A sweet, uplifting small-town holiday romance that celebrates the bonds between family and the magic of the season. Settle in by the light of the Christmas tree and get swept away to this charming mountain town!
Nora Stoker has her life all planned out. Her career as an event coordinator in Boston is on the rise, and she recently got engaged… but when her fiancé unceremoniously dumps her just before the holidays, she’s left reeling as her carefully laid plans come crumbling down.
Hoping to clear her head, she decides to return to her hometown of Evergreen Hollow to spend Christmas with her family.
But from the moment she steps through the doors of the cozy Mistletoe Inn—the historic lodging run by her parents and her older sister, Caroline—Nora realizes that coming home doesn’t just mean fresh baked cookies, stockings, and hot cocoa. It brings its own set of complications too.
For one thing, she can’t seem to stop bumping into the ruggedly handsome local carpenter, Aiden Masters, who seems to be keeping a secret from her. For another, she and her sister aren’t on the best of terms, and after so many years of estrangement, it would take a Christmas miracle to bring them back together. On top of all that, Nora finds out that the inn has been struggling in recent months.
When she gets recruited to help plan the annual Snowman Festival, she sees an opportunity to turn things around—both for herself and for her family’s business.
But will Nora be able to embrace the holiday spirit and the love and wonder it brings? Or will her plans go up in smoke all over again?
I’ve been taking a break from books with a lot of drama or that require a lot of deep thinking. I just need a light-hearted, feel-good read as an escape and for clearing my brain. This book fills that need! I love the cozy feel of the Christmas season and this book meets the requirements of a light-hearted story with all the coziness of hot cocoa and cinnamon buns by a warm fire. This may seem cheesy to some, but, for me, right now, it’s just what I need. There is substance to the story and I enjoyed seeing the development of Nora’s relationships with her family and friends in the small town of Evergreen Hollow.
This is a series on kindle unlimited - very sweet but not so cheesy that I feel like I’m wasting my time! A fun holiday read - I’m excited to read the next one! This author has two holiday series.
After several heavy reads, my bestie Jamie suggested that I read something lighter and happier. I wasn’t sure if starting this after the New Year was the right decision since it was a Christmas novel but I am so thankful I chose to ignore that silliness. 😅
Why? Because this little novel was the “Hallmark”moment I didn’t even know I needed. Sweet, endearing, and full of goodness, The Inn at Evergreen Hollow brought me such joy and delight as I read every page and it reminded me that trying to dive deeper into genres that I often overlook (for reasons I will never be able to figure out now) is really good for my soul.
I adored the characters and their stories and I felt so connected to their love of their families and community. It made me feel a deeper sense of appreciation for the slower moments of life that so often get overlooked.
Fiona Baker has woven together a sweet little treat of beauty, simplicity, and yes…romance. I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in the series this coming Christmas season and see where the story takes this sweet little town and its community of people.
Shows how small towns stick to together to make memories for everyone, but enjoyed how they kept it going promoted the small town businesses to promote their festival
Some people run away to the city to reinvent themselves. Others? Pack up their entire life and move to a tiny town where holiday magic is basically a zoning law. In The Inn at Evergreen Hollow, Fiona Baker gives us a quintessential small-town romance—the kind where everyone is unnervingly nice, festive events are mandatory, and romance is inevitable (whether the characters are ready for it or not). If you’ve ever watched a Hallmark movie and thought, what if I just quit my job and opened a charming inn instead?—congratulations, you’re exactly the target audience for this book.
Meet our protagonist: burned-out, in need of a fresh start, and possibly carrying some emotional baggage that will be healed via Christmas cookies and gentle small-town meddling. She arrives in Evergreen Hollow, a place where locals remember your coffee order after one visit and every single street looks like it was designed for a snow globe. Her plan? Rebuild her life in peace. Reality? Enter the love interest—probably a rugged-but-kind local who doesn’t know he’s the star of a romance novel yet. There’s instant chemistry, but of course, one or both of them will resist it for precisely as long as the plot requires. Cue cozy inn renovations, holiday festivals, emotional breakthroughs disguised as Christmas traditions, and at least one moment where someone realizes they’re in love while standing under twinkling lights.
Baker doesn’t try to subvert the genre—she leans into it like a Hallmark executive trying to meet their December quota—and honestly? It works. The romance is warm, the setting is so cozy it should come with a complimentary blanket, and the stakes are refreshingly low. Will this book shock you with unexpected twists? Absolutely not. But will it make you want to light a cinnamon candle and pretend you live in a town where Christmas carolers spontaneously appear on your doorstep? Oh, 100%.
If you love small-town romance with zero stress, maximum charm, and a festive love story that feels like a cup of hot cocoa for your brain, 4 stars for this sweet, comforting read. It’s predictable in the best way—like a favorite holiday movie you know by heart but will watch every single year anyway.
Loved the characters, the setting and the story. Can't wait to read the next one!
Amazon synopsis: When the magazine that Margo Stoker works for downsizes and lays her off, it knocks her for a loop. She left her small hometown years ago, eager to explore the world and make a name for herself. But without a job to keep her busy, she decides to visit Evergreen Hollow for the first time in years—just in time for the holidays.
She figures she’ll pop into town, catch up briefly with her parents and her two sisters, and then be on her way… but those plans go out the window when a skiing accident leads to a broken leg, stranding her there for much longer than she anticipated.
Dr. Spencer Thorpe recently took over his father’s medical practice in Evergreen Hollow, and he loves the tight-knit community and the slower pace of life there. Still, when a beautiful and vivacious out-of-towner shows up at his office with a skiing injury, he’s drawn to her right away.
There’s no way that Margo can let herself fall for Spencer—not when she plans to leave town as soon as possible. But as walks in the snow turn to romantic sleigh rides and kisses under the mistletoe, she starts to realize that no matter where she goes… she’ll leave her heart in Evergreen Hollow.
But can she truly stay in the rustic little town forever? Especially when she had a good reason for leaving in the first place?
Meh. Clean cozy romance sounded good to me. Set in Vermont always a win. But blech, the main character started out so full of herself and fancy. Totally could not relate. Very Hallmark Channel, but without the heart.
Main character Nora is a Boston event planner and just got dumped by her fiance. She returns home for the first time in a crazy amount of years. That part makes no sense. She wouldn’t visit her parents? And why does the author refer to her parents by their first names? Just because she had a fight with her sister she doesn’t go home and visit her mother?
There just happens to be a gorgeous carpenter who nurses a crush on Nora since high school. And he recognized her immediately event though 12 years or something had passed.
I’d like to know what happens in the next book, but maybe just in a couple of paragraphs.
I would have enjoyed this book in my late teen Harlequin romance phase.
This first book of the series is sweet and colorful. After her fiancé breaks off the engagement, Nora Stoker leaves Boston to recoup for a month in her home town of Evergreen Hollow, Vermont. An event planner, she decides to help out with the Snowman Festival. Town carpenter Aiden Masters proves to be a great distraction too. Nora tries to resolve several family problems and fit in better to the small community. I love Fiona Baker's stories and wasn't disappointed by this one. The town itself and the characters add to the success of this book.
You're going to fall in love with this book. This is the most wonderful book for the holidays. It's has everything from small town girl coming home to heal her heart as the biggest event Evergreen Hollows puts on. The characters are charming, bold and full of Christmas spirit. So cozy up with your favorite hot drink and let this beautiful story feel your heart. Enjoy
It’s Christmas Rom Com season for me. This just fit the bill. Light and easy to read. A twist or two thrown in to keep a main character off kilter. I liked the simplicity and respect woven into the story. Whether you’re from a small town filled with pride or a big city with excitement; you’ll find a nice cozy romance blossoming in this book. Nice theme of “you can go home again”. You can find love. You can mend fences. You can find unexpected surprises in yourself and others.
If you are looking for a sweet romance with a light touch, this book is perfect. Life takes an unexpected turn for the main character, Nora, and she finds herself returning home right before Christmas. Will she find more than just a break from the end of her engagement or will more heartbreak be in store? Sometimes you have to be tested to find your true "north" but what if you are directionally challenged?
Fiona Baker is a new author for me. This was my first if her books. I love her way of story telling. She describes everything so perfectly, so that you can close your eyes and see what she is describing. It was a sweet read, with endearing characters. I love when the main character learns something about herself, which results in love. Now on to Book 2!
Highly recommend this book for a cutesy winter read. I also felt it had a great message about growing up and accepting that your goals and plans will change with time. I loved how cozy the setting was and how fast paced the story moved while still explaining everything. This is truly a perfect easy read for the holidays
I really enjoyed this book! It was so well-written, albeit a bit short. The buildup for the romance took up the majority of the pages, so there weren’t many details in the resolution, making it feel rushed. I liked the characters a lot so I hope the remainder of the series is about the same people. 86/100
I did not finish this book. I could not get past the annoying judgmental characters making lots of false assumptions. And so many statements about life in a smaller town or city that are based on stereotypes. Just not for me
She was going home for Christmas after many years away. The dust up with her sister was something she was going to have to mend. Her fiancée had broken up with her and everything was upside down. Enjoy
I think the overly cheesy Hallmark movie type Christmas book genre isn’t for me! The main character was so annoying with her “ohh I left my small town for the big city” attitude. Oh well. Christmas vibes all around.
I loved the Stars Hollow vibe, but the writing was pretty meh. Still glad I read it as my Christmas romcom this year, but I’m hoping to read something at least as well written as Jenny Colgan next year. It felt like maybe my middle school creative writing students could have written this better.
It was alright. If you like hallmark movies, you might enjoy this book, but I found the dialogue and plot lacking a bit more than I anticipated. However, if you would like a light hearted simple Christmas romance story, you will appreciate this book.
I enjoyed this book a lot. I am home sick and this was a light hearted read. Just what I needed. I understood the division be between the sisters and now wanting happiness for both.
I keep trying to like this author; but, after 4 attempts I’m moving on. DNF at 25% - boring and wordy with way too detailed descriptions of food, weather, anything except developing the characters.
This book was kinda like a Hallmark movie. I really enjoyed it. It was a sweet little story. Sometimes losing what you thought was love ends up leading you to what really is love.
Yawn. This was really uninteresting. The 2 MC's didn't even speak to each other until almost half way into the book. I have no interest in reading further books in this series.
