Of all the creatures I could have accidentally mate bonded with, did it have to be a dragon slayer?
I never let my dragon take control. Never. Distraught after the death of a friend, I made a mistake…
Finding a beautiful, broken viking on the verge of death in the middle of a forest, all of my instincts screamed at me to save him. My dragon wouldn’t have it any other way. For two-thousand years I’ve saved my mating fire, waiting for fate to bring me true, binding love. But with this stranger only a breath away from the afterlife, I didn’t have a choice.
I can’t really be mated to a dragon slayer, can I? There has to be a way to break this bond before his brothers come looking for him or mine realize what I’ve done.
The only problem is, the more time I spend with the captivating, big hearted man, the more I think that fate might have had a hand in things after all…
Is he feeling it too, or am I about to get burned?
Mika Nix is the combined paranormal alter egos of USA Today Bestselling authors of MM romance, K.M. Neuhold and Mia Monroe.
As Mika, this dynamic duo plans to light fire to your kindle with their upcoming series, Drake Security, featuring swoony brooding dragon shifter brothers as they discover their fated mates. It’s a guaranteed thrill ride.
In their spare time, they…oh let’s be honest. They’re always writing. Follow along to stay connected to their shenanigans.
Dragons obviously have long tongues ... Need I say more? So a bit of quick, pointless entertainment for in between. There's definitely not really an interesting plot and what little there is, is resolved rather quickly and boringly at the end. But what is well done are the emotions that Lord and Alrick develop. Even though everything happens super fast because of the whole fated mates thing, the development comes across well. And of course there are some delicious sex scenes and nicely enough they are not so over the top here.
I hook my hand around the back of his neck and kiss him harder, teasing him by slowing the pace, then speeding up again before he can catch on. I keep him guessing as I stroke his tongue with mine, then retreat before doing it all over again. His mouth slackens and his lips soften with a barely audible whimper as he gives in and lets me plunder his mouth with deep, hungry licks. The sound goes straight to my balls, making everything inside of me vibrate and tighten with anticipation. I barely register that we’re moving until I have Lord pushed up against the nearest tree, flattening my body against his, bringing our hard cocks flush against each other through our clothes. 🌶️🌶️🌶️
What else? No, I think that's it. The series is not designed to generate any depth. It's really just nice entertainment with smut.

Content warnings: death of dragons, abuse by father and brother, a lot of injuries to main character Cheating between MCs: No Other person drama: No Breakup: No Kinks: dragon tongue rimming, face fucking, knotting
This was a really nice end to the series but I honestly could have done without the random third person POV of a random elf half way through! It completely threw me out of the story and I felt like the dragon Mage's brief explanation of events near the end was more than adequate instead of that.
I also felt like nothing actually happened? It was a pleasant story but not memorable for me.
I also felt like the dad and evil brother should have been charred by the dragons because they were irredeemable, but to just use a curse as a reason for the dad's vileness felt like a cop out. Not all characters have to be good deep down, and I really think that if they'd been truly villainous characters and got their comeuppance I would have liked the resolution better. It was all just too cookie cutter cute for me, which I guess matched the dragon hoard, but I do prefer a bit more substance.
5 scorching ⭐️ Oufff. I had high expectations for this because of my slight obsession with Lord since book one. I was anticipating his story, and I’m not disappointed 🤩 Lord and Alrick are beautiful together. They didn’t understand their connection at all, especially Alrick since he was in the dark about the bond thing, yet it didn’t stop them from letting go and just enjoy each other ❤️ Alrick broke my heart. His family are a bunch of spineless delusional assholes who were hellbent on killing as many dragons as possible, with no reason whatsoever, other than the shit the father was feeding them. I loved how Alrick always resisted and stood firm on not killing any, even if that made him a “disappointment” in his family’s eyes. Lord, OUFFF LORDDD, that man… his character was actually a bit complex. He was soft yet strong, very in control of his emotions up until Alrick showed up in his life. I absolutely loved each and every interaction they had, from the moment he saved Alrick, to how he nursed him back to health, to their slowly growing relationship ❤️ Yet Lord was such a badass, he made me go feral for him.
The Viking doesn’t know who he’s playing with. I may not be as cunning as my brothers or as practiced at deceit, but I perfected my bluffing and my poker face before the game was even invented.
Okay Daddy dragon 🐉
I absolutely loved how they were dancing around each other at the beginning, neither wanted to admit that they knew the identity of the other, and while it was funny at times, it was absolutely heartwarming 🥹
“Sounds good to me,” Alrick says. “I’m so hungry I could eat a drag—” He coughs to cover up his slip, but it didn’t get by me. Alrick offers a faint smile that I return.
Throughout the book, these two were so sweet and endearing it gave me a toothache 😩 Even though technically they are supposed to be enemies, they never truly were with each other. It was beautiful how they slowly built their relationship. I LOVED how they let the emotions from the bond guid them towards each other. They felt what the other was feeling, and they worked with it to understand and get closer to each other ❤️ The sweetness, the warmth, the passion, the hotness… it was everything. All of their scenes were perfect. I loved the one in the hoard room towards the end 🥹
“My dragon was hoarding them for you.” “Before you even met me?” He cups my chin and bumps his nose against mine. “You were always my destiny.”
Arghhh my heart 😩❤️ The last chapter was absolutely amazing, I LOVED LOVED LOVED how we saw, from Lord’s eyes, all the other previous couples and how happy they were. It was the PERFECT ending to this series ❤️
Once upon a time there was a sad, lonely dragon who gave up on love, but one day, a mighty Viking showed up and filled the dragon’s heart to overflowing. The two lived happily ever after. And it was absolutely worth the wait.
Beautiful series, but this was of course my favorite book in it. Lord and Alrick absolutely stole my heart, both of them so sweet and protective and precious, I couldn’t help but adore them ❤️
P.S.: I just want to say to the character from the chapter “A Situation Brewing”: you are a bitch. Okay that’s it. Ta-ta ❤️
A Enemies to Lovers MM romance with Dragon Shifter x Dragon Slayer Human! This was such a fun ride, even tho I haven't read the others in this series (I really need to now lol!). I loved Lord, Alrick & the cute meddling family 🥰 (Confrontations are my fav part!).
The blurb + cover had me intrigued so I'd checked this out & skimmed at start but then I was totally hooked halfway through. All the dynamics are fun & I didn't feel too confused despite this being in series. It's also my 1st Mika duo book & definitely won't be last!
Lord is the eldest of his dragon-shifter brothers (of their clutch). He's uptight, caring & prides being in control, but that's until he finds a wounded man in Jungle & mates him to save him... Alrick is of Vikings line & his family are dragon hunters. But Al himself has never been able to actually hurt a dragon (+1 point). He's cautious but also kind.
On surface, these 2 should not be together. Their families are enemies with different values. That's why Lord takes em on a jungle journey to break the bond (unbeknownst to Al) but during those days together, everything changes. Closer, longing, Hate to Hopes & wants. Is there a way they can actually live as mates?
Can I just say that I love that Alrick's bigger than Lord but L got the dragon strength & knot so...hot!
With the setting, the angst was surprisingly relatively low side. I loved to see 'em open up to eachother & the sexy chemistry 😍🥵. I LOVED when all secrets & truths come to light for all, it's always so fun 🤭. The protective possessiveness is awesome! The climax had me IN (F em Elf 😤!). I liked the resolution we got, the ending & epilogue's sweet 🥰.

"I want to keep him. The feeling grows more intense with every moment I spend with Alrick. But I can't. I can't. I can't."
I've been waiting for Lord's story I feel like forever! He's the "big bro." The one who is always looking out for his clutch brothers. He's dependable and is usually the calm one when it comes to all the brothers dealing with a crisis. That is what makes it so surprising when Lord's dragon leads him to a man who is dying in the woods. A man who will most definitely not make it unless a miracle happens...or you know, dragon mating fire getting breathed down his throat.
"He smells like home. He smells like mine."
Of course things couldn't just be easy for poor Lord. Find this man, save his life, and live happily ever after in mated bliss. But that isn't the case here. Once Alrick, the man Lord has saved wakes up, it's discovered he's part of a legacy of dragon hunters. Of all the people Lord could bind himself to, a dragon hunter would likely be the worst, at least in his family's eyes. It doesn't matter how much Lord's dragon wants him. Alrick is not theirs to keep.
I really enjoyed the slow burn with this one. Both men are drawn to one another, but they fight it so hard. Alrick has to go against everything he's been raised to believe. Dragons are evil and mindless beasts who will kill you without a second thought. Yet Lord saved him. He could have let him die and yet he saved him. Far from a mindless beast. It couldn't have been easy to learn the truth about all the lies he'd been fed. It also would have been even harder knowing that the man you are falling in love with is someone your family would never approve of. Then again, the reward is having Lord love him in return for an eternity. I don't think anything in the world could top that and thankfully, in the end, neither did Alrick.
What a way to finish off such a fun and creative series! Burned is book 5, and the final book of Mika Nix's dragon shifter Drake Security series, following the 5 brothers as they each find their fated mate. I have loved them all so much, and have been especially waiting to see Lord find his. He has always been the strong protector, leader, and big brother to all his siblings... and the guy really needed some love!
Alrick is his sweet mate, but for a little twist, is also a Dragon Hunter! This could have easily been an enemies to lovers, but I loved how it was instead done as a sort of star-crossed lovers and forbidden romance. And then of course, the dragon accidentally bonding to his human at the very beginning of the book, unbeknownst by Alrick, made for some great story telling as these 2 stumble their way along to their HEA!
The spice was spicing and the swoon and swooning for these 2. It was also found family at its best that left me with a big old smile on my face!
This was such a cool world that was built and we have seen so many interesting side characters of all different sorts of species. I can't wait to see what might be next... so many possibilities for spin offs! 🤞
I was so worried that I wasn’t going to like Lord. Turns out, I needn’t have worried. He was just wonderful. And Alrick was this golden retriever of a man that I adored.
This series has been great. I love the world building and the close relationship between all the brothers. But Lord has always been different. A little aloof, more responsible and the more serious of his clutch mates. So I was so curious about who his mate was going to be. Alrick, against all odds, turned out to be his perfect match. The way they danced around one another at first and all of their suspicions was adorable.
With all the spiciness and swooniness we’ve come to love from this author duo, Burned did not disappoint.
⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ This one was a bit anticlimactic for me. And I think because I had different expectations from Lord. Still really enjoyed it! And loved having them all together again!
Burned is the fifth and final book in Mika Nix's (author team Mia Monroe and K.M. Neuhold's combined pen name) Drake Security series. Although you could probably read this as a standalone, I think this series is best enjoyed in order. Here's what you can expect from Lord and Alrick:
🔥 MM paranormal romance 🔥 First person dual point of view 🔥 Guaranteed happily ever after 🔥 Dragon shifters (no mpreg) 🔥 Accidental mates 🔥 Fated mates 🔥 Knotting 🔥 Star-crossed lovers 🔥 Dragon shifter and the dragon slayer
It's always hard when an amazing series comes to an end, and I thought the authors did a great job with this Drake Security finale. Lord, the eldest in the Drake clan, has been an important fixture in the previous four books, so I'm so glad he got his well-deserved happily ever after! One thing I've really appreciated about this series is how different the books are from one another. Although they center around a family of dragon shifters, we get different "species" pairings and tropes sprinkled throughout. In Burned, we get a dragon shifter coupled with a human, however, not just any human. Alrick comes from a long line of dragon slayers, much to both him and Lord's horror.
This book was such a fun ride! I love how there was a bit of a suspenseful edge to it as Alrick's family was actively hunting Lord's clan. The accidental mating was so different to the rest of Lord's brothers, but it was the perfect start to their roller coaster ride love story together. The spice in this book was epic, just as it has been in the last four. Although I'm sad to say goodbye to the series (and hey, Mia Monroe and K.M. Neuhold definitely need to team up again!), I think they did this family the perfect justice and gave them an incredible sendoff. I was pleasantly surprised how the plot with Alrick's nasty family ended. It certainly wasn't what I expected, and it was the happiness that Alrick deserved after the misery of his life. I also enjoyed the subplot with the powerful witch from Scotland, and she made me laugh out loud at times. Overall, a fitting end to a series that has brought me a lot of joy and some great reading this past year.
Once again, if you're looking to dip your toe into paranormal romance, I think this would be a great place to start as we meet dragon shifters living in a contemporary setting, and there's no mpreg if that isn't your cup of tea. It's a great blend of some of the elements that both authors are known for on their own. Highly recommend!
"I slide off his back more gracefully than I climbed on, and in a blink, the towering dragon is gone and the beautiful man I’ve spent days with is back in his place."
This is book 5, the last book in the Drake Security series. I'm so sad, I love these guys. Each of the brothers have now found their mates and I'm sad to see the series come to an end. The writing duo of Mika Nix brings out the best in both of these authors and their books are so good. I can't wait to see what they have in store for us next.
I actually teared up in this one, it hit me in the feels right off the bat. I think this was my favorite one in the series but don't quote me on that since I've probably said that with each and every book they've written in the series. Just when you think it can't get any better... it does. The only thing that would have made this book better was to add an extra couple hundred more pages, lol.
Burned is the fifth (and final?) book in Mika Nix’s Drake Security series, focusing on five dragon shifter brothers. Each book features a new couple, but the brothers and their mates appear in each other’s stories and there are some continuing plot points and call backs to prior books here. At the end of book four, Inferno, we learn about the attack on Lord’s friend, setting up the events of this story. So while I think you could probably follow along here, I definitely appreciated being familiar with the whole series.
I have really enjoyed this series and appreciated that while the first two books had a similar structure and vibe, things have branched out with the other three and really taken the stories and the world building in new directions. If you are a fan of paranormal series, this is definitely one to check out.
Lord has always been the stoic, rule-following older brother who took his older brother duties very seriously. I’ve been waiting for his HEA and was not disappointed... 😊
Lord and Alrick were perfect together and I love that they got a really good story.
This series has been so well-written right from the first book and I’m really happy I stuck with them all.
The brothers and their mates constantly appearing throughout the series is always wonderful to see – it emphasises the closeness of the family and I liked that a lot.
Lord is most certainly my favourite of the brothers and Lake will forever be my favourite among the mates... 🥰
If you love a good dragon shifter series then you definitely won’t want to miss this one.
Burned is finally Lord story! This is an enemies to lovers, fated mates romance. Lord and Alrick was a great read. Lord is the older of the Drake’s brother he is very protective of his family and knowing his fated mates is a dragon hunter is messing with him. Alrick is a Dragon hunter and all his life he believes that dragons are monsters they need to be killed his all his family are hunters for generations. On a fly home Lord’s dragon finds an almost dead body, his dragon is pushing Lord to help him and he share his dragon fire with him, bonding them forever. Then he takes Alrick home with him were he is helping him heals. Lord realize what Alrick is and he is disappointed that his mate is a hunter and they need to serve their bond, together they embark on a journey to find a the witch that could help them. This journey is going to show them that fate never make mistakes and they are perfect for one another! I like how the story develops, Lord and Alrick are drawn to each other and experience the strong connection they have. The story have a lot of interesting moments and I love watching all the Drake’s and their mates together. This was another great read!
What a wonderful way to end a series! All the good stuff - great characters, a love story that requires real heart and an ending that causes the heart to warm.
Lord was a secret romantic under all his protection for his brothers. I loved that his fated mate was a large Viking of a man who needed all the love and romance Lord had stored up. Their adventure into love was not an easy one but one well worth every angsty pain they went through. This was my favorite book of the series.
Lord deserved so much better than this mishmash. The plot endings were so obviously contrived (yes, even for dragon romance) and filled with one straight-up MacGuffin, if not two. I feel like Nix wrote half of this and then was just over the series and threw the other half together; what a disappointing end to the series and offering to Lord, whose story I've been waiting for since the first book.
Audio update Michael Ferraiuolo proves once again how much of a master he is at his craft. His arsenal of accents is something to be in awe of, making for a memorable audio experience each and every time. Alrick Norwegian accent is something I have not heard before and admittedly took me a minute to adjust to, but once did just suit him beautifully. A perfect audio experience.
The wait is finally over! Lord, the head of Drake Security, as well as the brother who has hoped the longest to find his fated mate, finally gets his time. Alrick has grown up to believe all dragons are ruthless monsters and need to be killed on sight in a family raised to kill and shown little to no love. On one fateful evening, the Lord finds a nearly dead Alrick and choose to share his dragon fire, bonding them forever. This is just the beginning of the story of a dragon and his dragon slayer. Once Alrick is healed, the two go on a journey to sever the bond and once again their separate lives. As we all know, fate doesn't agree, so she shows our men what is like to be wanted and loved from their mate. The action keeps you pulled in throughout as with previous Drake Security books of dragons and their unlikely pairings. I am looking forward to seeing where Mika NIX will go now that the original brothers have found their mates.
I would have given it 4 stars, but the first 11 chapters were very repetitive. Also, I loathe the endearment "treasure"; the author has used it in more than one book now in this series, making it no longer special. Besides, it just sounds stupid.
4.5 stars Lord has been the older, uptight, stoic, in-control, protective Drake brother. He has helped as his younger brothers found love and mates but wondered if fate passed him by. But one day, his dragon compels him to save a dying Viking, and his whole world is changed. Now the most logical Drake has made what could be seen as a really big mistake. For he has bonded himself to a dragon hunter.
Alrick Havaror is a human raised in a tough hunter family. There was no love and only training and single-minded beliefs that dragons are evil and should be destroyed. But Alrick has been the shame of his family and has not performed like his brothers or father.
As Lord helps Alrick heal, they embark on an adventure. Lord has a mission in mind to do what he thinks is right under the circumstances. And Alrick is following along and buying the cover-up story. But along the way they are dealing with an attraction, connection, passion, and bond that is growing stronger. But the situation with their families seems impossible and Lord is not sure how Alrick would accept the secrets he is keeping.
This is a heartfelt and steamy romance between star-crossed lovers, species enemies, and unexpected soulmates that could be either the biggest mistake or blessing in their lives. I loved Lord and Alrick together. Alrick is just the sweetest guy that was starved for love and Lord is just so protective and thankful of having a mate to care for even as he struggles with the fact he might not be able to keep him. They will need help to figure out a possible way forward to deal with all of the challenges and threats against them. And it definitely deals with life-or-death situations.
It brings in all the Drake brothers and their mates and introduces a few new interesting characters. It had some twists that made the story unpredictable. I really enjoyed this one and the family epilogue. I am sad that this is the end of the Drake brothers but hope these authors write more together in this paranormal world.
Burned is a fitting way to end the Drake Security series, with Lord’s story and his tortured enemies to lovers, fated mates romance.
Lord’s been that character with the older brother syndrome. Stolid, serious, constantly in control and ever watchful over the family business as well as all over the family, including his brothers, their mates, and younger clutchings.
So it makes sense that his story is the very antithesis of his life and nature. It’s dramatic, compulsive, and absolutely terrifying, the opposite of how he’s been living and taught.
Mika Nix , aka authors K.M. Neuhold and Mia Monroe, mirrored his impulsive acts toward a specific target, his fated mate who happens to be his worst enemy, a dragon hunter. That’s a fatally wounded Alrick Havaror, a young Viking from a notorious dragon hunter family.
Lord and Alrick have matching angst filled emotions towards each other as they fight their own battles with the bond and their backgrounds. I really enjoyed this element of the story. They were well suited and their journey was full of chemistry and communication.
While we are very familiar with the Drake family and their mates, Alrick’s history and family background could have used more development, especially given that ending. Considering the foul deeds his father, older brother, grandfather etc have committed, that end wasn’t exactly satisfying, even with the overlaying factor of kinship.
New wonderful characters included Viggo (middle brother of Alrick’s), and Xanthis, a powerful Scottish dragon mage who promptly flirts with Dahlia. And while the authors let us know what happened with the two women, Viggo, who had an important role and his own journey here, oddly vanished from the story. After being told he was from now on a permanent member of the Drake family. SMH
If they say he went home with good old dad and brother. No. That doesn’t track as both authors had him say he wanted to remember the events and what they had done and everything that had occurred. So no.
Big narrative hole here and missing character.
So Burned ends up a good story but not a great one. I enjoyed the couple but there’s quite a few stumbles narratively speaking that keeps this shy of 5 stars. Still a lovely series and one I’m recommending.
Drake Security series: - [x] Hot Head #1 - [x] Smoulder #2 - [x] Wild Fire #3 - [x] Inferno #4 - [x] Burned #5 - series finale
""Once upon a time there was a sad, lonely dragon who gave up on love, but one day, a mighty Viking showed up and filled the dragon’s heart to overflowing. The two lived happily ever after. And it was absolutely worth the wait.""
What a perfect way to sum up Lord and Alrick's story! This story was full of angst, lust, grief, betrayal, found family, and of course, love.
I've thoroughly enjoyed all of the books in the Drake Security series so far, each brother has their own uniqueness which I love, and I've always been curious about Lord. In the other books Lord is portrayed as this rigid, tense, older brother, and while he is definitely some of those things, (to a degree), there is so much more to him that that. He's thoughtful, kind, protective, and cares deeply for those around him that he cares about and loves. I liked being able to get to see/know a different side to Lord, him being in love was really cute to see. I'm really glad he found his mate after all this time!
Alrick was a surprise! Whenever I thought about who Lord's potential Nate could be, it never crossed my mind that his mate could be a dragon hunter... But to my surprise, that's who Fate paired him with. And honestly, it was a good pairing. While both these men are different from one another they both yearn for Love, and to have a partner that accepts them for who they are and loves them regardless. The way they met is unconventional, but that's how Fate intended it to be.
As the story went on I got to learn more about Alrick and his family. In the beginning I wasn't sold on Alrick being Lord's mate, I mean... Alrick hunts and kills dragons, right? Overtime though I learned that he wasn't like his father and brother, he has no interest in harming dragons. Throughout the course of the story we not only learn more about Alrick and his family, but we also get to learn more about Lord as well. I loved the relationship building between these two men, it was done so well! What a nice angsty slow-burn, that bubbles into more!
The mysterious dragon mage was quite a unique character, I love her personality and humor. Overall another fantastic story in this incredible dragon series!!
I have (temporarily) caught up on the read-asap-arcs so...why not read something that's debuted from one of my favorite series in the last couple of weeks? Here's Mika Nix's "Burned." It's the fifth and final boook in their Drake Security series.
["Of all the creatures I could have accidentally mate bonded with, did it have to be a dragon slayer?
The only problem is, the more time I spend with the captivating, big hearted man, the more I think that fate might have had a hand in things after all…
Is he feeling it too, or am I about to get burned?"]
Can I just say that I LOVE the fact that when Lord sleeps, he snores! Not only that, but he breathes little puff of smoke!! D: I can't!! That's far too adorable. And, and, AND how he calls Alrick "my viking"!?!?! AND "my treasure"!?!?!??!?!?! I'm dead; I've swooned too hard.
The fact that Lord has cookie cutters in his hoard is just...so fucking vulnerable and soft and sweet (and perfect for Alrick).
Speaking of Alrick, he's sooooooo freaking perfect for Lord. He's also very protective and likes to take care of people and has never let himself be vulnerable. He's living a life he doesn't love, seeking a place to call his own.
I wonder what Mika will bring us next??? Mac (will might never learn his lesson)?
This book was so deliciously good. Lord and Alrick are enemies to lovers, forbidden, fated mates romance with shades of star-crossed lovers perfection. I really loved the push-pull dynamic between them weaved together with their deep emotions. The story drew me in from the very first sentence and kept me hooked until the last one. It was definitely a stay up too late, cannot put it down, it should get more than 5 stars kind of book. Lord is a dragon shifter who owns a security company with his brothers. He is the oldest brother and has spent his life being careful and controlled and cleaning up after his brothers. Alrick is a human whose family have been dragon hunters/slayers for centuries. After Lord returns the body of a dragon friend to the dragon’s family, he flies home but his dragon reroutes him to Alrick whose body is ripped open and is near death. Lord gives him his mating fire to save his life. Now he just needs to break the mating bond before Alrick or his family learn of it. Of course, feelings never stay in the box we assign them to and soon there are all kinds of feelings between them. To get a HEA together and embracing the mating bond seems impossible but fate and some magic helps to find a way. This well written story was delicious perfection and included engaging dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and a captivating storyline with sweet moments, spicy scenes, real life issues, imperfect characters, painful pasts, dangerous situations, evil actors, laughs, messy families, fate, supernatural creatures, and all the swoony love. I loved this whole series and all the brothers’ HEAs and am sorry to come the way the end.
Lord finally gets his HEA! As we’ve seen throughout this series, Lord has been waiting for his turn to find his mate after all his brothers have slowly been finding theirs. As the one to takes care of everyone else, it was about time for Lord to also find someone to take care of him. I have loved that as we’ve gotten further into this series we have been getting introductions to new pairings that shouldn’t make sense on paper. We’ve seen demons and werewolves getting paired with the brothers, but who would have thought it would be a dragon slayer’s turn! Of course Lord is unaware he’s mating himself to a dragon slayer when the time comes, but he quickly learns he may have let his dragon make a huge mistake. As it turns out, Alrick may be more than he seems and not just the ruthless dragon slayer Lord assumes he is. The chemistry between Lord and Alrick quickly becomes apparent despite both of them thinking the worst of each other to start. It was fun watching the two of them try to fight the pull, but slowly learning more about each other and coming to realize fate may not have been so wrong after all. I also loved getting to see the rest of the brothers and their mates together working to make sure Lord keeps the HEA he deserves. I am really hoping that we will be seeing more of this world with brothers from other clutches or other supes we’ve happen to come across on all of the adventures!
I think I enjoyed this story the most out of the series (though, if I’m honest it’s been quite a while since I read the first 3, so recency bias is entirely possible).
I still wish more had happened on a personal level between the MCs. Insta-love is fine and believable when we’re talking fated mates but I always enjoy the romances that build onto that insta-love. You want to believe even without fate the MCs would still choose each other.
The only thing I outright hated was the thing with Judre’s family. That was icky and invasive under any circumstance but to do to your friends without first verifying it would even be “necessary”? I’d have preferred Judre’s family being left as a possible loose end to them showing up at just the right time, ready to help the Drakes, only to have their minds messed with and then ‘poof’ suddenly they’re gone again.
I will always prefer a happy ending but this ended a little too easily, I would have liked it a little more if it felt better ‘earned’?
All in all, a decent series. I kept coming back for more. I’d definitely read a book if/when Mac gets a spinoff, maybe? (Or the vampire friend..? Who I think I remember liking and hoping to see more of but don’t really remember because it was a while back now..😳)

This is the 5th in the Drake Security series, and it's finally time for Lord's story. This could be read as a standalone but much better enjoyed as part of the series as all the brothers and mates make appearances. Poor Lord has watched all his brothers find their fated mates and that's pretty much all he ever really wanted for himself. I always felt kind of sad for Lord, he was always there helping his brothers yet never finding that missing piece of his soul for himself.
When he finds a dying viking in the forest, his dragon is drawn to him immediately and he doesn't hesitate to mate him to save his life, his dragon knows even if he doesn't. My heart honestly ached for Lord through this one too, knowing he'd found what he always wanted yet being so willing to give it up as he thought it was something he could never have. I liked Alrick too, pushing back against his upbringing with an abusive parent and sibling as best be could, and I loved their story. There's much more dragon in this book than previous stories, that fits perfectly for these two and it was such a joy to read their story and find out how they managed to get their HEA.
If this is the last of the Drake Security series, it's certainly ending on a high note.
A fitting end to this series, ending with Lord. We were all wondering what kind of mate he would get and lordy, was Fate on a roll with this family. The beginning of this book was a bit confusing for me since we started after a conflict we hadn't known about before. Once we got through that, the story was smoother. I liked the progression of the relationship between Lord and Alerick, although I felt like it was kind of sped up a bit for the story's sake. I also didn't really like the addition of the fae creature who coordinated the altercation between Alerick's family and Lord's. We get no closure with him, nor do we find out anything else about the dragon mage or the magic involved in the dragon hunter's bodies. These few things they introduced within the last 20% of the book would make great continuation/jumping off points for a spin off of some kind in the future, but I doubt it will happen. I feel like I've been reading this series for a few years now and I'm sad it's over now, but thankful that I can still reread it when I want.

In the final book of the Drake Security series, the stakes could not be higher. Dragon hunters have hit close to home for Lord and his brothers. And it's just his luck that one such hunter happens to be his mate.
The connection between Alrick and Lord gets off to a rocky start. But as they get to know each other, they learn about each other, and they learn to trust each other. Alrick looks past what his family has been brainwashing him to believe, and Lord learns that Alrick isn't the hunter his family has tried to train him to be.
Of course, as is customary with the Drake brothers, nothing comes easy. Alrick may not enjoy being a hunter, but he has family who do. And that family is very dangerous, and very much a threat.
As far as series endings go, this book was the perfect ending for this series. I'm extremely pleased with the Drake brothers, and how they each found their happy endings.
While I see the potential for more to come from this universe, I am also completely satisfied if it were to end here.
This is the final book in the Drake Security series. I think you can read this as a standalone but really you will enjoy the entire series. I was most excited to see what lay in store for Lord and the author didn't disappoint. The fiercest dragon of them all and he finds that his fated mate is a dragon hunter! You know that the scene is set for drama and excitement. And this book delivers. Finding his mate near death, Lord saves him only to find out that he is a dreaded dragon hunter. Alrick, in spite of being a hunter, is actually a kind and nice man. Exactly who Lord needs in his life. This is their story. The book is written very well and is easy to read. I loved watching how their relationship grew. How Lord is willing to give up everything to make Alrick happy. And the surprise solution to their family problems at the end was a nice twist. I enjoyed reading this book. It was a great finish to this series.
I received a complementary advanced review copy from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
