when the responsibility is no more.

Coming out to tow Emory’s campervan, Jude is shocked to find the connection between them literally electric. But Emory has never been in a loving relationship and she’s sure she’s not suited for them…

This short story is dual POV, and a sweet and steamy, found family, romantic comedy. I enjoyed Emory’s genuine independence and empathised with her lack of understanding of relationships. I enjoyed Jude’s sincerity and his genuine desire to provide Emory the stability and love she’d never had. I enjoyed their developing relationship. I adored the interactions with and by Jude’s sisters.

An adorably and quirky romance story of a traveling influencer and the man who helps her out when she breaks down in his town. Sparks fly immediately and after a near brush with death they decide to act on their feelings. I loved the sisters in this story. They are a hoot, and I'd love to see each of them get their own book.

When Emory is caught reading the book club selection aloud by her van, I was think to myself that man this book sounds familiar and I think it was a story I enjoyed. That's because I had read it and it was Marcus from Kat Baxter. So duh, of course I loved it. Funny that I could remember the story from just that little excerpt.

Also, there was a quote towards the end of the book, that I just thought was absolutely beautiful. "Once I love someone, it’s a love that doesn’t go away. Besides, love isn’t an emotion, Peaches. It’s a decision. It’s a daily commitment to be there for the people who are your family. Whether they be family by blood, by marriage or any other choice.".

Looking for something quick then you grab the right book because you are putting it down until the last page has been turned. Jude sexy as all get out best big brother / father to three younger sisters after his parents passed away way too soon leaving him responsible for three younger sisters putting his life on hold wasn’t a bid deal it was hate he needed to do until his life takes a drastic turn in a good way and it is turned all upside down every which way. Emory is sweet but she didn’t have the best life growing up in foster care system which taught her to depend only on herself making it hard for her to accept help working as a social media influencer driving across country in her made over van with Rosie her loveable dog. She needs a tow and in comes sexy Jude although she tries the magnetic pull between them can’t be ignored add to that Rosie and his adorable sisters makes her see what family really means but will she understand believe in his unwavering determination to show her that love is real, will she get family she has always dreamed of in him along with his sisters, and have she found happiness while traveling around the world?

Jude is Emory and her dog’s hero wether she likes it or not. Takes them into his cabin no less . Is she impressed ? She was in an hippy van ,bet it even has a ceiling fan,it’s that old. She’s a social media influencer who drives around the country in her van she’d restored on the wide open road. She doesn’t plant roots she’s not had much luck with that truth be told . But Jude ? Well he’s the strong but not silent type. He’s different from all the rest she’ll admit but is he enough? This is it. His family is like no other she’s encountered before ,in the foster care system or other.Hes spent a decade caring for his elder as well as his three orphaned sisters he looks out for too. Got to give him his due . This lad works hard. He wishes that ms independent would rely on him just a little bit. Make his day would it. He knows she’s the one ,the hun for him. How can he make her want him? Lovely writing, by Kat Baxter as per the norm. Can he influence her decision and take a chance . Go on take a dance ,a twirl if you will. Have a thrill. Great storytelling and awesome characters each with their own layers to uncover.

Mr. McHunky is the second book in The Hotties of Saddle Creek series. I totally fell in love with this story about two people who find "themselves" and their place in Saddle Creek when they come together. Emory Travis grew up in the foster care system. But when she was young she found a man who became sort of a grandfather figure to here. He taught her all about cars, engines and how to fix things. He also left her a van that she fixed up and now she is driving around the US shooting videos for her social media channel, that she makes her money from. When her tires blows as she is outside Saddle Creek she calls for a tow truck. Who shows up is Jude Winslow. He is big, burly, grumpy, and very sexy. He is also a man who raised his three younger sisters when their parents were killed in an accident and he was twenty years old. Since then he has dedicated his energy and time to getting the girls through school and to the age of eighteen, when he is no longer legally responsible for them, even though he will always be responsible. One look between Jude and Emory and the sparks are flying...both sexy and spicy banter.

**Short Steamy Romance**

I always love a good, steamy short instalove story, especially one featuring a cinnamon roll hero and a sassy curvy girl.

Emory is a sassy, southern, curvy girl who has learned to depend on herself after living in foster care. She had a wonderful mentor named Buck who taught her everything about cars. Once she was old enough, she became a body positivity influencer and travels with her dog, Rosie, in her restored 1983 VW bus named Lola.

Jude has been raising his three younger sisters ever since their parents passed away in an accident ten years ago. They have been his main focus for so long.

The moment Jude meets Emory, he knows she is the one for him and wants nothing more than to take care of her. However, Emory is so used to taking care of herself. Will she be able to let her guard down and allow Jude in?

It was very well written, easy, and fun to read in one sitting. I am looking forward to reading more books in this series.

Jude has been the older brother/guardian of his three sisters since their parents died in a car accident. Thrown into this responsibility, Jude had little time for a social or love life with helping his sisters and work. Emory travels in her VW van named Lola with her dog, Rosie. She has her own channel in which she focuses on body positivity, beauty, and empowering women. Lola. With her tire blown, Jude is the tow truck driver to the rescue. When they meet, the feel a spark of energy. As they spend time together, the realize that they both found who they were looking for in each other.
This story kept me hooked as I loved the way Jude cared for his sisters and then Emory when he was needed. Emory’s back story of being in foster care and unsure about relationships made her doubt that she could be loved by a guy as hot as Jude.

What can I say about this ebook except fantastic. I couldn't put it down. I loved it. Emory has been on her own for a long while. Her tire blows out so she calls for a tow. Little does she know what awaits her when Jude, a hot hunk of a tow truck driver shows up and BAM! They have such an intense steamy connection and seem to fit perfectly together but will they? Can Emory overcome her fears of belonging to someone and having a family and can she stay in one place and trust that her heart will be cared for and cherished? Does Jude acknowledge that Emory is the one he's been waiting for all this time and does he get Emory to admit that she's his future? This exceptional author can add this outstanding 5 ⭐️ hit to her resume. So if it's witty banter, steamy passion, and family togetherness that gets your attention then I definitely recommend you get this witty steamy winner. You'll love it.

Emory grew up in the foster care system and had convince an old mechanic to teach her about repairing vehicles and she had inherited an old travel van in will. Now she travels the southern states doing podcasts about vehicle maintenance that women can do along what to watch for in repair bills. She has a tire blowout and has to call for a tow outside Saddle Creek, TX, during a rain storm. Image her surprise when a real hot guy arrives to help.Jude, the tow driver, has also been the guardian for his 3 younger sisters starting 10 years ago when their parents died in an accident; the youngest sister will turn 18 in 3 months. He is attracted to Emory, but she doesn't trust people and relationships. Can Jude convince her to trust him? Would she consider staying in Saddle Creek? Will his sisters help or hurt his case?.

The Hotties of Saddles Creek are here with firepower!

I love the man Jude is. He's a brother, a parent, a overrun brother, mechanic, and new obsessed with traveling van owner, Emory. He might pick her up after a blown tire she can't fix herself this time, but he is diving in headfirst.

Emory is headstrong, smart, laid back, and driven to make her dreams come true. She mades the influencer life work for her, along with her pup Rosie and van Lola.

It felt right that Jude has been overrun by his little sisters he's raised, and after bringing Emory home they are fan crazy, in a good way. These two seem to take a hot minute to connect, but it certainly sparks into a wildfire. They both feel the connection and aren't long into giving in, but what a sweet way to go.

This has your hotties, humor, sass, light, and spicy steam you can't get enough of. Its a HEA worthy of re-reading!

Love these men of Saddle Creek. Emory is the host of the channel BeyondEmoryBoards. Lola is her VW van and she travels and lives in it with her Maltipoo, Rosie. When her van breaks down just outside Saddle Creek, TX, Mr. McHunky Jude is the tow truck driver that shows up to rescue her.

While on the outside he is pierced, tatted and full of muscle. On the inside he is a golden retriever who has been taking care of his 3 sisters since his parents passed away. Emory has never had family to rely on so it takes her a minute to warm up to the kindness of Jude & his sisters. I loved the spicy side of Emory and how Jude rescued her again when a freak snow storm hits Texas.

This was another great addition to the Saddle Creek universe and I hope we get to see the sisters get their own stories also.

Finding the One . . .

🚐 Emory Travis has made herself a successful social media influencer. She is self-reliant, although it can be a very lonely lifestyle. When her van breaks down, she and her dog Rosie meet mechanic and tow-truck driver Jude Winslow, who takes loving care of his three younger sisters, and offers her another perspective. His family life is so unlike hers. Yet he admires her independence, which also frustratingly makes it difficult to convince her that he can make a difference in her life.

The characters are very likable, admirable, and have the reader cheering for their success. Will Jude be able to convince Emory that she should give him a chance and accept something more for herself? Or will her determination keep her moving on and not needing anyone else to take away the ultimate lonely life she currently lives?
