Elphaba’s was better. I’ll say it. I get that the audience is young readers but I just couldn’t get over the misrepresentation of Glinda’s motivations for not going with Elphaba during “Defying Gravity.” The opportunity for character depth was lost but it was still cute which fit Galinda’s favoring of form over content.

This book tells an abbreviated version of the Wicked movie, told from Glinda's perspective and at an appropriate level for younger children. The colorful, cartoonish illustrations are sure to appeal to fans.

With the little golden (picture) book and 'Wicked' (part one) movie tie-in, 'I Am Elphaba', comes the companion book, 'I Am Glinda'.

As you would have guessed, it is told from the point of view of Galinda Upland, later Glinda, the "good". The shallow, superficial, spoiled, popular girl, figuratively and then literally bubbly, and the rival-turned-best-friend of Elphaba Thropp (and goddesses know that the film adaptation of the 'Wicked' musical leans towards, flirts with and teases something more to their friendship).

Like 'I Am Elphaba', 'I Am Glinda' is cute and charming enough, and very short. A few of the illustrations are the same as in 'I Am Elphaba', in telling the same basic story as the movie.

It's a sweet, pretty, pink thing. Not nearly as tragic as Elphaba's story, of course; Glinda is never made a victim or a villain. She makes her own choices, which are seemingly shallow and cowardly. Nevertheless she wants to help her Elphie.

One thing Glinda shares in common with Elphie: she tries. She keeps trying to improve, to legitimately help others (at least thanks to Elphaba's influence), and that's what counts.

There's not a lot for me to say about 'I Am Glinda', compared to my review of 'I Am Elphaba'. But that was me talking about my favourite fictional character ever, so the comparison, the biases, it's unfair, I know. I still enjoyed this one, however.

Hooray for 'Wicked', and magic and girl power and girl companionship! Complex female relationships, my pretties, fly all the way, with no limits!

Final Score: 3.5/5

The other night, I was able to finally read the Little Golden Books, Wicked Edition. I, obviously, started with "I Am Elphaba" and then read "I am Glinda."

Both books tell the story of Elphaba (the infamous Wicked Witch of the West, before the wicked part) and Glinda (the Good Witch of the North) as they arrive as Shiz, as they move from enemies to friends, and as they make their journey to Oz to meet the Wizard. The books end right where the movie is expected to (right were the OG musical ends for intermission), at Defying Gravity.

I loooooved the books. They were definitely adorable and nice easy readers. The illustrations were bright and bold and beautiful.

The more I torture myself with Wicked teaser, the less I can contain myself for the movie.

I read this book after Wicked I Am Elphaba by Mary Man-Kong . I’m disappointed that it didn’t start when she was a baby like Elphaba’s book did. Some of the scenes in college are the same. But Glinda’s book has more details throughout. The ending is also more developed. I hope both books will have sequels after the second movie is out.

3.25 stars. This book provides readers with a simple yet effective origin story of Glinda the Good Witch. It details her character traits, short-lived rivalry, and subsequent friendship with Elphaba. Glinda additionally discovers how to use her magical powers for the betterment of the town. Overall, this book was a quick and engaging read. I completed it to gain insight into the characters before I watch the movie later this month.

"By learning to help others, I have changed—for good!"

Hmmm. I don't know about that.

This is a colorful and appealing Little Golden Book about the most wonderfullest, pop-u-lar Glinda. It's for very young children, so it doesn't get into Glinda's flaws.

I feel like this book might be a little bit confusing for a young reader, especially since the target age group is likely too young to see the movie. Some things are better explained in Elpahba's book, almost requiring that one be read first.

It’s a cute little short story about the first half of Glinda’s life.
Perfect to introduce children to the Wicked universe or a quick refresher before watching the movie or musical.

Beautiful Artwork. Not TO spoilery. I am bummed that this and the Elphaba book shared some of the same art... But it's beautiful so I'm gonna let it slide. Haha

The art style is so cute but I wish there was a more realistic ending with how the musical first act ends! Super cute though I love Glinda.

Not quite as good as I Am Elphaba. The ending made Glinda seem nicer than she comes across in the movie.

For a short story Glinda knows how to tell about being popular, attending Shiz, falling for Fiyero...Helping Elphie, going to Emerald City, and partying ways with her college friend.
