Mystery, suspense, attitude, heartache, Darkness, and everything else. Traded from one monster to the next. Will it ever stop? Nikolai is mad at what Rose's father did to his maid. How is he going to get her back? What is her father doing? If he gets her back will he let her go back to her father again? Cliffhanger. Can't wait for the next book.

This book was even darker than the first. Such a wild ride as things keep changing for the characters. Lots of steamy scences and many secrets are revealed. The ending will have you begging for the next book.
Please be aware of triggers, rape, kidnapping, abuse, adult content
If I thought book I was dark, book 2 is a Tartarean! I felt as though I had been thrust into the pits of Hades, barely able to keep my churning fear at bay. Fear for Rose that is...talk about from the fire into the frying pan! Yeah, sorry, no spoilers so you'll have to find out yourself but let me tell you it's tense! Intense! Dramatic! Have you downloaded it yet????
Rose is a character of many contradictions, what she thinks, what she feels, what she does, what she says are all completely opposed to each other, although each one of these is with an intensity one feels, I could really understand her conflicts. I love that she refuses to take things lying down, well..... tongue in cheek, she does...but it's her snark and her attitude that stand out. She gives as much as she gets. Her relationship, if we can call it a relationship, with Nikolai is so complicated, desire, hate, love and need all rear their head as they both try to deny any of it. The steamy scenes between them threatened to burn through my kindle!
The situations Rose finds herself in are horrific and that's putting it very mildly! Which is why I said I was fearful for her....the author never let up for a minute, keeping the tempo on a high note throughout and I honestly had no idea if Rose would come out the other side physically or emotionally intact. Very vivid violent scenes, not only physical but mental ones too. But through all this trauma, Rose discovers so much about herself, her childhood and what she's capable of.
Nikolai is actually a very likeable character, strange to say that I know, he's a Mafia boss, he's ruthless, he DID kidnap Rose but the glimpses from his POV opens up a different Nikolai, a gentle Nikolai, a Nikolai who guards his heart with a fierceness that would rival the best swordsman. I loved his perspective of events and his thoughts, really insightful. The full picture is not yet displayed in all it's gory details, just snippets of past and present, the burning need for revenge and a vengeance that is a constant.
But like all things in life, when does a plan ever turn out as planned? That ending had me gasping and desperate for the next book!
Part of the Mafia Rose series they need to be read together will have you on the edge of your seat so hang on and buckle up this is a wild ride, dangerous men, alpha’s personified, possessive, oh, gorgeous, brooding all the makings of a story consisting with three D’s (dark, delicious, and dirty) 😊. There will be suspense, betrayal, death, darkness, secrets reveled, violence, hope, forgiveness, and maybe even love (ALL THINGS TO EXPECT FROM THE MAFIA WORLD). By the time you’ve figured out who is who and what is what, you’re already hooked, and you may as well give up the fight and prepare yourself for an all-nighter! CAN’T SAY YOU WEREN’T WARNED!!!!!. THERE ARE TRIGGERS JUST LIKE IN BOOK ONE SO READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!! Wow….. trust me you will cry a few okay a lot of tears for Rose the truth, she has learned but in the hardest way possible she doesn’t know if she is coming or going on most days but she never stops believing in herself although, she do wish her mother had told her the truth instead of keeping it hidden and so when she is taken she has no control her attitude betrays it all. She is a pawn played in game no one told her the rules or even made aware she was part of so angry is an understatement. Nikolai sexy is all get out ruthless, brutal makes you want to hate him for everything he has done/doing to Rose especially knowing she knew nothing of her heritage but when you read his dialogue with himself he has the capacity to love but, he can’t afford to get his heart involved because for so long he was lead by revenge….still being lead by revenge but Rose woke something up in him, something he can’t deny no matter how hard he tries and his love (shhhh he hasn’t acknowledge the love yet) won’t allow him to let anything/anyone hurt her but of course he isn’t going to let her know that but now that he has been her strength to rise up from the ashes will he still protect her, she will never accept being a pawn, will her father get what he deserves, will Nikolai have to beg, work to earn her trust, will he save her from a fate worse then the one he has imposed upon her, and where are these two headed? ( I really hate cliffhangers).

3.5 Stars Thorn is an intensely raw, dark, and gritty sequel with a unredeemable morally grey villain and an innocent young woman caught in the crosshairs. Readers are thrust into the gut-wrenching reality that Nikolai follows through on his plan to sacrifice Rose by allowing her depraved father to capture and imprison her. Nikolai is truly cruel and heartless to knowingly deliver Rose to the most wicked and twisted man that will surely break Rose in ways no one can imagine. She’s simply collateral damage in a war between families.
Nikolai’s internal battle dealing with his conflicting feelings toward Rose was absolutely infuriating. He craved Rose’s body and dreamed of keeping her forever but denied those desires at every turn. I don’t think I have ever read another male main character as frustrating. Rose has been so abused and manipulated that she struggles to fight against Nikolai’s advances. She was self-aware enough to know she would never mean anything more to him but she kept handing over her body to be used. Yes, Nikolai saves her from the clutches of her father but only because his original plan for Derek to take Rose to his hidden lair didn’t work. He needed her back to dangle her once again as bait. No, I didn’t believe for one moment that Nikolai felt any softness toward Rose. I believe the author was trying to make Rose appear stronger with a better backbone, but to me, she came across as weak.
The schmexy times were written incredibly well and I did love the tension between the couple. The scenes were very dark and readers should heed author’s warnings.
This book ended on another cliffhanger. My hope is that Rose gets away from this awful world (including Nikolai) and finds the happiness she deserves. At least if she ends up with Nikolai after all of this, he really needs to devote chapters and chapters of groveling.
Tropes: Mafia romance, contemporary romance, captive romance, enemies-to-lovers, age gap Heat: 5/5 TW: Please check trigger warnings as there are many instances in this book that may be troubling for some readers.
OMG another freaking phenomenal book in The Mafia Rose series by Brooke Harper. This is book two and it just keeps getting better and better each time, and man was it intense. I just can’t even begin to put in to words how perfect Rose and Nikolai are together, even with their internal struggles with their feelings for each other. These two are insanely hot together with a chemistry that knows no bounds even with their love hate relationship, lots of heated moments between these two in book two.
We pick up right where book one left us, Rose was taken by her father. But it’s not a reunion she’s happy about, she knows she’s not going into a good situation. Feeling betrayed, used, and alone she still finds herself wanting to go back to Nikolai even after everything. Nikolai has a plan, he wants it all, but he also wants his Rose back where she safe, even if she’s not safe from himself. These two have so many struggles to get through in this book, internally and in their day to day messes. But they also have some serious character growth too, individually and together. The second part to their story truly must be read.
Not going to lie but Nikolai will frustrate you and make you cuss him out on many occasions but he truly grows on you and shows some redeeming qualities. Especially the sacrifice he makes that leaves us on one heck of a cliffy. I truly hope these two can get on the same page and finally come together to get the revenge they now both deserve more than ever. Can’t wait for the next book to find out what happens next!! Highly recommend this series!!
⭐️Tropes⭐️ - Dark Mafia Romance - Enemies to Lovers - Captive - Age Gap - MF
Whewwww yess! I have been waiting on book 2 and let’s just say it did not disappoint! This book picks up right where book 1 left off and let’s just say you’ll be stressed and kept on your toes until the very end! Where alas, another dang cliffy! I’m honestly super stressed and sad after that ending and I need book 3 asap!
I loved the character development in this, especially from our FMC Rose. Despite being betrayed by not only her father who should love and cherish her but is instead a total POS who wants to break her and the man who she started to have feelings for and trusted, Nikolai.
You hate for it to be so but Nikolai follows through on his plans and delivers Rose to her father and all around your heart just breaks for that girl! Is she a formidable force to be reckoned with? Heck yeah! But dang does she deserve better!!!
Nikolai is basically a walking red flag and is a morally dark grey character! The internal battles he deals with by considering doing right by Rose was stressful to say the least! He definitely needed to do a bit more soul searching but he’s slowly growing on me! I don’t want to give to much away but there is a lot of twists in this book and the author will have you all in your feels. Not all those feelings will be positive lol
I definitely recommend this book if you enjoy a dark mafia romance with a very morally grey H. More like a villain but like I said he’s growing on me! 😂
Whew this was a hot one. Rose and Nikolai are fire!!! Rose can't catch a break. Picking up where Book 1 leaves off; Rose realizes that it isn't a coincidence that her father has kidnapped her but Nikolai allowed it to happen.
Nikolai is your classic antihero who doesn't try to be the good guy but does things that maybe difficult at first but he has a reason for allowing them to happen.
The s3xual tension, edgeing and dominance that occurs between Rose and Nikolai is SPICY. Nikolai is still trying to convince himself that Rose is just there to satiate his lust but yet the mere thought of her leaving him after he achieves his goal of destroying her father leaves him in a jealous rage.
This story is dark and violent like a Mafia romance should be. Nikolai does not treat Rose tenderly; he is very domineering and possessive but she always feels safe even when she regrets losing control behind some of his less than desirable actions.
Nikolai maybe an Alpha A-hole but he protects Rose at all times. Rose's father is spiralling and won't stop until he has Rose back as his bargaining chip. War is coming and there can only be one winning side.
This book ends on a Cliffhanger leaving you feeling shocked, sad, angry and frustrated because you have to wait for Book 3 to get answers.
UGH. Wish I had DNF’D. Only reason why I continued is because the first book left off on a cliff hanger. Definitely could have spared my self the wasted time, because what I anticipated was going to happen, happened. This book was ick vibes x1000 of the first book, and it wasn’t because of the MMC it was because of the FMC dad. The dad was a literal monster and reading what the FMC was subjected to, while being held captive by her dad made me sick to my stomach!
You definitely got to see the more sensual side of the MMC, but he still gave me ick vibes. Giving her no clothes, only letting her wear a slip or one of his shirts. Making her wear a bejeweled collar with his initials and then parading her around the restaurant with a leash attached to it?? I was like wtf am I reading. Once again a whole lot of smut. And like I’m all for dirty talk/ pro active language because I love smut books, but the amount of times the writer used the c**t word in this book, was disgusting and amplified the ick vibes!
The same situation continued to keep happening over and over again. Honestly wanted to throw the book when the MMC gave the FMC back to her dad again, and subjected her to domestic violence all for his own benefit. This book once again left off on a cliff hanger but I will not be continuing the series.

WOW!! This book kept me on the edge of my seat with twists and gut punches! It was an emotional rollercoaster! Rose has definitely grown some thorns! She's amazingly strong and resilient. I love her awareness of the situation. In romance fairytales- the FMC knows the MC is dark and a "monster", but he can love her and change for her. Rose is definitely aware that Nikolai is a monster. She knows the situation is effed up, that she shouldn't feel anything for him because he will never love her. There's a huge miscommunication between her mind and body because her body can't help but respond and crave Nikolai. On the other hand, Nikolai is having similar miscommunications between his mind, heart and body about Rose. His mind is telling him he doesn't love, but then his body is constantly acting, almost instinctually, towards her without him even realizing it. It's leaving him confused and upset. Both of their character developments was amazing!! Rose growing out of her innocence and naiveté and Nikolai starting to feel. And then there's a whole backstory to Rose and Niko that she vaguely remembers. I'm loving the direction Brooke Harper is taking with this story and characters. Nothing is simple, it's all layered. I can't wait to see what happens next!!
I like this series but not necessarily the men in this series. This is book 2. This continues the journey of Rose and Nikolai. This series is a dark mafia age gap romance with explicit scenes, and extreme violence. It does have trigger warnings. In this book, Rose was mostly broken. I think Rose lost her fight. Nikolai planned to use Rose to get back at her father. Nikolai can complain about about Rose's father but he is just the same. Rose is emotionally attached to Nikolai because he was her first everything. Nikolai just isn't a good man. Nikolai continually talks about using Rose then getting rid of her. Even though Rose knows this she just can't help herself. If Nikolai cared or had a heart he wouldn't keep putting Rose in jeopardy. Nikolai definitely doesn't deserve Rose but I don't think Rose will ever willingly go away from Nikolai. Rose should run far away from all these evil men in her life that want to control and use her. I hope Rose gets smart and more independent in the next book. Rose also needs to turn the tables on Nikolai because right now he holds all her power and he knows how to use it.

Wow this series really hooked its claws with this book. It felt like this book was a bit darker and edgier, I think that a few things played into that , including Nickolai realising that Rose was more than a means to an end. There was a lot of personal growth with both Rose and Nickolai, But I think Nico was too stubborn or to much in denial to admit it to even himself, Rose also struggled with some things she was discovering about herself and I felt like the authour did a fantastic job at expressing the thoughts and feelings Rose was experiencing so that we as the readers could empathise and feel her struggles as well. We did get Nikolai’s POV as well, that was always really interesting to read, he has been through so much and trying to process his thoughts and feelings about Rose has really got him wound up and confused! The relationship between these two characters is so complex and entertaining, I love the push and pull in the “lighter” moments and how Rose really starts to discover herself. I am enjoying this series, it's a different kind of read for me and I am glad I picked it up! Its well written, the characters are really well developed, the plot is fantastic, its steamy, dark and that ending was anxiety inducing!
Thorn, the second book in the Mafia Rose series by Brooke Harper is a dark age gap mafia romance and did not disappoint!!! If you love your romances captivating my dark and full of so much heat, action and suspense that it takes you on the ultimate of emotional roller coaster of rides—this is the one for you!
What can I say besides the fact that Rosalind is pure fire!!! Her father and Nikolai may have thought they had broken her, that she was “tainted” and nothing more than a puppet to their mastery—but they were wrong! I absolute love what Harper has done with this character, and how far she has come since we first saw her: she’s fierce as hell, strong, independent and a force to be reckoned with.
And if you dislikes Nikolai after the last one, just you wait and see!!! Because holy hell have these characters evolved! Both individually and as a couple, and I just absolutely love the entire arc Harper took them in and how she created their story and the chemistry between them.
If age gap mafia romances are your thing, then definitely grab this one now! And as always, be sure to check your triggers first as this story does go a bit darker then the first but oh so worth the read. And all I know is that i can't wait to see what happens next and I need more, more, more!
Good Development 😃 *MF *Contemporary *Dual-POV *enemies to lovers *insta-obsession *Mafia *revenge plot *Triggers!! *2/3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 After the cliffhanger at the end of the last book Rose realises she is truly on her own and just a pawn in a far wider game 😩 What’s more is her time at the compound is bringing back memories of a life she’d suppressed! 😬 and wow is her father a piece of work 😡 Whilst Rose is living a nightmare Nikolai is having to take a closer look at those funny niggles in his gut and what they might actually mean, especially after he stages an intervention! But can he really let go of his revenge plan and how it hinges on using Rose against Derek?!?! There’s definitely been an improvement in character development in this book from the first one, we get more of Niko back story and his angst over those pesky feelings, there’s some element of grit and backbone coming out in Rose but I feel this one is certainly more on Niko’s progress 😃 interested to see how this develops in next book especially after that end!
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "THORN" WOW!!! This is definitely a dark twisted rollercoaster ride full of revenge, suspense, intrigue, danger, abuse, kidnapping, rape, emotional turmoil, twists that make for a very addicting Mafia Romance. Nikolai is a very complicated man dominating, control freak, seeking revenge on Rose's father Derek he kidnaps her uses her body as his revenge plot, it awakens something inside her, she now has plans of her own, she's a Rose full of thorns it's about time she lived up to her name. Rose was great to watch coming into her own shes strong, feisty, surrounded by secrets, lies & deceit her past the things she wasn't aware of her father Derek better watch his back. I definitely recommend to get this phenominal dark twisted story I loved "Nikolai & Rose" such a complicated hot spicy romance you can't get enough of the story flowed beautifully. I'm so looking forward to "BLOOM" the next book in this series to see what happens next so need that book ASAP after that cliffhanger. AWESOME READ!!
Nicolai plan keep back firing on him. His frantic need for revenge collide with his passion and obsession to Rose. I love how undeterred he was on his revenge plot. His dark manipulation was scary good, this second book didn't offered romance. While Rose... She's trapped. Stay, Nicolai manipulation start eating her heart and soul. Leave, her father abused definitly will kill her. I love how she's stand strong while also couldn't help falling for Nicolai. And Finnegan, daang he was evil! That man have no good in him what so ever! I love how the author didn't sugar coated his darkness, again and again! The smegsi times? My fav! They are rough, dirty, fire, explicit details in pages! WINNER! lol
What makes this book a four star for me though cause of how fast Rose runs back to Nicolai, willingly after what happened, after what he did, even when she realise his manipulative way. She make it too easy for him not to redeemed him self.

Brooke has made me her fan after the first book and it's going on to the obsessed level. The second book starts off where we left the first book and damn after that cliffhanger I was so blessed to have my hands on this book so fast. Rose and Nicolai have this amazing chemistry which is off the charts, Nicolai is fighting his feelings for rose and while Rose is doing the same. Both are stubborn and on above this there are enemies, let's see who wins in the whole maze of love, passion and war.
The plot is overall going smoothly and it's absolutely best. The cliffhanger tho 😭😭 let's wait for the bloom now which is next book in mafia Rose. Thank you Brooke Harper for this lovely arc
This is a great series. I really am enjoying each book. This one is slightly better than book 1. The spice definitely hits hotter than book 1. The story is progressing well. It ends on a cliffhanger. Can’t wait to find out what happens in book 3. We start off with Rosalind waking up in a weird room. She realizes that her father has taken her. She must comply with what her father wants. She’s holding out hope that Nikolai will come for her. Everything is going according to Nikolai’s plan. Rose is right where he wants her to be. Now he just has to wait for Rose’s father to move to his stronghold. Then Nikolai will make his move. There’s a slight problem with the plan. Derek is going to marry off Rose. Will Nikolai save Rose? Will he let her go to complete his revenge? Read the book to find out what happens to Rose.
Well, I thought Wilt took us on a ride but Thorn said “hold my beer!” Sorry…showing my Midwestern. But in all seriousness this book was all it- heartbreaking, tragic and so so beautiful. Rose, more than any FMC I have read, deserves her happy ending. Niko deserves a big ol’ punch in the face, especially since he’s still holding onto his whole “just using her for leverage” mantra. Start to finish, Rose is steadfast in this book on her complicated feelings for Niko and her desire to be free. Niko resists his pull toward her to the very bitter end but I have hope that book 3 - Bloom- is where he finally admits his feelings for her and maybe they’ll get their HEA. But until then I’ll have quite the book hangover!
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and voluntary review.
Rosalind (Rose) has come a long way from book one and is changing into someone who defends herself and fights for what she wants. Despite how her father and Nikolai have dealt with her and treated her, she is growing stronger and plans to show them strong she can be.
Nikolai and Rose have had a dramatic emotional rollercoaster with this book. It's quite a bit darker than the first and the emotions are significantly more intense. Rose has been a favorite character of mine, because I get to watch her grow and get stronger with each book. I wasn't 100% sold on Nikolai in the beginning, but after this book and THAT CLIFFHANGER, I am now.
Oh my goodness! This story is so dark and amazing. Let me start off by saying there are possible triggers for some. However, they are tastefully written. The second book starts where book 1 left off. Rose goes through so much in this book. You can definitely feel her pain and anguish throughout the entire book. Nikolai is definitely growing on me. He may be darker but boy does he also know how to protect those he cares about. It is jammed packed with drama, action, suspense, and it definitely has some sexy scenes. Brooke Harper definitely writes amazing stories that pull you in and doesn’t let go. They have you on the edge of your seat with anticipation. This one ends in a major cliffhanger. I am super excited to see what happens next.
How many layers does an onion have? You could say the same for Harper's books. There's so much to unpack and grasp in this second installment but you'll find yourself loving every moment. Rose for me becomes so much stronger of a fmc in this book as she unravels both her past and pushes to control the present. She's learning her voice so to speak. I like the complexity of understanding Nikolai and what makes him tick. I like the heat of their relationship and how it's not simple. You have to go into this story knowing it's not the cookie cutter perfect story. It's not the white picket fence house. It's deep. It's tragic at moments. It's gut wrenching and the cliff has you hating harper fot making you wait for the next piece. Go dive off the cliff, you won't regret it.
This was a hot sequel. Wilt left us on a heck of a cliffhanger, and Thorn gave us the "daddy issues" Nikolai hinted she would have. The beginning introduces us not only to Finnegan, but a vile creature known as Vitale. As much as I enjoyed the tension and unknown of Rose's scenes with Nikolai, I abhorred the characters Finnegan and Vitale as we peered into their depraved depths. The only consolation was the surety that Nikolai wouldn't, couldn't, leave Rose in Finnegan and Vitale's clutches. It is too early to whisper the words "love" for their twisted relationship, but ownership...yes. This couple is built on the idea of "mine", and Thorn's own ending, leaves no doubt that as much as Nikolai needs her, she desperately needs him.
Thorn book 2 in The Mafia Rose series and Rose (Thorn FMC) is still getting used as a pawn in the sadistic game Nikolai and father are playing against each other.
This book is definitely a lot darker than the first I thought and some of the content might upset some folks. Rose goes through a lot in this book and even with all that she went through she showed a hell of a lot of strength of character especially towards her father. For me it's the dynamic between Rose & Nikolai that made this book. Plenty of steamy scenarios and cracking plot twists.
With that ending I'm dying to get my hands on the next book now
Oh god why!! I absolutely hate myself right now. Why do I keep doing this to myself? I just finished reading another mafia romance which ended on a cliffhanger, so I had to not-so-brilliant idea to read Thorn so I could have a happy ending, but I didn't realise this wasn't a duet - it's a SERIES.
And such a bloody good one too.
Nikolai is still developing at a snail's pace, and I just mentally screamed at him throughout the course of the book to do something, literally anything good, but nope, he refused to listen. On one hand, I absolutely love the author for how gut-wrenching of a story she's written, but at the same time, I'm crying and dying to read more.
This is part 2 of the Mafia Rose series. A delightful story about Nikolai and Rose. From beginning to end you are stuck with their story and I had trouble putting my book down and therefore read their entire story in one sitting. I must mention that you should read what the author has stated in her preface because their story contains triggers, if you can't stand one of those triggers then this story is not for you, otherwise I'll read their story is very worthwhile and I can't wait for the next part of this series.
I received an Advance Reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review
Rose and Nikolai are back. Prepare for a *very* intense- read: dark and twisty ride, in this chapter of their story. I love how this tale is sort of like a supremely twisted version of Beauty and the Beast. Our couple are definitely enduring their fair share of "thorns" along the road in this journey thus far. We see how certain events begin to affect certain characters, and learn more backstory. Our Rose is no wilting flower, so don't count her out just yet 😉. She has truly blossomed since we first met her. Bit by bit, as the truths of her past were revealed her thorns have sharpened. Daddy dearest best watch out. I'm really looking forward to seeing what's next for these two. Bring it on!
Thorn by Brooke Harper is the second book in the Mafia Rose Series. This picks up right where book one left off. Rosalind wakes up in a strange, pink place wearing strange clothes that are not hers. Niko on the other hand, is having a hard time needing/wanting to go get her now. But, when time has run out, he goes in guns blazing. Lots of TW. Rose is a tough FMC who takes a beating, literally. Niko does show some growth in this book. He seems to be understanding that Rose is his. There is a cliff hanger at the end. Looking forward to book three!
Book 2 in Harper's Mafia Rose series and should be read in series order. This book is darker yet and full of sizzling hot steamy scenes! Great dual point of view and captivating characters and storyline does not even begin to cover the intensity of this read. A rollercoaster of a ride you won't want to get off and yet we are left waiting and wanting for the next book in this series. I can't wait to see what will be next for Rose and Nikolai.
This book was given to me for free at my request and I voluntarily provided this review.
My favorite part about this book was watching Rose start to really grow some backbone and become someone that could survive at Nikolai's side. However, my very close second favorite part of this book is watching Niko sort through his feelings in a level of deniable that is almost laughable. The people surrounding him know what's going on but he absolutely refuses to open his eyes to it. The book kind of proceeds in an expected fashion until the very end (which will rip your soul from your body).
