This children’s adventure is an easy read, with a likeable half-breed vampire battling against evil.

Vlad is half-human and half-vampire, and all this means in practice is that most hate him for not belonging to either faction. But when his parents go missing and his nasty vampire relatives come to stay to “look after him” (i.e. torture him until he gives up the family secret treasure which he doesn’t know about), he sets off on an adventure of a lifetime…

Well-written, pacy, and fun, this is great children’s fiction. Be warned though – this is clearly the first book in a series and does not end in a clearly resolved storyline. But an enjoyable read, with the right doses of good-versus-evil and adventure. Recommended.

Logan's thoughts ...
I loved this book! Vlad is really funny, how can you be a vampire if you don't like eating meat? Doesn't he even eat bacon sandwiches?
I didn't like it when Vlad thought his mummy and daddy were dead, that mad me sad and when the others came to steal his money, they made me mad!
But when Vlad goes off on his adventure, I was really excited! He did loads of fun things and I wish I could do that too ...
I didn't like that it ended – I want to know what happened and can't wait for the next one!
My thoughts ...
This is a fantastic adventure for children! Vlad is just adorable, an eleven-year-old half human, half vampire who hasn't fully become a vampire yet, and he doesn't like meat, oh, and he has asthma too ...
Then his mum and dad disappear, and his evil family turn up to 'help' him, which in vampire terms means steal his inheritance. This sends Vlad off on the adventure of a lifetime.
A fast paced and well-thought-out plot, Vlad the Inhaler is perfect for any wanderlust-filled child. Too old for Logan to read on his own as he's only six but he adored it and, we had a great time reading this one over a few nights. We couldn't do just one chapter, he's turning in to me!
It helped him to understand that even eleven-old-year old vampires are scared sometimes so it's OK for him to be scared of things too.
I strongly recommend this for any child, even the younger ones as it is gripping and a wonderful adventure!

In the start of this exciting and beautifully illustrated series, the teenage hero, Vlad is an asthmatic hupyre––part vampire and part human. When Vlad’s evil vampire relatives––Aunt Valentyna, Uncle Viktor, cousins Gretchen and Boris––tell Vlad they have killed his parents, and attempt to takeover his family castle, Vlad sets out on a quest to defend his family name, his inheritance and, most of all, his life.
Pursued incessantly by his lethal vampire relatives, Vlad goes on the run, starting a roller-coaster string of action-packed adventures that kept me turning the pages. In a riveting climax, Vlad must prove to the people of Malign village that his is not an evil vampire: he does not murder, nor does he drink blood. He must demonstrate that he is proud to be a hupyre.
I would highly recommend Vlad The Inhaler for the 8-12 age group, but this tale’s interest is not restricted to children. As an adult reader, I found myself smiling at the author’s clever puns and plays on words.
I was offered a free copy of Vlad The Inhaler in return for an honest review.

The book is about a huypre (half human half vampire) called Vlad who is asthmatic, whose parents have gone missing and he thinks his parents have died and his evil relatives turn up and want Vlad's Dad's profit. To make everything worse his Mum was human and his Dad a non sucking vampire, his evil relatives hate hupyries and want to kill him.

I loved this book because it was so amazing and descriptive, I didn't want to stop reading and kept reading way past my bedtime as was enjoying the book so much. I am really looking forward to the next one and rate this book ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

From my 9 year old:

Vlad the inhaler is a phenomenal book. You can expect plenty of shocks and thrills as you read it. Vlad is quite a changing character and throughout the book he develops different skills that normal vampires have. I'm really looking forward to book number 2.

Actually this is a 4.5 Star review. Good plot, interesting points of betrayal and a great cliffhanger. It was a very fast pace moving from scene to scene really quickly, maybe too quickly.

Got this for my ten year old and ended up reading it myself! Great story, imaginative and doesn't shy away from the gory side of vampires. Vlad is a very likable hupyre, with an impressive array of vampire tricks! Will definitely keep reading the series to see what happens next :)

Review by Beth

Vlad the Inhaler is a funny and quirky take on the traditional vampire tale. Written for younger readers, the novel tells us the story of poor young Vlad, the half-human vampire hybrid who struggles with his new life with his evil relatives. Without his parents to protect him Vlad is surrounded by poisonous cousins and family members who want rid of him for good. It takes some odd friendships to see Vlad through the horrible situation.
Vlad is an odd hero, not many weedy asthmatics become the star in their own novel so he should definitely be applauded for that. Mace has created a fun and quirky character who it’s hard not to empathise with and root for. His evil vampire relatives try as hard as they can to belittle and dampen his spirit but despite all his foibles, Vlad has the strength of character and the backup of his pals to find a way through.
A speedy read which is packed full of action and humorous quips Vlad the Inhaler is a masterclass in punnery. It’s impossible not to laugh along, whatever age you maybe, as Vlad runs to escape his relatives and the author utilises a wry sense of humour to keep the tone light and fun for younger readers.
The climax of the novel is brilliantly sharp and there were a couple of will they, won’t they moments which kept me guessing and took this novel from a simple ‘watch the hero get his happy ending’ to one where there was a chance that maybe Vlad was going to become his relatives next meal.
Travel from Dank Forest to Malign Village with Vlad and be prepared to chortle.

I received a copy from the author/illustrator in return for an honest review. Wow, what a fun book! My son and I read this during a car trip, passing the Kindle back and forth. I didn't think he'd take to it, he hasn't read much paranormal things but we both got into Vlad and his adventures. Even my husband, as a lifelong asthmatic, was intrigued. The story was unique—a fun, fresh perspective on vampires and werewolves. The illustrations were wonderful. Really just a terrific read, either out-loud or to yourself.

My review over this book is really good I like how you put Vlad half human and half vampire. Then I like how you made his friend Rexus half human and half werewolf just like him, and how you made Vlad find out his vampire powers and how he still doesn't what to be a full vampire but likes all of his vampire powers.

Till next time - Sweets Books

A fun story about a young humpyre, half human and half vampire, who has asthma. He has vicious and conniving relatives who want to take over his property. He has to fight to find friends and defeat his relatives. A fanciful story for young readers who like vampires and werewolves.

Comical

This is a good story for children just getting into chapter books. The characters are a bit cartoonish but likeable (or hateable, as the case may be). The story is comical, but also filled with enough tension to hold a child's attention.
