Just finished this one and I’m SHOOK! 😳

The perspective that D.J. Maughan Author has written this captivating “whodunit” Psychological Thriller in had me feeling like I was right there in the story line for the entire ride! Read it in 2 days, because I had to work…😒 or would have been less because I just had to know!

Do yourself a favor and get immersed in this one today! 🫣…you won’t regret it! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

Audio. Generous 3 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️

A quick, simple read. It’s a psychological thriller that has supernatural elements.

Right off the bat, Rita falls, is comatose and realizes she can leave and go anywhere to observe others. 🤔

I’m not a big fan of the supernatural element and found the suspect very predictable.

Also, the last chapter took an unexpected turn into romance, which felt a bit out of place given the suspenseful tone of the rest of the book.

The narrator was definitely part of the reason I didn’t like this book:
- The experienced female detective sound sultry and like she was making a move on every person she talked to
- Every other female character sound ditzy
- All the men sounded like my 4 year old pretending to be hulk

However, the narrator wasn’t totally to blame:
- The timeline made ZERO sense — 1) the 17 year old son says he doesn’t think his brothers remember how wonderful the mom was before her company took off but the company was only founded three years ago. So he thinks his 14 year old brother doesn’t remember being 11? 2) Has the mom not talked to her dad and sister in 4 years or 8 years? Both are used multiple times.
- The national coverage of a clothing designer from Idaho Falls seems…unrealistic?
- In what world would a kid who’s skipped school for 3+ weeks be able to clean desks instead of doing makeup work in order to graduate?

A different kind of book for Maughan. It is clearly targeted towards an 19-45 female audience. Told from a woman’s perspective and filled with relationship drama_ divorce, cheating, parenting along with girl boss vibes and even narrated by a woman. It's well done and many will enjoy it, it just wasn’t for me.

This was such a fun read! I usually read thriller and suspense, more true crime style books, but my love for them started with great mystery books like this that are easy to read and follow, while still keeping you on the edge of your seat! Can't recommend it enough!

I liked this book and the characters in it, pretty cool premise too! But I listen to it on Audible and the narration is absolutely horrific! Overly dramatic people with fake voices and accents. I guess that means the book was pretty good because I suffered through the terrible narration!
