This book provides a rich and unique study of Southeast Asian perceptions of the United States and US foreign policy that makes it stand out from many recent books on US-Southeast Asia relations, US-China competition, or SE Asia-China relations. Ann Marie Murphy put together an all-star panel of contributors for the volume, and each chapter is worth reading carefully. But Murphy's introduction and historical chapter on US SE Asia policy are very nuanced and insightful as well. On the whole, this book is a must-read for scholars and analysts of US Asia policy and Southeast Asian international relations.
