Wrapped in Winter contains adult themes including grief, and loss.
January Nilsson
I’ve lived a life and half, I’ll tell you that. And I’ve felt enough loss for many lifetimes. After losing the two most important men in my life, my heart is closed off for good. I’ve finally come back home and only just got my family back. My brother and I have made amends, and we are working together to save the family business. I need to stay focused. But when I meet the new delivery guy my three-year-old daughter has taken a liking to, I start to think twice about everything. He’s got a similar story to me but I don’t want to relive my trauma and his. Can I let him in?
Drake Ford
A chance encounter with a gorgeous woman has me reeling. And when I find out a bit more about her, I realize it can be so much more than just one night. Our lives run parallel and I’d love to bring them together. But she’s closed off and tries to keep me at a distance. Our attraction can’t be stopped, though and everyone around us is cheering us on. Can I get her to give me a chance?
Wrapped in Winter is a cute, fun, quick contemporary romance that includes some of my favorite tropes: ❄️Single parent 👧🏼Small-town romance ❄️He falls first 👧🏼Golden retriever MMC
It follows January Nilsson who has lost the 2 most important men in her life which causes her to close her heart off to love. However, the second loss causes her to return home to work at the family business. January is also a single mom who has a 3-year old daughter who has taken to their new delivery guy. January gets to meet him and starts thinking that closing herself off might not be such a good idea.
We has have our MMC, Drake Ford. He moved to Montana to get away from his family in Florida. He encounters January one evening in a bar and they have a raunchy bar bathroom rendezvous. He thinks that he will never see her again, but lo and behold she is one of the owners of the business he delivers to. He falls for her, but can he get her to open herself up to let him into her heart.
This dual POV book was enjoyable to read and I thoroughly loved Drake. He was caring, open, persistent, and reliable. He was such a woman’s man, but also had a mouth on him and I love an MMC with a dirty mouth. It was nice to see an MMC who isn’t obsessive, possessive, and crazy. The wholesomeness of Drake was refreshing and lovely. I loved the journey that January made throughout the course of the story also. She was able to slowly see Drake for what he was and able to open her heart up to Drake and his love.
Overall, I would recommend this book. The family dynamic and character arcs were enjoyable. I do wish that it would have been a little longer with more about January and Drake and their relationship. I look forward to reading about the rest of January’s family and their developing relationships.
“You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can change the ending.”
❄️ Single mom 🌞 He falls first “I bet you meet a woman so reserved and closed off, she’ll refuse your charms and you'll be left wondering how to win her over with your romantic idealism that doesn't work.” ❄️Small town romance ‘His peaceful nature and helpful attitude is perfect for this small town.’ 🌞Found family ❄️steamy contemporary
Drake Ford (age 26) is the new delivery guy for Snowed-In Deliveries. He needed to get away from his controlling parents and now finds himself in Montana with his best friend, Cole. January Nilsson (age 30) is the oldest sister. Her family owns Dress Me Up Boutique, and she is trying to keep it afloat with her brother Lief. The Nilsson family is broken after the father died suddenly with cancer and everything changed. Which led January to make some bad decisions and resulted in her little girl Lily (age 3).
January wasn’t looking for love and Drake wanted a new start but the moment they met it was passion! Drake is such a beautiful character as he supports January and steals little Lily’s heart. It made me both tear up and smile. ‘Because love is never about logic or reason.’
This book had me on an emotional rollercoaster. I was hooked from the very beginning and couldn’t put it down.
January, oh poor sweet and broken girl. I related to her so much. I lost my father also, but I was much older, but the pain and grief, it just consumes you sometimes. She had so much love to give, but she needed to grieve first and allow her heart to become open.
Drake is just PERFECTION! He was so patient and kind, but knew when to also push a bit and not let her run. He knew what he wanted and he was not afraid to go after it and fight for it.
The book was beautifully written. It had me in tears and smiling at the end.
3.5 rounded up Wrapped in Winter had me in my feels throughout the whole book because I found that I was partly reading about myself when reading about January and her feelings. I didn’t deal with loss in the sense of death, but at a young age, my parents got divorced, and growing up and dating, I felt that everyone always left.
That is until I met my husband. He changed my mind just like Drake is trying to change January’s. January is closed off. Or so she wants to believe that she is. One night, she has the crazy urge to follow a stranger into a bathroom at the bar and has the one-night stand of her dreams. (Literally, she dreams about it for weeks after).
Turns out, Drake can’t stop thinking about it either, and he’s not just passing through the town.
This is a cute story about opening yourself up to the possibility of love after loss, and that it is okay to not be okay and it is okay to ask for help. I think sometimes we all need to be reminded of that from time to time.
My only qualm is that the epilogue focuses on a different character and doesn’t delve deeper into the future for January, but it does end nicely, and no questions were left unanswered.
“Drake: Can you get a sitter for Friday? If not, we'll take Lily with us. Me: You would do that? Drake: Of course. I told you I'm looking for a gorgeous blonde. Now I found two.”
Loved, loved this emotional, reverse age gap, small town romance. January has lost two men in her life. She took off after her dad passed, married and had a daughter, but when her husband passed away she returns home to help at the family store. She’s guarded and focused on raising her daughter and the success of the store. When she goes out and lets her guard down to have a fun night she runs into Drake. She stakes a claim and these two connect in the bathroom, she walks away and he can’t get enough and wants more. She leaves the one night behind giving him no information to find her. Fate would have other plans and Drake is the local delivery driver and when he encounters January on a delivery their worlds collide. Such an emotional story with a whole lot of spice. Loved it!!!
"If you want to see me wrapped in your sheets, all you need to do is ask. Really, babe, these innuendos are getting old."
This story was immediately engaging and had the perfect flow from start to finish while giving you a little bit of each feeling & emotion you would want from a beautifully written romance novel.
You could tell the characters were so genuine and caring. The MMC’s thoughtfulness had me swooning and he completely stole my heart. The FMC had been through so much, but being a strong independent business woman and mom to a sweet little girly, had me really loving her character. And the tension. The flirting. The swooning. Yes! Yes! It was endearing.
Don’t get me wrong- this book has all the small town, hallmark after dark vibes, but it’s got that spicy spice that will have you melting into putty!
The first part just goes ahead and lays it all out there with a ONS that I’m still getting hot over (mind you I read this well over a month ago as an alpha reader). I mean- it was spur of the moment, hot, shocking (in all the good ways) and just so yummy!! Especially with it being out of character for both the MMC & FMC…. That meet cute was more of a “meet hot and heavy” &&&& I’m just still obsessed with how it all went down. Wayyy to go Carolina!
This was the first full book in the new Montana series Carolina Jax is writing and she did such an amazing job mixing together the perfect characters and storyline for this novel!
Recommended 5/5⭐️
Thank you @C for allowing me to be an alpha reader for you & for letting me share my honest review. Chef’s kiss babe! 💋
I was hooked from the first page with this story. It’s a single mum, one night stand, he falls first, small town romance that brings steam, sweet moments and lots of found family.
January and Drake deal with grief and loss in very different ways, and it’s a subject that is difficult to broach but done so well in this story. I loved how Drake was all in from the beginning, and how he had the cutest relationship with her daughter even before her.
Due for release 17 Jan, you gotta add it to your TBR now. Thank you @carolinajax_author for the e-ARC of this story - I think it might be my favourite story from you.
I have been waiting for this new family series (The Nilsson's), as I loved the Casanova's, and I can happily say, that the Nilsson's from Wintervale, Montana are just what I needed. This is Carolina's first book in this new series (and there is a Novella called The Night He Saved Christmas which introduces the family and sets the scene) and you are not ready (bring tissues). I have loved everything Carolina has written and this is everything I enjoy from a delicious small town romance.
January Nilsson is the oldest sister, and along with her daughter Lily, is helping with the family business, Dress Me Up, following her father's death many years before. Following his passing, the grief of each member of the Nilsson Family is palpable off of those pages, and grief is expressed in many ways, and January's was to escape. When she does return, things are different, and January is shouldering guilt, a need to do everything, have the business succeed, oh and be Mum and Dad to Lily. She does not have time for anything, and is definitely not going to fall in love again.
Drake Ford may just be the one to change all that. He is the sunshine to her grumpy, and after one night, quick, passionate moment where no names were exchanged, neither he nor January can forget that steamy encounter. Drake has escaped his own life, or the life his family wanted, and has his own grief, so he sees those struggles he has had in the eyes of January, and it even feels as though there has been a force greater than themselves that ensured they would meet, knowing they both needed each other. Drake might be slightly younger, but how he steps up to not just woo January, but for Lily......I thought my heart would actually burst.
I could not get enough of these three (Lily is a huge part of this story and I loved it) and Drake is everything ANY woman deserves and more and this is without a doubt that 5/5 star read you need. Thank you Carolina for this news family and I cannot wait for book two. Beautiful, take me to Wintervale. And the title "wrapped in winter", when that part is mentioned in the book I literally cried it was so beautiful.
I am happy to report I will now be moving to Wintervale, Montana. This book started off with a bang, pun intended, and kept my attention all the way through. It was a swift and fun read that I highly recommend adding to your to be read pile, because I know you have one.
I have expressed my preference before of wanting to read single POV rather than duel, but Carolina Jax crafted the main characters so relatable and easy to get attached to, I enjoyed being in both of their heads. The couple's chemistry was undeniable and the banter was so cute, Drake literally had me squealing and kicking my feet whenever he talked. He has such a dirty mouth but the biggest, sweetest heart. January had no chance at not falling for this man. I was a little weary at how fast she was to leave her daughter with him, but it fit for the pace of the story. Single mothers often get judged for the decisions they have to make, especially when they are in a pinch. I appreciate how decent of a man Drake was and the reassurance from everyone around them vouching for him. I also was glad to see how January's judgment of character had developed after the last man she was with. January was so guarded but Drake's patience and persistence was top notch.
I enjoyed the family dynamic between January and her siblings and I am really looking forward to reading their stories as well, especially Meadow's! I wish I could have gotten a few more pages of January and Drake and of course, Pretty Lily. I would definitely check the trigger warnings for this book as it did have emotional impact while reading. It is a heart tugging story with just the right amount of spice, not overwhelming the plot. I will definitely be checking out more of Carolina's works.
What to Expect: - Small Town Romance - Second Chance at Love - Single Mom - He Falls First - Age Gap (she's older) - Found Family - Healing from Grief
January and Drake are in the small town of Wintervale, Montana, for different reasons. After two tragic losses, January returned to her hometown to help maintain the family business and start anew. Drake has left behind a busy corporate life for something simpler. Their romance starts with a memorable night, but when January suddenly leaves, Drake is left wanting more. When he finds her again in Wintervale, he’s determined to stay in her life. Even though January is hesitant at first, Drake's persistence eventually wins her over. January and Drake are incredibly sweet together, and it was easy for me to root for their happiness. Lily, January’s daughter, adds sweetness to the story, and I adored Drake's relationship with her. They have both been through a lot, so witnessing their journey to love was heartwarming. Drake certainly has a mouth on him, and there is no shortage of steam. I enjoyed this story and can't wait for the rest of this series.
Thanks to Carolina Jax for the gifted advanced reader copy. Opinions expressed are my own.

I was going to give this book a 4 but after finishing this book. I devoured it. Drake and January's characters were a perfect match made in Winter and little Lily's character made the whole story complete.
Drake moved from Florida with his friend Cole. Plus they wanted a life they could live on their own without Drake's father's direction. They got in their vehicle and to Wintervale
January has three sisters, one brother, and a three-year-old daughter she has to help take care of while running the family business after her father passed away.
This whole story was so complete, full of all different kinds of emotions that it will put you through. I fell in love with all the characters. The spice, banter, and then there is Drake. That man!! Hot as f55k. 🥵🥵🔥🔥.
I could go on and on about this book. One thing I do wanna say is.... I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK. To all you spicy, emotional roller-coaster girlies
This book is for us!!

Okay I’ll say it, this was my favourite Carolina Jax book! This may be my new favourite series of hers as well.
All of the characters in this world are well written. I am so happy that all of the Nilsson family get a story.
Drake was so sweet and then his dirty mouth. Cherry on top of the cake, chefs kiss. He knew want he wanted and he went for it. I love that he helps January to start to work through her trauma a bit and just a rock.
January, I just wanted to hug her and be like girl, let him help you. She’s so strong but ugh I get it. I do love her sass though, she gives it right back to Drake.
Favourite quotes-
“I shake my head. “There's no winning with you, is there?” “Oh, Momma, you’ll always win with me.” My breath catches. Hearing him call me that, it makes our relationship feel very intimate. Loaded with promises I want him to keep.”
“Nothing is broken, January. But I think rebuilding a life with someone, learning how good it can be, how it should be, would be pretty amazing.”
I absolutely ADORE Drake!! He is a dream man! He is loving, supportive, patient and the best man of I had to pick a step-father to my child lol!!! No but seriously, this book is so freaking cute. There is character development specially for our lovely Miss January, there is tension and love and spice. This book is about a romance so sweet it can help you heal. I loved how this story reaffirms that healing and grief can be handled differently by everyone and that there is no right way to do it but to if you find someone to help you through your journey, thats truly special!! I really enjoyed this book, i devoured it between work breaks (yes i worked on xmas 🥲) and let me say i need MORE!
Thank you Torch Lit Ink for giving me another book i loved and thank you Carolina Jax for an amazing story, for being so sweet with the bombardment of messages i sent fangirling and for getting me hooked with this precious town and family!
🆁🅴🆅🅸🅴🆆 Wow! Wrapped In Winter, is a cozy, emotional & beautiful story! This was so well written & so thought out! I loved her characters & each of them were so thought out! I fell in love with this story! Such a beautiful winter read!
This story is a roller coaster ride of emotions, grief, loss & love! After all that January’s been thru, Drake is the perfect match for her. They both have been thru their own grief.. but they are better together. January’s daughter Lily made this story even better! That little girl loves big! I love the banter between January & her sisters! You’ll have a lot of laughs thru this story! & Drake is the perfect book boyfriend 😍 I highly recommend this book! Get your hot coffee, ice coffee, tea or whatever you drink.. grab a warm blanket & crack open this book & read it! A must read this winter!
But definitely read TW before reading!

So Drake Ford is a delivery guy and he’s been dreaming about a girl by the name of Lily , he encountered a while ago. He told his brother all about her. He thinks himself silly. Though he can’t seem to get her out of his head. She’s in there on a constant thread . A reel if you will. He knows she’s real but how can he find her? It sure would give him a thrill kinda “I know who she is.” “Who?” “The girl. I found her.” “You did? Who is she?” “Just like that old man said. I’ve been delivering to her store. Her name is January, and her family owns Dress Me Up boutique in town. “So what did she say?” Well actually she didn’t utter a word ,did she Drake? Because she ran away. Oh boy now he’s going to think she doesn’t want to know him. But here she is in all her splendour….”I don’t know, you followed me into that bathroom.” “Temporary lapse of judgment.” “Or just really good taste,” . Wow , will you two get a room already , all this before you’re even going steady! They go on a date so it’s not too late” “I see you for you, January. You can't hide from me. Need knows need” Has her there ,they’ve both known such sorrow ,not dreaming about tomorrow. “Being the new guy, you should be concerned with who you spend your time with. This town will eat you alive in its gossip train.” “Then maybe we should give it something to talk about.” Hot damn man you’re insatiable and I think her defences you’ve just melted ….well you melted something of her’s she’s all hot ,but is she bothered? She animatedly chats about the town of Wintervale and its characters ,as they were breaking the ice and it was nice to sit alongside her as she has nothing to hide. “Mmhm. Stamina of a virgin. “ “Any time you’re ready for me to prove otherwise, I’m down.” “I bet you are.” “So is this our first date, or was the bar our first date?” “First dates and one night stands are two very different things.””First dates and first nights are two very different things. You’ll see.” Oh my this is exquisite, ecstasy! “I’ve been told I have that effect on women.I'm teasing you and you know it.But it was one of the hottest nights I've ever had. You need to know that.” Oh my beating heart be still . Carolina Jax ,you know how to thrill , this and more is what’s in store in this great book. Bravo! It’s a marvellous story. Both feel like they can be themselves with each other. They’re in the moment ,not the who this happened to ,or she’s the one who lost a parent and a sister. No she’s right here with a gentle caring mister. One who’s not afraid to feel . Is this the life that’s real? This ideal state she’s in where she wears a grin and not a frown . Nothing is getting her down tonight the stars are aglow the moonlight too casting its soft shadow over them .They’re two lost souls that have found each other, there’s bound to be lots more to discover ,love ,laughter ecstasy ,just wait and see how happy they can be , their family of three. “Know what else I’m not sorry for?” “What? “ “I’m not sorry if my words scare you. I think you need to know there is still love out there, hot, made for each other love, that can conquer anything we’ve been through. Love that is stronger than anything we’ve lost.” See what I mean? Ms Jax has took her craft to new height in this delight of a romance ,full of such angst but a love so real ,as you can tell in the quotes I reveal..Very well constructed story well written full of glory ,tells how it is to be in glorious ,vibrant , no holds barred love as well as heat when a boy and a girl meet. That is so sweet!
Fast-paced and full of heart, this book swept me off my feet! January Nilsson is a relatable mix of strength and vulnerability, and watching her cautiously reopen her heart was a beautiful journey. Drake? Swoon-worthy doesn’t even begin to cover it. His determination to break through January’s walls had me rooting for him from page one. And let’s not forget the true MVP: January’s three-year-old daughter, whose adorableness could melt the iciest of hearts!
The chemistry between January and Drake was electric, and their shared stories of love and loss gave the romance so much depth. The pacing was brisk, but instead of feeling rushed, it added to the ‘can’t-put-this-down’ vibe. Every moment felt intentional, every interaction charged with emotion. If you love stories about second chances, healing, and love that’s impossible to ignore, this one will have you cheering, laughing, and maybe even shedding a tear or two!
Wrapped in Winter is a beautiful story about grief, loss, and love. I loved it. I couldn't put it down!!
What you get..... ♡Single Mom ♡He Falls First ♡Small Town Romance ♡Grumpy Sunshine ♡Great Banter ♡Spicy Public Bathroom $*× ♡Spicy Scenes ♡Found Family ♡Steamy Romance ♡Grief and Loss ♡Healing from Grief ♡Second Chance at Love
Drake is the new delivery guy in town. January runs Dress Me Up a local shop with her family. He delivers to them often. Drake loves to bring cookies to January's daughter, Lily.
They had a quick, fun steamy encounter weeks before but didn't share names. They have sizzling chemistry, but January guards her heart and pushes Drake away.
I loved that Drake never gave up and really pushed to be in January's life. He honestly is the perfect boyfriend!! He was there to help her through processing her grief. I loved their story and can't wait to read all her siblings' stories!!
What a beautiful read about the healing power of love. Two people who have experienced deep loss and grief find each other in a random passionate connection. Believe me, this story took me through so many emotions-laughter, tears, fanning myself, joy, doubts, elation and so many more. The exploration of how loss and grief affected a family was done with care. I deeply rooted for January and Drake’s happily ever after. The “Lily” connection was poignant. And Drake, such wisdom, patience, and acceptance he had for January:
"I'm not sorry if my words scare you. I think you need to know there is still love out there, hot, made for each other love, that can conquer anything we've been through. Love that is stronger than anything we've lost." I truly recommend setting some time aside because you will not want to put this book down until you are done.
I received an advanced copy of this book and this is a voluntary review.
Wrapped in Winter started off with a bang... literally. This book was full of the emotions - happiness, sadness, grief, heartache & love. January is a single mom who moved back home, just trying to find her way again. Drake is such a swoony, cinnamon roll of an MMC that you can't help but love. I love how wonderful he was to January's daughter, Lily. Drake & January were both dealing with their own grief and heartache but then I loved seeing them deal with their problems together. If you're looking for a quick, small town, cozy, he falls first, single mom romance, you should definitely check this one out.
This one releases January 17! Thanks so much to Carolina Jax & Torch Lit Ink for this ARC.
I love a new author to me, and Carolina Jax did not disappoint me at all. Wrapped In Winter was a great story of second chance for love for January Nilsson. January had a bad relationship before but it did end with her having an amazing daughter from it. Drake Ford was trying to get away from his family and took off with his best friend. They drove until they stopped in a town in Montana called Wintervale. With Wintervale being a ski town they didn’t expect to see each other again after meeting in a bar. But fate had other plans for these two. Drake is as open as January is as closed off. Drake has his work cut out for him. This second chance at love story will truly melt your heart. Dive into Wintervale and see what makes this place so special! ❤️
The cinnamon roll MC Drake will make your heart melt and wonder how January held out as long as she did. I’ve not read a MC that has been so all-in from the start in a long time, but it was a nice change of pace. January understandably had her walls up high because of a lot of bad stuff that happened in her past, so it was great to see her growth throughout the book and finally open up and accept Drake into her life. January’s sisters are a hoot and I look forward to reading their own love stories.
I started this book less than 24 hrs ago. I really couldn't put it down. It is the first book I've read by Carolina Jax and I'm so glad i found her, the way she writes is amazing she draws you in to the book like a great author should and I fell in love with January and Drake and everything that happened before they met and the journey they took together. towards the end, I was just in tears from sadness to joy it had me feeling so many emotions. I feel like their story had the happily ever after but wasn't finished, but I know they appear in more books, so I'm excited to read them.
Truly wonderful small town romance! This was one of those unputdownable books! Such a well written story showcasing devastating grief & the lasting effects of loss, astounding resilience, and the power of connection & love. Drake is the type of man that could sweep any woman off her feet, pure perfection & patience - exactly what January & Lily deserved. January may have been a bit closed off however, the daughter she was raising was anything but. Drake took no time warming his way into Pretty Lily’s heart though it took more persistence when it came to her mommy’s heart, he didn’t shy away. Let’s not forget the side characters of this story who all played a part, I’m so excited to read the rest of the series & get more from all of them!
Carolina has such breathtaking way of filling her stories with gut wrenching real life trials, relatable characters, soul consuming love, even lighthearted moments of giggles and we cannot forget that smoldering spice! I must sound like a broken record at this point but I can’t recommend this book enough
January and Drake’s story was absolute perfection. I loved the way their love story unfolded. It felt like I was wrapped in front of a cozy fire with my favorite blanket, an amazing book, and a yummy drink. This sweet and spicy story is a definite MUST read!!! Get your copy immediately!
Wrapped In Winter by Carolina Jax is a good, steamy he falls first, small town romance with a swoony MMC! It’s the perfect length for a cold winter afternoon of reading and has the cutest little Cookie Monster in it, too!
Just finished this one night romance and it had all the feels from start to finish and the text banter was great and funny .. loved it from start to finish.
Wrapped In Winter is a charming and heartwarming story that deals with loss and grief. After years of being away from her small hometown this city girl returns to be with her family. I particularly enjoyed Drake’s spirited optimism and the way he slowly chipped away at January’s guarded heart. Recommend this book to readers who enjoy a sweet cinnamon roll MC romance that is easy to read.
Loved this book right from beginning to end. January is a single mom who has come back home to help her family, not realizing she needs them too. Her daughter Lilly is so cute and precocious. Drake is new in town but feels he has found his place. Especially after meeting January. Love this line in the book - “you can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can change the ending.” Something we all need to remember This book has so many feels and it will guide you thru them all. Sit back, put your feet up, snuggly in and enjoy.
