Can Rick and Jesus put together a rebellion? Is that a tiger? Has Michonne finally found a new love match? What is Gregory's purpose? Who writes Negan's damn fine lines, oh yeah, that would be Robert Kirkman. Now it's time to build a rebellion, and unlike Star Wars Episode IV, there's nothing in place. Rick and Jesus work away behind the scenes building alliances, it's all looking good, just as long as Rick doesn't decide to go it alone. Rick? Rick! Rick, where are you going? Damn!
A wonderful look at Rick and co. in a position of huge vulnerability and their approaches to dealing with it. The multi faceted characterisations are the result of great writing and drawing by the creative team; and the lovely human being that is Negan must have every other creator screaming, why didn't they think of a character like this! 9.5 out of 12., Four Star read.

7 reasons the Comic is better than the TV show
1) The comic takes a page to explore a character; the show, (gah!) a whole hour!
2) The comic doesn’t drop heavy-handed metaphors on your head - a flower, a big can of pudding, etc.
3) The comic can push the language/violence envelope
4) There is no mediocre/bad acting in a comic
5) The comic didn’t spend a whole year on Hershel’s farm
6) The comic doesn’t have crappy CGI
7) In the comic, the bad guys are even more evil and crazier than the TV show

Meanwhile, Rick is making alliances with the Hilltop and the Kingdom and preparing to go to war.
However, Rick still doesn’t know enough about Negan and his Saviors and that terrible lack of information will turn Alexandria in a earlier war zone, where nobody would be safe and blood will run not matter what.
As in real life, knowing who is right and who is wrong is becoming more and more difficult to distinguish.

I can't believe it, but Negan is growing on me as a character. Despite his psycho tendencies and brutal, Medieval manner, I'm finding him waaaay more interesting than I ever did the Governor. There's a black humor that surrounds him that when mixed with his blunt badassery style is just ... well... bloody entertaining.
His confrontation with Rick is tense, exciting as hell, filled with profanity and written on the edge of a razor.
You ever hear the one about the stupid fuck named Rick who fucking thought he knew shit but didn't know shit and got himself fucking killed?
And really, I know Rick is supposed to be the good guy "hero", but I took some small amount of pleasure in seeing him dressed down Negan-style: "In case you haven't noticed...you're fucking fucked you stupid fucker."
It's this confrontation scene which saves this volume from mediocrity and mere filler as we move towards the "big" final(?) showdown with Negan and his band of merry psychokillers. Is Kirkman finally edging closer to a climax that's auspicious enough to end the series on? I hope so. If this storyline is not satisfactorily concluded soon, it will officially become the Coronation Street of zombie storytelling, and nobody wants that. Get out while the blood is still fresh on the page.

These are so short and I'm not sure what to write about them individually when I read them back to back. Still enjoying this story arc and can't wait to see what happens!

It takes a village to stop the nasty Negan...well, actually THREE villages.
Rick's finished with sitting on his hands and he's raising an army. That's right. The three communities will join forces to stop that evil psycho and his spiky bat named Lucille. That's the plan, anyway, so you can imagine that NOTHING will go as planned.
This one probably only deserves 3 stars, but there were some nice moments. Michonne gets all giggly and girlish with tiger-guy, and there's some good, snappy rhetoric between Negan and Rick.
Once again, Jesus Saves...the day, then takes Rick aside to tell him, "You're a leader we can follow" as the sun sets over the zombie-proof fence. And the glory of the Lord shown all about them, yadda, yadda, yadda.
Time out for some father/son bonding with Carl, and...it's all over. It ends pretty much the same as the last book only Negan is EVEN MORE pissed off this time.
One of these days, there's gonna be a war...maybe...

oh the war has well and truly began with Alexandria, The Hilltop and The Kingdom coming together to take down Negan and the Saviours. Rick, Jesus and Ezekiel come up with a plan to unite their communities but in good old walking dead fashion things don't start as great as you'd expect.
It's good to see Maggie and Sophia back, However Sophia isn't liking life at the Hilltop and wants to go back to Alexandria, Maggie's pregnancy is well and truly happening. Gregory i think is starting to like maggie a little bit which its coming off a little creepy. Rick starts to let people in on his secret plan to take on Negan and each of the people he tells has a different reaction, which i liked because it showed where the different members of the community are willing to do but at the same time i think not everyone is ready.
i LOVE Ezekiel's pet tiger shiva i would literally just purposely spend time with it and hope that it wouldn't kill me. Spencer is killed by Negan in this issue because he thinks Rick can no longer be a leader and wants Negan himself to kill rick but Negan think's this is a stupid idea and sticks a knife in Spencer's gut killing him instantly. Rick's plan to kill Negan while he leaves Alexandria doesn't go very well like most of Rick's past plans. Andrea and Dwight get into a fight that almost kills Andrea but lucky she gets one big push that pushes Dwight out of the clock tower. Negan lines up Heath, Holly, Rick and another Alexandrian resident, but before Negan can begin Jesus, Shiva and Ezekiel make it to Alexandria just in time to drive Negan and some of the Saviours away from Alexandria.
War is coming and now War is here the next two issues will put every character to the test and it's finally time for every man and woman to stand up and take the fight to Negan and the Saviours. to not only fight for another day but to fight for their own freedom.

Hey, that was a pretty solid volume for a change! Negan is still very thin as a character, but at least he's fun. Rick is acting very stupid, but that moves the plot along. At last, for the first time in the past ten or so volumes, something is finally happening in TWD! Curious to see how that war turns out.

I know I should take Negan seriously and be frightened of him but he just makes me laugh too much. That last quote about the helicopter dick had me in stitches!!! One of my favourite villains ever for sure. SO quote-worthy. WE'RE GOIN' TO WAR GUYS!!! Bring on Volume 20!

After 19 volumes of The Walking Dead, I’ve gotten a feel for how this series works – or at least I thought I did. Usually after a couple of exciting books full of action, Robert Kirkman takes a volume to cool things off and have the characters talk about what just happened. That’s what volume 19 started out like and I thought, bah, another boring build-up book – and then the second half EXPLODED!
Rick and Jesus are assembling a force to take down Negan, recruiting fighters from Hilltop and the Kingdom without Negan knowing about the tsunami that’s brewing right under his nose. But then he inadvertently kicks things off when he goes to Rick’s place to collect tribute while Rick’s away in the Kingdom making plans. Now this war is on!
It’s tricky reviewing a series this far deep into the story. Chances are if you’re still interested in this series, you’re going to read volume 19 whether the reviews say it’s good or not, in which case you’ve already read this and know what happened, so whatever I say won’t be a spoiler. On the other hand, maybe you’re reading this review and you’ve not read this far yet and want to know if it’s still a good series, in which case I don’t want to give away plot points, especially in this volume as they’re pretty damn surprising! At any rate, I’ll err on the side of caution and keep spoilers out of this review.
The thing you should know is when you put Rick and Negan together, sparks fly (and not the romantic kind)! The tension between these two is cray-cray and Kirkman knows readers are waiting for the moment when Rick kills Negan (it couldn’t be the other way round - could it?) and tantalisingly plays with that expectation here to thrilling effect. With this opening salvo, who lives and who dies?
And I have to say, if the Christian Jesus were half as badass as the Jesus in this book is, I’d have converted years ago! He appears and disappears from rooms without a whisper, he’s deadly without guns or knives, he moves like a ninja – he’s basically Batman without the outfit! I know Kirkman’s got a tendency to take out characters on a whim and, besides Glenn, there hasn’t been a character death – out of the dozens – in the 19 volumes that’s really stuck out, but I’d be really upset if Jesus got the axe! But you know if he did and he became zombie Jesus, someone would make the “I thought he was supposed to rise after 3 days, not 30 minutes!” line.
Also some of Kirkman’s trademark awkward dialogue makes an appearance here. Andrea repeatedly says to herself “we don’t die” referring to her and Rick, which doesn’t sound so much like dialogue as Andrea reading Kirkman’s notes after he forgot to write her lines.
Volume 19 starts slow but begins sprinting at the halfway mark and doesn’t stop until the end – it’s an absolutely blistering read! This human war – amidst the zombie apocalypse of all things – has begun and it looks like it’s gonna be the best thing to have happened to the series yet!

I think I may be done with this series this time. Rick's final confrontation with Negan is coming, he's building his forces, and he's confident that he can take them on and win.
But, but, but ... Rick shows yet again but how severly he underestimates Negan. The man may be a psycho but he has shown more than once that he is not stupid. When Rick takes what he sees as a golden opportunity to take Negan out when he is vulnerable, Negan proves just how much smarter he is than Rick but having proper backup. It seems that war is now inevitable, but on Negan's terms rather than on Ricks.
And yet, for all the stupidity that Rick shows here, people are still willing to follow him because "You're a leader we can follow" as Jesus says at the end of this book. Yeah, a leader they can all follow to their deaths. These are deaths I'm not interested in seeing any more.

Michonne vs Shiva happening??
Michonne is playing samurai, Ezekiel is playing king. Who would you choose? For me, it's the samurai.
Ezekiel is so cool for being able to bend the will of a literal tiger. What contributed to the submissive behaviour is the fact that he took care of Shiva since she was still a little cub. It might look scary at first to keep a tiger as a pet which eats way too much that is affordable in this apocalypse, but it can also protect.
Same Ezekiel, same. I love cats too. They might look scary at first but they're actually really cool.
The moment I saw Negan as the cover for issue 111, I knew this won't end well.
I hope Rick won't break his promise to Carl that he will kill Negan one day.

I'm finally back on The Walking Dead after a seven years break, and I still remember most of it, that's proof of how good this series is, and this 19th volume was no different, time yet for another war, maybe the biggest one yet, Negan needs to FUCKING DIE.

Another one in the endless comic series of The Walking Dead. Getting ready for that ultimate confrontation with Negan.
At the Hilltop. Maggie is dealing with something not to be mentioned to avoid spoilers… Rick is rallying the troupes against Negan, with varied results. People are tired and want to live in peace. Jesus helps. Aaand… that‘s not going so well. Almost.
In the meantime the classic supply run is happening… ?
There is more of the Kingdom as well. Oh oh, measuring the length of… whatever. Michonne wins…
This one probably reached new heights of profanity. So many shit and fuck and variations thereof on one page, page after page. Must be a new record.
Rick has to really become the leader they all need….

3.5 Stars. Well the next few issues should be super awesome as they are heading to war. This one was kind of slow and it did feel dragged out but a few good things happened. I really love Negan, he's so entertaining and messed up! Rick is still so annoying and the apple doesn't fall far from the tree because Carl is also annoying. Ezekiel and Michonne though?... Um yes! Michonne should be the leader, she is a badass!

This felt like treading water to me. We know there's a big showdown coming... Just not here. Next volume? Maybe. I would have been a lot more frustrated with how little happens here if it weren't for some of the more well-written scenes between characters, and if Negan weren't such a chillingly compelling villain.

This issue just jumps in straight after the previous one. Rick is trying to play the part of a broken man reluctantly serving Negan while building his rebellion by conspiring with Ezekiel and the kingdom to join forces against The Saviours. However, when Rick takes advantage of a situation to take out Negan, it exposes how large and powerful The Saviours are. Being saved at the last minute by Ezekiel, the kingdom and his tiger, Negan is forced to run back to his headquarters. Now the situation is clear; war has been declared.
This is the last in the issues of ‘building up the tension before the real action kicks off’ in how the Walking Dead books work. This was a decent issue. With a good mix of action and tension to keep the book fun and interesting. Basically, a good standard issue. I think the way that Kirkman wrote Negan, he was having a lot of fun letting rip on this larger-than-life villain and certainly brings a sense of twisted, foul mouthed dark humour to the books that really had nothing like it before.
A strong issue, but with nothing that rocks the boat of the series. For fans that have got this far, there’s nothing outstanding or new but also nothing that ruins the story or derails it. With a decent story and a good hook to show that important things are going to happen in the next issue

My notes on the next few volumes definitely lack detail. Unfortunately, my hubby was in the hospital for five days. While these were some of the only books I could focus on long enough to read, my notes aren't great. Good news is, my hubby is on the mend!
Without further ado, said notes (spoilers included):

-The groups are coming together with the common cause of fighting the Saviors.
-Jesus asks Hilltop to saddle up; Kal, a guard from Hilltop, gets the yips and rides off to tell Negan. Jesus intercepts him and they end up going back to Hilltop without ruining "the surprise."
-Ezekiel gets real with Michonne; they start to develop feelings for one another.
-Negan guts Spencer like a fish.
-Rick attacks Negan's group as they leave Sanctuary. He opens fire as Negan's group drives out. A hidden group of Negan's men fire back and thwart the attack.
-Andrea is physically attacked while sniping from a tower. After a tussle, she boots him off the top of the tower. Rick thinks the body hurtling towards the ground is Andrea's.
-Jesus and Ezekiel come riding in at the very last minute and save the day.
-Negan gives his men a pump-up speech: they're going to war.
I'd rate this book an R for swearing, violence and gore, and other adult content.

It's been awhile since I've read The Walking Dead, so it was great to get back into the world.
Volume 19: March to War follows the group as they prepare for war against Negan and his group. Rick is doing what he does best in this volume and that is protecting his group by any means necessary. At first glance this volume looks to be set up for the next volume. It does set up the next arc of the story, but there still is lots of action. A few things happen in this volume that I didn't see coming.
Overall, it was a great volume and I cannot wait to see what's in store for the characters.

We get a little more background on other community leaders that deal with Nagan; not sure what to make of them.
All I know, is that halfway through, the shit hit the fan. Rick went off half-cocked and gave us war-mongering fans some much needed murder and mayhem... I feel so twisted to have enjoyed it; but enjoy I did.
I am ready for this war. It may take the last 4 books in the series; but so be it.
I have 4 more to before I am caught up... I need a Book 25 to come out asap.
