The tone is moody, dark, and mysterious with an old-school horror feel in a mid-20th Century setting. There are no illustrations from Hoffman, who is known for his artistry, but he has good use of language and vivid descriptions, has interesting characters, and there are several memorable scenes that still linger in my mind.
