From the very first page, Sins You Can’t Escape hooked me. The prologue is raw, heartbreaking, and unforgettable. Sophia, a young Mexican woman, is forced to run after a cartel attack. In a moment of survival, she takes on a new identity - Amelia - and finds herself smuggled across the border into the U.S.

As Amelia learns to live again, she leans on her best friends (Martin and Gabby) while trying to keep her past hidden. But survival isn’t easy. She faces racism at work, the constant fear of being discovered, and the crushing grief of all she’s lost. Then she meets Joaquin, a wealthy and charismatic Mexican man whose presence feels like a spark of hope. With him, Amelia allows herself to imagine love and a future again.

But safety is temporary, and happiness feels fleeting. When the cartel closes in, Amelia is forced to fight harder than ever for her freedom and her life. Joaquin’s loyalty is tested, and his own past threatens to intertwine with hers in ways that could change everything.

This book is a blend of heartbreak, resilience, and romance with a cliffhanger ending that left me breathless. Arelli Jones doesn’t just tell a story, she puts you in Amelia’s skin, makes you feel her fear, her anger, and her desperate hope.

I read this book in less than 24 hours and it was on my Kink & Ink 2026 TBR. It’s a dark romance where our FMC (Amelia/Sophia) experiences the very traumatic event of her family being murdered and must go on the run and assume a new identity. This book is a very quick read and heavy on character growth/arc! I’m a huge fan of duets because I can get fatigued with fantasy series. This book 1 of the duet sets up book 2 perfectly and I can’t wait to find out some answers to questions. The ending was fantastic! I also really enjoyed the Latino representation and some of the real life challenges Latina women overcome.
