Returning to Ashford Falls was never part of the plan for Quinn Marks. It reminded her too much of her mother and a past she was desperately trying to keep there. But sometimes plans have to change. Quinn knew the chances of receiving that phone call from her brother about their father were high, but she hadn’t been ready for it. She also hadn’t been ready to meet Declan Day, her new co-worker and, apparently, her brother’s best friend.
Running from a messy situation of his own, Declan hadn’t been sure he would stay in Ashford Falls when he first arrived, but it’s been five years, and he’s still here. He didn’t know how he made it all that time, not once meeting his best friend’s sister, but something about Quinn Marks calls to him. Making him feel things he never thought he’d feel again.
Both had their reasons for steering clear of romantic Declan with his failed marriage and Quinn with her mother’s example of why nothing was permanent. As they struggle with their feelings and confront the past, will Declan and Quinn realize that it might be worth opening their shuttered hearts to face an uncertain future together?
Shuttered Hearts is a return to hometown, brother's best friend, found family, emotional contemporary romance set in a fictional small town. This is the first book in the Love in Ashford Falls series, each book in this series can be read as a standalone. Happily ever after, guaranteed!
Born and raised in Maryland, Erin Graves lives with her husband and two cats in a small town in Pennsylvania. She rediscovered her love of writing after finding some old stories she wrote in high school and decided to give the author thing a try. She still works full-time in corporate America and isn't sure that will ever change, but she's open to the idea of making writing a full-time thing. She won't call it a job because it doesn't feel like one … yet.

I’ve found plenty of men attractive before, but I’ve never felt this spark. Not when first meeting someone and not after knowing them for a while. This is brand new, and I’m not sure what to make of it.
“Okay, we’ll keep dancing. Whether it’s in your classroom, in your living room or mine, we’ll keep dancing.”

✨️This was such a beautiful story. It definitely hit me in my emotions at times. Quinn was a strong FMC, and she was so relatable. I loved her character so much. Declan was the perfect male specimen. He was so sweet and so supportive from the very beginning. There is an instant connection between these two. He has been best friends with her brother for years, but she hasn't been home for a long time, so she has never met him. I loved watching their relationship bloom through all of their past issues and struggles.
I don't want to say too much to spoil anything.
Overall, I truly enjoyed this, and I will definitely recommend this book to my friends!
This is the first book in a series, and I'm looking forward to the next one!
Thank you to Erin Graves and The Author Agency for allowing me to read and review this ARC!
okay this surprised me. I liked it. It was heavy though. I would suggest looking at the triggers & content warnings before reading. I loved that the story had so much depth. excited to read ava's book. Thank you to the author agency for the arc.
I think I fell in love with this book, and I’m so happy I got to read it.
Whenever I start reading a new author to me it’s a risk because my first read is what makes me continue reading the author’s other books and I’m I read this book by Erine and I’m gonna be waiting for her next book.
This was a beautifully written story, from the prologue it showed it’s gonna be a good start to a great story and I was not disappointed.
Quinn was a great character I loved her strength and her sweet personality even if she appeared closed off at first, she was nothing like that. She has this kindness, strength, and vulnerability about her that really made me love her from the start I could feel her struggle and her thoughts through the words.
And Declan was just the sweetest, he was kind, supportive and he didn’t shy away from loving Quinn and supporting her despite what he went through in the past. I loved his relationship with the Marks family it was so sweet to read.
This was a beautiful story written in a way that captivated me from the start, and I’m so excited to read Ava’s story when it comes out.
Shuttered Hearts by Erin Graves is a heartfelt story that focuses on family, love, and the challenges that come with hard times. It follows Quinn, who returns to her hometown in Ashford Falls to care for her father, who is dying from cancer. While adjusting to life back home, she takes on a new job as a teacher and connects with Declan, a colleague and her older brother’s best friend. What follows is a touching story of finding support and connection during a difficult time.
One of the best things about this book is how it shows the importance of being there for the people you care about. Quinn’s relationships with her dad, her younger brother, and even Declan feel real, and it’s touching to see how they all support each other, despite having their own struggles. The story has some really sweet and emotional moments that show how family bonds can help you get through the toughest times.
That being said, the book does drag in some places. The pacing is slow at times, which made it a bit hard to stay interested, especially in the middle. I found myself wanting the story to move along a little faster.
Another thing that stood out to me is that the book didn’t spend much time on Quinn and Declan’s hobbies. The cover features a camera, so I expected Quinn’s photography to be a bigger part of the story, but she only uses her camera once. The same goes for Declan—he’s supposed to be an artist, but he doesn’t really pick up a brush until the very end. It felt like a missed opportunity to dive into their creative sides a bit more.
Overall, Shuttered Hearts has a lot of heart, especially when it comes to the relationships between the characters. While it’s a little slow at times and could have done more with the characters’ interests, it’s a touching story about how people come together when life gets hard. If you’re looking for a book that explores family and love during tough times, it’s definitely worth a read!
Some of my favourite quotes/sayings: 🏡 “Get in, Bug.” “Bug!” she scoffs at me. “Yes. Bug, because you’re bugging me. Now get in the truck.” ❤️🩹 He lifts his head and studies me for a minute before he murmurs, “f*ck it.” Then his hands are on my cheeks, pulling me toward him while he leans down, and is lips are on mine. 🏡 I don’t have to do everything on my own. Leaning on people doesn’t make me weak-it makes me human. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Three words to describe this debut: real, raw, and emotional.
Please be mindful of your TWs before diving into this beautiful story.
Thank you so much to Erin for my eARC copy, and congratulations on your debut novel!
I don't want to spoil this book because it's packed with a lot of hard hitting topics, but I'd like to share a quote that encapsulate a lot of the emotions displayed throughout this story.
"The thing I've learned about grief is you never really get over it. It accompanies you throughout life as an undercurrent. Some days, you're able to continue with ease, and other days, it pulls you under and makes you pause."
I feel this book is an ode to anyone who has lost a love one in any capacity. Thank you, Erin, for writing what I call a "real life" romance, where things aren't perfect and neatly wrapped up in a little bow at the end. Life is HARD, but it's the people we can lean on and call whenever we need them that make this wild journey that much more tolerable.
So this book is a friendly reminder to: - ask for help when you need it. - lean on your loved ones in times of hardship - don't forget to say I love you - & live each day with intent and purpose because tomorrow is not guaranteed.
My only wish for this book was that the conflicts did not resolve so quickly (i.e. Tyler, the bar scene where their mom finally admits to why she wants custody, etc). I wanted more from these moments. There were certain interactions I wanted more from, which would have made the book longer, but I think may have added a little more tension/high stakes.
i just want to start by saying that this book does contain sensitive topics off page but also the sickness of a relative so check the TWs as this might hit close to home, it definitely did for me. this wasn’t just a romance it was also a book about friends, family, love and taking chances as you can’t guarantee the future.
the instant connection between quinn and declan was so strong, they hit it off right away and were a perfect match for each other. both inspiring the other to move forward and be happy, fall back in love with lost hobbies and take chances even if they are fast. i liked all the characters in this book and the found family feel it had, especially little max. he is precious and deserves all the love after everything he experienced in this book, reading his bonus epilogue had me in full on tears, it felt like the perfect way to wrap this story up.
i really enjoyed the storyline of this book and how it focused on a lot of side plot lines but not to the point where it was too much and confusing, it all fit within the theme of love, support and care. the storyline with tyler for example just shows how much love the marks family has. this is the first book in a new series by erin graves, i can definitely say i’ll be reading the others when they’re published!
first: please read the TWs as this does contain some pretty sensitive topics !!
okay now my review <3
After reading the blurb and the tropes, I knew Shuttered Hearts was going to pull at my heartstrings but OH MY GOD I didn’t expect to be put through the wringer! You dive right into this book learning about Quinn Marks and why she’s going home, and I felt myself pulling for Quinn to be there and be strong for her father and brothers. Going from a big city back to her small hometown was definitely a turning point in her life, and it was fun to see her step back into her old shoes (and some new ones!).
Declan was probably the best form of companion that Quinn needed, from a colleague to friend to more, and I absolutely adored how he was written!! From how he was introduced to learning more about him, I felt that he was the missing piece of Quinn’s life, and I adored how he always made sure she was okay and didn’t try and overstep his place. I also really loved how he was a fleshed-out character as well, and not just there for Quinn.
Both Quinn and Declan had the good, the bad, and the ugly spread out between the pages, and it was an adventure I loved being part of! I can’t wait to read about the rest of the family and their adventures !!
Please please please do yourself a favor and check out this book !!!!
Thank you Erin and the author agency for the eARC!
This book was so cathartic as someone with shitty parents who have drug issues. I made different choices, lived a different life almost to spite them but I am only one person. Many people who deal with serve childhood trauma don’t, the vicious cycle continues. I really appreciated that the characters deal with trauma, they don’t just ignore or push through. A lot of books these days seem to have characters go through really traumatic events and either they become submissive to their partners and giveaway control or they just “move on “and “Get over it”. Neither of those seem like viable and healthy paths. Even when you do actually confront trauma head on, even when you think you might have surmounted your issues, they do never really go away so the fear that you might cause trauma to somebody else due to what you’ve been through is absolutely massive .
Full disclosure I read this book because I signed up for the second books ARC, I debated skipping and just going straight for the second book and I don’t know what told me to read this one first, but I’m so glad I did!
this was such a good love story between declan and quinn, i love the family, the love between all the characters, a beautiful dynamic. this story handles sensitive topics so well tha makes the me as the reader appreciate it so much at how erin wrote it. the epilogue did break my heart, i saw it coming but i still wasn’t prepared.

*sigh* .... Although it is emotional and covers some heavy topics, this book is also heartwarming. This debut novel is a warm hug for your heart. Perfect for a cozy fall day read.
Quinn Marks returns home and takes a job as a high school photography teacher after she gets a call about her dad's declining health. It is there that she meets Declan Day - the art teacher. Even though Declan is best friends with Quinn's brother, the two have never met. And while Quinn has never heard any mention of Declan, Declan has heard a lot about Quinn.
There is a sort of instant attraction and pull present, with an undercurrent of comfort and safety. All of which quickly grows and deepens due to Declan's level of involvement with Quinn's family.
Declan Day is what book boyfriends are made of! He is ridiculously thoughtful. The way he is able to read Quinn - her expressions, her body language, the subtle changes in her mood or behavior. He always knows when she's holding back. Talk about a guy making you feel seen, heard, SAFE, and understood!🥰🫠 He's supportive, intuitive, respectful, considerate, and reliable. He loves fiercely and would walk through fire for those he loves.
Quinn ... she's quite remarkable. But SO hard on herself! She allows herself to be blinded by these faults she sees in herself. She doesn't see how loving, supportive, selfless, and strong she is.
Their romance is easy and drama free!
The Marks family will warm your soul, with the patriarch, Scott, being the warmest of all. They show us how strong a family's love can be, whether you're blood or chosen. This family will have you in all your feels as they come together to cope with their anticipated loss.
This is a beautiful debut novel that I would definitely recommend! 4.5 ⭐️ (rounded up to 5 for GR)
Thank you, Erin and The Author Agency, for the ARC!
This book has been both heart-warming and sad. It deals with love and loss and how we deal with each in our own separate ways. This was my first Erin Graves book and it was an emotional read. I found myself shedding a tear or two. There are a number of elements to this story and Erin manages to skilfully weave these together and create something beautiful. Quinn left her hometown and never looked back. Fast forward 10 years and she's been called back because she's needed. While she's had a good life, there's things in her past that have perhaps shaped her perception of herself. She's got wounds that have never really healed. Here she meets Declan, her brother's best friend and an honorary 'member' of her family. She realises she's missed a lot and her family love Declan like he is actually family. While this story has a few different storylines, the main standout for me was Quinn's journey of self-discovery. The things that happened in her past really left an impact on her as a child, then a woman and despite the reason she needed to come back home, her time with her family and Declan have really made her re-evaluate who she is. This was a quick and easy read for me and nice pacing. I loved the characters and Quinn's character development, and even though this was Quinn and Declan's story, we really got to know all the characters through their POV. This story showed the importance of communication and understanding and how different things can really shape who we are as people. There were times where I cried because it was sad, but the love and happiness they all showed for each other had me smiling. This really was a beautifully written story and one I'd recommend to anyone. Erin Graves will definitely be on my radar now and I cannot wait to hear more about Ava, sounds like her story is going to be an interesting one!
I really cannot say how much I loved this book! It was so good. There are some heavy topics so check the TWs but it honestly was so beautifully written so I would say still read it but you all know me I read my triggers. This story was so good. I loved the two MCs and the family. There is a tight unit of a “real” family and then there is a found family which I absolutely loved. I just loved all the characters especially Quinn she was so much like me and her worry that she wasn’t able to separate herself from her beliefs and working through that. I loved the instant connection she had with Declan he knew about her from being around her family so much so they just seamlessly came together and they are so perfect for one another. I loved how everyone was so protective and fully supportive of Max and making sure his life was as stable as possible and making sure they make as many memories with the time they have left with their dad. I just loved how the story unfolded and how there are several moments of hard moments and they worked through them together. I definitely loved the ending and how she gave a glimpse of the other members futures not only the MCs and I’m so intrigued to get Ava’s story I really hope to see that. Heck even Max can we please get more of him!!! I don’t want to spoil this book but just know Declan will be your new book boyfriend! He is a total marshmallow and I love that he is always there for her. And they have good communication! And you’ll fall for all these characters!!!

Thank you so much, @author.eringraves and @theauthor.agency, for the ARC!
I absolutely adored Shuttered Hearts! I love a romance book that has a brother's best friend trope! It's one of the best tropes out there, and to make it even better, Caleb isn't against it because Declan is a great man, and he can see that Quinn and Declan are perfect for each other.
I fell in love with the characters instantly. Quinn is a very caring person, and because of this, she feels immense guilt for not being there for her family, even though they encouraged her to follow her dreams. Declan is a giant green flag. He's kind, caring, and hot! He's always there for Quinn and her family whenever they need help. I couldn't help but fall in love with him!
Both Quinn and Declan have been through hard times, but they haven't let those times rule their lives. Meeting each other was the best thing that could have happened to them. I can't help but smile whenever they interact with each other because they're just so sweet together.
Quinn's family is the best family you could ask for because they're loving and supportive of each other. They took Declan in and made him feel like a part of the family. They've been through hardships and are still going through them, but they focus on the present instead of the future and choose to make the most of it.

𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁: This is a good read but it is very heavy and emotional at times. Please be sure to check TW as this one has a few. This story is one that tears you apart but puts you back together along the way. It touches on some difficult topics with grace and shows characters coming out the other side changed but not broken.
Quinn is a successful photographer who escaped the town of Ashford Falls. She loves her family but she had to leave the trauma she faced behind. She connects with her dad and family on a weekly basis. However she just found out her dad’s cancer has returned and this time it is terminal.
So Quinn packs up her life in New York and returns to her small hometown to support her brothers and spend what time her dad has left with him. She takes a part time job at the HS she used to attend as a photography teacher, that is where she meets Declan.
Declan moved to Ashford Falls to escape his parent critique of his life after his divorce. He instantly connected with Quinn’s older brother and dad and became family. He has never met Quinn until today but he feels connected, as he’s heard about her for the past 5 years. Declan is the guy that will do anything for anyone so he wants to support Quinn in any way he can, he just needs to protect his heart.

I'm pretty sure that Shuttered Hearts is the debut novel from Erin Graves, and it was a great read! This emotional story deals with love, loss, trauma, coming home again, and finding oneself again.
I thought that Declan and Quinn had such a great connection. Not only that, but he was such an integral part of her family, who adopted him as one of their own after he had a rift with his own parents. It's been a few years since Declan got divorced, and he's still kind of raw and hesitant to get involved with another woman. The last person he expects to fall for his his best friend's little sister, who is only planning to be in town for a limited time. But these two just *got* one another from their first meeting, and it was a joy to see them blossom and open up to one another as they spent more time together.
Quinn is carrying a lot of baggage. She's got trauma from her mom's abandonment, as well as trauma from an attack. Both of those incidents had a huge impact on her, and she questions herself at times... especially when it comes to whether or not she can be the partner that Declan deserves. But these two were so open with their feelings and made it a point to communicate with one another even when the going got rough. I really appreciated that mature approach to their relationship.
Shuttered Hearts is beautifully written. Don't miss the bonus epilogue, because it was so worth it to get a glimpse into Max's life, eight years in the future! I am looking forward to more books from Graves!
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
I enjoyed this book. Having lost a parent to cancer, I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to get through it. But beyond it being the catalyst for her move and the last chapter, it's not in the forefront of the story line from page to page. So, take that into consideration if you're on the fence about it.
Declan and Quinn were such a sweet couple. I enjoyed watching them fall in love.
The whole story, in general, was really heartfelt. Full of family love and traditions... reminded me a lot of my own family before dad passed.
In general, though, I don't understand why Tyler's tidbit was in there. It didn't add to the storyline. And I think the angst and conflict would have been more appropriate to come from Nicole. There are a lot of really big emotions in this book, so please check your triggers. That being said the author handled all of these topics with great care and as a SA survivor and a person who has recently lost her dad to cancer, this book was perfectly digestible to me. But everyone is different and mental health matters. So do what's best for you.
This story includes the following tropes, and if you like these tropes, you should give it a try:
Found Family Insta-love Both MC's are artists and teachers Best Friends Little Sister. He falls first
Content warnings from the back of the book:
Mentions of past drug use Mentions of alcoholic mother Parental abandonment Mention of rape Cheating (off page/in the past) Child abuse Parent dying with cancer
There are some characters that you just want to wrap your arms around and comfort them as soon as you meet them, and Quinn Marks is one of those for me.
Quinn Marks returns to her hometown after getting a call from her brother about their dad’s declining health. So, she packed her bags, took a job as a photography teacher, and moved back to her hometown.
Declan Day the art teacher who moved to Ashford Falls after issues with his family came up due to his divorce. He had heard about Quinn from her family, who he is extremely close with, but never had the pleasure of meeting her until she was called home.
As far as book boyfriends go, Declan Day is PERFECT. He’s so sweet, caring, and thoughtful. He is everything that Quinn needed and vice versa.
I could not stop reading this book as soon as I picked it up. The story is beautiful, emotional, and packed full of all of the feels. The character growth from both Declan and Quinn was beautiful, and so well written. Watching Quinn heal from her past with Declan being beyond supportive every step of the way was such a special thing.
I love a strong family unit in a story, and this one takes the cake. The entire Mark’s family, as well as Declan and Ava, have such a beautiful, strong bond. I could go on for ages about this book!
Shuttered Hearts is author Erin Graves' debut contemporary romance, and it was an engaging, heartfelt read.
I really enjoyed the evolution of Quinn and Declan's relationship. I felt they developed a solid foundation of friendship that grew into a deep love. They were supportive and trusting of one another. They had great chemistry, and the open door steamy scenes just added another level of depth to their love.
There are a lot of heavier topics touched upon within the story, and I won't go into it too much detail so as not to give away certain plot points, but I felt the author tackled them honestly and delicately. In some of the most vulnerable, raw moments, we saw how all of the characters came together in a show of support.
Shuttered Hearts was a beautiful start to a new series, and I very much look forward to reading Ava's story next!

Tropes- Age Gap Brother's Best Friend Found Family No Third Act Breakup Small Town Coworkers/Workplace
The moment Quinn Marks and Declan Day met I knew I was in for a special kind of connection. With a meet-cute that had a nostalgic quality for both characters and an underlying emotional thread, there was simply an internal anticipation, on my part, that they would come through the end of this book together.
Declan gently pursued Quinn amidst trials no one could have anticipated, supporting her with the maturity of a man seven years her senior. He is a cinnamon roll through and through, making you swoon with each tiny moment he encourages Quinn, making her feel special, desired, and understood.
Quinn’s character is guarded but for good reasons, reasons that unfold throughout the story, reasons that explain her hesitance to move forward with Declan and the fears she has regarding relationships. But, as the story progresses you see her slowly trust herself, grow, and show an openness with Declan that is so heartwarming to watch.
Over the past few years of reading romance, a trope that has come to the forefront as a favorite is found family. I simply adore the deep, genuine, and meaningful connections characters make as they are forced to walk through something difficult, building their own sense of community and family and Shuttered Hearts is full of these moments. Erin writes each character with a purpose and a genuine connection to one another. Whether by blood or choice, these characters have come together in a time of need and anticipated loss, forging a bond that allows them to process and heal from all they will endure together. Their connections throughout the book are written with such tenderness and care, I definitely teared up a time or two…or more.
Shuttered Hearts is a heartwarming, authentically emotional, yet cozy read that envelopes you in the story! Filled with fall vibes Shuttered Hearts is the perfect read for this time of year! You should pick up this debut novel now from Erin Graves! I really think you’ll like it! I absolutely did!
This story was absolutely adorable and I really enjoyed this debut author's small town, brother's best friend, workplace, age gap romance with no third act breakup! I loved the storyline and the family dynamic in this book.
Declan is the ultimate cinnamon roll with a bright green flag who teaches art at the school and is her brother's best friend. Her family welcomed him into the family when he arrived to Ashford Falls five years ago. Quinn protects her family and her heart fiercely, especially when she's asked to return home to help take care of her dad. She ends up teaching photography at the same school as Declan, but has no idea who he is to her family or why she's so drawn to him.
There were so many great scenes and heartwarming moments in this book. I loved how Declan was immediately hooked on Quinn and how their relationship unfolded. I did want to see more of his back story and there were some scenes where their chemistry and dialog fell a little flat and seemed forced, but for the most part...I loved it and can't wait to see what's next in Ashford Falls!
This was a very well written book with a good storyline and relatable characters. Quinn is a young woman who moves back to her hometown, after being gone for several years, because of her father's failing health. Then she meets her brother's friend (and her new co-worker) Declan. Declan has been divorced for a while and has sworn off relationships, that is until he meets Quinn. Then he starts rethinking that decision. I really liked the flow of this storyline and I live a good friends to lovers trope. Declan is the golden retriever character, loyal, steadfast and strong. And he's always there for Quinn when she needs someone to lean on. Quinn is a strong character and has to go through some really tough emotional times because of her dad's failing health. It was great to see that Quinn was there for her when she needed him most. I liked the chemistry between the two characters. And this book has some great tropes, brother's best friend, found family, a slight age gap (7 years), small town romance. I really liked this story but were definitely some very sad and emotional parts to read regarding her father. I loved how Quinn and Declan leaned on each other through hard times and really built a solid foundation to their relationship.
This was truly one of my favorites ARCs I have read in the last couple of weeks. It was raw, emotional, and romantic. I have to say it did take me a little to get into the book, but once I got through about 30% of the book, I could not stop reading it. The story starts with Quinn returning to her hometown after 10 years after getting a call from her brother that their dad's cancer has returned. There Quinn has to face her demons of returning to her small town, while also beginning to find love again with Declan. Declan was hurt in the past by his ex-wife, but had such a calming, supportive and strong personality, and was willing to be Quinn's lifeline when she needed it. This story had an undertone of sadness with the dad's cancer returning but also had a feeling of hope, taking chances, and love. I really enjoyed the found family aspect and how beautiful they all supported each other! This debut from this author was amazing - and although sad at times was done in such a great way that it made you realize how raw and fragile life truly is!
Thank you Author Agency for an ARC for an honest review!

✨️Blurb:
✨️Review: Declan and Quinn's romance as strangers to friends to lovers is low stress and heartwarming in this small town romance. The family unit is a true highpoint in the writing, as I really had a fully fledged idea of each person's personality. They are endearing, warm and just a solid family unit!
Declan and Quinn's relationship itself is low conflict and their attraction blossoms quite effortlessly. But it's still super sweet to watch! The drama comes from the estranged ex wife threatening custody to a sibling and a family member with illness. These are real-world issues and hardships being dealt with in a way that is, at times, gripping and at others, downright lovely!
A few heavy topics are touched on (check TW's) but handled with care and it's a lovely story of love, healing, loss, overcoming tough events in life.
I believe this is a debut book for Erin Graves (or at least, it's the first book I've read of hers), and man - what a debut! I really liked this book.
This book is raw, and real, and emotional, and at times quite deep. There's quite a few hard hitting topics, but I like my books with a little punch to them. Just check the triggers before diving in, just in case there's something that's sensitive for you. This book felt more real than escaping into a fantasy which most romance books are. Real life has the good, the bad & the ugly - and so did this book.
Quinn & Declan hit it off right away & have an instant, intense connection. They support one another and help each other move forward again in life & fall back in love with the small things again. They both had their own stories apart from one another, but then their story together was equally as beautiful! I liked their depth as characters and as a couple.
The side characters/found family were great (special shoutout to little max and his bonus epilogue!)
Thank you to Erin & the Author Agency for the ARC!
I really enjoyed Shuttered Hearts! Quinn and Declan had me hooked from the start with their emotional depth and chemistry. The storyline got heavy at times, especially with Quinn losing her dad to cancer, which hit close to home for me, making the story all the more relatable. Watching Quinn navigate her grief and the baggage from her past while slowly opening up was such a rewarding journey. She grew so much throughout the book, and I loved seeing her come into her own.
And Declan? Honestly, I fell a little in love with him myself! He was so patient and supportive—exactly the kind of guy you’d want by your side when life gets tough. His own struggles made him feel even more real, and the way he showed up for Quinn melted my heart. Together, they made the perfect pair, despite all the walls they had built around themselves.
This book hit all the right notes for me. It had emotional depth, a great found-family vibe, and a love story that felt real and beautiful. I can’t wait to see where the Love in Ashford Falls series goes from here!
This was a beautiful story and really well written!! I read book two already (I know I never read out of order 🥲) so I already had some idea of Declan and Quinn’s relationship, and the ongoing storyline with her dad/family. It was emotional! I went in blind (but please check if you have triggers) and my heart just hurt for Quinn! She’s so strong, and truly such a selfless person. I absolutely loved everything about her!!
And Declan? Yeah, this man was just swoonworthy. I loved how close he is with her family. And how he always put her and her comfort above himself and his role within the family. He just was the definition of a MAN. I truly loved the storyline and all the emotions it pulled from me. I can’t wait for what’s to come 🫶🏼

Quinn has avoided her hometown of Ashford Falls for the past ten years. She finally returns to spend time with her father who is terminally ill. While in town, she ends up as a Part time high school photography teacher working closely with Declan who is an art teacher.
Unknown to her Declan is not only her brother’s best friend but also wholly integrated into her family as one of their own! I loved the care he shows her and how their friendship grows slowly into something more.
When the truth of what Quinn is afraid of is revealed, I cried tears for her. The resolution of her fears were written beautifully and I loved how steadfast Declan was throughout this journey with her. It was also amazing to see how they supported each other to kickstart their love for their respective form of art.
We are also introduced to other characters such as Ava, Declan’s sister, and I look forward to reading her story next.
