This is the first in an interconnected, standalone series that follows the lives of four students that attend and graduate from Everson University, which is nestled into the small town of Everson Valley, North Carolina.

Harlow Sutherland is the top female swimmer on the collegiate team at Everson University. Excited for senior year and her last season, she decides that despite her desire to keep to herself, she’s going to go with her best friend to a party before classes start. however, everything falls apart when she has an accident that night, not only leaving her injured and unable to swim, but also the topic of all gossip on campus.

Banished to the rec center for her recovery practices, Harlow forms an unexpected alliance with head lifeguard, Shep Fords. He can’t seem to leave her alone and at first, she wants nothing to do with him, but over time, she realizes he might be the only one who can truly help her heal, both physically and emotionally.

Shep Fords has everything going for him. he’s a member of the top fraternity on campus, the head lifeguard at the rec center, and a proud dog dad . he thought he knew what his senior year would look like, until he shows up for a shift and a certain blonde swimmer who he knows to be injured is suddenly practicing in his pool.

Confused by her presence and intrigued by the rumors he’s heard, Shep finds himself going out of his way to learn more about this girl and challenge the gossip that’s circulating campus. though pushed away time after time, he continues to show up for Harlow with the hope she will one day let him in.

Ok so to keep playing my 2024 Bingo Challenge I picked up a dnfd book.

As soon as I started reading I immediately cringed and remembered why I dnfd this book.

The writing is totally juvenile. Wattpad-y. Amateurish?

The characters are wishy washy, all of them.

The MFC is spinless and clueless.
The MMC is stalkerish (not in a good way), handsy (also not in a good way) and lacking in self esteem when it comes to her. And don't get me started on the way he talks about his dog Dahliaaaa 🙄 and how proud he is to be a dog dad. KILL. ME. NOW.
Her best friend is also clueless and has no freaking clue what she wants in life and goes about "flinging" her way through fraternity brothers but never goes all the way 🙄
The OM is such a dipshit.

It's so frustrating though because the plot is really really good. And could have been a great book if a better writer actually wrote it. Sorry not sorry.

And as a last fucked up hurrah, after everything the OM, her ex, did to her she actually crumbles and mourns him. Excuse me WHAT?!!! May he rot in seventh hell you stupid stupid girl. Freakin' douchebag!!!!!

ORIGINAL REVIEW 👇👇👇👇

The writing is so childish, just downright cringey 🥴
The author tries so hard to make the MCs likable yet they come off as giggly teenagers facing their first puppy crush 🤦‍♀️

He goes home daily to his dog, "his first true love. His Dahlia girl" and recaps everything that happened to him during the day. 🙄 kill. Me. Now.

Yet I keep reading for some reason.

He's so into her business all the time that it's borderline stalker-ish and not in a hot dark kind of way 🙄

She on the other hand is so annoying, boring and stand off-ish. Ughh she gets on my nerves.

If you want an elementary read that lacks enthusiasm and sustenance then this is the book for you.

DNF'd at 23%

A shame really because I love an MFC athlete.
Obviously all her ratings come from ARC fans or personal friends!

I've been following Elle's journey since last year after reading her incredible debut novella (which you need to check out if you haven't already), Elle's writing is so easy to get into, it's fast-paced, immersive, and just flows beautifully.

I absolutely adored the main characters, Harlow and Shep. I connected with Harlow in so many ways, especially in her struggles. I wanted to give my girl the biggest hug! Her journey was so raw, and I really appreciated how Elle portrayed her growth. And Shep is the nicest and kindest character ever! His support and love for Harlow melted my heart. Watching their individual growth, as well as how they grew together, was so beautiful and well done.

Also, I appreciated how Elle tackled heavy topics like abuse, trauma, and PTSD with such care, authenticity, and compassion. These themes are so important, and she wove them into the story in a way that felt both real and respectful.

Oh, and I loved that it was a sports romance centered around swimming! It added such a unique touch, and the balance between the sport and the emotional journey of the characters was perfect.

If you're looking for a romance that has heart and depth, this is it. Elle is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors, and I can't wait to see what she does next!

this is one of the most beautiful books I’ve ever read and I’m truly honoured to have been one of Elle’s alpha readers for it. Harlow’s story alone is one that I believe everyone should read. from the friendships and the families to the trauma that Harlow goes through, every single bit of it was incredibly done. Harlow’s struggles, the way Shep helps her overcome them and show her that she’s worthy of not just his love, but everyone’s love, is told with so much thought and care. it’s heartbreaking and will make you sob, but it’s a story that I know beyond a shadow of a doubt needed to be told, for Harlow and for Elle and for anyone else out there in the same boat.

so thank you, Elle, for sharing this story with the world, and in case you’re reading this and no one has told you yet, you are worthy of the love you write about. 🤍

BETA READ

The first book I read by Elle was her novella, The Nature of Emotions, and from that first little snippet of her writing, I knew I would love anything she decided to share with the world.

SILY was no different - it was heartfelt, beautifully written, and so much more than just a romance novel. It was a story of overcoming setbacks, learning to love through trauma and heartache, and believing and loving yourself through anything life throws at you.

I won't give any spoilers or blurb, but I'll give you little intro's to our characters.

Harlow is our resilient FMC. She's a collegiate swimmer - top tier at that - has some black cat energy, but she's incredibly loyal to her close circle which primarily consists of her sister, Margot, and her best friend, roommate, and teammate, Lennon aka Lenny. Harlow is a hard worker, and she doesn't let many people in. She's honed in on her craft of swimming, and she has hopes to qualify for the Olympics in butterfly.
For a little "picture" of Harlow, when she's not rocking her swimsuit, cap, and goggles, you can find her wearing her classic Doc Martens, flannel, and jean shorts.

Shep is our incredibly kind, emotionally intelligent MMC. You can tell the man was raised by a great parent duo because of how he treats those around him. We (aka me) especially love his mom, aka Mama Fords. Shep is a lifeguard on Everson's college campus where our story takes place, has an adorable rescue pittie named Dahlia, and belongs to one of the campus fraternities. When he's not busy with school or working as a lifeguard at the rec center where he first interacts with Harlow, you can find him with Dahlia or hanging with his best friend Wes.

I can't wait for the world to experience this story! I don't always love the endings of books, but Elle knocked it out of the park with this one. She left us with something profound, but I'll let you read it for yourself. Just know - you are worthy of love - just like Harlow learns.

Tropes/Microtropes:
- college romance
- female athlete rep (swimmer)
- therapy rep
- friends that are soulmates
- he ties her shoelaces
- dog dag
- text threads
- he falls first
- slow burn x low spice

Stay In Your Lane - A Love Story That Swims Against the Tide 🏊‍♀️❤️

I received an eARC of this book (Thank You, Elle F. Sun) and here are my honest thoughts!

This book is a rollercoaster of emotions! Elle F. Sun has a way of pulling you in and not letting go. 💙

I finished this book in less than 24 hours and it also helped me get out of my reading slump!

Harlow and Shep are the perfect pair. Their connection is undeniable, and watching them navigate their feelings and past traumas was both heartbreaking and heartwarming. Harlow's strength and resilience are inspiring, and Shep's kindness and unwavering support are the epitome of a Green Flag. He's the ultimate supportive boyfriend. And I absolutely adored Dahlia🐕‍🦺💖

The book tackles heavy topics like Abuse, Trauma and Mental Health, but it's not all doom and gloom. It's a story about healing, finding love, believing in yourself, and finding strength with the help of the people who loves and cares about you!❤️‍🩹

There were some scenes where I had to control my tears from falling down but there are plenty of heartwarming moments too!

IDK if it was because of me being in my luteal phase, but I loved how this book is slow burn and has low spice!

Although I would recommend this book, I’d also advice to make sure to read the content/trigger warning before diving in as it includes pretty graphic details.

If you're looking for a book that will make you laugh, cry, and cheer for the characters, "Stay In Your Lane" is a must-read, releasing on 13th September.💙🦋

This book. This book is so damn special, I want to cry just thinking about it again. I have had the honor of being friends with Elle for a few months now and when I got the document to read this book, I knew it'd be special; I just didn't know how much it would mean to me. Elle took how I have been feeling when it comes to my relationship with my mom and dad and how I used to be treated because of my sport and the domino effect that happened to me when I got injured and quit better than I could've ever put into words. As someone who's an athlete and has been injured numerous times throughout my career, i have never ever read about an FMC has been struggling with something that I personaly went through so personally, done so incredibly well that I have literal tears in my eyes just typing this. This book, while it is fiction; it has so many elements that people can relate to so deeply and I am so honored that I got to read this early and experience this wonderful masterpiece. I haven't truly been able to stop thinking about it, I literally go back through my favourite quotes of it all the time just to feel something again.
This book is truly a one of a kind and I am so honored and genuinely am so proud of Elle for creating such a special, meaningful, personal, beautifully written book. And I can't wait to be able to scream more about it.

Oh My Word!!

Shep and Harlow are seriously the best! This book had me in my feels for the whole entire time I was reading it! I laughed and cried throughout the whole book, I definitely cried harder near the end! Definitely some sad tears but also alot of happy tears!

This book definitely deals with some serious topics but they don’t ruin the story! They make the story want it is, and definitely gives awareness to the serious topics! I would recommend checking out the trigger warnings first just to make sure you are aware of what will come up while you’re reading!

I absolutely loved how Elle wrote this book and I seriously cannot thank her enough for choosing me to be an ARC reader for Stay In Your Lane! I cannot wait to see what is next for the talented Elle!

Tropes

- Golden Retired Male Main Character

I gave this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ because it seriously deserves nothing less than 5 Stars!

I recommend definitely adding this one to your TBR list!

First of all I have to say thank u @ellefsun.author very much for giving me the opportunity to read this arc. I’m so grateful for the opportunity she gave me, It meant a lot to me🖤
My God, what an amazing read! This book undoubtedly left me emotional for a few moments, the themes covered in this book, the way it is portrayed is incredible to the point of making any reader suffer together with the characters. Harlow is so brave and strong, I’m so proud that she has a Shep in her life to try to protect her and to love her the way she deserves and of course to help her overcome her fears and anxieties after everything that happened. From the first moment I cheered for our Shep who is a real man, a true green flag this man became a haven for our Harlow and never gave up on her. He noticed in every detail of Harlow, he always tried to remain respectful and the fact that he is so cute with his little dog Delilah my God🤭
Shep and Harlow were and are such special characters!!! I loved the dynamics of both🥹🖤

This book was so amazing so full of emotions I loved it and I know I won’t be the only one!!! The author is undoubtedly to be congratulated for creating this book, I can already say that I will be looking forward to what the future holds for her as an author.
I can say that as soon as this book comes out on the 13th of this month I recommend you to buy this book!!!🖤🦋

I couldn't put down this New adult, romance drama.

Angsty, and at times very emotional. If your are looking for a spicy read, this is not it, although there is some spice. That is not what this book is about.

Why do I call it a romantic drama? Because it deals with some real life issues (Intimate Partner Violence-Abuse). Please read authors note.

Harlow is a student athlete (swimmer) who has been banished by her coach to rehabilitate at the recreational center following "unacceptable" behavior that resulted in her injury. Everyone whispers and gossips about her now.

Shep, also a student, works at the recreational center as a lifeguard. He "sees" Harlow and knows there is more to her injury than the whispers that follow her. As he watches her, he has a deep seated desire to get to know her and help her if he can. Shep is a true gem.
Harlow is reluctant at first.

Shep's kind persistence and care slowly breaks down her walls and as this happens, terrible truths are revealed. But will Harlow be willing or able to stretch out and receive the help she desperately needs? And if she does, will it be enough?

I loved the friendships and family bonds displayed and as usual, I end up wanting to know more about the side characters.

I will definitely be keeping my eye out for the next books by this author!

If you’re looking for a book that will break you and then heal you and put you back together again then this is the read for you.

There’s so much to take away from this one book. There’s romance, trauma, healing (both physically and emotionally), friendship, heartbreak, and happiness.

I was not ready for this book to end, I just wanted more of Harlow and Shepard.

This isn’t your typical, she needs him to heal. Harlow puts in the work and sees how truly beneficial therapy can be. And eventually she sees that it’s okay to not be okay and to let others help you.

My sweet shep boy, you call Harlow one but you’re truly an angel. Thank you for never giving up on what you wanted and for being the patient man you are.

Dahlia you really stole the show though girlfriend🫶🏻 well along with momma fords that it

Harlow my sweet girl, you deserve the world. And im glad you put yourself first and got yourself out.

As always, check your trigger warning and protect your peace my friends. And to anyone who has been or is still stuck in a situation like harlow’s, I hope you find the strength to do what’s best for you and leave. No matter what, im proud of you and you’re so strong.

Wow. Just wow 🤩 I have no words 😭 (this is gonna be the worst review ever because I don’t know what to say.)

Stay in your Lane was so good that just thinking about Harlow and Shep makes me want to sob and weep my heart out. I really don’t know how to put into words how much I love them. 😭

Their story was so incredibly beautiful. It made me feel so much, even though I’ve never experienced anything close to what either characters did. I cried, I laughed, I swooned and giggled, I fell in love with the characters and their story, then I cried some more. It wrecked me, broke my heart then glued it back together. I also fell for some of the side characters. Especially Momma Fords, Lennon and Wes. And Dahlia, such a sweet girl she is 🥰

They were all I thought about. This book consumed me. It even got me excited to go to school because it meant I could read on my way to and from. I never wanted to put it down.

Harlow’s and Shep’s story left a mark on me and it will forever have a special place in my heart.

Thank you so so much for the arc copy!! 💋

“Stay in Your Lane” by Elle F. Sun

Harlow is a star swimmer at Everson University until an incident at a party leaves her with a dislocated shoulder just before her senior season begins. Banished to the pool at the rec center for her rehab, Harlow quickly grabs the attention of lifeguard, Shep. As he watches and gets to know Harlow little bits at a time, he realizes there’s more going on than meets the eye. He also realizes he’s quickly falling for this beautiful butterfly girl. As Harlow is forced to face her demons, will the budding relationship between her and Shep withstand the trauma?

Okay, I loved this story. I love a good sports romance, and I loved how different this one was. The FMC was the athlete, the spice was *much* less, and their relationship was beautiful. I also loved the besties, Wes and Lennon, and Momma Fords might have been my favorite character. This was an excellent book that tackled a hard subject with care, forgiveness, lots of love, and grace.

Emotional start to a planned Everton Valley series with its primary conflict, intimate partner violence, hitting home hard from the start of the book. Author took her own life’s experiences to help with this story and it showed. Our FMC finds herself off the swim team to rehab an injury to her shoulder at the schools Rec center. Our MMC Shep lifeguards there and we follow him as his crush for Harlow teeters on creepy and then downright stalkerish. I think he was too intense at times, especially when dealing with someone in Harlow’s situation, but he seemed to mellow out at bit. Lost a star for me because it came off way too intense with the “mines” especially for someone coming off a relationship like Harlow’s and her abusers, which at the core comes from control. Author’s knowledge on this subject shined through when it came to what Harlow was feeling during and post relationship. Support characters and an awesome Mrs. Ford, rounded out the group of support both main characters had. Overall enjoyed start and can’t wait for more to come.

A special thank you to Elle, for giving me the opportunity to read this beautiful book in advance. And what I read it was…

First, I need to mention how I loved the little details and the tittles in each chapter 🤌🏻 PRECIOUS!

This was such a roller coaster of emotions. Elle F. Sun has such a power with words that will, with no doubt, make you have all the emotions trough out this book.

The characters are pure perfection and I felt such a connection with them that I didn’t want to let them go 🥹

The book covers really important topics (abuse, mental heath and trauma) and are written with great care. Although I would with no doubt recommend this book, I totally advise you to take a look at the content warnings.

🦋 Do yourself a favor and add this book to your TBR. It releases September 13! 🦋

Stay In Your Lane follows Harlow, a swimmer in her senior year in of college and about to start her last season with the team. Before classes start, she goes with her friend to a party before the chaos of the season begins, but she gets injured, making her unable to swim. On top of that, her coach banishes her to the rec center because he doesn’t want her to”impacting” the team. While in recovery of her injury, she beginner to notice this annoying lifeguard staring at her and the rest is history.

Harlow is so relatable to any collegiate girl and any athlete out there. Elle really brings me back to that time period in my life. You fall for Harlow and Shep separately and then you fall for them together as they work through their own personal struggles within.

What a fuckin book. This thing tore me apart and Shep helped put me back together. He's such a gentle character and I adore how patient he was throughout this entire book. And Harlow and her hard edges. They fit together so perfectly.
The care taken to show trauma and how someone can deal with that trauma is well done. It didn't feel rushed like some plots can be and it felt so real.

This book is for those who believe they are too broken to be loved. For those who believe that they have too much baggage for someone to ever come alongside them and help carry it. This book is for those who are healing from things they may never talk about.

Stay In Your Lane deals with so many complex and real issues. Elle has managed to capture the messiness of human emotions and what it means to “suffer” in silence. She handles these complex and personal topics with so much care and we see it through her characters. There is a rawness and true humanness to this story.

Harlow the FMC is fierce, driven, determined and guarded. She has such a complex storyline and is such a good representation of fighting through pain and suffering and coming out stronger. Watching her grow throughout this book is beautiful. Seeing her learn how to deal with her “baggage” and let those closest to her in is something to admire. I see so much of myself in her. Her willingness to suffer in silence in order to not burden those around her.

Shep our MMC is the kind of man any girl would dream of having. His patients, love and steadfastness is admirable. He is the perfect pair to Harlow. His gentleness towards her and his willingness to wait for her as she is figuring herself out. Shep is the ideal man for those who are struggling. Showing that there is someone out there who will truly see all of you and still pick you. Who will come alongside you and help carry your baggage with you.

Harlow and Shep’s story is one that I didn’t know I needed until I began to read it. To watch them grow as individuals as well as a couple. To see their lives begin to intertwine and mold together. These two bring something special to the world of romance.

As for the supporting characters they bring another level of depth to this story and will capture the hearts of readers. Their relationships to Harlow and Shep help drive the story and bring them together in a way not many could.

Overall, Stay In Your Lane is a beautiful story that goes far beyond the “traditional” romance genre.

Update:
I just read this again, and ugh I just love it. I’ll forever be so down bad for Shep & Harlowe.

This really just reinforces the fact that we don’t always see what goes on in someone’s head or behind closed doors.

The writing was so smooth and flowed so well, I was surprised (all over again) when I looked up from the end, only to find that I’d read it all in one sitting.

If I could give this a literal one million star rating, I absolutely would. I CANNOT wait to read more from her and the world she’s created. You can feel the love she has for her characters and can see the pieces of herself she’s left in the book.

Sitting down to write this hurts. It hurts, because this book is over, and I'll never be able to go back and read it again for the first time. It broke me and put me back together.

In this book, you will find...love. You will find yourself loathing some people and their actions depicted. You will giggle, you will bawl, your eyes will probably leak like a faucet, so please make sure that you have tissues on hand. You will find the bonds and ties of friendship that show that friend soulmates are a real thing. You will find the goodness in peoples hearts, and the blackness of others. There is banter, there is wit, there is on page therapy, because MENTAL HEALTH MATTERS. YOU matter.

There are dark topics that happen and that are discussed in this. This one...this one changed my soul. It resonated deep within my heart, and I don't know that I'll ever be able to get over this book. Please, if you want to read this, check the trigger warnings, and then move forward. It's beautiful.

Shep Fords...he is top tier. He is a man after my own heart, and I'm down so damn bad for him. I love him, and I love his loyalty and his steadfastness.

I will accept no criticism on this book, it's literally perfection. Words don't do it justice.

**Stay In Your Lane - A Heartfelt Review**

I’m still reeling from the emotional whirlwind that is *Stay In Your Lane*. Receiving an early copy of this book from Elle F. Sun was an immense honor, and I can’t thank her enough for letting me experience such a profound story before its official release.

From the moment I turned the first page, I was utterly captivated. Elle F. Sun has crafted a narrative that doesn’t just tell a story but immerses you in the lives of its characters. I finished this book in less than 24 hours, and it pulled me from a reading slump with an intensity I haven’t felt in a long time.

The journey of Harlow and Shep is nothing short of magical. Harlow’s strength and resilience in the face of her past traumas are inspiring, while Shep’s unwavering support and kindness make him the epitome of a “green flag” partner. Their connection is palpable and deeply moving. Watching them navigate their emotional landscapes, with Shep standing by Harlow through thick and thin, was both heart-wrenching and heartwarming.

Elle F. Sun doesn’t shy away from heavy themes like abuse, trauma, and mental health, but she handles these topics with such grace and depth that the story becomes one of hope, healing, and the power of love. Dahlia, Shep’s adorable dog, adds a sweet touch that makes every scene even more endearing.

As someone who has struggled with personal challenges and injuries, I found parts of this story resonating with my own experiences in ways that were both cathartic and moving. Elle’s ability to translate complex emotions and experiences into words is extraordinary, and the book’s impact on me was deeply personal.

There were moments when I had to fight back tears, but there were just as many instances that filled my heart with warmth and joy. The slow-burn romance and low-spice nature of the book suited me perfectly, adding to its emotional depth and authenticity.

Before diving in, I do recommend checking out the content warnings, as the book includes some graphic details. But if you’re ready for a read that will make you laugh, cry, and cheer for its characters, *Stay In Your Lane* is an absolute must-read. It’s a book that not only entertains but also touches the soul.

Elle F. Sun has truly created something special here, and I’m thrilled for everyone to experience this heartfelt masterpiece when it releases on September 13th. Prepare to be moved, uplifted, and profoundly touched by this beautiful story. 💙🦋

Elle gave us a beautiful tale of two souls who were searching for something missing and found it in each other. Their connection is something so visceral, so profound, so beautiful, but has an underlying thread of self consciousness that makes it so relatable. Par for the course, she ripped my still beating heart from my chest but found a way to repair the damage.

Stay in Your Lane is a college sports romance about an unlikely pairing of souls. We have our withdrawn black cat swimmer, Harlow Sutherland and our emotional guru golden retriever lifeguard, Shep Fords. After a shoulder injury lands Harlow in PT at Shep’s rec center she has to find a way to make it back to her identity and love as “Harlow the swimmer”, while trying to avoid the pool boy. This proves to be more difficult than anticipated because Shep is somehow everywhere.

While all of the above is true, this book is also so much more than just this. It’s a story of sifting through past trauma and overcoming it, confronting and facing daily demons, speaking up even when our voice seems so small in a room full of shouts and screams. Silencing those who think we aren’t good enough, those that tell us that we can’t, but also letting those in who are champions for us, even when we can’t be that for ourselves. It’s beauty in slow motion, like seamless strokes of a swimmer underwater.

Elle had me laughing, swooning, screaming, crying and on the verge of jumping through the book. I’m beyond grateful to have gotten to grace these pages with my eyes and I’m changed for the better. This book is one that represents mental health so well, even the smallest details add up and they make me FEEL SEEN.

🦋I love you ma’am, I love SIYL, and I love love love Shep & Harlow. I never wanna let them go. 🦋

firstly, thank you elle for the arc! 🫶🏼

i had high hopes for this book and could not wait to get my hands on it and elle completely left me speechless with stay in your lane.

please read the trigger warnings before you read!

the story follows harlow and shep, two souls that knew of each other but not personally.

as someone who relates to harlow and her history, elle did a beautiful job of portraying harlow and not just her emotions but her deep vulnerabilities. following her struggles, we see how difficult her injury is on her but she still persists. i personally really love harlow because she’s relatable. she’s a little rough around the edges but nevertheless the sunlight still peeks through.

shep on the other hand is totallll cinnamon roll material. i love his personality and how he cares for his friends and harlow. he was persistent and even when harlow didn’t want him there, he made sure he kept his distance but never faltered. shep knew what harlow deserved and didn’t stop until he could give her that.

i absolutely love the found families and friendships written throughout. lennon and harlow actually make me feel sooo alone irl so im taking bestie applications asap! shep and wes’s friendship is one of my favorite bromances. I SAID WHAT I SAID. and we can’t forget momma fords and harlow scenes, my eyes were never dry. ever.

as someone who’s a mood reader and i read pretty slow, i finished this book in less than a week and literally could not put it down!!

The feels! The characters are so loveable and they just pull you into their world.

The whole story feels real, the way it shows you mental health battles and trauma but also therapy and healing gives you full emotional rollercoaster. These themes are not simple, but they're written well in beautiful but real way. The characters aren't perfect, they have their flaws like everyone else.

To the characters:

First of all, Shep is adorable! Golden retriever MMC, and a lifeguard? And he knows how to communicate and deal with *gasps* his emotions. Totally swoon worthy. Oh yeah, and he has a rescue dog 🥹

Harlow, who doesn't love a good black cat FMC? She is the athlete here and I loved it! Determined, witty and strong-willed but has her walls up. She is fully committed to her sport, thinking her future plans are clear until they're not anymore. With everything that happens to her, her character is well and thoughtfully written.🖤

And the sidecharacters too! Harlow & Shep aren't only loveable ones.

You also see friendships and different kinds of family relationships, and the importance of them with the mental health themes. This really was something I personally liked seeing!

I just liked writing in this, okay. There is overlapping when same scenes are told in both POV's, but it doesn't get too repetitive. There was few moments when I got confused like "wait where are we now" when both chapter & day/place changes but that's probably just me lol. 😂

It's fictional book, but I liked how real it feels. It's not one of those stories that "only happen in books" if that makes sense. And chapter titles!! Didn't know I missed them so much.

Overall enjoyed reading this! Would recommend and I can't wait for the next books of the series 👀🫶🏻

I loved this and more people need to read it ASAP.
This was a romance but honestly it was mostly about our FMC healing from toxicity and a MC who was the epitome of patience and understanding. Shep was the perfect person who just wanted to be there and take care of Harlow.
This story was filled with people who supported each other and I loved that there was a focus on Sheps mom having a connection with Harlow. The writing in this book was truly incredible given that this is a indie author with not that many reads YET because people need to start picking this book up, I cannot wait to read more by this author, I see her writing getting better and better the more she publishes.
Now for my one “complaint”, cause I always come up with something, is Shepards plan for the formal frat event because to me it just didn’t make sense. Why would he have to go with Lennon instead of taking Wes? Now I could’ve missed something, but it seemed like Lennon was going to the party either way, so why couldn’t Wes go as Sheps plus one, he would’ve been an extra set of eyes on Harlow. This isn’t a dig at the writing, more like the characters though process, which again could totally be on me not seeing an explanation because I have an awful memory, but I feel like I would’ve remembered it.
Anywho… read this book. No regrets and I don’t feel like it was unnecessarily long and a waste of time, which is a problem Ive had with a couple of the books I’ve been finding. No shade.
