An all-action storyline alternating between Pace and Gabe's POVs, leads to dangerous revelations and situations, expertly brought to a dynamic conclusion by D.K Greene in Break Pace. It's a crime-thriller you should give pride of place to on your bookshelf, and remember - beware of scammers but please, don't have nightmares!
Starting out this story caught my attention immediately and kept all the way through the entire book. Pace is an intelligent, but sneaky character especially the way she avoids her landladies match making skills. There's plenty of twists in the plot to keep you guessing who's the bad guy and what's their end gaining. Full of intriguing moments and situations that are pulse pounding.
The saga of Pace in trouble, Pace out of trouble, Pace finding her way. So many twists they're hard to count but Ms. Greene keeps us on the right tract. A surprise ending you won't see coming. An entertaining, enjoyable story. Highly Recommended.
I received this book from the author and this is my honest review.
Action starts right away instantly capturing you! This book sucked me in and refused to let me go! I am so stuck on this mystery that I need to know more!!
Okay so the twists I kinda saw coming because it just made sense. But the ending!!! Oh my god I was frustrated it ended but in a good way!! I absolutely need more!
I loved Break Pace. I could hardly put the book down. Even when I had figured some of it out, I couldn’t stay still while I read the last chapters. I kept jumping up, pacing the living room then deciding I had to plunk back in the chair read some more. lol! I admit I was being funny. I haven’t gotten that excited about a book in a long time! It was a fun, fantastic read. I highly recommend it!
I was fortunate to receive this book as an ARC. All of my review is freely given and heartfelt.
Break Pace is an intense, edge-of-your-seat thriller that kept me on my toes from start to finish. I couldn't put it down! The suspense is palpable, and the plot twists had me guessing at every turn.
The characters really shine in this novel. Pace Morrow is brilliant—a private investigator with a sharp mind and a complicated family history that leaves a lot of questions to be answered. I absolutely love her relationship with Bill, her adoptive dad. The way both of them are still reeling from the actions of her biological mom adds a deep emotional layer to the story. Their dynamic is so genuine and heartfelt; it truly anchors the narrative.
I also love that the mystery revolves around dating apps and scams, delving into the dangers of people hiding behind screens on the internet. It's a timely and relevant topic—you never know who could be on the other side of that profile. Greene captures this uncertainty perfectly, making the stakes feel incredibly real.
This is going to be a great series! I'm already hooked on these characters and can't wait to see where their journeys take them next. If you're looking for a thrilling read with complex characters and a plot that keeps you guessing, Break Pace is a must-read.
D. K. Greene has created another spine tingling addition to her Pace Morrow series with Break Pace. This one is an absolute page turner, one that keeps you up at night so you can find out what Pace will be up to next.
Greene has included a very real situation when Pace finds that her adopted father, Bill, has become involved in an online dating scam. One that will nearly crumble their close relationship. One that will leave Bill broke and on the verge of losing his home. One they will soon discover involves Pace’s estranged twin sister and biological mother.
Pace also reconnects with her former boyfriend as they intersect investigating a murder case which they eventually find is connected to the dating scam.
The characters in this story are all well fleshed out and fit their roles exceedingly well. The story is fast paced, full of action, and covers a very real danger in today’s dating world.
Break Pace is an excellent continuation of the Pace series and well worth reading. D. K. Greene has an exceptional talent for writing that captures her audience completely and won’t let go.
This book grabs you from the very beginning and never lets you go until the very end. Pace Morrow is a private investigator with a very complicated family dynamic. There is a con going on through a dating APP and it seems to have caught her adoptive father in its claws among others and they stand to lose everything. Of course, Pace is on the case. At the same time there is a murder and her ex boyfriend, Deputy Marshal Gabe Delving is working. Could the two cases be connected? How is the victim of the murder tied to Pace's family? With so many twists and turns and roller coaster rides you are taken to a really surprising ending! This book is told in the point of view style between with Pace and Gabe giving their points of view. I couldn't put it down and had to keep turning pages! I highly recommend this book! I received and ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
Gripping and suspenseful! A very well-written book with wonderfully-interesting characters. The tension builds at just the right pace as the story unfolds. Will keep you swiping the pages furiously. Worthy of your TBR list.
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book from in order to read and provide a voluntary and honest review, should I choose to do so.
I found this book from a reddit thread where the author suggested various kindle unlimited recs and mentioned her book was on there too so i clearly had to read it. Pace Morrow is a great character to follow, a badass constantly freaking out which makes her interesting cause you never know how far she will take things. Gabe is a great secondary character but sometimes he would take over the book and it felt like he was becoming the main character. Excited to read the next story in the series!
Loved this book. Had a great pace to it (ha. Ha. Ha.) was very hard to put down. Even though it was a quick read, I feel like the character development was great, and the author did a good job of keeping things moving, keeping things interesting, all while giving us a chance to really understand each character.
What a great book! We meet Pace's sister too! Imagine having two stubborn, trouble making, five year olds to watch over. At times both Pace and Patience are more trouble than even them!! A good mystery with a surprising twist. I highly recommend this book, as I do all Ms. Greene's books!
Pace is working on a new case. This time a romance scheme. She has to work with her ex, Deputy Marshal Gabe Delving. The story is told from both of their point of views. Plenty of plot twists and surprises. You won’t want to put this book down until you finish it.
Bill, Pace's adoptive dad, finds himself in a whole heap of trouble and once again the victim of a con. For an ex-lawman, he is very naive and a tad too trusting. Pace, on the other hand, has difficulty trusting anyone. Can she work through her issues and find the true culprit, or will Bill go to prison for a crime he did not commit?
