Eight Embers: Hemlock Academy book 8

Rate this book

I've freed my gargoyle mate, just intime for a nasty witch to show up and ruin our party.
It's all good though, because my demon mate is good with his hands (and his magic).
Everything should be smooth sailing now, but as it turns out there's a goddess from a realm of unicorns that's got other plans for me.
We've got this though...right? Would be helpful if something ominous didn't happen to all the mates I've worked so hard to collect so far.

Books 5–9 of Hemlock Academy, following Delaney’s story, were… an experience. This is definitely not your usual why choose, and honestly, it never pretends to be. There are questionable elements - very questionable - and to be fair, they’re questionable the whole way through. So… yay for consistency? 😅

The best way I can describe this arc is: a touch of Game of Thrones (yes, the incest - let’s just call it what it is), mixed with The Vampire Diaries, and somehow… My Little Pony. I wish I were joking, but I am not. If you don’t take this story seriously and you’re just here for chaos and laughs, this might actually work for you. I spent a lot of time going “okay, that’s questionable” and still kept reading, so clearly it has something going for it.

That said, by the end I was mostly confused and reminded exactly why this part of the series took me so long to finish. I liked the first part of the series way more. Delaney’s story was just plain weird, and some of her guys were a hard no for me. Urgh.

I’ll admit it: I’m a sucker for a large harem, which is probably why I pushed through and finished. I’m glad I did for closure’s sake… but I’m also slightly traumatized, and not in a fun way. Let’s just say certain recurring elements (involving potatoes, goat appendages, twins, and cartoon vibes) were too much by the end.

Overall: glad it’s done, but this arc wasn’t for me - and I’ll be pretending parts of it live in a separate universe.

OMG! THANK FUCK, IT'S FINALLY DONE!

Wtf happened?!

The first four books, were good. Three and four stars. Good story, mostly, and I had fun reading them.
The first of this part of the series, ok, I could follow and it seemed to be a good.start. the second book.was.iffy but still ok.
And then it was.like a totally new person was writing. and they are.SUPER immature!
This book.. I FUCKING HATED IT!
I bought the whole series because,.well, I hate.starting a series, if I am not going to read the whole thing. Just like, I won't start a series unless it is completed.
But, just because I own the last book, doesn't mean I am going to read it!
I may skim it just for closure.
And btw, real shitty for prepping us to lose.salad. I hate the unicorn swing but come on.
Meh.
And wil? A closet.perv? CALLED IT!

Mind. Blown.

Need I say much more? Kelsey, you amazingly gifted author, you! Unicorns, glitter, clouds, mashed potatoes, and more! Poor Delaney. She just wants to secure her mates, go to school, and settle down. Then, along comes a Goddess who needs a champion. I can't wait to see what the next book brings about. I do hope that Saladriel can find some happiness and love. Good luck, Delaney and mates!

Hilarious

Kelsey Soliz writes the type of books where you are crying laughing, questioning not only “what in the world am I reading?” But also “why do I love this so much?”

You will laugh with the absolute insane shenanigans that are in this read. But on top of that, you’ll get a bit sad, you’ll swoon, and you smile at the sweetness.

I really need the next book because my heart is breaking a bit and I need to know what’s going to happen!

I absolutely love this whole series and frequently re-read it when I need a pick me up. This was a wonderful addition. Things tend to get a little weird in these books but I find that I love it. This a steamy why choose with a variety of characters. There are lion shifters, gargoyles, demons, unicorn shifters, a deranged goddess, and of course our body smith/shifter princess. What’s not to love? That ending made me scream though. Now to wait for the next book.

awesome book

Dear lort that was one crazy potato filled ride. Zac sister is in need of a throat punch and be taught a lesson that nobody has succeeded on teaching her because she is one horrible person. I want all the guys back. I’m a little sad about salad.

Good Read

Another brilliant instalment, I’m really enjoying following Delaney’s story. The characters are all brilliant and I love the humour in the book. I would recommend giving it a read.

So crazy adorable!

This is a crazy miss matched group that is so much fun to follow. They are very steamy, funny, and sweet. Great characters! I can't wait to see what happens next. Then I'll just have to start over because I can't get enough of this world.

The first two series were fun if a bit weird. This is now weird but is missing the fun and maybe leaning too hard into weird.

There were a number of times that I found this book hard to follow. The story skipped around and just didn’t make a lot of sense. I love the author, so I don’t like to give less than 5 stars.
