"A Fun Guide to Learn All About Bears"

Do you have a teddy bear? Nice and soft and cuddly? Well, here you will learn all about REAL bears which live throughout our nation in woodlands and mountains. They are wild, and they don't cuddle, so don't try to go near them if you see one trying to get some food out of a campsite trash barrel. Bears are very strong and can run very fast; they climb trees, and can swim in streams and lakes. They can smell scents very well, hear soft sounds, have good vision, and can probably do all this better than humans. What do they like to eat? They eat meat from other animals, plants, berries, fruit, nuts and fish. They probably eat healthier than most people because they are not allowed into McDonalds! They live a long life of up to 30 years with some living even longer. They have very few threats from other animals except from humans who still hunt and shoot them. Most hunters use dogs to chase the bears, which often climb into a tall tree to avoid the dogs. When bears live in snowy areas, they often find a cave to sleep soundly all winter until spring; this is called hibernation. There is so much more this wonderful guide shares with you. There are many photos of actual bears in all sections of the book. This is another treasured guide provided by Emma Child who loves nature. Add this book to your collection.

Excellent children’s introduction to the bear family

Children have a natural curiosity about the world, especially about animals. Their interests range across the complete spectrum of size and environmental niche. This book is about the bear, using images and text intertwined, Child gives a very good introduction to this animal, many species of which are in danger of extinction.
The images are photos of the different species of bears, they appear to have been taken in the wild, although a few were likely taken in a zoo. One idea that is reinforced is that like most young animals, baby bears are very cute. Most of the species of bears around the world are described, along with their general dietary habits.
Learning about animals while you are young helps instill a desire to preserve them and their habitat. This book will give a valuable assist to the former and so help drive the latter.

Bears ~ Fun Facts & Amazing Photos of Animals in Nature ~ Amazing Animal Kingdom ~ Book 7 gives young readers information and great photos of all types of bears. It would make a wonderful addition to any classroom library or elementary school library or a personal library for an elementary age child. Bears is part of a fantastic science series by Emma Child about all different types of animals; each book in the series is high quality and accurately informs young minds about animals in our world with a touch of humor.

The only bear I have seen in the wild was in the Smokey Mountains in a National Park in Tennessee and it was up a tree at the time, sleeping. All I saw was it's bum! That was on a great visit to the USA from Australia in 2012.

I thoroughly enjoyed this most informative book about bears. I certainly didn't know anything about Spectacled bears and Ms Child's included a lot of information of which I was unaware.

A lovely book with great photographs of all kinds of bears which will be marvellous for parents and grandparents to read to their families.

Good stuff!

Bears

Another great book from Emma Childs. I always learn something despite an admittedly dated Biology degree and my many many trips to Zoos over the years. And I am always anxious to read the stories to my grandkids. They love the stories and the photos as much as I do. The Bears book is the best one so far, but it seems I think that every time I read one of the books in her series. Don't miss any of them!

All The Bears

Once again, author Emma Child reveals even a few facts about bears of which I wasn't aware. Not to mention a couple of bears new to me.

Accompanying photos, as usual, help the reader enjoy the book.

Especially fun for this reader.

Fun Educational Series for Whole Family

My family has enjoyed this nature series by Emma Child. The books are organized, easy to read, and offers topic focused photos at the beginning of each chapter. Young children and early elementary children may need assistance reading. BEARS included general information and offered unique facts about commonly known BEARS and unusual BEARS too.

A good beginner book.

Expandable color photos, double tap. The only error was that bears walk like bipeds when most just stand. The photos are accurate, maybe it was a glitch?

Having spent all of my life near the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, I've had my share of bear encounters - one of them quite scary. Where I live, we don't always have to hike into the woods to see bears, sometimes they show up on roadsides or even in our back yards. Either bears can't read "You are now leaving the Park" signs or they just figure that they were here first.

As always happens when I read a book in this fine series, I was surprised to find out how much I don't know. I've been "up-close-and-personal" with black bears and read a lot about grizzlies, polar bears, Kodiaks, and pandas. I was aware of the moon bear and the honey bear (although I've only encountered it by the name "sun bear.") The sloth bear and the spectacled bear were both new to me. It's a bit confusing that the sloth bear (named after a South American animal) is found only in Asia, while the only South American bear is called "spectacled." Poor planning, I call it.

I knew that bears have phenomenal sense of smell, but didn't realize that their hearing is so acute and I was surprised to read that their sight is comparable to humans. I suppose because they have such small eyes and seem to be peering myopically that the perception is that they have poor eyesight. Hikers are warned to make noise to alert bears of their presence, but it appears that the bears may see us as soon as we see them and that they've heard and smelled us long before that.

Although I'm usually satisfied with my basic black-and-white Kindle, reading this author's books has made me ponder if I should opt for a more hi-tech e-reader so that I can enjoy her many beautiful pictures. Maybe I need to talk to Santa about that.

This book is a wonderful read for kids or adults. If you're a bear-lover, you might want to check out BEARS IN THE BACKSEAT by Kim DeLozier. He was the GSM National Park ranger in charge of bears for several decades and his stories are fascinating.

REVIEW: BEARS by Emma Child [Amazing Animal Kingdom Series]

A number of children's educational books on animals exist, but my highest recommendation goes to the Amazing Animal Kingdom Series by Emma Child. Every entry is a treasure, the kind of books to share with your child, then save, because kids will want to read again. Bears have always been one of my interests, yet I still learned much from reading Ms. Child's text. (Lovely photos, too.) She researches her topics, then makes them lively, interactive, and humorous.
