Grumpy Sunshine

Rate this book
The first day that she walked onto the surgical floor that Chevy Clayborne spent most of his time on, he knew that he’d do anything to make her his.

For two years, he played the long game.

He slowly insinuated himself into her life, and the moment that she needed him, he swooped in like the knight in shining armor that he only pretended to be but most assuredly wasn’t.

He’s no real knight.

In fact, he’s the villain in everyone’s story but his own.

He lives life the way he wants to live it, and damn anyone and anything that gets in his way.

He may appear like an upstanding anesthesiologist at work, but the moment he gets out of those scrubs and into his jeans, biker boots, and leather cut with the Truth Tellers emblem at his back, he morphs into his alter ego.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde ain’t got nothin’ on him.

He’s been putting on a front for two years, and just when he has Aella Cowan right where he wants her, he closes down every possible avenue of escape.

He thinks he has a future fight on his hand, but Aella proves that she’s not quite as sheltered as Chevy thinks. She’s perfectly happy being the old lady of one of the scariest members of the Truth Tellers Motorcycle Club and couldn’t care less if he spends his nights doing questionable things to despicable people.

As long as she has breakfast with him every morning, what does she care how he spent his night?

How are we onto a new series?!! man, these months are flying, but bring me the stories!!!

Grumpy Sunshine did not disappoint.
baby, I've been here since Boomtown first released and still am blown away with creativity. The emotion. The relatable characters so perfectly flawed. Everything about this story hit in all the best ways.

Aelle is a nurse tech who honestly has been living a pretty tragic life due to circumstances out of her control. That saying blood is thicker than water isn't always the case and definitely not for my girl here. Aelle is sweet and fiesty with just enough bite. She love hard but doesn't scare easy. Honestly she was easy to love through her resilience. And especially so with the bond her and her sister shared.

Chevy baby. I just knew you would not do me dirty like it was led to believe. Damn though this man is FINE. All grumpy alpha with so much attitude and an even bigger heart. He just hit every yes button.

Lani just knows how to have me ugly crying like my life depends on it, and quite frankly, being 13 weeks postpartum means my emotional state is already on a knife edge. I about near had a damn breakdown. But there is the magic in her writing. Chevy and Aelle took me on a journey. her soft to his hard. I laughed, swooned, cursed, and cried my way through their story only to wish for more at the end. oh and the characters... the side characters as always are the gift that kept giving.

loved it. I can't wait for more.

- Anesthesiologist by day, motorcycle biker by night.
- Touch her and die vibes.
- You are mine.
- Struggling MFC, part time job, full time student plus some side hustle.
- Found family.
- Thriller, action, betrayal and revenge.
- The MFC has a twin sister. I striked that out because the mother got pregnant by one man and then got pregnant again 10 days later by another man. Completely Bogus right?!

That's what I thought until I looked it up and it is actually a real thing!!!! Albeit rare but totally possible.

It's a rare phenomenon called superfetation where it is possible for fetuses to be conceived days or even weeks apart.

As the old spanish saying goes, nunca te acostarás sin saber una cosa más which comes to mean you learn something new everyday.

Given the above the book sounds extraordinary, however, it isn't...

○ There's no smooth transition to their love story.
○ No romantic gestures, actions or declarations.
○ It's rough around the edges focusing more on the action than their romantic relationship.
○ The MFC got on my nerves with her food obsession. If a real human eats the amount of food that she does they'd be one foot in the grave!
○ The writing is a bit factual and not at all poetic.

I don't regret reading the book especially that I finished it in less than 24 hours but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone and I definitely wouldn't be continuing the series.

What about this author that really loves info dumping on her previous characters in a current book? Like, show, don't tell.

Anyway, onto this book's main characters. I actually love them for once. The silent, keep-to-himself anaesthesiologist who as also in a motorcycle gang and the sunshine hospital technician. Oh, the grumpy and sunshine trope. May this trope be forever ripe and fruitful in my mind.

This was another decent story, good but I don't think that memorable other than the shot in the face part. Just another story to binge if you have nothing else to do, I guess.

Chevy & Aella are the perfect couple for this title. 😄 Chevy is definitely rough & grumpy, but his heart is huge. He has a deep love for his family, especially his sister & niece. Aella's had a rough life, but still exudes sunshine. ... except when it comes to her mom. That woman doesn't inspire any kind of light. Oy.

I love the interaction between Chevy & Aella. They're feisty & amusing, even during some dark times. And they're both just a little bit violent. 😄

There's a lot going on with their story, and I highly enjoyed it from start to finish. Except the parts that made me cry! 😭

😍😍😍

Grumpy Sunshine🌞

Loved Grumpy Sunshine🙌 The first book in a new series by LLV and features Chevy, Keely’s brother that works as an anaesthesiologist at the hospital. Also loved getting to know Aella and her sister, Silver, who I hope we see again in the future with another Truth Teller member perhaps?🤷‍♀️

Anyway, Aella and Silver have struggled for years because of their mom and her selfish ways. While Aella works at the hospital, she is also studying full time and secretly crushing on Chevy, whom she reckons is way out of her league. Unbeknownst to her, he’s been watching her for two years and is waiting for a sign, any sign that she’s interested. When she does make her interest known, her world as she knows it begins to change😍

An emotional story with some shocking events which kept me reading in one go. So good and I’m looking forward to the next one❣️ I received an advanced copy and willingly leave my honest review❤️‍🩹

I decided to come back to this author to see if she has been able to capture my attention again. Sadly, it is just the same mention of former characters, hard to believe story lines, and contradictory statements throughout. I love authors who catch you up with former stories, but there is only so much name dropping without context and jumps in the timeline, it is distracting. It's hard enough to keep up with all the characters and the "exotic" names and super large families. It feels like the book is rushed to publish. I used to look forward to her stories and the intertwined timeliness. The stories were well written and tied in just the right way, that is no longer true.

I really wanted to like this book.
It was really bad, I'm DNFing the series.

My first point of contention is that there is no grump, and there is no sunshine character in this book. I was expecting a black cat/ golden retriever combo and got neither it's both of these characters are just meh. No attitudes at all.
The title of the series doesn't apply because there is no content that needs any type of warning. This is not a dark book, there are no dubious situations at all. And there is no smut at all. It's plain vanilla sex, and it's boring. Not even dirty talk. I'm giving it 🌶1/5 chilies on the spicy scale.
The world building is not great and people's histories are not filled out properly, we don't really know the history of the people in the book, even the main characters.
The premise of this book is a woman, working at a hospital, studying to be a nurse meets an anesthesiologist doctor who is also in a motorcycle MC in which killing people for doing bad things and getting away with them is a core tenant of the MC. It sounds like it could be a dark book based on that description but it's not, even the killing is vanilla.

I listened to the audiobook and the narrators were good.

" Can we talk about how cute motorcycle gangs are?"

This was a great start to a new series. There are so many characters that I want to know more about, so I am excited there are plenty of books in this series. I laughed at the couple in this book and the side characters. I cried at the unexpected loss in this story.
I do have a couple of questions from this story... What happened to Cake's wife? Did they ever confront her about the ring and stuff? And why was the creepy doctor brought up a couple of times, but then no storyline significance? Did I miss something?
I will be reading the next book.

Chevy and Aella...

A decent read but I guess maybe I'm getting tired of the formulaic read of LLV. Big bad alpha male coming to the rescue, watching from afar, doing things she doesn't know about until the VERY END when we find out he paid for her schooling because he was attracted but never made a move on her.

Then we have the shitty mother/father. In Aella and Silver's case, it was a mother that was driven to the end to have as much money as possible, was supposedly a drug user, but had millions in the bank offshore and stacked up in her car. On top of this weirdness, she seemed to be stalking Aella's father since she had come in as a 'CLEANER' to their clubhouse???

Did Apollo not check her out before hiring her? He was supposed to be this security/hacker guru but let her get inside their compound?

Nex, supposedly the father's wife (not her mom) paid off Trini to keep her from letting Cakes know he had a daughter. I'm thinking as much as they displayed Trini as out for big money she would eventually have resorted to blackmailing him and then he'd have fought to get custody. Oh and lets not forget that Aella turned her mom in for all the shit she did yet she somehow got out of jail to come after Aella again. WHAT??!!

There's quite a few plot holes and it messes with my sense of flow of the story. Kind of all over the place. I'm sorry but these beta readers need to do a better job on giving feedback since there's quite a few big problems and editorial issues.

AND OF COURSE, one of them gets badly hurt not once but twice. This time it was the woman and she just is lucky that the bullet didn't kill her. I'm not sure why it always has to come to this.

Final issue, TOO MANY OLD characters who take up too much reading space. These books are short as it is then you have all the random asides with Semyonov's and the Carters'. The women of the brothers/sisters/brothers in the club ALWAYS become best friends, never any strife or dislike in the groups. I'm sorry but I haven't met all these agreeable and likeable women in real life. I just don't think all these women would get along so well unless they are just doing it for their spouses. It's ridiculous.

Guess, I'll check out the next one and hope for a new plot that doesn't follow the usual storyboard she must have up on her wall to follow. I know it's easy to do what has sold millions of books but we need fresh ideas and some true originality.

Genre & Tropes : Biker romance x Suspens-ish plot x Hospital romance x Work romance x Spicy

A biker romance that I enjoyed reading !

When I learned that this was the start of a new series for LLV, I was super excited, especially since we'd already had a glimpse of some of the characters, and I love the bikers in LLV =)

These new characters are super raw (which I love) with complicated pasts and more than questionable morality xD The plots were gripping (even though OMG I was SHOCKED by what happened !! I wasn't expecting some of the deaths, ) and I laughed as much as I was heartbroken !

It's not a favorite because I would have liked something more developed (especially the plot surrounding the car accident) and for it to focus more on the book's main characters, but it's still an enjoyable read !

In short, a biker romance that's a quick read !

PS: I'm SO looking forward to the book with Apollo !!

ABSOLUTELY LOVED this book!

Grumpy Sunshine was about Chevy Clayborne a biker for the Truth Tellers MCs and an anesthesiologist at a local hospital. There were two sides to the man: he was grumpy but cared about the staff at the hospital and went out of his way to say thank you and bring birthday lunches/dinner. He was brash in his delivery of news too whether good or bad. Something about the nurse, Aella, intrigued him. But anytime he got close – she’d run.
Aella’s world had been bleak, but she still found a way to shine. Her mother, a con artist, stole her and her twin sister’s credit before she could walk – leaving the fraternal twins to figure out life without the help of it. They scraped by but at least her twin sister, Silver – had a dad. Twins without the same dad – look it up, it can happen. Silver’s dad wanted absolutely nothing to do with Aella. When her mom breaks into Aella’s apartment and steals her rent (not the first time) she follows the air tag she wisely planted to the Truth Teller’s MC’s where she learns her mom’s a cleaner. In addition to beating the crap out of her mom to get the keys to her car, the MCs follow the spitfire to the car where she finds not only her money but a trunk full of other people’s money too. They donate it to charity.
Another issue that Chevy is dealing with is that his brother Copper is in jail for murdering their father who was abusing their little sister. Before he left, he asked them to look out for Rain. Rain is Copper’s childhood friend who seems to have Munchausen (which means she seeks sympathy in making up life threatening illnesses). For example, she’s at the hospital for driving and since she has a fatal cancer, she’s not allowed to. She kills two parents – leaving them survived by a newborn. Copper gets out of jail and tells Chevy he didn’t want him to look out for her, he wanted him to stay away from her but didn’t word it clearly.
Then both Chevy and Aella become close. Later, we find out WHY her mom even got the job for the Truth Teller’s the begin with. Turns out Aella’s dad – Cakes – had a feeling that his evil wife and Aella’s mom ran a con to hide his child from him which he learned about in their divorce. There are a million nuisances, and I know this contains some spoilers (which is more to jog my memory as more of the series comes out). 5-star book! Please read. It’s a semi-slow burn (meaning it’s not an 18-hour book but it’s also not insta-love).

Just when I thought I’d recovered from the emotional rollercoaster that was the Semyonov Bratva series, Lani Lynn Vale strikes again — this time with Grumpy Sunshine, the explosive first instalment in her brand-new Content Advisory series. And if this book is anything to go by, we’re in for another unforgettable ride.

Fans of the Bratva series may remember the mysterious and gruff Chevy Clayborne, who made a brief but impactful appearance when a couple of his siblings found their HEAs. But nothing could have prepared me for the full force of Chevy in his own story. A hot, grumpy anesthesiologist who also happens to be in an MC? Be still my heart. I was already weak at "tattooed doctor," but the moment he pulled on that motorcycle club jacket, I practically swooned into next week.

And then there’s Aelle — oh, Aelle. A nurse technician with a spine of steel and a heart that still stutters around Chevy, even after two years of working side by side. Watching her navigate the minefield of suppressed attraction, family trauma, and growing danger was absolutely captivating. She’s resilient, vulnerable, and so deeply real that you can’t help but root for her. Her bond with her sister adds another layer of emotional depth — tender, fierce, and unforgettable.

Ms Vale is known for weaving raw, gut-wrenching emotion into her stories, and Grumpy Sunshine is no exception. There were scenes toward the end that had me outright sobbing — ugly-cry, can’t-see-the-page kind of sobbing. The duality of Chevy — soft and soothing in the hospital, rough-edged and commanding in the MC — is portrayed with such precision, it’s no wonder Ms. Vale cheekily refers to him as "Mr. Jerkly and Mr. Hyde." The way she balances both sides of him is masterful, making him one of her most compelling heroes to date.

Their chemistry? Off the charts. The tension? Delicious. The secrets and danger lurking in the background? Perfectly paced and deeply satisfying. Add in a toxic family past, some shocking reveals, and the kind of emotional payoff that only Ms Vale can deliver, and you’ve got romance reader gold.

In short, Grumpy Sunshine isn’t just a brilliant start to a new series — it’s a shining example of why Lani Lynn Vale continues to be a queen of the genre. I laughed, I cried, I fell in love. And I’m already counting down the days until the next book in the Content Advisory series.

New Series by Lani Lynn Vale: Content Advisory
⭐️ Book One: Grumpy Sunshine ⭐️
Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5)
This is the start of a brand new series, Content Advisory, and it picks up right after the end of Lani Lynn Vale’s previous series—so if you’ve been keeping up, you’ll recognize some familiar faces. I was definitely nervous going in, mostly because I wasn’t sure who the female lead was going to be. If you’re like me and have read all of her books (some more than once!), you know that every character connection matters—and the end of the last book left us with a bit of suspense.
But I’m happy to say things were cleared up, and we got an amazing lead for our girl.
Let’s talk about Aella—first of all, I love her name, even if I’m not 100% sure how to pronounce it (I’ve been going with "A-Ella" and hoping for the best 😅). She’s such a sweetheart. Honestly, the way she supports him is so genuine and loving—she doesn’t care what he’s been through, as long as they’re together in the end. That kind of loyalty and heart is what makes Lani’s characters so special.
That said, this book does get really emotional. Without giving anything away... if you know, you know. And wow, it hit hard.

⚠️ Trigger Warning: Death of a Child
This isn't a spoiler if you've read her other books, but I do want to give a heads-up. I wasn’t fully prepared going in, and while I’ve read similar themes from her before and know how she handles them with care, this is definitely something readers should be aware of. If that’s a sensitive topic for you, approach with caution.

Despite the heavy emotional content, it’s still a fantastic read. Lani Lynn Vale never misses, and this is no exception. If you’ve read her before, you already know what kind of ride you’re in for—great characters, deep emotion, and storytelling that hooks you from the start.
Highly recommend. Five stars all the way! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I'm fairly new to LLV style of slapstick rom-coms and I love her unbridled humour.
The book had laughs aplenty but ALL The Feels infected me like a virus.
Well doctor McHottie to the rescue.....I need to visit the hospital and faint in his arms I believe 🤪

"Chevy Clayborne, sexiest doctor at Dallas Medical, biker extraordinaire, was my end goal. "

description

Aella Cowan mutters her way into his sight and heart and alas, I'm left hanging.
Their proximity leads to rib-tickling encounters and his saviour side rescues her from penury and her leech of a mother. Truth Tellers MC Club forms a protective ring around her when she's robbed, her life shot and future crushed by her own mother. But in the process, she ends up with a dad.
So all's well that ends well....except she ends up with a bullet to her face!!!
Omg!! It's rapidly paced thriller too, and I was trying to focus on multiple things happening at once.
Jaw dropping climax and a giddying HEA later, I've shut the book with a huge grin on my face.

Chevy Clayborne is an anesthesiologist, who is amazing at his job, but doesn’t really make connections outside of his family and his MC family, the Truth Tellers. He’s definitely living on the grumpy side of life. But, eve though she doesn’t realize it yet, his eyes are on Aella

Aella Cowan is tired and overworked. She has a job at the hospital as a surgery tech, goes to work full time and has some side hustles. She also has family drama. Her twin is amazing, but her mother is anything but and lives to make her daughters' lives miserable. She also has a crush on Chevy, but clams up around him because she doesn’t like being the center of attention.

But all of that changes when Aella tracks her mother down to the Truth Tellers compound and Chevy and Aella both see each other in a whole new light.

This is book one in the Content Advisory Series, but fans will feel right at home as it feels like a continuation from the Semyonov Bratva series with a lot of crossover characters. Chevy and Aella were absolute fire together! Hot from the moment they stepped away from their work personas. I loved watching them find their way around one another as Aella realized Chevy was all in and Chevy realized Aella was not as innocent or naive as he thought.

This book almost broke me, though. You won’t see it coming and youll wish you had tissues handy as it is traumatic. But, it also allows readers a glimpse at the darker side of Chevy as well as him at his most caring . . . even if it is definitely on the morally gray side of life! It really lets readers know this series is on the dark side, as the Truth Tellers have a mission they plan on seeing through whenever they have to.

5 stars for Chevy and Aella as well as to the start of the Content Advisory Series!

Aella got in her car after a tough day at the hospital only to find it didn't start. This is why she parked several blocks from the hospital always making sure she was on a downward slope. It is also why she is thankful she has a manual transmission so she can start rolling and pop the clutch. At least she will make it home. She'll worry about a new battery in the morning.

But she looked up and realized she had an enthralled audience. Her heart sagged when she saw it was the gorgeous Dr. Clayborne, the hospital's sought after anesthesiologist, who was still in his scrubs and was watching her from the seat of his Harley. Of all the people to see her, she was mortified.

Her day only got worse when she arrived at her apartment to find out that her con of a mother once again talked the super into letter her in. Robbing her blind... again.

I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable.

Aella is barely making ends meet and she blamed herself for letting her mother manipulate her out of her chance to get away. She finally was able to leave, but her mother still finds a way to get access and still all her money. Chase Clayborne loves his job as an anesthesiologist, but at the end of the day he can't wait to change his scrubs for his Truth Teller MC cut. His fellow doctors would be shocked by his alter-ego.

This dark romance is action-packed and full of danger from several fronts. Chase's job as a doctor is to save lives, but when that world collides with his brothers of the Truth Tellers MC he will always take their side. This book is smoking hot and twisted with MC justice.

If you like dark MC romance, you will love this book. Highly recommend!

4 cause i am mad and in my feelings

I mean I’m my feelings, but not in a book hangover - this won’t haunt me- I would need a soul for that. But dang it I’m mad.. I feel like characters from past books shouldn’t be messed with. Excuse me, knocks on screen, author stop killing kids. And dogs(no dog dies in this book, but it still bares mentioning) Otherwise sell these as book boxes with tissues and water for hydration dark chocolate for momentary sadness lift maybe a dill .. dough so we can go Effie right off if we don’t like something or like something too much and a candle to class it up a notch. I digress. This couple is great. Love the barely leashed psychopathic genius of a man(aka Chevy) and she’s no slouch Cowen-he calls her whirlwind - the scene where she beats down her mom and searches her car illustrates they are a well matched potential couple and she is in fact a whirlwind. Though technically he mentally claimed her some time ago and has been Robin Hooding some aspects of her life behind the scenes. Halfway feel he dragged his feet not sure why other then past family trauma and that will do it every time if you know you know.
This book practically reads itself. Smooth. The pages fly by, hours pass quickly and boom -over too soon. There is plenty of story left to tell with this series and cast of characters. The Russian mafia family members being some of my favorite side characters , the new set of MC members are very interesting (hot, mysterious, kinda psyyko in the best way…)

"Can we talk about how cute motorcycle gangs are?" "I mean, inseparable friends, matching outfits, and they go on adventures together."
-D*E*A*D lol

I had so much fun hanging out with Chevy & Aella
One minute Aella had me in stitches.
The next?
Those pesky silent tears were tracking down my cheeks
And don't get me started with what a solid character Chevy was.
A brilliant anaesthesiologist, who is also a walking mountain of grump.
And he sports the title like his cut
Proudly

For years, these two have been crushing on each other.
Aella does not believe she is worthy of Chevy's attention
Chevy is unable to get her close enough or to stand still long enough to make his move

That all changes, though, with a bit of a push from the Fates
Well, Aella was pushing, Chevy was watching, and the Fates?
They were all smiles.

Again, I can not rave enough about what a blast this was to read
These two had me laughing, crying, and at times wanting to toss my Kindle
Great secondary characters that latch on and stay with you
Smexy and cute romance between our grumpasourus Chevy and our little pixy Aella
I am so looking forward to the next in this series

This is the first in what will become a must-read series.
A couple of things to be aware of: some of the scenes might be triggers for some, and occasionally, the author painted outside the realms of possibility, but not believability. Didnt take from the story, only added a touch of mystery, intrigue, and laughter
Highly Recommend

Chevy Clayborne's appearance in the previous book might've been brief, but in this book he's larger than life, leaving an indelible mark as a decadently delightful anti-hero. A sexy anesthesiologist by day and an avenging MC angel by night! Oh, my! What a delicious combination of a modern-day Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde! The dichotomy of his personality is beautifully and emotionally depicted by Ms. Vale, making him a compelling character whose actions add even more exhilarating substance to this series-starting thrill-ride.

Aella Cowan has been attracted to Chevy for two years. It's been a time of push and pull and feelings of not being good enough for him. Little does she know that he's been watching and waiting for her, and once they get-together things turn combustible. Aella's an immensely likable heroine, along with her sister Silver, one who's had a rocky and painful past courtesy of a toxic mother and danger creeping ever closer. She's got a tough exterior, but is vulnerable at times too, and it had me rooting for her every step of the way.

Like her previous series, Ms. Vale has woven together an exhilarating tapestry of suspense and steam. Readers are put through the emotional wringer on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. There's unexpected twists and turns along with actions that put a smile on your face while bringing a tear to your eye. All in all, Ms. Vale has once again given readers exactly what they want in a perfectly paced, immensely satisfying, series starter that has me greatly anticipating the next story in this series!

5 Having Their Dreams Come True Stars!!

I literally read this book in one sitting. It’s the perfect start to this new series and there are twists, turns and secrets all over the place. Chevy and Aella work in the same hospital and have longed for each other from afar for a couple of years. The problem is, Chevy and Aella work at the same place but while they run into each other, it’s not on a daily basis. That all changes one day and this deliciously slow burn book had me captivated from beginning to end.

Aella and her sister have quite the family drama and to say my eyes were opened wide when little tidbits come out would be putting it mildly. We’ve met Chevy and his family in the Semyonov Bratva series and I’ve been curious about all of them since then. Chevy has two sides to him and talk about a dichotomy!

While it’s a slow burn between Chevy and Aella, this book moves at a rapid pace. Lots of moving parts and people to get to know and love. There are people that are villainous and those that are filled with love. I loved how these two came together and no matter what happens, he’s never letting her go. This book shows family love in so many ways. There were also times that I was cackling with glee when some people got what was coming to them. There were also a few tears shed which I wasn’t expecting.

Needless to say, this is the perfect start to a new series that I’m confident I’ll be consumed by with every book LLV gives us!

Andddd….we’re off to an explosive start to a new series! As with any new LLV books that hits my kindle, I read this in just a matter of hours. Totally unable to put it down!

I was still in a book hangover from the Semyonov series, so I couldn’t wait to start this new series that is tied into it. Dr. Chevy Clayborne is an anesthesiologist, member of the Truth Tellers MC, and the embodiment of the definition of grumpy. Aella is a surgery tech that has been put through more in her short life than anyone deserves. She is beautiful, smart, and unbeknownst to her, very much on the gorgeous doctor’s radar.

This book is more of a slow burn between Chevy and Aella, but the story itself is fast paced and full of twists and turns that you don’t see coming. Chevy proves that he will love and protect her no matter the costs. Aella proves that she will love him no matter what he does in life as long as he loves her unconditionally. I don’t want to say too much and reveal what happens. This is one story you’ll need to read for yourself.

This story has all the classic LLV traits to it. It’s full of laughter, love, and family, with a side of suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Quipped with her comical chapter headings and her quirky sense of humor, this new series is off to a FANTABULOUS start! All these new characters that I can’t wait to dive into and learn more about.

Holy hell, Chevy Clayborne. This man is the full package—gruff, protective, loyal, and sexy as sin. A hot, broody anesthesiologist who rides with the Truth Tellers MC? Sign me up. Chevy stole every scene he appeared in with his growly affection and quiet strength, and getting his full story only made him even more irresistible.

Aella was the perfect match for him—strong, resilient, and quietly fierce after years of surviving her toxic upbringing. Watching her slowly let her guard down with Chevy was incredibly satisfying. Their chemistry crackled from the start, and once Chevy made his move, there was no looking back. Their relationship felt inevitable in the best way, full of tender mornings and smoldering nights.

The tension in the story was perfectly paced, with the danger creeping in around the edges, and the emotional reveals hit all the right spots. LLV balanced the romance, suspense, and family drama like a pro, giving us a story that was not just steamy, but heartfelt and raw. Plus, the glimpses of the MC life layered in the perfect amount of grit and danger without ever overshadowing the love story.

Grumpy Sunshine is LLV at her best—sexy, emotional, and utterly addictive. Chevy and Aella’s story was worth every second of the slow build, and honestly? I already want to reread it.

Grumpy Sunshine by Lani Lynn Vale is a captivating blend of grumpy/sunshine romance with a touch of suspense and family dynamics, making it a compelling start to the Content Advisory series. The story follows Chevy Clayborne, a complex anesthesiologist with a tough exterior shaped by his dual life as a member of a motorcycle club, and Aella Cowan, a strong-willed woman who proves to be his perfect match.

What I appreciated most was the slow-burn tension and the authentic chemistry between Chevy and Aella, which kept the emotional stakes high throughout the book. The grumpy/sunshine dynamic is well-executed, with Chevy’s brooding nature contrasting nicely against Aella’s resilience and warmth. Lani Lynn Vale’s writing balances steamy romance, humor, and suspense, creating a layered and engaging narrative.

While the story includes some familiar tropes, the vivid character development and the rich backdrop of the MC world add freshness and depth. The pacing is generally strong, though a few moments felt slightly intense or violent for my taste, but these elements also contribute to the story’s gritty realism.

Overall, Grumpy Sunshine is a solid four-star read for fans of dark, edgy romances with strong characters and a mix of heat, heart, and suspense. It’s an addictive and emotional journey that sets a high bar for the series ahead.

An absolutely brilliant series starter from LLV. We've already met the Clayborne's in the previous Bratva series . This is Chevy's story. He is the grumpy, serious, anesthesiologist with a penchant for vengeance and murder on the side. He works his hospital job by day and is a member of the 1% MC, The Truth Tellers, at all other times. Aella is the feisty surgery tech who is surviving day to day. She is doing her very best to build a life despite her Mum's best efforts to ruin and control her. And what Aella doesnt know yet is that she is in Chevy's sights and he is biding his time to make her his.

This book has all the markings of a brilliant LLV tale..... possessive MC, brilliant (steamy) chemistry, snark, humour, amazing side characters that'll have you hooked for the series, tension, threat and this one has all the tears. I'm used to the intrigue and danger that goes with an MC romance, I wasn't prepared for the sadness. But it was all essential to the story and the narrative arc. I'll look after my poor broken heart.

Grumpy Sunshine is a thrilling and tension filled romance. The characters are a perfect fit and their romance is adorable (with a hiccup or too along the way). I cannot wait to see where the series goes.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Chevy & Aella: triggers- parental alienation, malicious parent syndrome, child identity theft, financial abuse, Munchausen syndrome, mental illness, grief, loss. In the words of the “mime” bird from angry birds… “OH MY GAAAWWWDDD!” because seriously the first book of the series and this is what we're doing. Aella is a full time student who also works at the hospital. She's very quiet and keeps her head down especially around the sexy Dr Chevy Clayborne. Chevy is related to Keely and Cutter from the Semyonov series. One this i loved about this book is how LLV almost immediately addresses something that happened in “Always Salty” and honestly this turned on the 💡 for me as a reminder of what happened with that situation. We meet Aella and learn about her family discord. The book has so much going on that you don't know who the big bad antagonist is going to be. But you can definitely see potential in a few of the characters in the story. I love that we're getting back into the MC world with Chevy being a member of the Truth Tellers MC. Chevy and Aella have some seriously hot chemistry and I just love how he takes care of her. Such a good way to start the series.

Holy moly—this book was an emotional rollercoaster in the best possible way. I had a feeling it was going to be incredible, which is why I held off on reading it. Now I wish I’d waited even longer to talk about what has happened.. just to avoid spoiling anything for anyone.

Lani Lynn Vale is an absolute powerhouse. The way she weaves her stories and builds such an immersive world makes it impossible not to get completely sucked in. I’ve read 25+ of her books, and I genuinely didn’t think any characters could top my favorites—until Chevy and Aella came along. They’ve officially taken the top spot.

Every page had me on edge. My emotions were all over the place—I even cried some seriously ugly tears. I was not prepared for what went down. And while I’m relieved there’s a happy ending for Chevy and Aella, I’m now (impatiently) counting down to you know yous book.

This is a must-read for any romance lover. It’s got it all—spice, sweetness, a hint of darkness, and a story that’ll stick with you long after the final page.

I seriously can’t wait to see who gets the next book and how this world continues to grow
