My name is Demitri Pavlov .

My father was the head of the Bratva for the east coast. He ruled the area with an iron fist, bringing in drugs, women, and murder. I wanted nothing to do with it. When he died, the family fell apart. I had freedom for the first time in my life.

I’ve learned not to trust anyone. Finding someone who shares that philosophy? Who wants no strings and no commitment? And a desire that matches mine? Perfect.

Mia Alexander fit the bill for all of my fantasies. She wanted the same things I did. Her own past creating invisible chains around her heart.

After breaking my own rules and falling for Mia, she’s in danger because of me. I’m being pulled back into the life I fought so hard to leave behind. And they will use Mia against me if they have to. Because I’m never going to be truly free. My name ensures that.

But I’ll be damned if Mia is hurt because of me.

I’ll make sure the world burns before that happens.

My name is Demitri Pavlov. And I will protect what is mine.

Author's This is a secret relationship, protector, with a side of family and past trauma and a dash of Mafia book. Content warnings prior to first chapter.

CM Smith has a way of taking your insides, tossing them like a frisbee back and forth, eventually landing you soft on the green grass; still in one piece.
Demitri is no different, well, maybe a little. Okay no, I’m lying, he’s just as bad as the other men she writes, as always though, in a good way.
The one thing about this book, just a minor change, I might change, is the fact that it doesn’t come with a life sized version of this man to take home with us. How are you going to tease us with this…this…this god of a man, and his patience of a saint, with the woman he loves, then not give us a chance to find these things out for ourselves.
I don’t leave reviews to spoil the book, but I will tell you, place a box of tissues close- you’ll need them.
5–⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We start a new series, a little different from the past two series but still engaging. I like how the past characters make appearances in this new series.

Mia and Demitri give us a small town, mafia lite, romantic suspense, and found family. A protector in Demitri who will do anything to keep Mia safe. There is a friends with benefits situation, that gets pushed along with forced proximity and a mystery to be solved.

A great story, that moves along quickly and hold my attention.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

This book is action packed, intriguing and compelling. Some parts of this book feature some very emotional scenes that serve to show the true depths of character of Demitri and Mia. Both Mia and Demitri are haunted by their pasts and they are struggling to wrest themselves free. They have been in an unusual relationship for four years, both unable to let go of each other, hoping for more, but settling for less because they can’t bear to not have any contact at all. When she learns trouble from his past is resurfacing, Mia doesn’t hesitate to step up and encourage Demitri to lay low or hide out or her place. Given that she has rarely invited him into her home before, Demitri is stunned and humbled. To protect him, Mia is letting down another of her rigid guards. Her past relationship was extremely abusive, and Mia not only has mile high guards up around her heart, she also insists on always being in control. Unable to face losing Demitri is at the heart of the decision to let him further into her life. Readers are given insight into the demons that haunt them both. They are both survivors, stronger than they think, determined to move forward and still capable of reaching out a helping hand to others.

Thankfully, they have friends and allies willing to help assist, support and protect them. Some of them are familiar characters from the Briar Mountain series books, like the men of ANON security and the women who had been victims of a corrupt police department. They give Mia and Demitri’s story more depth and often add some humour. Let’s just say that the ANON guys like to tease and pick on each other. The ladies of Rock Hill are part of support group for victims of sexual and domestic abuse. They are all trying to support each other while struggling to keep their own demons at bay and move forward. There are also people in the shadows who are doing their best to help and protect Mia and Demitri too. As their story unfolds, there are unexpected twists and a few secrets to be revealed. Above all, we see the true connection and depth of love between Demitri and Mia. I look forward to reading the next books in this new series.

This emotional and mesmerizing story has my highest recommendation.

I loved the patience that Demitri had with Mia she has a lot of trauma and he lets her take her time coming around. Mia's strong take no gruff energy was a nice contrast to his golden retriever vibes.
This book is the first in a new series but is connected to the previous series by this author. I would recommend reading the previous series first so you are familiar with the characters who are woven into this story. I think I missed a book or two somewhere because I feel like I was missing some details...things were mentioned in passing like I should have known and I didn't so I assume it's from a previous book. Which is fine but this being the first book in the series if it's important to the new storyline a refresher would have been good.
Overall it was good. I feel like I just didn't 100% connect with the characters, like maybe because of how traumatic their pasts are supposed to be the author kept the details vague, but that also kept me from really getting to know them or understand them so I couldn't connect...I don't need the nitty gritty but I felt like it's was just a lot of "oh she just had a bad experience" or "his dad was a bad man"
But if you like the kind of healing from trauma without all the flashbacks that will work for you! But please still be aware of TW!

I received this as an ARC and this is my honest review.

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of getting lost in a book and not coming back to reality until you’re out of pages. This book held me captive. Honestly, I wish this book didn’t end because I could keep reading it. The plot, the characters, and the action were just so good.

Demitri grew up being the son of the Bratva boss until one day his dad died. When the boss died, everything else crumbled down. Now living his life, Demitri has found Mia who he enjoys spending his time with. Everything is going well until unknown family members pop up and want to bring the Bratva back. With a whole lot of uncertainties arising, there’s one certain thing, Demitri will do whatever it takes to keep Mia safe.

Demitri character was so loving and so understanding. Honestly, everyone needs to take some notes from this man. The protectiveness, the patience, and the passion of this man was everything. Mia honestly broke my heart. Her past made me feel so many emotions. I loved seeing her growth, strength, and fierceness over the pages. Honestly, this couple was one of my favorites.

This is my first book by CM Smith and it will not be my last. I’ve had every intention to read the Briar Mountain series and now I have to go start it! I definitely recommend checking Demitri out!

Demitri is book 1 in the Rock Hill series. It is a small town romance and features Demitri and Mia. Demitri is in hiding after leaving his Russian mob family. He's changed his name and is trying to live a quiet life, but his family has other ideas. Mia is a survivor after an abusive past and is rebuilding her life while running her bar. She has her walls built so high she doesn't or can't let men through, until Demitri. When his past comes back to get him, Mia doesn’t hesitate to help protect him, and together they help each other move forward.

I loved this book, its action-packed with fantastic characters and an intriguing story. I loved how even though both Mia and Demitri are haunted by their pasts they work together to get their HEA. The characters are great, Mia is quite vulnerable but also strong and feisty when she needs to be. I adored Demitri and seeing how patient he is with Mia while still being very Alpha. I loved seeing past characters from the Briar Mountain series. These characters brought some humour to the book with their banter. I'm looking forward to reading the next books in this new series.

Perfect suspense in life and love ❤️

I’ve been waiting for Demitri’s story since he was first introduced to us in Victorious Heart. I knew there was so much more to his story, and I was not disappointed!
Demitri, only son of the head of the Russian Bratva has a troubled complicated past. His name follows him, even though he’s been hiding under an assumed name for years now. His father, although dead, taught him he could never have more.
Mia has had her own complicated, traumatic past. She has come out the other side and is now a strong successful woman. But still, there is something missing.
Neither think that they want a long term attachment, but life doesn’t always give you what you think you want or deserve.
A new threat puts them both in danger, and close proximity. Their attraction cannot be denied. But can they both survive? And will the missing ‘O’ be found?
CM Smith artfully takes you through the twists and turns of their story, while reintroducing us to some old friends. This was a page turner that I could not put down. I cannot wait to see what happens next!

New to me author. This is listed that it could be read as a standalone but I highly recommend reading the other two series first. It seems there is a lot of character cross over that really confused me in the beginning of this one.

Mia had an extremely traumatic backstory. Please read triggers. I absolutely loved how patient and understand Demitri was with her. He didn’t push her or rush her and let her move at her own pace. It may have seemed rushed to some story wise but she has been in therapy for years putting in the work and John/Demitri has been her friend for years as well. She didn’t just hop into bed with him and huzzah trauma was magically gone. I feel like the author did a good job showing the work she did and the work HE did to make himself worthy of her.

There are a ton of characters in this book. Some who have already been met in previous series and some who I feel like will be getting their own books in the future. I definitely want to read the backlist from the beginning so I get a better feel for everything. I think I would have enjoyed this more if I had. Was still a great read. Mia and her friends were awesome together and the banter was fun.

Demitri & Mia’s story was fast paced and entertaining. I truly could not put this down. A small town mafia adjacent romantic suspense with found family, a protective hero who will do anything to keep his girl safe and a heroine who is finding her strength.

Demitri is hiding in plain sight, as he tries to live a quiet life after his Russian mob family was brought down. Others connected to him have other ideas and he needs play the game to ensure that he keeps his town and more importantly Mia safe. Enlisting the help of old friends he will stop at nothing to bring the enemy down.

Mia is a survivor who is building her own life and controlling how she allows men into it. Demitri is the one man that has gotten behind her walls and I loved the way she worked through her trauma to open hear heart and let Demitri in.

A electric connection keeps Demitri & Mia fighting to claim their happily ever after.

I really enjoyed the suspense and was kept guessing what was going to happen. I also loved that we get to see many familiar faces from previous series intertwined in this new series. I can’t wait for the next instalment of the Rock Hill series.

“She’s my endgame, even if that game is never finished.”

CM Smith always knows how to get me in my feels!!! Demitri was unlike anything I have read before, in the best way! The plot was very interesting and the romance was just too good! If you are a fan of CM Smith’s Boulder Canyon series, be prepared for some of the best character mentions/appearances!!

Mia and Demitri are EVERYTHING. I absolutely love the way these characters interacted throughout the book. Mia goes through a lot in her past, regarding relationships. Despite this, she is extremely strong and resilient. Demitri is the epitome of a protective boyfriend who would do anything for his girl! He is the sweetest cinnamon roll around her!

The two of them have the most genuine relationship and their bond is truly unbreakable. I could go on and on about them! I am super excited for this series to continue and can’t wait for the next book!!! That cliffhanger is so good!

I highly suggest checking out this book and all of CM Smith’s books!!!

I loved this book. I received it as an ARC and started reading almost immediately. There are trigger warnings, so read those before you proceed with this story.

I loved the characters.... Demetri and Mia's unique situation and how they came together. She is one feisty lady when she needs to be. Sweet, sassy, and vulnerable... because come on ladies, who isn't?? Demetri is very patient with her, but is definitely an alpha!! The secondary characters are nicely interwoven into the story also. It's one big happy family!!

If you love small town romances with hot alpha men.. throw in some sassy and sexy women who've been through trauma... and those men will go crazy and will do anything to protect them...oh, and you love suspense/mafia type stories with a bit of humor....then this story is for you.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this. I can't wait to see what happens next!! Happy reading everyone!!

Highest praise for C M Smith. I adored this book and couldn't put it down. Edgy, emotional, suspenseful and romantic.

This was about Mia a pub owner and her on again off again boyfriend, Demetri who is hiding from his Mafia family.

Firstly I enjoyed the team spirit. All of the guys from Anon, Mia's girls and Aunt Linda was just fascinating.

Demetri and Mia had the best connection. Both flawed and vulnerable from their past, but both stubborn and showed strength when trouble comes. Seeing Mia going from the meek mild woman to a tigress in bed was wonderful as was the slow build up of the relationship. But once they got going out was steamy but nicely done.

I enjoy this author's writing style immensely. Easy read, fast flowing and such a pleasure, inviting the reader into a fascinatingly different world. One where there is friendships, support and amazing characters.

This was a fantastic read and can't wait for more!!

What a great series starter!

This one had me hooked from the start - I couldn’t wait to jump into their world!

One of the things CM does really well is how she handles trauma. Although the traumatic events happened in the past, we see both MCs learn to move forward. It’s not an easy road, and I could put myself in their shoes and feel their struggles and triumphs.

The chemistry between Demitri and Mia was off the charts. I liked that there was already a relationship established with the MCs, so we really got to see them grow together.

The teaser at the end, though!! I can’t wait to read the next book. CM has quickly become a one-click author for me. I know I’ll enjoy this series as much as the others.

It was great to see some old faces in this book. You don’t need to read the Briar Mountain or Boulder Canyon series to enjoy this book, but honestly? They’re worth the read!

This was my first book by this author, and it was so good. Mia and Dimetri are a combination that will leave your heart aching, throw in their heat and it’s a heady combination. Mia had serious trauma in her life with an ex boyfriend, and Dimetri is the man that loves her so much and he is patient as she takes as much time as she needs, because he knows she’s the one. Of course with Demetri being former mafia and in witness protection, these two are thrown back in, and their timeline gets pushed up a bit.

Safe read, with a couple that will have your heart. Great storyline with a little bit of everything, heartfelt, witty, sexy, action/suspense with a side of wtaf. Great book for me to read first by this author, I was so impressed and got sucked in like quicksand. A sweet and much deserved epilogue and hea.

Thank you to CM Smith for the ARC of Demitri!

I haven’t finished the Boulder Canyon series just yet so I probably met some characters whose story I haven’t read yet!

CM Smith is a newer to me author that I discovered last year after attending BRAE. Since then I’ve fallen in love with her books and get super excited when I hear of a new release!

Mia has been through a lot and has both mental and physical scars to prove it. Demitri’s family is part of the Bratva- specifically his father was the head, but when he dies everything implodes and Demitri is free for the first time.

Both Mia and Demitri aren’t looking for a relationship but these two are perfect for each other.

Of course one can never really leave the Bratva….

Will Demitri be able to protect Mia from the dangers the Bratva brings?

Or will Demitri make the world burn?

Demitri, Book 1 Rock Hill, by CM Smith is a page-turner, must read. This mafia, small-town romance will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. It is full of great writing, well-developed characters, and action-packed drama. Demitri and Mia make a dynamic couple from the start but evolve even more as their story continues to develop. I was engaged throughout the story and loved the depth of characters and the support systems (family, made family, and friends) of Demitri and Mia. This is my first time reading this author’s works and I plan to read more. Just a note, the author does a good job providing content warnings prior to chapter one. Please take care to view them for a heads-up on any potential concerns before reading.

Dimitri…oh I just knew it had to be someone amazing who was able to be Mia’s partner. Mia has been through it and has some long lasting scars, both physically and mentally. Dimitri was 100% the best book boyfriend, so patient and caring always checking in with Mia on what she needs & being so observant of her. I loved this found family this couple has and how we are getting more of those in the Boulder Canyon series. I loved how protective of Mia Dimitri was as well as Mia over Dimitri. Dimitri comes with some baggage and this take a toll of his and Mia’s safety but he refuses to let anything happen to her. Lived this book and cannot wait for more in this series!

Demitri and Mia

This story follows Demitri, who has left his family and Mia, who has a traumatic past and is trying to make a new and better life for herself.
Mia doesn’t let men into her life, but when she meets Demitri she slowly lets her walls down.
And when his past finds him she is there to help him and he would do anything to protect her. They complement each other. And they are really good for each other.
A woman who overcame a terrible past and grew on it. A man who hides from his past. A lot of emotions and an entertaining story.

Excellent level of suspense and intrigue perfectly woven into the storyline
Found Family and unbreakable friendship bonds
A hero who really embraces his touch her and die energy
A heroine whose strength lies in healing from her history and embracing her future
An example of the strongest guy having the softest heart
The twist!!!
The unaliving I wanted to rain down on certain people in the story

Dem & Mia

I'm in for this new series by CM Smith!! Both Demitri and Mia were once secondary characters in previous books by the author, and they come with lots of baggage and trauma. But from the start the reader gets to know them better and see them heal together and fall in love. There are some bad guys and mafia drama and plot twists all across this story to make it even more compelling, and the author brings satisfactory conclusions on every plot line. At the same time, open new ones to make you wonder which stories she'll tell next.

I really enjoyed this smalltown romance with plenty of steam, suspense and mafia elements. Please tell me where I can find my own Demitri! The hero of this book is what book boyfriends are made of---so patient, so understanding, so completely in tune and in love with his heroine. Mia is strong and doesn't take any BS from anyone despite being scarred and having a traumatic past. Demitri helps her overcome her demons and it was wonderful to see her heal and find her missing O lol! Wonderful story and I look forward to seeing where CM Smith takes us next with this new series!

I loved this!! It's Demitri & Mia's story & it was awesome!! They've known each other for a long time & she's very closed off because of a really horribly abusive relationship. She's been through so much trauma. He cut ties to his family long ago, but the past always catches up to you. There's so much going on here. There're secrets, action & spice. It takes them a long time to really be together & I loved catching up with the other characters. I recommend this book & author!

Now before I start the review there are some trigger warnings and content warnings you should be prepared for. Abuse(off page), trauma both family and relationship trauma, others as well would recommend finding the list through the authors site. Now to the review:

The FMC was not another damsel in distress or needed saving she was a confident and independent person regardless of her past. The MMC in hiding was a trope that I hadn’t seen often but I enjoyed a lot in this book. Both leads had the things to deal with and they did, at times felt a bit fast but this is a book not a real life scenario.

The plot and story was great and pretty easy to follow. There were twists and sub plots that were great through this book.

My only thing was and this could have been because it was an arc so I won’t deduct in my review for it, the headings of the chapters didn’t have the POV so you had to figure it out. Luckily in the first paragraph you knew the POV that chapter was in.

I received an ARC and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Man oh man…
Dem is Russian mobster who gets out and finds love. Little does he know that he has people watching him and helping keep him safe. Mia and Demitri are freaking perfect! Helping her through her trauma. Careful, gentle, caring, and safe. Four years is a long time to wait and boy did he wait, but Mia finally realizes everything. Secrets don’t make friends.. but they can reveal family.

Loving this thrilling start to the Rock Hill series by CM Smith! A brand-new story with plenty of familiar faces.

Demitri Pavlov, son of the late Russian Bratva leader, finally has a taste of freedom—or at least the illusion of it. Now living in Rock Hill, he keeps to himself, running a garage as a cover. But four years ago, he met Mia Alexander, a local bar owner and survivor of domestic violence at the hands of a cop. The two struck up a no-strings, no-feelings, no-commitment arrangement. But now, Demitri wants more—he's willing to help Mia work through her past if she'll let him.

There’s just one problem. His half-sister is determined to revive the Bratva and wants Demitri by her side. He’s spent years hiding his identity from everyone, including Mia, but when the Bratva threatens her, he'll do whatever it takes to protect her.

This book is an incredible kickoff to the new series, packed with fresh faces while still bringing in plenty of our favorite characters. As always, CM Smith delivers—I can’t wait to see what happens next!

I read this book at midnight... probably a bad idea, because I couldn't put it down! The suspense was killing me. The development and background of Mia made me connect with her so much, and I have never connected to a book character that badly before. I loved every bit of this book, and I can't wait until I can get my hands on the next book of Rock Hill!

I absolutely loved this book! CM Smith has quickly become one of my favorite one-click authors and I think Demitri is her best book so far. It’s deeply emotional and suspenseful, and it’s filled with heart and hope with the best bits of snark and humor sprinkled throughout.

Mia is still healing from an abusive relationship. Demitri, the son of a former Bratva kingpin, is living under an assumed name, hoping to stay under the radar of any remaining members. They are a perfect match for each other. The patience and care Demitri takes with Mia is incredible, and the way he loves her is so beautiful.

As with all of Ms. Smith’s books, the side characters make this story so special. Some we’ve met in past stories, while others are new and give us hope for more stories! (Hopefully soon!) She writes some of the best found family I’ve read.
