Aside from the normal changes in her life, college junior, Elle Richards, can always count on her friendship with Tristan. The longing for him to love her back is something she keeps well hidden, even from herself. No matter how many miles apart they are, regular phone calls and texts keep them close…until the day everything changes.
Wide Receiver Tristan Daniels has a good thing going. Much to his, and every single woman’s surprise, he’s in a committed relationship. The possibility of going pro looks more than promising…until his spur of the moment transfer to a rival college is approved. Now, Tristan will be forced to be in the presence of the woman he’s secretly loved for as long as he can remember. Elle.
Being away from one another was enough to keep Tristan and Elle distracted, but angst, confusion, and troubled secrets launches them into a breathless, heart pumping story you won’t want to miss!
Born and currently residing in Texas, Angela works as a nurse during the day and an author by night. She's addicted to cleaning, coffee, and fuzzy socks. When not spending time with her husband and their three children, working or writing, she's reading a good book or listening to music.
This book, in many ways, reminded me of SC Stephen's writing. The way the angst doesn't stop, and you're not sure they'll ever get each other. You want to hit the characters upside the head so they'll understand how they're meant to be. At the same time, it's not fake conflict. No, this is reality based in each character's personality, and the obstacles, in their minds, are real. I kept looking at the page number, going—"Now. They have got to see it!"
Oh, yes, I love me a serious angst fest! When the resolution comes and the passion sets in... oh my God is it sweet!!
Two words about the male voice in this book. Even though Tristan is written by a female author, there is nothing dainty or feminine about his voice. I chuckled at his expressions so much throughout; the boy is absolutely, full-on male:
The black shit she piled on her lashes ran down her face like war paint.
She frowned, and so help me because all I could think about was sucking on her bottom lip... and maybe a few other places.
Oh, and Tristan is hot. Look:
Then, there's college life. Sorority and fraternity inside fun I had no idea of. It's hilarious and disturbing and awesome all at once, and worth a read even just for that!
Spoiler—small spoiler. I love the HEA. Poor Tristan. He had yearned for his girl for so long. If heaven had a taste, it'd taste like her.
“I have loved you since we were kids. I’ve wanted you so f---- bad, but I never told you how I felt because the thought of losing you, even as a friend, terrified me.”
Distraction is the story of two best friends, Elle and Tristan. They have been best friends since childhood and have been in love with each other for all the time, but not wanting to destroy their friendship, they “distracted” themselves. They both move off to different colleges. Now, Tristan has a girlfriend and Elle, well she is still in love with Tristan but she is still cherishes their friendship, even if she doesn’t understand some of the choices he has made (True friendship for the win!).
Tristan is the typical college jock, who loves sex, but is honestly faithful to one girl he fell in love with. And no, that is not Elle. He is a charmer, cocky and absolutely a hunk! You can see that his friendship with Elle, is always the back of his mind and even though he doesn’t know it, a lot of his decisions are influenced by her and her friendship.
While, Elle is the typical girl – next door. She is nice, pretty and a loyal friend. Still in love with Tristan, she tried to keep her friendship with Tristan alive through texts and calls. She is a nurturer by thought, and does her best to avoid confrontations. So for the first half of the book at least, I could not seem to empathise with her.
This story is quite well written. The writing is a credit to this story really. I am not a fan of a story whose plot’s foundation is angst. While I believe that a little angst is required in romance (who doesn’t believe that a little hurt is required for a love to be enduring!), a story filled with angst from the start to the finish isn’t really my cup of tea. And I wouldn’t have continued with this book as well, if the writing itself hadn’t hooked me in (Believe me, I will read anything as long it is quite well written!).
The characterization as well is one of the strong points. Both Tristan and Elle, grow up a lot in the book. You see their friendship being tested through their growth, yet the one thing that never wavered was their love for each other. The growth for both Elle and Tristan isn’t instantaneous, it a climb uphill. And I fell for both of them, especially since they made decisions that I would have, if I had been in their shoes.
Minor Spoiler: My respect and admiration for Elle skyrocketed when she refused to be doormat and made Tristan work for her trust and love. Now that’s the sort of heroine I love! You go girl!
These two though really tested my patience. When I am reading a romance, the one thing I really hate – the one thing I can’t ever stand is miscommunication between the protagonists. There were times in the book that I was literally going to pull out my he=air because of the fact Elle and Tristan weren’t speaking to each other, especially considering the fact that they are supposed to be best friends. I mean, best friends are supposed to be able to talk to each other right? That’s how at least it goes with my best friends.
Beyond the angst and the miscommunication, this one really had me hooked. It’s one of those stories that no matter what irritations you might have with the plot, you still can’t let go. And best (worst?) part is that I completed it thinking yes, now they have HEA and I can rest easy, I read the blurb for the next part - Addiction! Well, there went my peace! *sighs*
I am now going to have to get that one as well, which considering that I do not have an International Card to pay for the kindle version, I am now praying that a review opportunity for that one comes along soon! :D
O.M.G., what a freaking ride!!! Distraction is one of those books that I think will resonate with most women. It’s secretly loving someone you think is off limits and having to watch them with another. BUT—and oh thank you baby Jesus (and Angela McPherson)—it resolves itself so friggin’ sweetly!
M’kay, here’s the obligatory backstory, for all you peeps that aren’t in the know: Tristan and Elle have been best friends from childhood, and each secretly harbors feelings for the other. Should be simple, right? Nope, nope, nope! Tristan’s engaged to another woman, and Elle is dating another man.
Oh my wounded heart, it was agonizing being in these two characters’ heads and watching them secretly pine for one another. I died a thousand (figurative) deaths as each one came SO CLOSE to admitting their feelings … only for something to distract (<—*nudge, nudge* check out the title) them.
Let’s set the record straight with one very important thing: Angela McPherson is AMAZING with sexual tension. No, phenomenal! I was pining, and I do not normally pine.
Not to be outshined by the amazing sexual tension are the characters themselves. Actually, let me expand that statement to the characters and the world they resided in. I’ve read a lot of books about college and I’ve noticed some gaps between how the author perceives college life and how college actually is (I’m sure readers of YA also see this in depictions of high school). The characters and setting here absolutely NAILED it, which made the entire story that much more realistic. By the time the book came to a close, I felt that I personally knew these characters.
Needless to say, this book was ah-mazing, and I’m going to get whiny pretty soon if I don’t get my hands on Addiction ASAP!!!
I will admit, there were times in this book when I wanted to slap Elle and punch Tristan; the angst was just so high. This book follows two people who are best friends and secretly in love with each other as they try to deal with their feelings for each other and each other's significant others. This book was very emotional and had a lot of highs and lows, but in the end, there is a happy ever after and for that I am glad. The two mature a lot during the book and it is nice to see. I enjoyed the secondary characters, especially Robbie and Ginger and how all of the other characters interacted with them. I really loved this book and would highly recommend it. Tristan is so sexy, and quite a man whore in the beginning, but it is nice to see how much he changed for both Elle and also for himself. Elle is quiet and afraid of confrontation in the beginning, but grows more confident through the book and is able to stand up for herself in the end. Great job again Angela!
*update* Okay, I HAD to read it again after release because, well, it's just that awesome!!
beta read this book and simply put...it's freaking amazing. A brilliantly told best friends turned something more new adult contemporary that brings the angst of course, but adds in so much more than that. Can't wait to post my full review closer to release date. Just know that THIS is a book you can NOT miss. Trust me.
I basically read this book in one day. From 14% in the morning, and finished it that afternoon. It's not a short book, it was just that good, and I couldn't force myself to put it down.
I won't give you a synopsis of the book since many others do that, and I'm just not big on repeating what everyone else has said. So, I'll move onto the good stuff.
I loved this book because the two main characters have been best friends since childhood. They grew up together. Conquered high school together. Lived life together.
But neither were able to tell each other how they really felt about one another. Not until it almost became too late.
This story is about two people who really know each other and are BEST friends. I love that! I mean, that's what real life fairytales are made of. Finding that person who not only completes you, but shares everything with you and becomes your best friend, your best confidant, your best...well, everything.
Is life all roses? No. But it doesn't have to be. And that's what makes it so beautiful.
I received this an ARC of this book in exchange for a review.
Elle is going to Texas Tech and Tristan is going to UT. Elle doesn't know it but Tristan is transferring to Tech to be with his fiance. Elle and Tristan have been best friends forever. They are also secretly in love with each other. Neither one wants to risk the friendship by confessing love. After Tristan breaks up with his fiance, he begins to look for a way to make Elle his.
The story is well written. I enjoyed the book. Since this was an ARC copy, it does need some editing. I can't wait to read the next book and find out what happens!
Disclaimer:I obtained a copy of this book through the Read It And Reap programme.
Hmmm, I found this a difficult book to finish in large fashion because of its stereotypical plot and characterisation. Having said that, although for me this is the books greatest weakness, it may also be it's greatest strength, as it probably dials into the need many readers have for 'star-crossed love' in all of its protean manifestations.
What really drove me to distraction from a character point of view was the stereotypical jock-strappy male lead, with his endless parent/child angst as manifested by his continuous references to his dad being a 'dick.' Okay, I got it the first time, he's a 'dick.' 'Dick', if I remember rightly seems to be the perjorative expressive-tool of choice for the hero, which is pretty restrictive given all of the other genital synonyms available- including 'tool' itself. Of-course the stereotypical jock-strappy male lead does not walk around with a thesaurus stuffed in his overladen jock-strap but some variety in language would have been welcome. Or alternatively, the adage of 'show, don't tell' could have been used. Don't keep telling us the dad is a dick, show us clearly why this is the case.
Just so we are clear I also didn't find the male lead at all likeable; especially the way he spends time ogling girls and wishing he could 'bang them' before musing 'oh it's a shame I'm single' - I know there are men out there who think like this, but they don't tend to make particularly likeable leads unless they are anti-heroes or possessed of other redeeming features which I personally found absent in this case. Whilst on the topic of the main characters, I know that in real life people probably think thoughts like:
or "she’d coated her lips with that cherry lip shit she liked…damn…..damn she was hot."
"I slept worth shit last night."
but while you can think like that, it just doesn't work when typed out and read from a page, especially when there is just so much use of the word 'shit' that it starts to seem like it's a manifestation of Handwriting Tourette's.
In short, because of the clunky material any sexual tension in the pot simply simmered and evaporated without ever reaching boiling point. Add to that some plot holes, characters not thinking logically or realistically all in aid of 'Deus Ex Machina' and the plot 'Macguffin' meant that I was left distinctly unenthused.
Having poured cold water all over the book, I do hope that the only thing running is ink and not tears. So let me add that, I understand the author writes part time, and it's a major achievement to write a book and expose it to the full glare of criticism. So I'd note that more people seem to have enjoyed this than disliked it, and that my point of view may just be my-own-point-of-view, but I would suggest in future focussing on a tighter plot, less exposition especially at the start of the book, more 'show- don't tell' and far less repetitive dialogue, description and thoughts. Good luck!

Ok have you ever read a book you wish you could shade in more than five stars, this is one of those books, I started this book around 9:30 and finished around 12:00 read it in one sitting, I couldn't put it down, then I told myself I would do my review in the morning but couldn't stop thinking about this book. Tristen and Elle had been friends forever, the kind you would go to hell and back for and even when they got older their bond got tighter, but no one would say love had anything to do with it. Tristen was transferring to Tech college where Elle was attending along with his fiancée. Tristen was excited to tell Elle about the transfer, playing football. He just didn't how to break the news about Kim. See Tristen has always loved Elle, but knew he would have to let that love go cause she didn't feel the same, stupid boy. When Elle finds out about Tristens engagement she puts on a happy face, but deep down she's dying how could she love someone so long who didn't love her back. This book was awesome and I love Alyssa Elles best friend. We have cheating, jelousy, rage, secrets but we have true love, I've never wanted to shake two people like I did Tristen and Elle. I hate there is another book, but glad their story isn't over, we have plenty of stuff to find out. The only thing is it seemed to take forever for the book to end, but I think it's because I kept wanting to know if Tristen and Elle would ever pull their heads out of their ass. Definitely a must read, so glad I was given the opportunity to review. looking forward to bk. 2.
Omg! this was a solid 4 1/2 star read for me. Even though I wanted to slap Tristan and Elle a lot I just had to know how it was going to end. I can't wait for the next one!!
Best friends falling in love is my favorite contemporary romance trope, and NA seems to be my go-to age genre, so I was really happy to get my hands on Distraction. But my favorite combo didn't do it for me with this story.
My initial impression was that I was being told all about the characters and background without really feeling like I was experiencing it — kind of the difference between watching an awesome movie and having someone try to recite the plot for me. But when I thought about putting it down and moving on to something else, I peeked over at Goodreads first, and I noticed all the glowing reviews. So I figured I was missing something, maybe in the wrong mindframe or whatever, and I decided to read something completely different and then come back to it. Two days later I picked it up again and started over, and for a while I was enjoying it a little more, but then it headed downhill again.
I think it all comes down to Tristan. The truth is that I didn't like him at all, and it's really impossible to fall in love with a romance when you couldn't care less about one half of the central couple. First, he's kind of an ass about playing the field, and he's apparently been doing that to get past his feelings for Elle. But one of his bed hops has somehow turned into his being in love and getting engaged. He's clueless about Elle's feelings for him, and he's in denial about his own feelings for her, but the girl he's engaged to is a big ball of cliche, and he's clueless about that, too.
Kelly is a clingy, insecure, bitchy, snobby freshman. Not only should her personality bar the whole marriage idea, but they haven't been together all that long, and why on earth does Tristan think getting married at that age is a good idea? She's jealous of Elle, inappropriately flirtatious with other guys, and a whiny brat when she's with Tristan. She's passive aggressive and manipulative, and it's not all just behind Tristan's back, making him even dumber for staying with her. She's also apparently in the good graces of his parents, who are clearly horrible people to begin with, since they basically threatened Elle's shot at a successful future to keep their son away from her.
It's like Tristan is walking around with his eyes purposely closed in a sea of red flags, and there's no real reason for it. He's not rushing into marriage because an inheritance requires it, or because he's been with the girl for so long that he's conditioned to thinking that's the next logical step, or because his awful parents are pressuring him into it for some unexplained elitist reason, or because he's approaching forty and wants kids. He's doing it because Kellie is the one-night-stand that didn't end for some reason, and that's all it apparently takes for him to announce to Elle that he's in love and ready to commit his life to someone no decent person would want to be with. I can't wrap my head around it. Then again, he thought leaving Longhorn football to play at Texas Tech was a good idea, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

I love this book so much. I'm all for best friends who becomes more than just that. One hot football player, who has been in denial of his feelings for his best-friend is what got my attention and pulled me in from the first page. So much intensity and mixed emotions in this book that at times, I wanted to pull my hair and slap both characters silly to knock some sense into them.
Elle Richards has been on the sideline, watching Tristan from afar, hiding her true feelings for her best friend. Tristan is a wide receiver who slept with anything that had two legs. I hate it when two people are in love with each other and not say anything about it. Let it be known before it's too late, darn it!
The love they had for each other was unbreakable, together or not, they will always hold a special place in each others heart. I loved how having a best friend to go to when in need of a shoulder to cry on or just knowing that someone cares about you, it made that special someone feel safe. Tristan being the Alpha-Male that he was, he always made sure that Elle was in safe hands and same goes with Tristan.
The tension flowed through them but are too scared to put it into action. They're undying love for each other just stretched out way too long to be spoken out loud. How long can they both hold in this feeling of lust and love most importantly? Will they cross that line of friendship to finally admit to one another how they really feel? You'll have to read and find out. This is the second book I've read written by Angela McPherson. I will be coming back for more. Love you and your writing!

This review is from: Distraction (Kindle Edition) So much of this story hit me personally...reminding me of young love and life...and that moment of realization when love is true love! Tristan was great, sexy and just right at the right times...Elle, such a good girl (like me)...made this story all that it was...no spoilers, but if you love love, like I do, and want to read an extremely well written story full of emotion ...one click this one! Enjoy!
I received this book in exchange for a honest review so here goes.
I have to say the story and the plot of this was great. Best friends watching each other with other people whilst secretly lusting and well loving them but never admitting it, how can that not be good? You just know there is so much angst in there but not only that there's genuine pain, heartache, stress and a lot of anxiety. The best friends faced a lot of obstacles, fiancées, sisters, frat brothers and slutty girls as well as their own hidden feelings and finding the courage to finally let go and tell the truth.
I have to say I dislike both the main characters, so yes I think I can safely say that Tristan is made out to be a pure sex legend in any university or campus he attends as wherever he goes a female literally throws herself at his feet begging to offer him sexual favours and hoping to tame the well known man whore. We were constantly reminded this in every new scene he entered I mean once or twice was more than enough but by the tenth or eleventh I just wanted him to have an accident to make him ugly and more surprisingly it's all academic women throwing themselves at his feet but obviously they're all well manicured big chested and shaped in all the right ways but since when have you gone to a college where every single academic acts like a slut? Because when I went to college most of the women there were actually there for studying. Also during the story he starts out with Kellie being his girlfriend but then magically a couple of chapters later she was referred to as his fiancée which left a whole big gap of how where and when it happened for me as a reader? It could have been introduced a little more subtly and blended into the story a little more rather then as blunt as it was delivered and that it happened without our knowledge. Tristan also seems to relish in all of the female attention even though he's engaged and taken as he says to the women offering themselves to him but he still flirts and leads them on. Elle god don't get me started on her, seriously she's such a pushover when it comes to Tristan he can literally do anything she just brushes it off and goes oh ok then and that's it, no real anger or acknowledgement that her feelings are important even though they are best friends? Tristan moves to tech and doesn't tell her purposely leading her into conversations which could easily open up to him telling her but he doesn't instead he keeps it completely secret until they go for a one on one meal, admirable as it is that he wants to be respectful of telling her he's let everyone know about it before her and still kept it from her and yet she gets mad but soon as he explains she just let's it go and brushes it aside like it doesn't matter, erm if he's your best friend let alone the guy you've fallen in love with and he's kept something that big from you then hell yes it matters! Well it would to be that's for sure. She did show some courage further on and start to be who she was without considering him but it seemed too much like she was playing the part and not truly doing it besides she actually still drops things when he needs her too like the suit fitting? She's such a wishy washy character she annoyed me.
Ok so there I've ranted about the characters a lot I know but they absolutely didn't ruin the story, it was still good and heartfelt, a true roller coaster ride that you as a reader will also feel because of the way it's written.
Overall I did enjoy reading this, the storyline and plot were great the obstacles realistic and relate-able and you truly felt the angst of the characters. I can safely say that I know I'll come back to re read this just because of the story and I'm sure just as I am now the characters will still bug me. Lol.
Thank you again for the opportunity to read this.

Best Friends turns Lovers? This is what this book about. College students Elle and Tristan have been friends since they were kids. They were always very close, they counted on each other, no matter how many miles apart they were they stayed the best of friends. They were each others rock, they would drop anything and everything for each other. They were always in touch either by phone calls or text, until the day everything changed.
Tristan had no idea that Elle have loved in for so long. She live her life watching Tristan with different women, while staying his bestfriend and in the process being hurt because Tristan never looked at her the way she did him. Afraid of ruining their friendship, Elle never told Tristan how much she had been in love with him. Instead she kept her feelings hidden and stayed the best of friend she could to Tristan.
Same goes with Tristan, he was afraid of ruining his friendship with Elle and he never did believe that Elle ever looked at him anything but a friend. So he kept his feelings deep and had a relationship with College freshman, who had become his fiancé. Not going to the same school, made it easier for them two to not have to confront their feelings. Until Tristan as a football wide receiver’s school transfer was accepted and moved Tristan to the same school as Elle.
When Elle and Tristan started spending time together, both their feelings for each other surfaced and they decided to keep them hidden. Elle knowing that Tristan can never be hers’, decided to moved on with her life and starting dating Eric. Eric is sweet and is just what Elle needed, but to her he could never compare to Tristan. When Tristan started seeing them together, he decided he better do something about his feelings for Elle before he loses her forever.
Will Tristan finally leave his bitchy fiancé and be with Elle? Will Elle give Tristan a chance, even though he had hurt her? Or will she stay with Eric and forget all about Tristan?
I love how Tristan is. No matter how much his fiancé acted crazy about her friendship with Elle, he always defended Elle. Yes at times I wanted to smack Tristan for forgiving his fiancé and giving her too many chances. She was a controlling cheating bitch and didn’t deserve Tristan at all. Yes, Elle also needed to get smack a few times to stop being so scared and go for what she wants. This book had a great happy ending, but I felt like it as missing something. I want to read more about Tristan and Elle and where they are going with their relationship and life. So Angela please work on book 2 and give us more Tristan and Elle. Thank you for sharing your book with me. <3

Distraction by Angela McPherson follows the story of Tristan and Elle, two best friends who have been keeping secret their feelings for each other. The story starts with Tristan the football star. He has recently accepted a transfer to Texas Tech to be closer to his fiancé (and Elle). Elle, head over heels in love with Tristan, is just excited that he is coming for a visit. At least she was until he sprung on her his transfer and engagement. Forced to be near each other, Tristan and Elle must confess their feelings or risk losing each other forever.
I cannot express just how much I loved this story!!! Tristan and Elle are so well written I half expected to meet them on the street. Elle Richards is your typical college girl. She attends classes and works hard for every cent she's earned. She joined a sorority to appease her friend Alyssa. She dates, but nothing serious. Why? Because she is in love with her best friend who is miles away at another college. Tristan Daniels is a college football star, the typical jock and womanizer. That is until he decides to settle down with Kellie. The relationship starts as a distraction because his father has threatened him about being with Elle, the girl who keeps showing up in his dreams. He thinks he can be happy with her until his transfer to Texas Tech comes through. Now Tristan will be forced to see Elle and be near her, all the while trying to convince himself and others that he loves Kellie. Really though, how could he not see how this was going to blow up in his face?! Boys :::roll eyes:::
Tristan's and Elle's story is truly torture to read!!! The whole time I'm yelling at the book about how stupid he's being or how immature she's being. Really I was, so why did I love it? It's so....believable. The author captures the emotions of these characters so well that I found myself crying with Elle or wanting to bang my head on a wall while Tristan tried (and failed) to love Kellie. But it wasn't all romance either. Tristan's and Elle's relationship as friends was at risk. They grew up together, they know everything about each other, and now they find themselves in unfamiliar territory. Elle starts dating seriously, Tristan is engaged. By all rights neither of them should be as close anymore, and when Elle tells Tristan this, it's heartbreaking. Thanks to alternating POVs, you know how they both feel about each other....that's dramatic irony at it's best y'all :D
This book left my emotions reeling, but I had a huge smile and warm heart at the end. Also bonus....it's a series so Tristan and Elle are coming back :) FYI this book is written for the New Adult genre, so 18+ please!! If you enjoy contemporary romance, then I highly recommend you check out this book. You do not want to miss it!!
Why is Tristan always punching stuff? He has no control over beating a guy into a bloody mess and he's constantly punching walls when he's talking to Elle. Is this supposed to be hot? Elle should run away.
What a great book, love the best friends angle, will read those everytime! Especially love them, when I'm so captivated that I can't put it down and this was one of them, need the 2nd book now.
Distraction Book One of The Distraction Series by Angela McPherson – 4 stars It’s the classic story of boy and girl are best friends since 2nd grade. Boy loves girl. Girl loves boy. Everyone knows it but them. Girl and boy go to different colleges and then end up back on the same campus watching each other date. ARGHHHHHHHHH kids these days, don’t you just want to shake them? Actually, it’s just not “kids these days” as this has been going on for centuries. I think Romeo and Juliet where the only 2 that were actually honest with each other about their feelings from the get go. This is the story of Elle and Tristan. Tristan is (of course) a football player and Elle is from a different type of family than him. Tristan’s family has plans for him. Elle’s mom doesn’t really have any plans for her. This is their love story told in a dual POV with alternating chapters. The story ebbs and flows naturally. At times it has as much energy as the frat house parties they attend and others it’s sweet and simple. I found myself turning the pages very quickly to find out what happens next. As I was nearing the end of this story, I really wasn’t sure which way it would go. I got to about 96% before I realized that there is probably more to this story in future books – alas, there are 2 more books making this a trilogy. I was ok with that. The story kept me engaged from beginning to end. At one point I had to put it down for a few days, and was able to pick it right back up and not have to back read to remember who was who. I look forward to reading books 2 and 3 in this series
Distraction by Angela McPherson Stars: 5 Elle Richards has two best friends, Tristan and Alyssa. Tristan and Elle has been best friends since they were in diapers, and they have relied on each other above everyone else. Elle’s feelings for Tristan has evolved into something more, but is scared that those feelings will break their friendship. Tristan is a football star, who just transferred schools so that he could be with his girlfriend. This just happens to be the school his best friend is also attending. Before, they were too far apart in distance to confront any feelings they had for each other. This move has forced him to take a deeper look at his feelings for Elle and his relationship with his girlfriend. I did things a little backward. I actually read the third book first instead of this book. I fell in love with Elle and Tristan back in that book so I was excited to know more about their story. This book did not let me down at all. The story was well written and kept you engaged. There were times that I wanted to yell at Tristan to get his head out of his behind and be more patient with Elle. However, they know each other well and are what each other needs. I love the relationship that Elle has with Alyssa. Alyssa gives Elle tough love when she needs it and a shoulder to cry on when the situation calls for it. Alyssa has her flaws, but is always in Elle’s corner. I definitely recommend this series!
Well about this book. Meh!!! I am sorry but I did not liked it. The main characters spent almost 90% of the book apart from each other (With other people included) and the whole, I love you but and don't have the balls to say it did not sit well with me. I just cannot do it really. But I will finish the series, but for me is really boring and annoying when the main characters stay apart all the time.
3.5 stars but lets round it to 4, just because they ended up together with no cliffie
This story centres around Tristan and Elle who have been friends since childhood and are only now separated through different college choices.
Tristan is now engaged to Kellie. Kellie does not like the closeness between Tristan and Elle and is now feeling even more threatened since they all would be attending the same college as Elle. Tristan has transferred so he can be closer to Kellie. Little does he know that Kellie and his father had more to do with the transfer than he did himself. Kellie questions Tristan’s choice about phoning Elle about his transfer before he called his parents, so to keep her happy he phones his parents instead. Tristan is worried what Ells reaction will be when she finds out about his engagement to Kellie.
Elle has a younger sister Heather who through their parents’ divorce and their father moving away Heather got involved in taking drugs. This lead Heather to disappear and cause Elle to worry about her a lot more. Elle emails Heather just about weekly, hoping for the reply that never comes. While Elle desperately misses Heather she also misses Tristan and feels she will never get used to them being separated. Tristan’s mum asks him if he has told Elle that he is transferring and about Kellie, she tells him no and this does not make her all that happy. He finds out that only his father does not like Elle, while also finding out his mother does not like Kellie.
Tristan gets in touch with Elle to meet him for lunch so he can introduce her to Kellie. Not wanting to go by herself she takes another childhood friend Alyssa with her, From the offset Alyssa does not like Kellie and makes it known, making lunch harder than it needed to be. Things go from good to bad for Tristan and Kellie and she takes it out on Elle even though Elle is now seeing Eric. She tries to tell Kellie she is no threat to her and Tristan but she won’t listen to her.
In the meantime, Tristan gets phone calls from Heather with her asking him not to tell Elle. During another phone call Tristan knows Heather sounds bad and meets her for a coffee, reminds Tristan not to tell Elle. Eventually Heather asks Tristan to help her get to rehab, he agrees and takes her so she can get help. While waiting at the rehab centre he asks Heather if she wants him to tell Elle, she tells him no as she doesn’t want her sister to see her until she is well. Even though he knows he is going to be in more than big trouble with Elle for not telling her he agrees.
What does the future hold for Elle, Tristan, Kellie and Heather?
So, I’ve read Distraction twice now. Once in draft form, and once after it was released. My thoughts the first time through? Holy **** this book is fabulous! My thoughts the second time around? Holy **** balls, this book is even better than I remembered it to be. This isn’t your typical new adult story…even though it really sort of is. The relationship with Tristan and Elle is slow building, but something you can’t help but become addicted to at the same time. A truly beautiful story that is not only heart wrenching, but a story you’ll find yourself thinking about long after you’re done.
This is Elle and Tristan’s story. Two best friends who’ve harbored feelings for one another since they were young. Love in all forms, ending in the one form neither want to acknowledge for fear they’ll lose what they’ve grown to have between each other. I’m not going to go into detail about DISTRACTION, the blurb alone does an amazing job of that. But what I do want to talk about, are the characters of Elle and Tristan, because truly, you NEED to know these two.
Tristan is charming, albeit a little on the raunchy side with his playboy ways. He’s a lifelong flirt, able to charm the panties off a lady with a simple smile. But underneath all that boy-power is a guy who’s loving and protective, willing to do anything for the people in his life–especially Elle. Regardless of the fact that he’s a taken man, Tristan’s need to care for his best friend is something you can’t help but swoon over.
Elle’s a good girl. Sweet, a bit on the quiet side, but someone who knows how to pack a punch with her sass, when provoked. Growing up, she dealt with some family drama, but came out of it an amazing girl with a wonderful head on her shoulder. She’s been in love with Tristan for years, but letting him know the truth isn’t something she is willing to do for fear she’ll lose him. And he’s the one thing she can’t lose. Ever.
I’m not gonna lie. When I read this book, the angst level was off the charts intense. I think I threw my Kindle across my bed at least twice reading it the second time around (and I already knew what was about to go down.) I won’t even go there about what happened when I read it in draft form. But just know my mouth was twitching and cursing all sorts of words my children did not need to hear from their mommy. But that’s the thing about Angela McPherson’s writing. She has that ability to elicit those emotions out of you when you think you’ve grown immune to feels in books anymore. And Distraction will definitely bring on your feels, let me tell you. But the overall story that is Tristan and Elle is worth those emotions in the end. Trust me.
Overall, DISTRACTION is prime example of what new adult is nowadays. That time in life when decisions are the hardest, and the heart thinks and feels recklessly. And still, all this time later I can’t shake this story line for the life of me. Needless to say I need more. Hopefully sooner than later.
So congratulations, Angela, you have written a book that will stick with readers for a very long time. And I couldn’t be prouder of you. ♥
Distraction by Angela McPherson is a story about undying love that is kept hidden. This story is full of romance, emotion and action. This story is sports romance that will warm your heart and also pull at your heart strings. The characters in this book will pop right off the page and into your life. You will find yourself relating to different things in the story. This story will pull you into a world of hidden love and emotional bonds.
Elle Richards is quiet and doesn't like confrontation but is learning to stand up for herself. No matter what kind of day or what is going on in her life, she could also count on him. She has a hidden secret, she wants him to love her back. They have always been close, daily texts and phone calls. Then one day that all changed. They both belong to others but are their hearts really in it? Will she finally admit her feelings for him?
Tristan Daniels is a hot, sexy wide receiver that is wanted by all the girls. The only problem with that is he belongs to another. His pro life looks promising until he decides to transfer to rival school. Will he lose his chance at the pros? He has another problem with transferring to this school and that is her. He has secretly loved her but he has kept it to himself, kept hidden. Will he admit that he has feelings for her?
Elle and Tristan's story is one of strong emotional bonds and a love that could last a lifetime. They say that being away from each other makes the heart grow stronger, is that the case with them? How will this hidden love effect them? Is being distracted with life enough to keep them from admitting their true feelings? Will all the secret come out? Life is full of changes, secrets, is the bond between these two strong enough to survive? You will love these two characters!
I think that this my favorite of all Angela McPherson's books yet so far. Angela lives in Texas with her husband and three children. She works as a pediatric nurse during the day and writes at night. She is willing to try anything once and you will often finding her laughing at herself. When she is not working or writing, she loves music and dancing with her children. This story is fast reading and will have you totally losing track of time. It will have you wanting to see what is next! I can't wait for the second book in this series to come out. I highly suggest this story as I know you will love reading it as much as I have.
Young love just isn’t what it used to be or maybe it is. How can two people live half their lives ignoring the fact they were meant to be together? Well, Tristan and Elle have this down to a science at least until Tristan transfers to the same college.
Tristan is engaged to Kellie and Elle is trying to be in a relationship with Eric, a baseball player. Needless to say seeing each other daily creates stress and problems with their current love interests.
Add into this Elle’s sister Heather, who has been in a downward spiral, is ignoring her calls and texts. Elle is still worried, in spite of her mothers assurance that Heather is fine, and they have spoken several times.
Kellie has secrets she is keeping from Tristan that could end their relationship, although she doesn’t see it that way. Eric is falling hard and fast into love with Elle. Elle doesn’t know what she really wants, but in her heart of hearts she knows it’s Tristan she loves. Tristen has always loved Elle and trying to be the loving fiancé to Kellie becomes harder and harder.
Tristen joins the Frat that his team members are a part of and coincidentally Eric is also a member. One of my favorite scenes is when Tristen asks Elle to help him with picking out a tux for his engagement party.
“Come here before you strangle yourself.”
Tristen shuffled over to me. I lifted the collar of his shirt, readjusting the tie.
“So what do you say? I don’t think I can go through with this if I don’t have you there with me.”
I looked up into his serious, warm honey eyes.
My answer came without effort. “Sure.” From the corner of my eye I noticed Kellie and her friends walking into the store. After adjusting Tristen’s tie, I leaned in close to his ear and whispered, “Just promise that I get to pick out my own dress. I’ve got this killer black strapless number I’m dying to wear. We’ll look perfect together.” I hadn’t meant to throw in the last part. It just slipped out, but I got the reaction I hoped for from Kellie.
“Would y’all like a room?” Kellie’s hardened tome made me smile. Simply put, I couldn’t stand her, she being the sole source behind me and Tristan’s strangled friendship. Until I met her, I usually shied away from confrontation, but not anymore.
I opened my mouth, ready to smart off but Tristan beat me to the chance.
“Sure, you paying,” he countered, turning to look in the mirror at my handy work. I held back from laughing. Knowing nothing good could come out of me sticking around, I decided to leave before any other heated words could take place.
“I’ve got to go but thanks for asking me to be with you.” I finished with a peck to his cheek then turned to his fuming fiancée. “Kellie, as always, a pleasure.” I smiled as I walked past her and her shocked-faced friends.
Angela you have struck into the heart of young romance, I enjoyed every page turning moment.
