Hearth's Warming is a time for friends and family to come together, celebrate harmony, and welcome the new year. Nyx is looking forward to just this as she rides the train to Canterlot with Spike and Twilight. She's going to meet her extended family for the first time and wants nothing more than to make a good impression. Yet, the sheen of the holidays can't hide the trouble caused by meddling grandparents, relentless reporters, and a paranoid uncle.
I loved it almost as much as Past Sins, though not fully. I didn't like how Shining Armor was portrayed at the beginning, but I liked that he came to his senses. But apart from that, it was perfect ❤️
The plot is a lot less "dangerous" this time around - it's more about feelings/emotions than physical problems. Even though there's almost no real action for any of the protagonists, it's still nice to know you don't have to worry about anything bad happening to them. Nyx is still her adorable innocent self, while Twilight is still her protective motherly self. It was nice to see how the two get along when they have nothing to fear. There was even closure with the main antagonist from Past Sins, Spell Nexus. And it was really satisfying, too.
I only recommend this to those who have read Past Sins - there is too much continuity to be able to read this one alone.
